on the pregame, ROxy was talking to larry stone and mentioned that gray and green were in AAA because there are not spots on the major league roster that are not held by “Major League players”
I feel like I should dislike Keebs just as much. He has run into about a dozen outs this year and has had his share of defensive miscues. But I dont. I think it is the elven nature, but Id be fine with him getting 1-2 starts a week to rest a good middle infielder.
All I know is there are 3 guys in Sacto who at one time or another were “the answer”, they all seem at least better than SA, and none of them are sniffing a drive down I-80.
Im all for positive chemistry but PLEEEEEASEEEE FIX THIS BILLY!
Yeah, the first one was a lousy pitch that anybody could have drilled. The second one was a hot hitter making solid contact with everything he swings at.
Have to agree w/ Hatte, Doo’s breaking stuff is looking really good.
Admittedly, I was bit scared to start, but having an effective Doolittle is such a big part of the pen’.
The only player on this team who should ever sacrifice is Suck Ass (because, of course, he’s going to make an out anyway), but Suck Ass should also never be allowed to hit, period.
BTW, Slusser’s notes column this morning said that she’s hearing the A’s are shopping Weeks but want a lot for him, and that a scout liked Green’s defense.
It seemed strange to use him as a pinch-hitter and then defensive replacement in the 6th inning, if he wasn’t able to be in the starting lineup against the RHP. If this goes to the 11th or 12th I wonder if we might get Donaldson behind the plate.
I mean, the whole big ass fuckign conference on the mound, Balfour taking his sweet fucking time getting ready, and then throwing THAT GODDAMN PITCH DOWN THE FUCKING MIDDLE?
What a fucking pathetic pitch. Honestly.
And I have to say: mikev is one of my favorite people on here
-slusser.
Going through the schedule, the next 4 times the A’s need a 5th starter are:
July 6 at Kansas City
July 23 at Houston
July 28, home vs. LAA
August 13, home vs. Houston
They only play 35 games in the next 46 days, with 7 off-days plus 4 days for the All-Star Break. The 7-man bullpen should be sufficient for most of that. In the short-term, the catchers have been a little banged up so maybe Vogt is the guy. Longer-term, I might give Nakajima a look in that roster spot, and it seems pretty logical at some point here to DFA Suck Ass and let Green be the 25th man/5 or 6 position utility guy for the rest of the year.
I’m going to be at that game, and somehow I envision watching Chavez give up 8 runs in the bottom of the first in 110-degree weather with 180% humidity, following the three-hour tornado delay.
But if he somehow got through KC, you could probably throw him or Scribner against HOU with little issue. Hell, its at HOU-I’d have CY25 pitch; he’d thrown 8 innings of 2 hit ball, k12, and go 4-4 at the plate.
Just watch the 9th and 10th inning highlights of the Angels’ meltdown if you wanna feel better. That’s perhaps the worst, most crushing loss of any team in any game this year, delicious I tell you. Plus I like the Pirates.
Never suck on a Blow Pop with the microphone open.
I saw them get swept there in the early 2000s – but it was the final three games of the regular season as the A’s were about to go to the playoffs and they’d already clinched.
Is it common for a team in first at the end of June to have 2 semi-regular guys in the lineup hitting under. 200?
And we start off tonight’s game with stupidity.
wow, you you think the advance scouts would know that the A’s have been doing that all year.
HEY! they do!
Sadly, I see that Suck Ass is still on the roster.
I should have added that: 2 guys sub .200, and I still would want SA off the roster first!
on the pregame, ROxy was talking to larry stone and mentioned that gray and green were in AAA because there are not spots on the major league roster that are not held by “Major League players”
Blinks.
No rosales, yet, we get young and norris
and straily
Can someone pls buy Dan some kibble or something so he will stop feeding his gopher at work?!?
At least the walk came after the home run
Curt Young went out to say, this is Henry Blanco. He is 100 years old. throw him a strike.
Griffin begs to differ…
Ray says Ryan doesn’t want to give him self up after so many non strikes by straily.
I am pretty sure Ray really doesn’t know that Brendan Ryan is giving himself up everytime he goes to the plate.
so, jesse chavez is the winner today?
seriously, if jesse chavez is coming in in the second, gray is the answer
It’s almost sad that we keep playing so well. It’s result in the Suck Asses sticking around.
Every time Keebs hits something I assume he will keep running until someone tags him…
Seems like a quick hook for Melvin. Of course, Straily was pretty awful tonight.
Of all the “Saturday Night”s I can think of, this one reeks of the Bay City Rollers.
are you going to dance with your baby to the rock and roll?
Well now it’s more like a Livingston Saturday Night. 15 may get me 20 but that’s all right, especially if it’s that RF ball girl.
Best. Chavez. Ever.
CY25 and Keebs setting the table. Just the way we planned it.
The RF-line ball girl is ridiculously hot. Here’s to more foul balls to RF!
So I went to the google to check JCS’s record. How sad is it that the image it gave me was him with a Braves cap. That was 4 teams ago…
The spring training version of Keebs is back, for a night at least. It probably helps that he’s faced Harang and Farquhar.
I don;t get angry when he is up, as compared to rosales
Yeah – Keebs isn’t very good, but he at least doesn’t Suck Ass.
I feel like I should dislike Keebs just as much. He has run into about a dozen outs this year and has had his share of defensive miscues. But I dont. I think it is the elven nature, but Id be fine with him getting 1-2 starts a week to rest a good middle infielder.
they are working behind the scenes to fix this problem, right?
All I know is there are 3 guys in Sacto who at one time or another were “the answer”, they all seem at least better than SA, and none of them are sniffing a drive down I-80.
Im all for positive chemistry but PLEEEEEASEEEE FIX THIS BILLY!
I find myself agreeing with the Lookout Landing folks – that one fan chanting “Let’s Go Oakland” is getting seriously annoying.
Well done.
Blevins and Donaldson are painfully bad in their promo commercial.
Now it sounds like there are two guys with the LGO chant, which makes it twice as annoying.
So, uh, maybe Melvin should’ve gone with Cook after all.
Or not.
I hate Ibanez. If I was pitching Id put one in his side every time and be fine with the one base.
why is he gotta be like that?
Professional. Hitter.
The hate carries over to today.
You might direct some of that at Parker for throwing the belt-high fastball.
Too many flyballs being given up today. I can haz moar strickouts and grounders, plz?
5aces…pitching coach. If Curt gives my advice to Parker we win and I walk out if Monster’s University to see a W on my phone…
Indeed.
Crap. I blame myself.
Boy, this just gets uglier and uglier.
sigh. This team and the Mariners.
Crap. It’s all crap.
/facepalm.jpg
Oof.
Oh look…ID4 is on A&E. The aliens just got to earth too…
Well this one has been an episode of Pitching Fail right from the outset.
When Jesse Chavez has been your best reliever of late, it’s probably time to look for help.
Even though the A’s had the 3-run lead and it was the bullpen that barfed it up, it just seemed like Straily set a dreadful tone for this game.
He did. The A’s should’ve still won, though.
I left the radio at 5-5. turned off at bat at 7-5. Figured, the A’s have not lost if I don’t know about it.
They posted this somewhere around the 5th inning.
fosse took over the csn account?
Three years is way too long since my last ge.
And my last game, too.
FK it. I don’t feel like putting up another thread, so here is today’s lineup.
Currently 2 for 2 on brew afternoon radio games; going for a Dogfish Head 60 Minute clone today.
Man, Reddick nailed that one, tough breaks…
Mutha…
That was just stupid. That pitch was about shin-high, and he just golfed it out. FK.
Yeah, the first one was a lousy pitch that anybody could have drilled. The second one was a hot hitter making solid contact with everything he swings at.
Vince just referred to Parker’s curve as a real primary secondary weapon.
Facepalm.
Can we hit one where no one is positioned please?
As a corollary, can they hit one where someone is positioned, please?
There we go, MOJO-TOWN!
A’s crooked number mojo, can we have nice things please?
I CAN HAZ SLAM PLZ?
Please baseball gawds, A’s in play/ runz?
I’ll take it!
Farquhar. That guy looks familiar.
Finally sometime retires Mr Lawndart.
SDI, Let’s do this boys!
These long days are throwing off my beer consumption, it’s light out far too long these days.
Star Wars?
Thass’ right!
Dammit Danny, quit it with those ground balls of spite.
As requested.
Woo, that one felt really good after Cespy’s K!
As usual, Melvin goes a couple of batters too long.
And Saunders bailed him out with the GIDP.
Woo double play let’s win this thing.
Time for a two out A’s hit and runz!
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
“What has happened to pitching in baseball?” Time for a Ray Fosse TED talk.
MOSSSOME
I’m here, it’s OK to WIN THIS GAME NOW :D
NOICE
Listening the Vince, I can feel my IQ dropping.
That’s okay, after listening to Fosse I’m sure it already flatlined.
You just proved it.
That was both a hell of play, an Mossome play, and a very stupid play all in one.
“We always have to go back to the play Derek Jeter made…” ARE YOU FKING KIDDING ME RAY
He must have a poster of ‘The Captain’ over his bed or something, yeesh…
Have to agree w/ Hatte, Doo’s breaking stuff is looking really good.
Admittedly, I was bit scared to start, but having an effective Doolittle is such a big part of the pen’.
Woo, love it Redd, let’s win this one A’s!
M O J O
That was a foolish play, should have given up after the first two terrible attempts…
Do this big guy.
After three innings of catching his hand might be bothering him enough that a failed sac bunt was better than the likely alternate outcome, a GIDP.
That was my guess too.
GP, but he had just walked Reddick, why not make him pitch?
That was a completely wasted plate appearance.
At least Melvin is using Freiman to PH for Keebs instead of Suck Ass.
Agreed, we’re not a small ball team.
Sac bunting is awesome.
Thanks, and go As.
The only player on this team who should ever sacrifice is Suck Ass (because, of course, he’s going to make an out anyway), but Suck Ass should also never be allowed to hit, period.
He’s playing second instead of short. Makes me wonder if he’s finally falling out of favor.
Please oh please.
At this point, I’d rather see anyone else.
Starts w/ Gr, ends w/ een.
BTW, Slusser’s notes column this morning said that she’s hearing the A’s are shopping Weeks but want a lot for him, and that a scout liked Green’s defense.
Very interesting [squints and steeples hands]
Is this scout, by chance, the blind one from that Clint Eastwood movie?
Heh, man that movie stuck, I had high hopes after Gran Torino.
stunk*
Not mentioned: The other 28 scouts who have seen him think he’s a stiff.
A scientist called Man made global warming a hoax
A lot? like something? that may be too much
Huh. That is weird.
Unfortunately he hits enough dingers that he gets ideas…
Did Jaso bunt because he can’t swing the bat? If so, why is he playing?
It seemed strange to use him as a pinch-hitter and then defensive replacement in the 6th inning, if he wasn’t able to be in the starting lineup against the RHP. If this goes to the 11th or 12th I wonder if we might get Donaldson behind the plate.
I won’t be too surprised if he does. The defense would be fun though. No Freiman at first now. Who’d play third.
Has to be something like CY25 to RF, Reddick to 1B, Moss to 3B.
Young to left. Cespedes to SS. Lowrie to third.
That was beautiful Sean.
LOL Giants (FK them).
Too busy LOLing at the Angels.
What happened?
Lost 3 of 4. To the Marlins. At home.
NIIIIICE
Woo Theth! Let’s do this A’s, MOJO!!!
Really hope we get to see Wilhelmson.
Oh come on….
shite.
Man, Saunders just kills us. Looking at his stats, nobody else, just us.
Fuck me…
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME
Thanks, and go As.
FKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFKFK
Don’t jump on home plate Kendrys.
Bah.
At least it wasn’t some infuriating dink shot off the foul pole.
Or someone who utterly sucks ass.
GARBAGE
I mean, the whole big ass fuckign conference on the mound, Balfour taking his sweet fucking time getting ready, and then throwing THAT GODDAMN PITCH DOWN THE FUCKING MIDDLE?
What a fucking pathetic pitch. Honestly.
Thanks, and go As.
Well, at least the Angels lost in totally spectacular fashion and the Cards have Wainwright going tonight.
Jeremy Fucking Bonderman, aaron Fucking Harang.
wow.
This seems familiar, but the whole Bonderman thing makes me want to throw a chair through a wall…
I know the obvious choice is Scribbles or someone to help the bullpen. But can we PLEASE HAVE A MI?!?
Free Sonny Gray!
I bet it’s a catcher.
I hope Rosales goes with him. He is out of options as I recall.
I sure hope so.
Likely has to do with a day off tomorrow, two games, day off, three games, day off scheduling. I mean, WTF is THAT?
Which is all the more reason to not put an extra useless arm in the bullpen.
Yup. Gotta be a catcher (most likely).
With Chavez on the roster, you could probably get away with throwing him against KC and not need to decide on a 5th starter until Houston.
And yes, I have no idea where that came from. And I’m scared. Someone please hold me.
If anyone mentions Raul Ibanez to me, I’m going to have a FKing MI.
Just watch the 9th and 10th inning highlights of the Angels’ meltdown if you wanna feel better. That’s perhaps the worst, most crushing loss of any team in any game this year, delicious I tell you. Plus I like the Pirates.
Man, that was shitty first game at Safeco experience.
Mine involved seeing the A’s clinch the AL West in ’06. Good times.
KEILTY!
As Chavezed!
You go out in public?
went
What my attorney said.
I saw them get swept there in the early 2000s – but it was the final three games of the regular season as the A’s were about to go to the playoffs and they’d already clinched.
I’ve learned to mostly stop watching A’s/M’s games because they’re likely to just make me mad. This policy served me well over the weekend.
Not I, although we were already headed out of the stadium to make the drive home when the GW hit occurred.
