      Most annoying weather issue where I live is the wind. We did get a couple inches of snow early this morning but it warmed up quickly and it melted immediately. It’s occasionally snowed a bit during the day and when it does it comes in sideways because of that blasting wind.

      Third on the career list of base hits by players born on February 29. Actually 824 is higher than I would have guessed for his career total. Pepper Martin is #1 with 1227 hits and Al Rosen is second with 1063.

              Crowley managed to hang out in the big leagues for 15 consecutive seasons from 1969-1983 (OK, I’m sure there was a fair amount of AAA time mixed in there but he was your standard 5th-outfielder/pinch-hitter so I bet he was in the majors a lot more than not) while accumulating just 2.3 WAR. You definitely don’t see that anymore.

            Disagree. Sometimes it’s the only way to get a dude to leave you alone when you’re good, you’re awesome, the train just ain’t hitting that particular station tonight and it’s really nothing personal or a comment on him. Since some dudes just take it so *personally*.

            Since, y’know, communication doesn’t always actually, like, work. Faking it, however, lets a girl get some goddamn SLEEP.

            • grover Mar 1,2012 8:53 pm || Up

              I understand what you’re saying but in that scenario, you should make it clear to the guy that this particular ride is about him getting to his destination and to not worry about his fellow passenger.

              And if you’re with a guy who doesn’t/can’t get that… I’ll be honest, that’s stupid. Mostly on your part but a significant chunk on his part as well.

              • Kylianna Mar 1,2012 9:09 pm || Up

                Some dudes just have their ego tied up in that, regardless of what you tell them.

                I find unrelenting honesty to be pretty stupid, so, y’know. To each his or her own.

                  Im kinda particular and sometimes you just want a romp and to be done with it even if it doesnt end the way the textbooks say it should. Girls really get their ego all messed up.

              Hmm… that’s… fair. Helps not to have too much of an ego about that sort of thing. The “love yah, but it just ain’t happening tonight” isn’t too big a deal. It’s much better than “Um… no. Let’s just not do that ever again, just… HEELLLL no, dude.”

              • Kylianna Mar 1,2012 9:09 pm || Up

                  A lot of truth to that. I kind of look at it like baseball. If I can get a good .300-.350 success rate, I’m good. If I’m hitting near Mendoza line, it might be time to release me find a better hitter. Doesn’t mean I don’t hope for better than that, but I know my limits and I know I could never measure up to a good vibrator or a quality shower head in her own hands.

            But yeah-as terrible as it would be to hear how it sucked and was bad, its much worse to lie. Both for that time, and even more if you care about the person enough that you may be doing it again in the future.

                And see this reminds me of my friend’s marital drama too. Wife ignores/glosses over/lies about true feelings for quite some time so she “won’t hurt hubby’s feelings”. Then she gets to the point thatits too much and is out the door. My friend hears for the first time that there is a real problem when she is saying “i dont love you anymore so lets not try and work this out.”

                Now inj that case of course I also tell my friend that he needs to be paying attention and should have known something. But again-if you are faking you shouldnt expect the other person to change and real improvement to happen.

                  I’m familiar with that particular brand of vodka…

                  Don’t go blaming your friend, yet. I know in my case that I realized there was “something” wrong and tried, repeatedly to talk to my now ex about what was going on. And she gave several convincing answers (lost her job, couldn’t get pregnant, Dad had cancer, etc.) all the while going out of her way to not bring up how she wasn’t sure if she still loved me.

                  So, not knowing what if any signs your friend may have missed but believe you me when you talk to your significant other about “what’s wrong” and they reply that they’re upset about their father undergoing chemo for colon cancer and how they’re anxious about not being able to find a new job… yeah, those are sufficient reasons to be upset about and make an effective smoke screen to hide other issues.

                  Right. This is what happened to me. I knew something was wrong but getting her to tell me what I was doing that was problematic and how she wanted me to fix it was the problem. Me trying to fix things on my own made things worse. It sucked. Im really sorry this happened to you. I couldn’t imagine how much that would suck if I had a kid with her and had been married and was older. Im sorry dude.

                  I made a lot of mistakes with my ex and we’re both responsible for the failure of our marriage. One of my worst mistakes was my need/thinking to “fix” her problems.

                  I still lay most of the fault for our end on her, though. =D

                  For my friend it is real wierd for me because we are such good friends with him and his wife, so Mrs. Aces is getting to hear the other side of the story and brings me intel. (She sides with the wife as far as the ultimate causes, but thinks the way my friends wife is going about it and what she is doing no is utter BS especially since she loves my friend and knows he is a good guy). It makes me sick to hear how my friend’s wife has told him “don’t persue me just give me space or you will push me away faster” and then tells my wife how she can’t believe he isnt trying to make eforts and trying to persue her.

                  Never, ever, try and make me feel better by saying DFA is right.

                  Don’t mind me, I’m venting. ‘Tis good for me.

                  That said, from my perspective, your friend is screwed. His marriage is over and his missus is playing your wife to keep her on her side. (Again, that’s my perspective.) It really doesn’t matter who is more at fault for the problems in the relationship; if both sides aren’t working towards addressing them and making things right then the marriage needs to end, officially. I can get that she needs “space”. Or time. Or whatever she/you/whomever wants to call it. Everyone has their own way of processing the pain and heartache… the key is to be selfish without hurting the other person.

                  If your friend’s wife is fucking some other guy while trying to deal with what’s going on in her relationship with her husband then she’s crossed the line of doing what’s best for her and is solidly in the land of hurting your friend. Because I don’t care what the soaps say Susie doesn’t need to go off and bang Rocco to figure out if she loves Bill and wants to be with him.

                  “Susie” is acting in such a way that you may soon have to choose to be friends with either her or “Bill”. You’ve only told me parts of the story and I’m sure the whole thing is far more complex then you’ve shared or as I’ve described in the soap opera metaphor. But right now “Susie” sounds like an immature bitch and “Bill” an idiot but faithful friend.

                  Personally I deal with bitches much, much better than I can deal with idiots. But immature vs. faithful? No doubt which side I choose there.

                  You would think after all this time I would know better…Let me try more helpful phrasing..

                  g you are 100% on the money. And your great points are only matched by your stunning good looks. (And I actually love that we can all vent here so always keep it coming).

                  And yeah, the situation is deeper than I’ve put down because I assume no one wants a half hour front page post about ghost hunting, Master’s degrees, and aromatherapy. But you hit all the big points dead on and there is no decision: “Bill” is my friend and “Susie is pretty much dead to me. Mrs. Aces can ride the nuanced fence as much as she wants but she knows that, no matter if they should be together or not the way it is being handled by “Susie” is no-good.

                  Alright friends. I know that it’s gonna sound icky to some of you, but seriously, it’ll solve a lot of yr problems…

                  go gay/bi.
                  turn queer.
                  teach yourself how to love your own gender. it might not be as hard as you think.

                  Since this site is behind google shields, I can say the following…

                  not every single gay person is born that way. to some people, it is a choice. it’s politically bad to say at this time because it gives the goddamn conservatives too much ammo in the public venue, but a generation from now, it can be talked about openly in mixed company.

                  Why might one turn queer/bi, one might ask. Two big reasons… It greatly enlarges your potential dating pool, and it enlarges said pool with people who think differently than the people you used to date. A lot of communication problems are nonexistent in relationships among like thinkers with the same hormones flowing through them in the same cycle.

                  An interesting suggestion. Problem is, I have much better relationships with women than I do men. Plus, with my luck, I’d still have to be the one asking for a phone number and I am just SO tired of doing that.

                  not every single gay person is born that way. to some people, it is a choice.

                  That’s been my quiet observation for some time. I’m glad to hear you confirm it.

                  When you’re working with such a complex set of variables such as gender identification, sexual attraction, individual libido, and human sexual response–then throw in free will and conscious behavior, it doesn’t surprise me that, as you say, for some it is a choice.

                  I don’t pretend to be an expert in the subject or have an all-encompassing unifying theory but I do have my experience with a sister who came out as gay in high school, then after a series of lesbian relationships and a failed lesbian marriage, met and fell in love with a transgender man (female to male) to whom she has been happily married the last 13 years. And there is also my best friend from childhood, who was straight until college, then bi, then married a woman with whom he had two kids, then became divorced and now identifies himself as gay.

                  People can be complicated and so, too, their motivations/desires for love and sex.

                  Where is the good in "good-bye"?

        I wanted to adopt at least three of these kids. You don’t know why they are at the school until the end of the day, then it breaks your fking heart. One of the boys had been in 15 foster homes and institutions in 4 years. He was 11. His parents are in prison for drugs, his other two siblings were adopted and he wasn’t. They have him set goals for his stay, and his goal was to get adopted and leave the group home. Other kids had goals that were like, keep my room clean and maintain rewarded activity level of a certain amount. He was soooo freaking smart. He said he just wants someone to stay in his life for once. KILLED ME.

        Another 11 year old boy kicked my ass playing chess. At the end of the day, he thanked me and gave me a hug. Why was he there? He was molested and had sex with his twin brother a few years ago.

        I hear what you are saying, lynn. It makes it tough on the parents. One advantage to homeschooling, is that there is the ability to adapt the curriculum to enhance the student’s chances. We are changing our 6th grade son’s to a vocational based education. That would be impossible in a public school setting. Unfortunately, most parents aren’t in the position to be able to do this.

    So here’s a funny thing.

    I was on FB and in the ‘People you might know’ section an old friend popped up. So I sent an friend request to them. The problem being – I think their account is invisible ‘cos I searched for their name and I literally can’t find them.

    Is that even possible? Why would it come up in the ‘People you might know’ section if they’re invisible?

    • SPWC Mar 1,2012 4:18 pm || Up

      maybe they’ve blocked you in advance?

      • OldhamA Mar 1,2012 4:21 pm || Up

        Then why would they come up on my ‘People you may know’ list?

        I had a friend search for them – they also couldn’t find the profile.

        I think I might be going slightly mad.

        • FreeSeatUpgrade Mar 1,2012 4:47 pm || Up

          I don’t do the Facebook. But my guess would be that old friend made a profile, then deleted it (or changed it or renamed it or made it more private or something). The original profile still triggers the people you might know function, but you cannot now actually get to it.

          "Kraut will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no kraut."
    • dmoas Mar 1,2012 6:30 pm || Up

      Unless I’m mistaken, you can hide your profile from searches, but the “People you may know” section is pulled from mutual contacts so it’s a whole separate thing. Removing yourself from searches, doesn’t make you invisible, it just makes it so the only people who are within a degree or two of separation will find you find.

      • OldhamA Mar 2,2012 2:31 am || Up

        Well I have this person’s email address – which is where I assume the ‘People you may know’ section pulled the name from.

        I don’t think they’ve blocked me specifically, but you never know.

        • elcroata Mar 2,2012 2:49 am || Up

            Other people put their address books in, and it will suggest them to you as friends if you are in their address book. In addition to using the network data it already has from your existing contacts.

      8. In most career paths, but especially in the political one, people have long memories and hold grudges, so it’s worth developing your contempt-hiding skills. Mine are excellent, but even so, a couple instances years ago of indulging my (correct) feeling of superiority mean that even to this day there are some politicians I need to steer clear of. Which is annoying.

          You run into incompetents who are above you in hierarchies all the time. If they’re pressing you like that, it means that already suspect you don’t respect them. Confirming their suspicions doesn’t help you, no matter how correct you are, or how good it feels in the moment.
