Hi peeps. I came to drop a random comment in the series thread and then leave, but most everybody’s probably AT the game tonight, so instead I’ll create the thread… and then leave.
But I’m drinking tonight, so I may well come back around once in a while.
\"Weren\'t you already aware the Kay is already writing everyone\'s story? We\'re all just characters who believe we are real. Things make more sense now, don\'t they. Be honest.\"- DMOAS
Where’s Bed when you need him?
Nice first inning snag by the rookie in deep center.
And another one in the second inning.
I just saw someone wearing a shirt from some surf shop that had a logo with the letters SPWC (I forget in what order).
Awww. My heart is warmed.
Laureano tried to snap his own leg on that slide.
Glen and Ray just deciding that all home runs hit in the seventh inning or later are more important than other home runs. How is it possible to be this dumb
Either they’re showing me a shit angle or that is obviously foul.
Mark Canha walks up to Bob Dylan?
NO ONE CONTROLS THEIR OWN DESTINY!
Someone eventually gets to every batted ball.
(Are we just correcting every obvious stupid things Glen/announcers say?)
Three innings without a hit and the most exciting thing to happen on the field was a long foul ball that was pretty clearly foul, yeah, I’m gonna resort to shitting on Glen and Ray.
First pitch Laureano sees in his MLB career is a terrible call.
Kid’s got some wheels.
Dallas Braden celebrates a corporation’s marketing department like it was the birth of his first son.
Also…
Braden: “You guys doing anything after this? After that power drink I feel like I could…do some things. You, uh, got anything I could clean?”
Fosse: “The stadium?”
Sometimes these guys are funny.
Am I hallucinating this Anderson start
The awkward phrases have begun. “15 up 15 down”.
And yes, this is a hallucination GM. If it goes 6 I woll start drinking because it is a sign of the end times.
Fosse fucked up and said “He’s just been perfect so far”
The 78-run inning to follow is all his fault now
Oh well.
And hey, looks like Im gonna have a drink anyways!
FWIW, today is National IPA Day.
Thanks, and go As.
I think I’ll celebrate that with some vodka.
In the land of the nobody getting on base, the man with two walks is king.
This strike zone is the size of Oklahoma City.
Makes sense Anderson plays the role of Hippo in this modern retelling.
Dallas Braden wisely advises us all to “stay hard.”
One of the more wtf pitcher’s duels in recent memory.
BA was pulled because his arm fell off, right? Or stuck in the dugout john.
Come on kid. Be a hero.
He’s a bum! Send him down!
Close.
Thank goodness we didn’t have to face Ryan Borucki I guess.
The Blue Jay fans have taken over Safeco.
As have the Blue Jay players.
Um, Seattle is practically canada. He should go to a game in detroit
I didn’t realize there were so many Jays fans in BC.
Canadian pride runs deep
I don’t understand why Vancouver doesn’t make an expansion push. It seems like a better prospect than Portland.
British Columbia’s ain’t gonna pay for a domed stadium
And they would need it
Missing only a dismissive jab at the Canadian tuxedo.
I’m fine with this. I don’t like it when visiting fans take over the Coliseum either.
Well here we go boys.
It’s on baby.
Gah
Dang, great chance.
The home plate umpire is 99% of the reason this game is scoreless. The other 1% is the play Piscotty just made.
Fantastic catch!
Ok, pie time pls.
Or gatorade since we dont do pie anymore..whatever.
Outfield flashin the leather tonight!
Rookie pinch runner, feh.
This team is not allowed to run in any way…
Now do we have to burn another bench player to get Martini in so Canha can play first?
I guess Lowrie can play first.
That was just ridiculous. From Barreto TOOTBLANing like an idiot to Canha overswinging like an idiot, that was incredibly frustrating.
OK. New kid for the win.
This fucking strike zone.
At this point swinging for the fences is the smart tactic.
This game would be a perfect teaching tool for explaining why human umpires harm the game. You can see all the effects of human umpires: the obvious one where bad pitches are called strikes, the knock-on effects where hitters feel forced to swing outside the zone, etc.
No shit Glen, you always think it has a chance.
Night game sure yeah I suppose but a lot of strong Lowrie swings have become routine flies last month.
I could see that drop coming the entire time.
FNG
Yeah, that’s getting challenged.
He was out, but that kind of call bugs me
I agree. Assuming we’re talking about the same thing, it’s one of several minor baseball rules that I think have substantial negative quality-of-life impacts on the game, and whose changes could make the game significantly better. Once you reach the bag safely, provided you don’t make a move toward the next one, you should be safe. There’s no risk of an NFL catch rule kind of situation either, because it’s pretty clear what a baseball move is and is not in this context. You overslide the bag, that’s very clearly not attempting to go to the next one. Perhaps a runner could signal his wish to have the ball be ruled dead so he could stand up without appearing to be making a move toward the next base or something. Could be some ins and outs around when he can do that if there are multiple runners on the basepaths to work out, I don’t know. But the status quo is stupid.
That said, I think it’s possible the tag actually got him on the hand before his foot touched the bag anyway.
It’s a replay created problem. Before the umps by convention just didn’t care about small on/off bag movements once the primary call was made. Not sure how you rule-write a solution though.
Yeah, but guys always have gotten called out when they overslide the bag, and I think that’s dumb shit.
Nah, there shouldn’t be any safety in passing the bag. If you need to get up, call time. It’s nearly always granted. But overslide the bag or lose your grip? Well, you need to be better at sliding.
Now that one I’m cool with.
Hey hey the kid redeems. Great inning for Pagan.
Pretty sure that’s the first time I’ve actually seen Lucroy get a hit.
FNG!
Every time they play another angle of that hit, I get to hear somebody yelling “YEAH! FUCK YEAH!” in the background.
Hee hee hee!
The number of “fuck yeahs” on this broadcast
4.5 behind the suddenly shitty Yankees.
4
3.5
2.5
And we still play the Yankees 3 times.
Another clutch walk from Martini. What a find that guy is.
Well, how does it end?
My plane took off with one out in top tenth. I spent five hours where they hadn’t lost or won
Also, east coast is so lame. It’s 130 on a Saturday and there is no baseball yet
Also also
This morning we reached the randomly high fiving strangers the next day at Target stage.
I have noticed more A’s caps of late in downtown SF.
Can confirm more in the mission and airport
I thought there were more A’s than Giants at the golf tournament in Reno yesterday.
That’s what being an A’s fan outside California is like all the time. If I see someone else in A’s gear out here in the rest of the country, it’s always a high five. I once pulled over into a gas station just to high-five some dude in Oklahoma City who had an A’s bumper sticker.
Great photo
Make it so!
What kind of sentimental hack is writing this script [gets Kleenex]
[googles Wally pip]
Kuiper, Fosse, and Braden are apparently broadcasting from The Treehouse tonight. This could get weird.
I’m a fan of gimmicks, generally, but deliberately choosing a bad vantage point to describe a game from seems dubious.
BELTED LEFT FIIIIIELD, i don’t know
Hey, “it’s just kind of a hang sesh.” Who cares about the game.
Glen watches the TV monitors to call the games anyway. He doesn’t bother watching the field.
Will they all get food poisoning from that stuff sitting in the sun growing bacteria like crazy?
I had this thought too, that stuff was out a good 20 min before Chef Iffy came on to describe it.
And then Fosse has been talking about how the sun is keeping it warm for him.
More Semien’s fault than Martini’s.
that is my opinion
Zimmermann has Jerry Garcia disease. He just turned 32 and could easily pass for 15 years older than that.
jack kuiper better not keep that ball
Over here imagining the Kuiper family dinner table.
There’s a baseball game going on down there you FKing chuckleheads no one cares about your waffle sandwich.
I can tell the syncing of Ken and Vince with the TV has extra utility tonight.
I just switched over briefly to see how out of sync they were for me, and got to hear Ken describe that foul as a “knob job.”
Excellent
Zimmerman doesn’t look sharp. I am hoping this second time through is the end.
I was about to say I thought he looked pretty good…
Mine as wish casting based on his allowing runners.
Turns out he did ok except the 2 hrs in that inning
Things I wish no one had ever told Ray about: food delivery, launch angles, Eck’s walkoff piece story.
Oh god and now Johnny Cochran’s quote,
Chapman has been hitting the ball hard to all fields of late. It’s quite something.
One of the lowest HRs to center field I’ve ever seen in this park.
Second time through is going pretty well so far.
Braden, you dumbass, the kid didn’t get in the stadium with a pass that only starts next season.
Yeah I’m not sure that guy had ever been to an A’s game in his life.
I almost commented upthread that I was in favor of players being called out on true overslides, as opposed to the ones where they lose contact with the bag for a fraction of a second while they are still on top of it.
And there we get one of those. In our favor for once.
I didn’t see it, but I want to go all the way on overslides. An overslide should be treated as functionally the same as running through first base. When you run through first base and then turn toward second, you’re considered a runner again. I’m sure there have been disputes about that a couple of times over the years, but I don’t recall seeing one.
I don’t agree with you at all on this. Learn how to slide correctly, which means being under control and able to stay on the bag.
No this is wrong. The ball’s in play, learn to stay on the damn base. That’s why it’s called a base.
Then why should a runner be able to run through first?
More fun. Same reason not to reward overslides.
At far as over running first, that starts the play as opposed to already reached and therefore must protect their position on the bases. *
I think the overslide should be out, but the incidental popping off the base but holding it when you come to a stop should be safe.
I also think that Olson should have been safe. I thought that was the rule, if the glove strings hit you you are safe.
Here’s another TAKE for everybody: I actually think that any contact a runner makes, prior to reaching the base, with a fielder who has possession of the ball should be an out.
I might be able to get behind this one.
3rded. I hate the stupid “did he lift his foot” stuff. But if you overslide tough titties.
Also: don’t run on 22.
Or 21!
You know the team is doing well when Stacey the banjo guy hops back on the bandwagon to grab some TV time.
That drummer chick has been there all the time though. I’ve seen her before.
“We don’t get this in the booth.” Yes, now consider why.
So my hometown just won the US Championship in the Intermediate LLWS (age 11-13, 50/70 rules.. 50 foot mound, 70 foot bases)
It’s actually hosted in Livermore. They play the Championship tomorrow against South Korea, 6pm ESPN2.
Thanks, and go As.
That’s awesome, go Livermore!
Their stats have spray charts!
And then on Monday bomb Japan.
as is tradition.
Thanks, and go As.
Melvin isn’t FKing around with Anderson or Jackson.
13-1/3 IP with 1 R/0 ER for Brett and Jackson on consecutive nights. If I’d known back in March that those two would start back-to-back games in early August I would have made other plans for the summer right then and there.
This Tigers lineup is very bad.
But you know what? Thats what I thought about the Blue Jays earlier this week too. At some point, when everyone we play is very bad, maybe it isnt that they are very bad.
I think there’s a difference between the Blue Jays offense (middle of the pack) and the Tigers offense (bottom of the barrel). These guys really suck.
They struck out 10 times against Cahill. I rest my case.
Jackson looked really bad, as always.
If they can get us past 6 he shouldnt. Hell..a week ago I would have said 4.2 is great.
The A’s should probably give Lucroy a two-year extension if that’s what it takes to keep him next year.
Agreed with GM. Though I want to take care of Krush first.
I can’t deal with Glen and Ray. Switching over to the radio feed.
You’re missing all the great Gerber jokes.
Ray should do ads for them using the catch phrase he came up with: “If you’ve had a baby, you know about Gerber.”
Vince struggling mightily with basic arithmetic.
Realizing uncomfortably that Jed has been completely awful since that collision in SF.
Bingo
Good thing we’ve just kept throwing him out there everyday instead of a DL stint
Well it isnt like we have a good hitting good fielding MI in AAA that we have brought up multiple times that could take his place for a week…
Yes, DL him bring up barreto.
AS for today, Pinder to second Lereano in center canha to left.
Had a chance to win the game last night had that lineup been in.
They’re going to come for Melvin, aren’t they.
Actually, the story names Eric Chavez as a possible successor!
“Nothing has changed,” Scioscia repeated. “Nothing has changed.”
Sounds like the team is giving Scioscia the chance to make it look like his choice, but when it comes to appearances he says “poppycock”.
My impression was that he’s told top management he’s leaning strongly toward leaving after this year “but let me sleep on it a few nights before I give you a final decision”, nobody objected and someone, possibly even Arte himself, leaked to Rosenthal with the hope of giving him a nice shove in the desired direction.
They have handled this extremely poorly for years now. Seems to me that Moreno can’t bring himself to fire the guy, and so everybody in the organization has been trying to get him to fire himself. Kind of a Trump/Kushner situation.
1. Why would Melvin want to go?
2. Can a manager be put on the DL with back spasms?
For that 10-year, $50 million contract Scioscia got!
Bob’s contract has not been extended, and there was a story a few weeks ago (Slusser I think but I don’t remember specifically) that there might be wholesale changes. Bob also has his house on the Oakland/Berkeley line up for sale.
Why would there be wholesale changes? Is ownership actively committed to making the team worse or something?
I think the article was actually right before we started this run. Not that makes it a better decision, but rumors like that with a team again under .500 make more sense.
You’re right about the timing. June 18.
He might be a little pissed they didn’t let him interview for the Yankees job.
For $5M a year…yeah, that would just about do it.
20 over!
Bip wants to talk about “how clutch the offense was tonight.”
Uh, not clutch at all?
The Mariners just got their first hit of the night.
Unusual and kind of cool to hear an Australian accent (I think it is Ryan Rowland-Smith) on the Seattle TV broadcast.
A streaker at Safeco!
The Mariners are depressing.
But it makes sense. Leblanc and leake are not the answers you are looking for. Not that Jackson and Cahill and Anderson are
The three games they have lost to Toronto were started by Felix, Gonzales, and Paxton.
The problem, it seems to me, is that they can’t hit and they only have one good reliever.
Anti-A’s.
Also in their collection of guys who are constitutionally incapable of drawing a walk, like Gordon and Healy.
They have never been constructed well
I did like the Culome trade. I didn’t understand the Healy one. Pagan has been ok. I like him better than healy
Their offense was pretty good in April, May and June. Then suddenly really bad in July and so far even worse in August.
It looks like Segura, Haniger, and Seager all just stopped hitting. And Gordon completely killed us (14/27 with 6 steals in 6 games), but apparently was never good against anybody else.
Seager’s overall numbers are shockingly bad. He’s too young to just fall of a cliff like that.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me dozens of times in a row with exactly the same trolly tactics, shame…goddamn people are idiots.
Current AL West Pythagorean standings are kind of a mess.
HOU: 77-35 (actual record is underperforming by 6 wins)
OAK: 61-51, 16 GB (outperforming by 5 wins)
LAA: 59-53, 18 GB (underperforming by 4 wins)
SEA: 53-58, 23.5 GB (outperforming by 10 wins)
TEX: 51-61, 26 GB (underperforming by 2 wins)
Doesn’t surprise me. This team definitely feels like it’s been very lucky.
The one-run-game stat is crazy
Wait how’s that not an out at second? He has the ball and is touching the bag for a split second. That’s an out, right?
yawn
In a more serious rules change proposal, if the Tigers had scored in the top of the 1st they would have been unearned runs due to Cahill’s throwing error. I think runs scoring due to a pitcher’s own error should be charged as earned runs to that pitcher so his ERA gets dinged.
Don’t break Chapman
Umpire has to decide with 17 inches are the plate
I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen a hitter with KD’s opposite field power.
Piazza?
It really doesn’t make sense how the ball carries off his bat.
So when do the rumors start?
Small sample size overreaction of the day: Laureano looking like he could stick on the roster permanently.
Is he vulnerable to he outside slider?
I know it’s based on absurdly SSS but it seems like Laureano has given more reason for optimism in 2-1/2 games than Fowler gave in 3 months.
Knowing that we stole him from Houston makes me like him even more.
Must be the end of Hatcher.
Please please please
Good ratios but is very prone to giving up the long ball. Probably an improvement over Hatcher and Dull.
Sounds like a good fit for the Coliseum.
Smolinski to 60 means its dull or wendelken out.
Another reason Bob might want out: They send out guys he’s willing to use because they have options, while hanging on to somebody like Hatcher or, even worse, Butler and Casilla because they’ve committed the money and refuse to write it off.
Slusser confirms
to make room for Kelley and Fiers.
Hatcher aside, I like the sound of going back to a 7-man pen. I assume the other move tomorrow will be Barreto down for Pinder.
Brett to LOOGY? like in Detroit!
Luzardo’s job
This makes it sounds like they gave Smo the blood clot in order to clear room.
You like throwing gloves? Wait till you see our chairs
Oh it’s that guy? Now I love this move. He got absolutely abused by the Nationals for some shit that no one should care about.
Pretty wild that the precipitating event for the Nationals dumping a useful player was that they were winning a game by too much.
Over the last 3 years, he’s given up HRs/PA at a pace midway between Olson and Davis.
Not ideal
Lol, Toronto just tied it up in the 7th against the Mariners.
Off topic, but Josh Donaldson started out as a catcher, right? I’m not imagining that?
Yes he did. I mean for one game in a wild card game to replace our weakest hitter??? Unfortunately there’s no way he gets past Cleveland. Seattle might not claim him because of Seager/Cruz though.
Is he on waivers or something? I legit was not referring to anything at all, I was just thinking back to the old conversations way back in the day about who was going to be the catcher of the future and I was sure that I used to argue that a platoon of Lando and Donaldson could hold the position down until whoever the big prospect in our system was. Max something?
Stassi?
Yes, Donaldson was primarily a catcher coming up through the minors and even in his first callup. He didn’t really start hitting until they moved him to 3B.
And started using Chris carters bat.
And the leg kick or something
Both Stassi and Muncy are in the majors and were A’s C’s. (Max)well is … not.
As for waivers, Donaldson is almost assuredly on waivers since he is a FA at the end of the year. The Jays could save some money and get a prospect if they trade him. Or they could maybe offer the RO in the offseason.
Doesn’t seem like a lot of reason for the A’s to want him right now, no? Where would he fit, and is he healthy?
Well he obviously fits at catcher. Or you could do something stupid like Chapman -> SS or Khrush -> LF.
It’s somewhat amazing, but even if he was healthy, I don’t think he fits. The MVP from a couple years ago who is 32 doesn’t fit. That’s a testament to how good the team has gotten.
Does he really fit at catcher? Has he caught a meaningful amount of games in the majors? I’m not sure it’s that he doesn’t fit per se–if the A’s could get him for free, he fits–but that he doesn’t necessarily represent enough of an upgrade at any position he could be realistically put in to be worth the package we’d probably have to give up for him, especially as a very short-term rental who’s rehabbing an injury.
Related note: he’s getting shredded on Twitter for having the audacity to watch something other than a Blue Jays game last night. Like him not watching harms their chances or some shit.
He played a few games at catcher for the A’s in 2010 when Kurt Suzuki was injured and he got sent back down after not hitting a lick and not being particularly great behind the plate, as I recall. Once they traded for Derek Norris, the A’s moved him off the position forever and the rest is history.
Donaldson played some 2b in college briefly
he may be better than I think
stopped clock and all
“Donaldson” apparently being the Oakland equivalent of “Beetlejuice.”
does that make DFA evil?
Nope, just responsive, in that adorable way Pavlov described.
Nice to see you again, DFA.
Welcome back, FKer!
Ill only stay around if Im arguing with people less than last time, but I think warmly of you all.
Why Cleveland/
They can move Ramirez to 2b, could use another hitter and unless there’s a complete logjam, JD was the 2nd or 3rd most valuable player in the majors since he left to Toronto. MLBTR suggested it could make sense.
That makes sense. Is Kipnis not a thing? I haven’t noticed
Hitting .218/.301/.352, 78 wRC+. Still has a $13.5M salary though.
Sean Murphy in a cast is an upgrade, yeah?
Yes, he wouldn’t have physically been able to swing at that 3-2 pitch in the dirt.
Can beau taylor play defense? He certainly cant hit
Stay on the bag kid, its not Ben folds nuts rules aren’t here yet
Do you think the ball should have been ruled dead because he called time, or was he not entitled to call time yet because he wasn’t firmly affixed to the bag?
Damnit, Nelson Cruz is a one man wrecking crew for Seattle.
I still remember Dave Cameron blasting that signing.
That “old takes exposed” account could be 100% Dave Cameron takes.
I’m glad Chapman is finally growing out the plebe induction haircut.
He will be Timothy Hutton from taps until he retires.
WTF with Semien getting all surly about popups that aren’t his?
Something needs to be done about this. This whole series has been bad with those
Also, pls stop running into Man Named Jed.
Nice win, fellows!
Man, Detroit is really bad.
The Tigers were trotting out a lineup you’d expect for the third week of September.
I thought the A’s played about the same quality of baseball this weekend as they did last weekend, the difference between 0-3 and 3-0 being the difference between the Rockies and Tigers.
Yes, i like wins. But these past 7 have been uninspiring
The next 28 games: 14 vs. teams with Pythagorean records >.500, plus 7 more vs. the Mariners. The real tough part given the way Bob uses his bullpen is 20 straight without an off day from Aug. 17 thru Sept. 5. Give me 16-12, that puts them at 83-58 with 21 to go and the second wild card should be in the bag. Better than 16-12, they can have higher aspirations.
17-11.
This was about right. Second wild card looking pretty secure right here. As far as higher aspirations, that’s a slim hope. The Yankees probably win the tiebreaker for home field for the wild card so that’s sketchy. If they had won one more vs. the Astros over this stretch for 18-10 their division hopes would be much brighter.
Isn’t it a coin flip since their head to head is matched? Then again, who are we kidding even if it is.
Unless the rules have changed in the last few years, it’s “intradivision record.” We’re so far behind the Yankees on that front that if we somehow make up the difference we will surely be ahead of them in the regular standings.
That’s the tiebreaker, and while the A’s are 3.5 games behind the Yankees in the overall standings they are 6 games behind in intradivision record. So realistically the A’s have to gain 4.5 games on them to host the wild card game. The A’s were so bad against the AL West in April and May that they are still under .500 there (30-34, .469) while they are 54-23, .701 vs. everybody else.
4 GB of Houston.
That the first time we’ve swept two season series (from American League teams) in the same year?
LOLYANKEES
Sonny warming up…
Ok, this is another reason to think the east coast is lame/mlb sucks. I went to bed it was 4-1 yankees. I am in Massachusetts. There is no reason that game goes past 10. Start is before 8edt
I think it was an 8pm EDT start because of ESPN Sunday Night Baseball. Still a super slow game though.
No game till 1 pm and ending after midnight sucks
Me too!
bring these back
Those pants are incredible.
Hell yeah. They did a giveaway of a shersey of a similar design (white instead of gold and green) when I was a kid and I loved that thing.
Endorsed 100%
If you like clowns…
Yeah that’s too much
yellowgold even for me.Been there done that.
Not quite right. Needs to say Oakland or it’s fake news.
There’s a Scott Ostler column in this morning’s Sporting Green comparing Khris Davis to Willie Mays. We are through the looking glass.
what the?
I am not making this up.
feels a little racist. but I wonder if davis does take bart
That kicker is weird as hell.
There are *two* ptbnls??
I immediately thought of Grant Holmes and Kaprielian just because they’re currently injured. But it says “or cash considerations” – that sort of implies there’s not that much value in the potential players involved right?
if he got to the A’s on waivers, I assume he wold pass through all the way. I don’t see the yankees red sox or astro wanting him (although mccullers may change things)
I am hoping its a pittance.
Not that I give a rat’s ass about Bleich, aside from the humor potential from his name, but why on earth is Graveman still on the 40-man roster?
My guess is they are hoping they can sneak Bleich through waivers right now and save the Graveman 60-day move for when they don’t have anyone left to DFA who someone else would want on their roster.
It worked with the Carlos Ramirez DFA when they reinstated Powell. No one claimed him and now he is at Nashville and off the roster.
looks like barretto is pulling his weight with the bat.
Lowrie is going to make another team very a little disappointed next year.
off night?
Try tuning in to luzardo v rivercats at 5 PDT
Peter Bourjos is on the River Cats.
5Ks and 7 singles through four scoreless.
“Scattered” 7 hits.
Thanks, and go As.
6Ks, 8 scattered through 5 scoreless and that’s probably it.
the 4 hits I saw were dinkers. BABIP’d
5th inning delayed because Liam Hendricks was ejected by the third base umpire while sitting in the bullpen.
I seem to know nothing about him outside his updates, that we got him for Gray(?) and that he’s coming off of TJS(?). But all the reports basically make him sound like a pitching god if he stays healthy. So basically a lefty Harden.
Got him for Doolittle (also Treinen and Neuse). This is his first full year after TJS. And yes, he is a pitching god.
I maintain that 81 pitch 1 hitter by Harden was the single most dominant pitching performance I have ever seen. More than Braden’s perfecto, Maneaea’s no-hitter, Mulder’s perfect game into the eighth, or Hudson’s 1 hitter.
Jesus. How much are the Nats going to regret that trade?
Well Doolittle has been awesome (not as awesome as Treinen) but Luzardo and Neuse >>>>>>>>> Madson
Thanks, and go As.
that was such a cool game to watch
Wut
i give him a pass. he is excited. the season is starting. he is full of optimism.
If Springer is out for two full weeks he would miss the Astros’ series in Oakland. He’s .400/.464/.620 vs. the A’s this year.
MikeV Bait
All beer is terrible, but Pliny the Younger was the superior Pliny.
Love.
Thanks, and go As.
A couple upcoming television notes:
1. The Wed. Aug. 22 afternoon game at the Coliseum gets the dreaded Facebook Watch treatment. The only way to watch live is by being logged into a Facebook account. I don’t often watch the weekday afternoon games live anyway and it will be available like any other telecast on the MLB.tv archive that evening.
2. ESPN is obligated to show each team at least once during the season. The A’s haven’t been on yet, but they have finally been selected, for the Labor Day afternoon game at the Coliseum vs. the Yankees.
The A’s warn attendees tomorrow to get to the lot early, as parking will be tight due to the Hall and Oates concert next door.
Hall and Oates can fill an arena in 2018? My goodness.
This sounds like a joke someone would make in a Deadspin comments section.
This is the first time I’ve seen a shift with all four infielders to the right of second base (Mariners vs. Joey Gallo, Seager starts on the left side but after the first strike on Gallo he moves to the right of second).
The Twins used a shift yesterday against the Royals with three infielders to the right of second and the fourth infielder in deep right center as a fourth outfielder.
Mariners in Bullpen Implosion Mode in Arlington. Wade LeBlanc had the Rangers popping up and hitting weak grounders, he’d thrown 82 pitches and he got pulled to try to get the righty/lefty advantage, and it ain’t workin.
They seem to be in a general implosion mode.
Poopity poop, but that’s the logical outcome when you play a 12-inning game after trading your entire bullpen at the deadline.
Poopity scoop?
The new 2019 A’s Access tixs are apparently selling like hotcakes, and I was already down, but I hadn’t even heard this part yet: first rights “to purchase 2018 postseason tickets, including a “Pay As We Play” option rather than purchasing all postseason games in advance, as is typical.” Not demanding a few grand in tied up money is a great change. Also avoiding the horribly sad moment when you recycle all your unused LCS and World Series tix.
I’m starting to wish I could find a way to move back to the Bay Area for next season, or even the end of this one.
I’ve got be believe that that’s actually better for the team administratively too. Getting all that money upfront only to have to return it all has got to eat up time and energy that’s better spent on other things. Far more than gained for such a brief investment of having that money in hand.
My financially-struggling 28-year-old self didn’t mind the refunds in 1989. I had options to buy tickets at Candlestick for Games 3-5 and just flat couldn’t afford 7 World Series games at that time, the 4 at the Coliseum were a stretch, so I was in my then-home city of Hayward getting ready to watch on TV when the quake hit.
Stupid worthless Giants

Someone on AN thinks we need to replace Semien with Joe Mauer, and danmerqury seems like he’s about to have an emotional breakdown trying to understand why. And there’s a full-blown MAGA idiot hanging around. So that’s the level of discourse over there these days.
His Joe Mauer even still playing?
According to Google he’s just cleared waivers.
Another dispatch from AN: Apparently “most of us fans” knew that 2014 was the last year the A’s were going to contend anyway, so trading Cespedes was totally fine and awesome and not bad.
That’s fucking nutso, right?.
Fuck that place.
Thanks, and go As.
Why on earth are you bothering to go there? That site has been dead for years.
Sometimes when no one’s around on FK I just want to bullshit about the A’s with people. I was banned three or four times back in the day–and not even for a legitimate reason, like MikeV not having a valid email address!–and I know it’s a joke, but what the hell. I’ll probably get banned again soon, because I’m gonna have to start shitting on the MAGA idiot.
2014 and that offseason is why I quit baseball
I didn’t quit, but man my ability to care has been heavily tarnished.
I haven’t gone to a game since
Hi!!!
Thanks, and go As.
hello
Nice to see you.
You should consider going back for a game. The Coliseum is marginally nicer now.
Also being at a ballpark is sublime, and no number of plutocrats or trolls can take that away from me,
You have to suspend a certain amount of morals to enjoy a game
I agree with this. I was at my first game in a long time a few weeks ago and it really is the tits. Think I may dare a trip to the OC. I really want to get up and see all the new stuff at the Coli but I dont know how I can make a trip like that work now that the kids are starting school again.
Neither have I. But that’s as much life as it is my loss of steam.
The food trucks tonight will be in the A lot, not the championship plaza, due to Hall n Oates. I’m told they’ve set up this way before but I’ve not witnessed it. Anyone know if this means trucks are before tickets are scanned? Trying to plan group logistics
Yes. If it’s the same as one on I went to in May (which had a Warriors playoff game later in the day), they set up in the corner of the lot in between the usual tailgate area and the ramp up to the BART bridge.
Thanks. Today’s truck lineup sounds delicious.
What’s everybody’s go to with the food trucks?
Best I’ve gotten are crab fries, but I’ve only had 5ish dishes.
The Jambalaya from Southern Comfort Kitchen is respectable. Nurse Upgrade likes the vegetarian paneer tikka masala from 3-3-3. I also had some killer tacos from a place whose name I don’t remember.
Pinder/Fiers/Kelley in.
Barretto/Dull/Wendelken -> AAA.
How the FK does Hatcher keep his job?
Thanks, and go As.
Veteran presence.
Gotta have that one bad reliever who won’t throw his glove when asked to pitch in a blowout.
God help me, I’m arguing with BWH again. He thinks the A’s should go all-out to pursue…Shin-Soo Choo. Because Choo hits lefties better than Bryce Harper this year.
