Yeah, considering that I just deleted four new robo-posts, maybe we should use one of our own for the rest of the divisional series. There are four, count ’em, four games on tap today:
Rangers at Blue Jays, 9:45 am
Astros at Royals, 12:45 pm
Cubs at Cardinals, 3:45 pm
Mets at Dodgers, 6:45 pm
My feeling about all these teams:
FK the Jays, because of the put-down of Oakland by their manager
FK Texas – as the graffiti in the 1st floor bathroom in the Physics building at UC Davis said (30 years ago), “Here I sit buns a-flexin’, giving birth to another Texan”.
FK KC for something that happened last year, although I can’t quite remember what
FK Houston because they are also from Texas
FK St Louis for losing the NLCS to the Gnats in 2012 and 2014. Also their fans are greatly overrated.
FK Chicago, because I love futility streaks, and 106 years isn’t enough.
FK LA, simply for being SoCal.
FK NY, because even though the Mets aren’t the Yankee$, they’re still NY.
FK all these teams, because they aren’t the A’s
Having said all that, go Jays, Astros, Cubs, and Mets.
I got to have my picture taken with not 1 but 2 championship trophies yesterday. They arent WS cool, but I will take it. That and Trogdor have me pulling for the Astros I think.
Very nice intro and I dig your Fab Four.
Also in Back To The Future, Cubs won 2015 WS.
Toronto is pissing me off.
Dang, Odor!
Bob Costas is making my ears bleed.
I agree with FK all of them except I like the Mets. To the extent I recognize the existence of the National League, they have always been my choice there. Plus I still heart Yoenis very much.
One great thing about the Mets is that their fans HATE the Yankees, and nobody in NY seems to think there is anything wrong with that. Unlike out here, where people seem surprised that there are A’s fans that hate the Gnats.
This.
Y’all act like you got jobs or something.
How’s your back?
and, for that matter, her front
Thanks, and go As.
Meh. Thanks for asking, though.
I’m okay with any of these American League teams.
Bah – no Cain plunking.
I feel like they need 2 or 3 more graphics on the screen.
If a classic game happens on MLB Network, does it really happen?
C’mon Josh. Sweep the leg.
jow sittle on blue jays radio says out
Umpire in New York says safe.
I’m just going to assume that there is really someone named “jow sittle”
I can’t even guess what the real name should be.
give me a break. i recently fell off a latter and hurt my head
I like your spelling better.
Also, another former catcher – how awesome is that?
So, naturally the guy with .222/.238/.263 slashy line gets the go-ahead hit.
No home-team winners yet.
jays had a lead. sad face
The ump is that game was awful.
And I’ve just jinxed the ‘stros
And today’s honorary member of Team Dynamite is Oliver Perez.
The Astros’ version of Team Dynamite is at it again.
Good to get the roller on the field.
Way to go Jed … pinch-hit leading off the 9th down by a run, just watch those 3 strikes go by.
There are some lovely shades of blue in the playoffs this year. All eight remaining teams, even the Cards. I think I like Toronto’s best. Cubs/Dodgers close behind.
why do they give out white towels?
For surrendering.
that play reminded me of another former rockie
this is a pretty good game
HERE COMES TEAM DYNAMITE
It looks like you’re trying to blow a save. Would you like help with that?
So funny.
This.
Also, I see that Clippy still sucks.
lest we forg…
too late.
i really dislike the look of the camera person running next to a player
I felt sorry all season for the guy who had to do that with the Hall of Fame Racers.
I still can’t decide which of these teams I want to win. The Mets have Bartolo and Yoenis, but they’re also beloved by some people I really really dislike. I have never hated the Dodgers that much, Kershaw’s cool, but they’re really just so blah.
my aunt is almost 88. she just went to hospice care. I flew down last week for a few hours to hang out with her.
she is a big dodgers fan. she would probably enjoy a dodgers win.
My grandma died when she was 90. she was a big dodgers fan. she died in just before pitcher and catchers reported in 1989.
Go mets.
On the other hand, fuck the NL. Can they all lose?
yo knows playoffs
TOOTBLAN andre
asshole
I was preoccupied with the Cal game last night, and missed the big drama of the Mets-Dodgers game.
But that was awful. It was a dirty play by Utley, who never even bothered touching the bag and left the field (and inexplicably was called safe). If I’m in charge, Utley is out, the batter is out, because Utley interfered, and the inning is over. Utley also is suspended for the rest of the playoffs.
I don’t really care all that much about the playoffs (the Cubs are owned by a right-wing nut) but that was terrible. And Torre’s response is incredibly lame.
If you can be ruled safe on a play where you didn’t even try to touch the base, Tejada and Byrnes would like a review of the 2003 ALDS.
I think you must be mistaken – there was no ALDS in 2003.
I couldn’t understand why that wasn’t a neighborhood play.
the ruling was because he never threw. but if you look at the pay he is turning to throw when a utley sized missle takes out his legs behind second base.
so he couldn’t throw because of the tackle. I don’t know if we are getting to “football move” territory, but…damn. you can’t reward a team for that, you just can’t
Either way, it shouldn’t be a double play because the letter of the takeout slide rule is you have to touch the bag. Utley did.
The suspension, too, is good.
Utley didn’t touch the bag. He literally missed it.
Does his hand not?
Either way, he’s not doing the classically-illegal slide far away from the bag. He’s sliding in late/high which isn’t against the rules (yet).
Replays show him clearly missing the bag with his hand. Which is necessary for that type “take out” play. Unintentionally dirty, but dirty nonetheless. The umps could have and should have called the double play on the field. That being said, the suspension is idiotic. The umps fucked up and you can’t fix that by punishing the player. Had it been called correctly, it wouldn’t have been anything more than a basic rule violation and not one that would have resulted in an ejection.
How they haven’t changed that rule after all the bs over the Buster Posey rule is beyond me. A player who is typically safe at the time against a catcher in full gear is illegal to take out, but a blind defender with no gear is okay to take out when you’re already out? Mind boggling.
give you ONE guess..
Thanks, and go As.
No, he did not touch the bag at all.
On the other hand, you are right, the usual standard is not that the runner necessarily touch the bag, just that he does not go so far out of the baseline that he would be unable to touch it. By that standard, Utley was within the baseline.
On the other other hand, the actual rule is:
As a judgment call, it sure seemed like Utley was intentionally interfering with Tejada more than he was trying to reach the base.
Interesting. Had no idea that was the rule.
Seems like a particularly bad rule in that runners are supposed to intentionally interfere with the fielder (just subtly) so it seems to be measuring the wrong thing.
does anyone know if players are paid extra in the playoffs? Other than the bonuses from the league.
I raise the question in regards to chase utley. if he is suspended for 2 games in the playoffs does that impact his take home pay? will it impact his take home pay if his team is eliminated tonight and he serves the suspension next year? Will the withholding of pay be based on his new rate or his current salary?
The full contract amountss are paid out over the 162 game regular season only. Players get no salary for post-season games, only whatever indivisible contact incentives they might have, plus the league pooled bonus money. So Utley would lose nothing.
You mean they aren’t getting the minimum wage?!? CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT HERE I COME!
He may lose a piece of that bonus pool. Theoretically. But unlikely.
I almost made a Daric Barton joke, then I remembered what year it was.
I think the players decide how they divide their portion of the pool the team gets, right? So if the Dodgers players wanted to they could give him less, but seems exceedingly unlikely.
Well done, Jays.
There. XKCD fixed it.
AJ Pierzynski is not the worst color guy in postseason. I’m not sure how I should feel about that
right? i am liking him
haha
Run, Forrest, run.
Also, Carlos Correa is pretty good at this whole baseball thing
Most of the time.
Just setting up a walk-off HR
Madson giving a pretty solid audition for Team Dynamite.
I’d sign him, but I’m holding out for Gregerson
He did kinda tail off at the end there.
Yeah, he couldn’t even bring the run from third in, with less than two outs.
Heeeeeeeere’s Lukie!
Coming in with 2 on, 1 out, in the 8th inning of a close playoff game against the Royals. That will surely go well.
Cunningly sets up the double-play.
And does it again, now with two outs in the inning. Pure genius.
And BOOM goes the dynamite.
So far, so good.
Will Harris auditioning hard himself
ahem
fs1 did it too
Astros in full Team-Dynamite-mode.
Nice A’s job by the Astros here.
England may never lose (or draw) a game again, and Croatia’s docked point costs them the automatic 3rd place sport.
Boom again!
A’stros.
There’s the Son of Gregor we all loathe so well.
Nice to see the Jay’s offense waking up, though the reminders of winning the first two on the road and failing to close out are painful.
using david price as a loogy is not sustainable
No loogy he.
Wtf are they doing with price? Pitching him in this game seems completely insane…
Maybe they just prefer Stroman?
i suppose. but it really doesn’t speak well for the bluejays in a potential ds
it appears you can’t take the “A” out of addison
for those of you not on facebook, Milo just said “I’ve heard of a sacrafice FLY, but not a sacrifice BUNT.”
You’ve taught him well.
ron darling is having a tough time with this series
haha, dodger already lose the chase utley wars, use pederson in a non crucial PH role, now if its late and close they will have to use the inferior utley
CESPEDES!
That was a bomb! I was about to get up and go do something else, but first I needed to watch his at-bat.
yup
It’s cool to see Cespedes, Donaldson, and Russell do well in the spotlight. A combined 18.5 WAR this season…sigh
000101111 1100001110 0110111011
Even Dallas is trolling us/BB
Uh, yes?
Thanks, and go As.
You know he knows that, right?
Eric Sogard had the same OPS+ as Stephen Vogt and better than Josh Reddick. Gosh, it’s fun when your team can hit.
Too bad only Cespedes and Crisp could hit in the playoffs.
Bah! I wanted to see Bartolo batting with the bases loaded.
right? save the pen, terry, there is nobody out
“they’re going to have to check in new york on this one”
um, where are you now?
That was weird.
Please please please can SLackey get beaten like a gong today. Pretty please?
More like a triangle than a gong, but I’ll take it with thanks.
Final round of the first phase Euro Qualifiers today, and the standings are all the funkier for the weird 3rd place situation; since all but one of the groups have 6 teams, the 3rd place rankings are determined by excluding results against the team that comes 6th in the 6-team groups. Turkey beat Kazakhstan home and away, but only drew with Latvia home and away. If Kazakhstan beat Latvia they move above them into 5th place, and Turkey only loses 2 of its 3rd-place ranking points rather than 6.
Meanwhile the Dutch are about to fail to qualify for the first time since 1984.
The Dutch look really, really bad right now.
EDIT: But a man up! They need to score three times and hope Turkey doesn’t eke out a win over Iceland (I think) in order to get third place on goal difference.
@PTBNL: would the Dutch also need help elsewhere (including in the Kazakh/Latvia game) to be one of the third place playoff teams, or would 16 points get them there as long as they top the Turks?
EDIT II: Turns out the tie-breaker isn’t goal difference but head-to-head, which Turkey has over the Netherlands. So the Dutch need Iceland to score and win, in addition to coming back from 2-0 down themselves.
If the Dutch overhaul Turkey then they’re into the 3rd place playoffs; whatever happens elsewhere they can’t be the top 3rd place team though.
I cannot believe how bad this Dutch team is. Holy smokes.
RIP RVP
Kazakhstan scores! Now a Turkish win secures the automatic spot and drops Hungary into the play-offs.
And with the Dutch getting smoked, Turkey doesn’t need to worry about securing a draw. They can push for a winning goal knowing they probably
qualifymake the playoff even with a loss.Though the Dutch comeback is underway …
2-3
Turkey red card.
Turkey score.
On a spectacular free kick. Wow.
Turkey goal!
Now Italy equalize, Norway drop from 1st to 3rd, and Croatia are into the finals without a playoff!
Yay!
And Belgium will be the new world #1.
Only time in my life for one non-US sport. And that slot is occupied. Doubt France has the stuff to pull the upset, though I’d love to see it happen one of these years.
Also, amazing that Matfield/Habana are still kicking around.
That said, you’ve got to wish this guy all the success in the world for the picture/name combo.
Those were some amazing quarterfinals (I’ve only seen three, but that was more than enough)
How does soccer get away with slapping a “Qualifier” label on every game? I mean, the World Cup was last year and they’re already playing “Qualifiers” for the next one? They need three years to figure out who qualifies?
These are the qualifiers for the 2016 European championships.
By interleaving the quadrennial Euro’s and World’s, every year is either qualifiers or the tournament.
But outside of Europe, World Cup qualifying really does take three years.
That’s what I was getting at. I heard on ESPN “the United States plays a WC Qualifier next month and needs to get such and such straightened out before then”. Looking it up, the game turns out to be Nov. 13 in St. Louis vs. St. Vincent and the Grenadines. It’s as if the A’s were already ineligible for the 2018 World Series based on this year’s performance. The team that faces SV & the G can’t possibly be the same one that would potentially play in the 2018 World Cup.
No, it won’t be remotely the same team.
It had BETTER NOT be remotely the same team.
Quite simply there are a group of players who were kind of the ‘core’ of the team for the last World Cup cycle that should not be there in 2018. Dempsey, Beckerman, Jones, Beasley, Wondo (sad), and honestly probably Aldtidore would all be surprises if they’re on the 2018 WC team. They’ll just be too old. Even Michael Bradley is going to be 32 and if he’s still forced to be a box to box or attacking mid instead of a defensive holding mid, he might have trouble.
A bigger problem might be a lack of players able to step up and be competitive on the international level in their place.
Thanks, and go As.
I’m pretty nervous going into qualification this time around. We just don’t have a cadre of prime-aged players to replace the guys who are creaking. There’s some really interesting young talent in the 17-22 age range, but I don’t think they can be relied on yet. And the rest of CONCACAF is looking better than usual right now. If we had Costa Rica’s group I’d be panicking.
I think I’d feel better if we moved on from Klinsmann. It’s taken me a while to get there, as I thought he was doing an outstanding job right up until the moment he dropped Donovan, and the World Cup results were pretty good. But this team looks lost right now, he’s openly feuding with and/or disrespecting key players, his handpicked deputy seems to have screwed the pooch in Olympic qualifying, and the team is getting beaten, often comprehensively, by regional rivals. This situation feels toxic, and he is just glibly offering platitudes in response. Enough.
I still think dropping Donovan was fine. He’d said himself he wasn’t fit enough. I guess keeping him instead of Brad Davis’ ears or something as the last man on the roster would have been one thing, but what really killed them was not having an Altidore replacement on the 23.
The U23s can still qualify, they need to win a home/home against Colombia to do it since they beat Canada yesterday.
The feuding thing with players is definitely a concern, as is the apparent lack of tactics during games. He tends to say the right things WRT playing a certain way, being technical, possession based games, etc, but it doesn’t actually happen. Playing guys out of position, insane fitness requirements during camp and running guys into the ground, stuff like that has gotta stop.
I dunno who to replace him with, though. That’s why Bob Bradley was let go, Klinsmann was waiting to take over.
Thanks, and go As.
With a special talent like Donovan, you take him even if he can’t be an every game starter. Like him or not, he’s our Zidane. You trust him to show up on his last big stage. You certainly don’t disrespect him the way Klinsi did, in my opinion. That was especially frustrating for me because I thought the way Klinsi brought him back into the fold after his Cambodian walkabout was brilliant. He had earned his spot back, and he was performing. Crazy decision to discard him a week ahead of the deadline for cuts, unless he refused to come off the bench and was leading a mutiny or something.
Not bringing an Altidore replacement was bad. I think the killer there was Eddie Johnson’s career falling off a cliff right before the tournament. He would have been the guy. Bad timing. I do wish he would have taken a guy like Boyd, though, instead of an injured Johansson. (Not that Boyd is a model of health, but he was fit then.)
I think there are probably a handful of guys in MLS who could do a good job, not to mention plenty of interesting foreign names who would join up for the right price. Fresh eyes on the player pool and a fresh voice for the players to listen to are needed right now.
I know we can still qualify for the Olympics, but beating Colombia is not a likely prospect. Beating Honduras was the route in, and they rolled us.
Aside from maybe Bruce Arena redux, I dunno who from MLS would be able to coach the USMNT. Maybe Kreis?
Fuck it, keep Klinsmann as TD and write Pep a blank check.
Thanks, and go As.
That’s exactly right. The team that starts off the qualifying campaign for the US is often very different than the one that plays in the tournament. There are often guys who can contribute heavily in the early stages, but whose legs won’t hold up through the tournament itself.
The time lag is driven by the fact that national teams don’t play that many games in a year. They get together maybe half a dozen times to play two games, before everyone goes back to their clubs. That means it takes a long time to eliminate all of the little Caribbean islands and Himalayan kingdoms. Or, in the case of South America’s Pac-10 basketballesque system, to play a full home-and-home round robin. There’s no choice but to spread it out over several years.
Go Cubs! It’s Hammel time!
I haven’t been able to bring myself to watch a single pitch of these playoffs. Oddly, the crappiness of the A’s has left me totally uninterested in, if not disgusted by, baseball not involving the A’s. Sounds like I’ve missed out on some drama.
there are a lot of A’s.
like moss single off cahill
No way Cahill is involved in the playoffs. You’re lying to me. Stop lying.
Not only that, but he just got the win in the Cubs NLDS clincher. Vultured, of course.
Is there a guy on the Cubs who looks just like Jack Cust?
plays defense like him too
I saw a picture of him on espn.com and freaked out.
There’s a guy on the Mets bench who looks just like Bob Geren.
Note to Cubs: Maybe don’t put any more ex-A’s on the mound today.
All righty … Yankees and Cards out, I’m liking these playoffs.
With only scrappy, Mom-and-Pop organizations remaining.
Well, at least one desired result was obtained – FK the Cards, those assholes who couldn’t close out the Gnats.
I learned today that there is an app that allows you to order songs in public jukeboxes with your phone – presumably intended for those times when you’re in a crowded bar and you just don’t want to fight your way across the room and dig around for quarters (or you’re too drunk to get off your barstool).
Unless you’re a Cubs fan with extra money and you want to be an asshole to people in St Louis, who probably deserve it.
That’s actually pretty awesome.
Let’s go Jays!
the stroman price decision is looking weirder and weirder
I really, REALLY hate when piss-poor decisions get rewarded.
Thanks, and go As.
you must have really enjoyed the 2010, 12, and 14 post season
None of those happened. IDK what you’re talking about.
Thanks, and go As.
I don’t have much rooting interest in any of this and have watched very little of it. I would say, though, that I have a fairly strong sour grapes attitude about the notion of Josh Donaldson celebrating a postseason series win.
The other one is, “The Cubs not playing in the World Series” is one of the very few lines above “Cal not playing in the Rose Bowl” and I’d prefer that it remain that way.
i don’t think the dodgers can win a 7 game series.
i would love to see a mets/cubs match up
Oh good, it’s not just me.
Oh, you’re definitely not alone.
As sad as it is that it’s not with the A’s, I can’t root against JD. It’s not like it’s his fault he’s with Toronto. And he still loves Oakland.
So, go Blue Jays.
But it was his fault he did fk-all in the playoffs while with the A’s.
Plus, what ec said below about his personality.
In 2012, he had that one double to get 2nd and 3rd 0 out off of Det’s closer. 2013 he sucked. 2014, he did well I think, but I ain’t looking it up.
That was a big double.
It’s too early to celebrate just yet but Cal is looking fairly safe for at least one more year.
All tied up!
And if the way it was un-tied decides the series, LOL.
how is this not interference?
Seems to me it’s very obviously not interference. 100% the catcher’s fault.
It’s not “intentional” interference, that’s for sure. A quick scan of the rule book is not turning up anything definitive so far.
or obstruction whichever
don’t you have to be out of the way of the fielder?
No? If you throw the ball and hit someone in the back, it’s not anything. Choo was just standing there.
right. that is a little more clear in my head
The sulk-off is probably a top 5 A’s memory for me.
yup
Something to rival Reggie’s hip-check from the ’78 Series?
this shouldn’t take tht long in NY. they should already know what the rule is
Well, Choo struck out, but at least it took 18 minutes for Sanchez to get him.
Ok, this game is awesome.
Being ruined somewhat by a Rangers El-Choke-O.
Very entertaining.
i don’t really care who wins. I like both teams
Gameday has reported a bunch of errors and misplays in last few innings. Are collars getting tight out there?
Andrus fielding error. Andrus dropped ball. Andrus dropped ball.
Wow…
Omg Texas what are you doing?
holy hell what is happening to the rangers defense??
This inning has been crazy.
what the ?
For those who didn’t see it: should have been easy popup, Revere went back to first, Odor horribly misplayed it, got the out at 2B.
not high enoug for an infield fly?
Yeah.
holy crap!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
FK you, Texas
This game has everything!
I like bat flips on HRs, that one was great.
i do too, but I like them more because people don’t like them. the korean ones don’t have the same feeling as ones here by total dickheads like bautista, or cool as shit guys like yoenis
Just too bad McCann isn’t the Rangers catcher.
Baseball is so boring.
joe madden just emailed the blue jays radio PXP guy Jerry Howeth who is from hayward i believe
navarro gets kicked out, is donaldson the catcher?
A+ bat flip.
If Yasiel Puig did that, he’d be arrested.
Thanks, and go As.
I bet the RCMP lets him off, but he isnt allowed back in the states.
Ugh. Still a couple more years before sky dome finally gets a grass field. Can’t come soon enough.
Funny: Andrus just handed the Blue Jays a trip to the ALCS
Awesome: He’s under contract until 2022, with a 2023 option.
It’s worth looking at this in all its glory
1.6 WAR this year, 1.1 WAR last year.
Thanks, and go As.
The satisfaction here is that, for a change, it was somebody else who did a brutally ugly crash and burn in the AL Division Series.
And Houston could complete the Texas Double Play shortly.
Although I would prefer Houston advance, then melt down in the next round.
/stillFKingbitteraboutlastyearsoFKKC
Watching Cain go first-to-home on a soft hit makes it look like it should happen more often.
KC’s making plays and Cueto’s making pitches. Not encouraging.
aj hinch is going to relive sitting on his hands for 4 straight singles for about 13 months
Fox has the satisfaction of knowing that either New York, Chicago or L.A. is in the World Series, but we can be pleased with the thought that Toronto vs. Kansas City is costing them a shitload of money.
i am rooting for the blue team
Tye Waller fired, according to the Jane Lee. That should solve everything.
they should have announced the franchise crushing trade today, not this.
is there nothing A’s pr does right?
At least Teas lost.
I’m so annoyed that I missed all of both of Wednesday’s game because of my stupid old job. I really need to get a grant that will allow me to watch baseball and read novels all day.
What you need to do is throw your back out. Because since I did, watching baseball and reading a novel is mostly what I’ve been doing.
Which, BTW, the novel I had on hand was “Mycroft Holmes” by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. I’ve never read a Sherlock Holmes book, but I was curious about his contribution to the genre, and it was really good!
I was rooting for the Jays until last night (well, this morning, because I don’t watch games live), but I find it increasingly hard to stick with it.
Unlike with Texas, whatwith Andrus, Beltre and even Fielder, I don’t really like any of their players. They seem like a bunch of dicks, Donaldson included. Of course, I rooted for him when he was an A, and I think he’s a great ballplayer, but his on-field personality does nothing for me. The only player I find likable is E5 and that tells you something.
And then, there’s the whole thing with beer cans and bottles last night. Forget the fact that the call was 100% correct, you just don’t do that. I know it could have happened at any other stadium, but it happened there. I know the majority of the fans didn’t do that, but the ones who did, did. And I haven’t seen any footage of anyone beating the shit out of their neighbor for throwing shit.
price and stroman.
i come from a culture of throwing shit for mild amusement. I don’t get super offended at that. i was confused by the call at first, the umpires did themselves no favors by sending odor back.
Amusing:
If the home plate ump gets it right from the start and doesn’t give the dead ball sign, there’s no ensuing furor.
Sure, he fucked up. I just don’t see a viable scenario in which throwing a beer can is justifiable.
you have never seen the fastbacks
???
Thanks, and go As.
” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen>
can’t find any video evidence, but in the 90s every fastbacks show was a hail of plastic beer (empty) cups flug at kurt bloch.
no one ever said anytihng about it. it just happened. without complaint or explaination.
heh.
I was thinking punk rock shows more than rock throws.
THE sausage king of chicago?
Wait, that’s Froman huh.
Thanks, and go As.
I come from a culture of having to clean the long-jump pit on every Monday morning so I don’t cut my self on the rests of bottles the idiots threw during during weekend soccer match. We would have been great friends back then.
There’s throwing stuff and there’s throwing almost full beer cans from upper deck. You can literally kill someone with that. Perhaps that’s what you want to do anyway, because anything below grave bodily harm seems like a light return for $15 that can probably cost to purchase.
right, the throwing i remember was not glass or cans at people where it could injure badly.
it was good natured fun at punk rock shows or with friends.
i don’t condone the actions, just want to say it doesn’t offend me as much as other actions.
Canadians. What are you gonna do?
Thanks, and go As.
cespedes’ was still better.
Everything La Potencia does is better. Now I’m thinking I need a similar shirt with the underhand toss back to the infield.
as always the answer is:
Did that bat ever land?
is the bat boy running to it?
I like how the fans kind of look like they’re watching the bat.
He would be a bench bat flipper in Korean league
I’m avidly rooting for the Dodgers, for some reason. Nice grab by Ethier. Ron Darling is a moron, fancy sheepskin notwithstanding.
On this date my Dodger feelings are…complicated.
Too soon?
Nice use of that A’s postseason karma! Well, give Farhan another $50 million to work with and maybe they can get to the NLCS next year.
I generally prefer to see the bigger budget teams fail.
What would piss off Fox? I’m rooting for that team.
No pinch-hitter for Familia?
Not sure I get the Dodgers thinking here. They PH for the kid who drew 90 something walks this year and throw up the shell of Utley and the shitty hitting catcher?
Mattingly is not a good manager.
Thanks, and go As.
this is the correct answer.
PEDERSON HIT 200!!!!!! UTLEY IS 1-1 IN THE SERIES!!!!!
That sentence may soon also be true with the word “good” removed.
the written portion of the exam will be short answers with every choice mattingy made
Called it.
Thanks, and go As.
Gabe Kapler supposedly in the mix
I don’t know a thing about his managing skills, but I really like some of his writing and he’s apparently a pretty smart dude.
Thanks, and go As.
I still got three outta four desired results, and that ain’t bad.
for me, I’d say 2 of 3. I realy didn’t care who won the tx/tor series. I did lean bue jays though
Me too. Guaranteed a team I don’t hate in the WS for the first time in a LONG time.
Holy shit – catch of the decade was just made in the ‘Furd-UCLA game.
I hoped for a Furd loss tonight, but if this same hideous UCLA team shows up against Cal next week I’m OK with it.
so, i am angry?
Yeah, that was AMAZING!! And there just may be another McCaffrey I like as much as Eddie.
Touchdown Seahawks
Thanks, and go As.
Wow. You score 11 runs, never start a defensive inning with less than 5 runs up after the third and yet you burn your closer and your two top setup men. Well done Gibbons
the blue jays need to score 11 to win everyday. I don’t trust their pen
15
… and another one’s gone and another one’s gone and another one bites the dust …
jon sciambi just commented that Cespedes was “not scurred”
poor trevor
oh, wait, they are taking the run back?
what’s the rule? its not an automatic double, its a ground rule double
I thinks it’s a ground-rule double – runners on base advance two bases only.
You’d think there might be some room for umpire’s discretion on that, but da rules is da rules.
The imminent Royals-Mets World Series is the perfect crappy conclusion to this horrible season.
FK the Royals
yes. and fk the blue jays for having such shitty pitching
but they got Cy Young Winner RA Dickey.
Thanks, and go As.
I know I’ve been watching too many West Wing reruns because whenever I see Dickey now I think he should be sneaking out of the Briefing Room to flirt with CJ.
Every ad on Fox is either MMA meatheads kicking each other in the face or a woman tossing a football while she talks about erections.
Lawyer ball
Solicitor ball
Barrister ball?
Eat it, Herrera. You jackass.
Is Gibbons just an idiot? Why does he have Price warming up for a relief appearance with his team up 5 runs with 8 outs to go?
I’m not sure it’s possible to add less value than Harold Reynolds does.
Do you not remember Tim McCarver?
I’m just here to say hi and that I miss you all. Postseason baseball without the A’s is just a sad reminder of the end of the season.
There’s the Jason Hammel we know.
Kinda hard to believe the Cubs wanted him back after unloading him on the A’s last year.
What a gut punch this is must be for Cubs fans. Hope sucks.
they should be pleased.
they have a mnster ine up for next year, and he next and the next
Bryant, Rizzo, Schwarber, Russell, Arrieta is an amazing young core.
But OTOH losing always sucks and wait until next year gets old.
between lester and zimmerman/grienke/price, their pitching wil be ok too.
plus, they have enough ammo for a fuckin a trade
In 2003 they should have been pleased because they were even closer and had probably the 2 best young starters in the game. You cant really be pleased until you win the last game.
And whoever put $10 on the 2015 Cubs after watching BttF
Congrats to Cespy and Bartolo.
And Bob Geren I guess.
A very good read.
This may be the best part of the post season so far.
“There was naught but disappointment for Cubs twirler Jason Hammel.”
Sounds like something that will later end up on his tombstone.
Years ago I had a book titled something like “The New York Times Book of Baseball History”. It was basically a scrapbook of Times articles covering many of baseball’s biggest stories from the early days up to about the early 1970s: Merkle’s Boner, the Sultan of Swat, the Splendid Splinter, the Mackmen of Philadelphia, etc., mostly written in that style. I think I found it on the sale table at a Crown Books or B. Dalton, one of those. It must have succumbed to a storage space purging at some point, which is unfortunate.
One of my favorite books growing up was The Unforgettable Season which is a clip book of the 1908 NL season.
Obviously the stuff around Merkle is great, but I seem to remember these endless posts of spring training that were full of the flowery language.
