The first road trip for the A’s takes them to Seattle on Seafair Weekend. Well it would be. You can enjoy the Boeing Air Show at Home with your very own U.S. Navy Blue Angels paper airplanes. The roof will be open because the weather will be gorgeous as you would expect in Seattle at the beginning of August (possibly excepting a chance of rain on Monday).
The A’s announcers will put their skills at calling games off monitor to their first real test with this schedule:
Tonight at 6:40: Manaea vs. RHP Taijuan Walker
Saturday at 6:10: Fiers vs. LHP Yusei Kikuchi
Sunday at 1:10: Bassitt vs. RHP Kendall Graveman
Monday at 6:10: Montas vs. LHP Justus Sheffield
Did not know Taijuan Walker was a Mariner again.
Ken tells me he’s from Yucaipa, CA.
Radio about a pitch-and-a-half ahead of the TV
I didn’t know that Taiwan and Korea leagues already have fans back in the stands, per Drew.
Manaea’s velo continues to tick upward. The question is how much into the game he can maintain it.
960 sounds pretty good in SF!
103.7-2 sounds even better! (Turns out I have HD radio in the car.)
New game times sneak up on me, I like it though
Another inspiring start from the offense.
I mean, when you face a guy as tough as taijan walker
Pitchers ahead of the hitters indeed.
This team just doesnt seem to be firing on any cylinders at the moment.
cool cool cool cool cool
2014 july-sept A’s
Ed, think of all the value we can get if we blow it up right now. We can build a core that we can keep when the new stadium is ready.
I need a drink.
Keep Laureano, trade everyone else.
BTW, last year they had a very robust video replay section on mlb dot com
slo motion, zoom, back and forth zapruter shit.
this year they just post an abbreviated challenge winning team replay
You can see why Chapman was pissed off at the lack of urgency in getting the team to report on time. At a certain point the slow starts aren’t cute anymore.
That was pathetic fielding.
So far Ken and Vince are doing great on the pxp of the monitor, none of the painful miscalls from the Bay Bridge tune up.
yes, I have been surprised
That A’s cutout behind the thirdbase dugout is very life like
Ken can’t be sure when the lights have taken full effect though.
The comeback is going to be epic
I actually pre3fer thinking this is a slow start/we didnt get in early enough/bad thoughts from COVID.
Because my other thought is maybe BoMel just can’t reach them anymore and it’s time to move on.
Cancel this season tbh. This is pathetic.
That Passan story from this afternoon has been updated. You may get that wish.
If the A’s could win tomorrow and Sunday, that would give them 5-4 which might either tie the Astros or win the division outright.
But if the A’s lose Sat and Sun we’re probably out of the expanded playoffs.
Also: Keith Olbermann works for ESPN again?
I wonder if you and Nurse Upgrade will get 80% of your cutout money back if 6 home games is the final total.
I wonder that also. Though honestly my surplus balance with the A’s, from the nixed 2019 playoffs and all 2020, is this amorphous blob of not-really money I may never see again. I should probably transfer it to my horse betting account.
I guess at this point my wish is that they keep this thing sputtering until maybe the middle of August. The more mistakes they make the more opportunities they have to learn from them, and a better chance that we can have a legitimate season in 2021. Manfred gets fired, possibly Tony Clark too, and we have fresh leadership not just for any residual virus issues next year but going into the CBA negotiations as well.
This guy just seems lost.
There’s been some truly terrible commissioners in MLB history, but this guy may just take the cake when all is said and done.
It’s a different position today. After Bowie Kuhn the owners decided the model of an independent Commissioner acting in the best interests of the game was antiquated, and what they wanted was an employee. So from Ueberroth in 1984 to today the Commissioner has has successively less and less real authority. Hell, Bud Selig was an owner, and he never had any doubt where his loyalties laid. Manfred was a perfect hire if your goal was to avoid any chance of any decision not blessed in advance by the dominant ownership caucus. So Manfred is “worse” in the sense that the Office of the Commissioner is worse, by design.
Life! Of a sort.
i’d like to see a replay on that tag up
love to see grossman up in big situations, can’t ask for more
He’s done just enough in the first 4 games to start the next 15, sigh. It’s the Sam Fuld Conundrum.
Piscotty on second for the 10th?
The local PGA Tour event moved from south Reno to Truckee this year. Playing a golf tournament without spectators can create its own brand of problems as was the case today.
Every adult bear I’ve ever seen in the Sierra has that same don’t-give-a-fuck slow stroll.
So, long awaited first start for Luzardo is either Tuesday, or next year, or maybe in an old-timers game circa 2045.
Grim Cup Final – 4 players off injured (plus a sending-off for good measure).
Haven’t seen Mike V for awhile, hope he’s enjoying the Quakes’ somewhat unexpected early success in their bubble tournament. They go in the quarterfinals today at 6pm.
That’s quite a PR infrastructure you’ve built there MLB:
“News of the Cardinals’ latest positive tests was first reported Saturday by former big league third baseman Trevor Plouffe, who is now the co-host of a podcast.”
I dunno, now might actually be the time to panico.
Turns out that lineup is wrong, Chapman hitting second, Ramon 3rd. Same old result though.
Yeah, was just wondering when and why they got switched.
my comments are loading slowly, its it just me?
No issues here.
“z” key functionality isn’t working for me (either on Brave or Chrome).
Works for me
It does work on Firefox.
I get no Z key function right after a page reload. But once I click cursor on page the Z key works.
That appears to be the way it’s functioning on Chromium, which includes Brave. Firefox doesn’t require the pre-click.
that may be what’s happening to me
let’s go khris
I’m feeling a KD homer coming today.
I’m feeling a Vogelbach homer coming today.
In a terrific race to the bottom:
Chris Davis: .354 OPS
Daniel Vogelbach: .322 OPS
Khris Davis: .118 OPS
Chris Davis isn’t in the lineup tonight.
I just noticed that in addition to Kis’ 0-fer, our 4-headed 2b platoon have combined for 1 hit this year.
Vogelbach becomes the first of that group to succumb to a DFA. That was a quick fall from grace.
Khris: .146/.268/.229 (56 PA)
Chris: .133/.188/.200 (48 PA)
Khris has a track record. not one that i want to test in 2020, oh course, but should have a little slack
Chris is in his 4th straight year of being below replacement level (the last three way below), and still under contract for two more years after this one.
The Orioles must be hoping that at some point he will just retire out of shame and they won’t be on the hook for all that money, and willing to bet a roster slot on the chance of that happening. So far they’re losing that game of chicken.
Khris seems to be on the same trajectory, but for less money and a shorter length.
Vogelbach is younger and will probably kick around the league for a couple more years at least.
Khris had such a marked decline after Pittsburg(h), I don’t know if Chris has a similar issue.
The length of his contract reflected that they expected a Chris like decline.
I don’t know what to do with Khris, except bench him, until a full season can be played
I dont think even the season is enough. You put him in at the bottom of the order against really bad pitchers and hope something clicks. I hate that approach but if he isnt hurt I dont see any options other than that or a release and eating a lot of $.
Vogelbach got picked up by the Brewers, and has hit
.353/.441/.569
in 59 plate appearances (that’s before another homer today).
IIRC someone else pucked him up and they dropped him before the Brewers got him.
Blue Jays maybe? I remember thinking they were cornering the market on husky men.
yes. Have you seen Alejandro Kirk?
No way replay goes our way here.
Looks safe to me, but you’re probably right.
Wrong! Suck it, FSU!
Had to give Murphy that GIDP opportunity.
not gonn over turn
Safe!
Nice way to capitalize on that, Murphy
that was nifty
First K of the year?
what is the second time through the order penalty for a guy sitting mid 80s?
Our starters seem fine until the 1st hit. Then they immediately implode.
Yes I have seen this episode already.
he was out before he got hrbeked, but man, just don’t run on laureano
I took a stadium tour of safeco. there was lots of candy in the visitors clubhouse
also the pressbox wifi password was “Edgarhalloffame”
I was bummed he got elected because I figured it would stay until he was elected
too tall. second base people should be shorter
Vince and Ken talking about distinct chance of seven inning no-hitters this year. Was not explicitly stated “when facing the A’s.” But understood.
Starting to think it is me watching. I got distracted and missed Krush getting his hit.
Two bloops and a … nothing.
Fosse had an apple sitting there but it’s untouched. The carton of Dibs is probably under the desk.
Chadwick!
two hits!
Oh great, Diekman.
wait, you are right, i thought I heard mcfarland
Boldly heedless of the angry reactions of their fans, are the A’s.
Semien and Olson both trying to avoid the sombrero.
i’d like to test olson this inning
Shit. I ran and picked up food dur8ng the 7th and was back for the 8th. It really might be me.
Not for nothin
sure, pitch around olson and pinder to get to davis, makes sense
KD fly balls are so sad now.
RIP Pop Fisher.
You know my mama wanted me to be a farmer.
The mind of kids. I assumed he was about 65 when The Natural came out. Maybe older.
He was 65 for about 20 years.
Man, Soria doesn’t always get it done but I like watching him pitch, he has a clear plan and doesn’t give in to hitters.
And then sometimes he does get it done. Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking.
For good or bad the angels beat the astros.
Reddick made a very poor throw to lose it
Kemp doing the Running Man or something on 2nd.
Is starting with a RISP good or bad for us?
The Legend of Robbie Grossman.
Robbie G! Never once doubted you!
Didn’t we get screwed on this exact same replay last year?
yes
Houston, right. In left field?
Yes. I would have to pull up that replay but I think it’s exactly the same. If the A’s lose tonight Bob will have something to say about it. You could see the smoke coming out of his ears.
I seem to recall you produced a rulebook quote which suggested it was the right call (but a stupid rule).
FK discussion right here.
And here’s the play.
the ball made a turn after it went under
Someone get C.B. Bucknor to explain that that is not a dead ball.
Again with this shit?
It literally rolled out. From now on I just put my hands up on any ball..
Bunting down a run is crazy.
Someone tell Shed to stop hugging our Chapman.
Victory! Thank God
Extra inning beasts! Also, risk of Soaker Day forestalled!
Live every day like it could be Soaker Day.
Satisfactory win, bitches.
First place!
First place!
I was hoping tomorrow could be both “But still First Place!” and Soaker Day, but the mathematics just miss working out.
According to the new official HT timeline, the draft EIR Is expected in “late 2020” with the City Council and Port votes targeted for “Summer 2021.”
So, you know, update your calendars accordingly or whatever.
Cespedes a no-show for Mets game in Atlanta, team says they can’t reach him.
This is my move for leaving a party.
#IrishGoodbye
Bob rolls out a new lefty-heavy lineup, featuring DH debut of Seth Brown and his Bat of Renown. Facing our old pal Kendall Graveman, who is super happy to be back in the bigs after his two year layoff. He K’d 7 vs Houston on Monday but ultimately gave up 7 runs in 4 innings.
SS Semien
CF Laureano
1B Olson (L)
3B Chapman
RF Canha
LF Grossman (S)
DH Brown (L)
C Allen (L)
2B Kemp (L)
I hate to indulge my inner Eeyore but it’s starting to feel like today may be the last game of the season.
Eeyore is the spirit animal of 2020.
LOL
Well poop, something isn’t working at Youtube TV. They aren’t letting me watch the A’s on the second channel of NBCS-CA. They’re insisting on showing me Sacramento Kings vs. Orlando Magic at 3:00.
Don’t know why Youtube doesn’t have the alternate channel today. I had forgotten about the “My Teams” app, haven’t used that in ages. Solution was to get the game going on that app and send it to the TV via Chromecast.
It’s ok. The A’s have yet to show anything you haven’t seen already.
Yeah, I wasn’t all that upset about it. I could be out enjoying a warm if slightly smoky Sunday afternoon, rather than sitting here on my ass watching more offensive flailing.
i don’t have it on hulu plus
Apparently it’s a glorious sunny day in Seattle, but the roof is closed to provide shade for the bench players being distant in the stands.
And somehow still Bassitt is pitching like it’s 100° out there.
Glen better cool it with the trolling of Clay Wood, he’ll drive the lawn tractor right over Glen’s Lexus.
His velocity was down even more from what I saw. low 90s high 80s on reported 2 seem. (mlb at bat)
Seattle’s off-white unis aren’t near as bad as the Giants version. But lack of player names is insufferable. You’re the fucking Mariners, no one knows who you are.
yankees home and only yankees home
NNOB is an abomination
Maybe they prefer to stay anonymous.
Ramon!!
Off a lefty reliever (thanks, three batter minimum rule)!
That pitch was quite terrible.
There’s been 6 total runs scored in the Astros-Angels game but both teams just have 1 hit apiece.
13 total walks in this game and it’s only the top of the 4th.
the difference between little league and that is Ohtani gets pulled after 3 walks in little league
I think the three batter rule is dumb, I think that if the batting team pinch hits, the pitcher should be able to be removed
Agree with Ed. I think it does almost nothing to “speed up the game”. Just keep batters in the box.
Batters in the box and electronic signs with the pitcher and catcher to cut 5 seconds per pitch
Shocking result from diekman
I really hate how you can tell if Diekman is going to have a good outing or not within the first couple of pitches.
Diekman 2 days in a row after already having a lefty in?
1st walk punctuated by loud “fuck!” from Diekman. 2nd walk gets a “Fucking fuck!”
Those are the same things I say when he is pitching.
Diekman still?
its been three bob
DieBBman really may be the one that finally gives me my 1st stroke.
That was almost like a Grant Balfour adventure.
No runs given up, but I really don’t know how you can watch outings like this day in and day out and still want to throw this guy into high leverage situations.
So, leave him in for the lefty crawford, bob?
Ooh, a rules question!
(You’d think every pitcher would have read that but I guess not.)
Should be three outs since he struck out Seager twice.
This is called “2 in a row”. If we win tomorrow its called a “winning streak”. It has happened before.
so that’d be an… ~8 game streak in regular?
So no worse than a tie for first place if the season is over (and that’s the first thing I check online every morning, is the season still going?). None of the tiebreakers resolve an A’s-Astros tie if the Astros win today.
I think I have to conjure up an interest in the NHL or NBA playoffs if I’m going to sustain this daily live sports fix, which I have been enjoying.
I tried to watch some of the bubble basketball today. Not going to be easy pulling that interest off.
Not exaggerating, less than a minute after I switched to the NBA James Harden took a seven step drive down the lane, pushed off the defender and drew the foul. Yuck.
Don’t know why I’m bothering to scoreboard-watch but come on Angels.
That game “featured” 19 walks but the two teams combined for 27 LOB by going 4-for-33 with RISP.
wow dusty baker is bad at managing
let his reliever pitch the 9th and 10th after tying the game. that guy is a starter who came in the 4th. he was at 60 pitches to start the newly tied ninth and 78 or fo starting the 10th with the lead.
Naturally he gave up a hit to the first batter in the 10th.
Sam miller was saying he is more valuable as a DH
If the other option is a pitcher on the DL I would agree.
Grade 1-2 strain of the flexor pronator mass.
4-6 weeks without throwing (which means he can’t realistically expect to pitch again this season).
Day-to-day as a DH.
Will be interesting to see what he/they decide regarding continuing to pitch next year.
I wonder what the prognosis would be for him playing outfield.
Anyone wanna see some Free Kraut discourse on AN?
oh god.
can’t believe i forgot how much i hate headlines in a comment.
Best wishes
and go A’s
We’re not involved in anything over there, are we? It sounds like there’s some dispute over deleted comments and years-old FK-related incidents are being dredged up as tired precedent.
Yeah it’s been six years, who cares any more?
I remember there being a number of disputes between AN and FK while most of us were participating on both sites, but I can’t say I recall the details of any of those. I do remember that the original split resulted from somebody being censored for challenging the assertion that “all police officers are heroes”. We can probably declare a moral victor in that one.
Heh, I was thinking about that incident recently too in light of current events.
IIRC, it was only sort of related to the founding of FK. I think mb had already left, and had an idea of making his own site before it happened, and a lot of other people were dissatisfied in various ways. Paul Thomas, with his usual sense of tact, chose a thread about the OPD officers who had been shot and killed in an ambush attack to make his “actually, police officers aren’t necessarily heroes” point, and was promptly banned or suspended or whatever. Even though he was only peripherally part of (what would become) the FK crowd, and even though it was a pretty dumb thing to say at that moment, the arbitrariness of his banning was the final straw for a lot of people.
I made a pretty clean break, while some other people kept posting at both sites for a while. There was a second exodus c. 2012. At this point, I’m a little surprised that anyone (except ****) still posting there even remembers us.
he is a lawyer at the NLRB. I just looked it up.
I met him at a jobs fair at hastings in 2010 or so
Nice enough guy. What you would expect from a socially awkward fellow
danmerqury commented on that recent thread. wish he’d comment here instead. he’s good people.
He did quit AN for awhile I think. He came back roughly around the same time I did and I was kind of surprised he didn’t just go straight to FK. I had mostly associated him with what became the FK crowd.
Oh Nico’s goons definitely still remember both of the big exoduses. They remember people I don’t even remember.
Nostalgia: Nico just gave me two strikes in two days for talking about politics. The second one was for mentioning that Vietnam’s public health system is functioning properly.
These are not happy memories. Hard to believe he has survived this long given how deeply stupid and petty he is.
It was indeed mostly driven by monkeyball leaving and people here generally being sick of ****.
I looked through some old emails, and it seems I am the only one left here who organized things originally. Mb, sal, bhaskar, oblique, poppy, and I exchanged hundreds of emails with ideas before inviting folks. Strikes me as a somewhat odd group now, if only by omission. We actually had a long debate about whether to invite PT (and a lot of other people)…
Looking back, I actually regret that my younger self was prone to being an asshole online, and I was definitely very prone to getting Mad Online. My current view is that being an asshole is bad. Relatedly, the enterprise of trying to convince people of anything seems comically misguided and hopeless.
Danny Espinosa’s dad is an Angels season ticket holder and should never be signed by the A’s
“My current view is that being an asshole is bad”
Forever aligning against the mainstream of the body politic.
it’s a thing you go through as a development of having discovered message boards. we’re lucky we did that when we did. my mom is in the thick of her phase because she didn’t discover facebook till ~2014. every post is caustic and laced with JAJAJAJAJAJA (HAHAHA in spanish). total troll.
For some reason the Portuguese equivalent of jajajaja is “Kkkkkkkkkkk…” Its very jarring being trolled by them.
huh. like an unvoiced chuckle.
I remember getting the invite to FK 1.0 (.wordpress.com) and being pretty excited at the time. Can’t believe it’s been more than 11 years already.
I’m not sure if I was 1.0. But I know I was very excited because I hated all the fun being somewhere else.
I have a vague memory of my first (or one of the first) comment(s) here being about the Rockies and how they observe their “Faith Day” by letting Huston Street pitch in the ninth. I’m sure andeux will know better.
Heh. Nope, sorry.
But 1.0 is still there fermenting away.
Too bad some asshole with an infant’s grasp of wordpress pulled us away from that…
LOL, scrolling down that “Bob Melvin Fired” (and replaced by A.J. Hinch in Arizona) is the headline on one of the first posts you come to.
Let’s remember some guys!
This site is run on WordPress, right? There’s a conversation among some commenters on AN about a mass exodus when the new commenting system is imposed, and the discussion has naturally turned to if there’s a way to do Gamethread-style commenting systems (like this one.) I mentioned that I think WordPress can do it, but danmerqury was pretty sure it couldn’t. He works in web development, but I’m right, yes?
maybe he’s saying it doesn’t autorefresh during thread. how here you have to reload the page once you finish new comments.
Core WP doesn’t allow you to post a comment without reloading the whole page, or track unread comments. The first is (IIRC) available through some popular plugins.
Definitely no reasonable way to implement live auto-refreshing though.
This is built on WP, but the unread comment part was hard-coded by me in 2012 (based upon a somewhat similar plugin that was already years out of date I found online).
There’s some kind of resource hogging in my SQL that I was never able to find, which is part of why this site craps out sometimes. The other part is that we probably aren’t on the right host eight years later.
Probably another good spot for a THANK YOU NM! And let us know when whatever fees come around again at some point.
Seconded. Between FK and Sushirrito, I feel forever indebted
Some day you can give me some tips on how to not be an ugly american in Croatia, and we can call that even. This, though, was not that summer.
No problem, and the good part about an unreliable host is that its cheap!
I’ll accept payment in beer at some point in the distant future when such things happen again.
Yes, I think we all agree that your tailgate food and drink is covered for life.
Suuuuuuuuuuuuuure. Easy to say in 2020…
you know if you don’t get your beers you can just change all our user names to “liar” ‘Liar1″ “liar2” etc
Sure, but who would be left to believe me?
We could pitch in and get a Raven cutout for you if you insist…
Poor guy still can’t buy his own beers after a decade of harvesting our keystrokes.
The bottom has really dropped out of the small-data market. We clearly needed to go global with the platform.
Do we need to do another round of recruiting at AN?
THAT was the original incident that caused the schism? Haha holy shit.
I am honestly surprised anyone remembers.
Seemed like a relatively harmless discussion except the completely bonkers email business. That is to be expected.
All I really remember is MikeV and email and that EC (I think?) had stuff deleted which blew me away. You dont censor the world’s most interesting man…
Heh.
Yeah, I had stuff deleted. Triggered family memories (my Dad was a leading columnist for the biggest paper in Zagreb during socialist era, and after numerous fights with the censors, he barely escaped prison, and was never allowed to write there again). So, yeah, FK ****
EDIT: Tried to find that last thread, only came across the parting message in the profile.
This one?
Yup
So. Much. Meta.
I had to start going through it and about halfway through there is an exchange where a couple of people were talking about how bad the A’s were going to be in 2012, 2013, and 2014. We knew nothing.
Just as soon as manny is done serving his suspension
Wow. So many names in that thread I haven’t seen since. Not here and not there. Including people who, at the time, were more or less defending Nico.
That said, we made a pretty clear point about never recruiting there, so the gaslighting on that front is pretty offensive.
As someone who crashed the party uninvited, it was legitimately hard to find this place.
i can’t remember how i did. might’ve been a delinquent lounger going, psssst, and showing me their wares pinned to the inside of an overcoat.
I think I got an invite from someone, and lurked for a long time
I figured it out pretty early on.
mikeA’s comment in his DLD above that is
Which I think is in response to a snarky comment I made on AN about “the new Clown Porn site”.
I know from when I was reclassifying the posts to the current menu (The Grill, Game Thread, etc. with all the subcategories), a lot of the early comments were lost in the FK 1.0 –> 2.0 –> 3.0 transitions so trying to read through the comments in that 2009 DLD just leads to confusion.
Yeah, I think I got an email invite, but don’t specifically remember.
I basically couldn’t transfer comments into 2.0, but then “3.0” (if we mean post-mb-sabotage) only wound up losing a couple weeks of comments since there was a fortuitous backup. Now there are regular backups scheduled.
Oh wow, the whole subthread is actually on the 1.0 site which andeux linked back to.
I can see it being confusing given that 1.0 is still (somehow) the first google search result when one searches “free kraut”.
We chose to put google shields up. Specifically, the “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” option is checked.
Read the thread, Aces.
I’m one of a handful of FKers (and obviously a pretty halfhearted FKer at that) who still hangs occasionally at AN. I am not the person who brought it up though. I just love seeing Nico and his goons squirm. (I am the person who repeatedly mentioned Mikev’s lack of a valid email.)
Find it pretty cool that I was supposedly replaced with someone called “Invisible ink”
That comment was bizarre as fuck. I mean Invisible Ink is nice enough as far as I know, but not a replacement for you in any possible sense.
I mean, jake fox WAS technically a replacement for eric chavez
Please excuse my memory, but don’t we have a FKer on here whose wife is a book editor taking suggestions? Was it just kids books or any kind of book?
colin’s wife is a children’s author?
I think that FSU and andeux provided the answer batgirl was looking for, but I won’t skip the opportunity to do some promotion: https://jennbishop.com/books/things-you-cant-say/
Thanks for sharing. I’m going to recommend this to a friend who has a child it could help.
nice.
Nevermoor had a publishing contact who was looking for manuscripts. Friend not wife maybe?
thread
Oh wow–2012!!
IK,R?
You never disappoint
RDFT
I have a friend who is a book agent. Maybe that?
That’s probably it. In any case, it was just this artist who posts these really sweet, endearing, sort of sad cartoons on Twitter, and I really think they’d be a great book. But the artist said a few days ago that some publishers have reached out to him, so it’s all sorted I hope!
Cool. If he wants to be introduced, just shoot me an email and I’ll send it along the food chain.
Christ
Sounds like HBT is no more. Might need to recruit Calcaterra to come do recaps for us.
His jersey opinions are unacceptable.
Is today the day in this shortened season that you had to wait for to get an extra year of control?
this weekend, i think
I really wish they had just traded Barreto for something that could have been useful. Or traded him 2-3 years ago when he would’ve gotten something even more useful. Or just not have traded for him at all way back when.
lol football
Apparently part of the protocol to keep players safe is that, after grappling with and breathing on and probably spitting at each other for three hours, they will not be allowed to exchange jerseys after the game. I am not making that up.
if i’m clorox wipes, i’m trying lobbying real hard for the NFL to turn this into a flag football season with specially sponsored disinfectant-coated flags.
The emoji is a great touch.
Cespedes back to Oakland in 2021 confirmed
Since he ghosted the Mets he’s looking to play somewhere else next year. But our DH budget is kinda tied up.
My lazy way of using Twitter for lineups and such is to search #Athletics. Which brings in a bunch of other random crap, which can sometimes be delightful, like this gal’s new record discus throw.
I love the contrast of her ripped physique and amazing balance with the delightful “yay me” clap at the end.
Awesomely named Chadwick Tromp hit his first homer yesterday, but wtf is going on with Jesse Chavez’s hair?
i like it
The Gnats have Tromp and Pence.
Fock the Giants.
The A’s sent up almost the same lineup against Sheffield late Sept last year, in a game they really needed, got 4 hits and 4 BBs in five innings and could still only manage one run.
Actually that was the day we clinched. No wonder I didn’t remember the blown save with rage.
I am only asking for 6 runs this inning for the A’s
It was a couple innings late but they made up for it by adding a few more on top.
game over
That ball Canha hit to the track, that’s what it looks like when a hitter with pop “just misses.”
I’ve been feeling like Chapman has popping up a lot this year – checked Fangraphs and he’s at a 31% infield fly ball percentage. Obviously small sample size but that’s…not good.
I feel like that’s Chapman’s way of “just missing,” not early or late, more up or down.
maybe he tried to up his swing plane?
Yeah true, definitely not worried about him in the long run.
frankie is getting dinked. nothing is hit hard
Does anyone know anything about the ball this year? We did have an awfully HR-heavy offense last year, and if they’re back to the deader balls it could explain some of our struggles. (Not all, per lc’s point about infield pop-ups.)
Partially answering my own question: The A’s went from 1 HR/24 PA last year to 1 HR/46 PA so far this year. MLB went from 1 HR/27 PA last year to 1 HR/31 PA this year. So the A’s went from slightly better than average, to way below average, but there has also been a decline league-wide.
My non scientific take is that last year there were a lot of homers that I was sure weren’t homers off the bat, whereas this year it seems like the opposite has been true (like the one Canha hit to the track earlier I thought was definitely going out).
Yeah, Canha’s was the one that prompted my comment, and FSU’s comment was along the same lines as well.
You’d probably have to factor in that all of 2020 has been played in relatively warm weather, which possibly should have led to a few more HRs, had all the other factors, including the ball, stayed the same
that was a good 3-2 pitch.
Doesn’t mean there have been good at bats
MVP candidate Ramon Laureano comes through again.
Whoever mentioned signing Ramon and trading everyone else, I’m on board with that.
there is the A’s bleeder
The Oakland Laureanos look pretty good; the Oakland Athletics, not as much.
Ken said batted around!!!!
Suck it nerds!
Ray waited until the 10th batter…I am right anyway.
awww.
you guys made me remember when i used to care.
I already quit this site
Email me.
Too soon.
Dang, this is some fine hitting, fellows.
I remember this!
I like big innings and I cannot lie.
Did Krush match his season on base total this inning?
i think so
one hard hit ball, though
two, Canha
one hard hit ball, though
can marcus make the 2nd and third out in the inning?
Bryan Shaw’s Mariners career may be brief.
Miami needs arms
I think the Rockies are still paying most of his salary. Jeter will love that.
This is pretty cool.
Yes, can we say the Yankees approach was not for him?
I know they made McCarthy better than he was in AZ, but they just blew it with him
Manaea with the puns
I imagine Vince has a lot to say about confidence tonight.
If the A’s hold on today, they’ll be alone in first place for the first time since April 10th, 2016.
Pinder now 1 for 33 lifetime with the bases loaded. It was a pretty good 1 though.
Yay Khris!
Cant wait for someone to say Manea was signaling pitches with the signs.
Seems like the Mariners used their extra roster spots on a bunch of relievers who have no business being in the majors.
I’m thinking this is going to be what every Marlins game looks like for the next couple weeks.
Barreto and The Machine? Wonders never cease.
One’s a can’t miss prospect! The other was cut loose for nothin! Now they’re together getting hits and solving crimes.
Barreto and the Machin! A Quinn Martin production.
I believe all of it except for getting hits.
Barreto continues to not make much of a case for increased playing time. (Although “strike three” looked like a pretty bad call.)
Also they can use the theme from The Streets of San Francisco played by a mariachi band.
the umpires are riding on the charter.
Please don’t talk to rob drake
Nice series, bitches.
Khris homers and Lou has a clean (4-out) inning. That really is some kind of night.
First place!
Professor Secretary Reich’s grasp of irony seems fairly loose.
“Neighborhood preservationists” in general refuse to acknowledge any embedded privilege in their refusal to allow new housing. Then they’ll turn around an oppose new construction in other parts of town too, for fear of losing the “neighborhood character” which made [fill in wealthy city name] so appealing to them originally.
I love how he calls it “development for the sake of development” as if people aren’t going to live in the new building.
That’s reich
Thanks to this hypocrite, and a twitter flock of YIMBYs pouncing on him, I had to log on to work late tonight to help manage a few meeting trolls.
Ugh, that Mike Soroka achilles tear is rough. I guess the good news is that unlike a basketball player, a pitcher doesn’t need explosiveness out of his plant foot, just stability.
Siren
10 day? what was the injury? He seemed ok in seattle, yeah?
Strained lat.
Strained hair follicle.
Christ, what an asshole
I don’t know, he could have something there. He is in good company, my client agrees with him.
this one has a picture, but first, picture him in your head. I bet you were partially correct.
I hate that I laughed. Damn it.
Every time I talk to him in jail, guards stop by to see if I am OK.
He is…something
I hope they’re keeping the hat in good shape for when you spring him.
Then sail 12 miles due west and the cops can’t touch you
2027?
I do think this is an injustice. he is a crazy person. He is racist, but that is not why he got in this fight. Also, no one was hurt or even touched. also also, the victim had a knife and a unbelievable story that he didn’t use it
He had a nice run, but like so many, the meth got him.
meth makes it clear that the corona virus is a fake
i think his brother was in the surf punks.
NMP anymore
If I had to guess the occupation of somebody named “Ole Hougen”, sea captain would be pretty high on the list.
Congrats!
I imagine you get a lot of thankless cases but this one has to rank pretty high.
The A’s tell me that my cutout is in Section 121, Row 15. Way better seats than I usually sneak in to.
Watch out, a cardboard cutout of an usher is going to try to make you go back to your shitty seats.
Found myself! I’m dressed for the cold weather we’ll have in October.
I’m a bit miffed they didn’t put my kids together.
YOU MUST GO TO PRISON!!*
*we can wait for the pandemic, though
His record of double- and triple-dealing is really impressive, even years before the move to Uber.
And I’m sure he has mountains of money hidden away somewhere overseas, or sheltered by his “church.”
I told you guys that he was in my high school class, right?
i think so. It sounds familiar
Yes.
And I interviewed with him and his company, about 10 years ago.
Juan Soto just danced on the roof of the Nationals dugout after his teammate homered.
Josh harrison. who had a long at bat v hendriks last year.
I thought he looked familiar.
Observation on watching far too much Mets because I like their broadcasts: This is a very bad team.
