As you all know, plans are shaping up for a fantastic Sept. 1 tailgate party. Dozens and dozens of us will drink and dine and cavort on the asphalt for many hours before cheering on our A’s against the Red Sox (aka undiluted seed o’ Satan). Game starts at 6:05; party starts much much earlier. Here’s wac’s facebook event page, for those of you who do the Book.
We’ll worry about the tailgate food and such later…right now, I’m offering you the chance to have me take care of your ticket arrangements! Of course, many folks can and will get their own tix, which is fine. But if you’d like to sit in the Value Deck, with up to three generations of Upgrades, and other cool peeps, here’s what you have to do:
- Comment in this thread, any time between now and the end of Wednesday, August 22, and say “Yes, FSU, please arrange for ___ # of tickets to paradise!†Or words to that effect.
- Commit to repaying me the $15 per “dynamically priced†ticket it’ll cost…I will follow up later about how. It’ll probably be by PayPal and/or cash on game day, but don’t sweat that part yet.
- Stand on one foot in front of your bathroom mirror and sing The Internationale in your best deep Stalin voice. Extra points for fake Brezhnev eyebrows. This should result in a visit from the mirror-monitoring defenders of the state, and other wacky hijinx.
- Promise to hate on the Red Sox early and often.
That’s it! So simple even a paleoconservative could do it!

I’m only about 25% sure we’ll be able to go. I had an incisional hernia repaired Monday (hernia apparently got started months ago, when I had bronchitis right after the Big Surgery and spent a couple of weeks coughing the rest of my guts out), and I’m still in a lot of pain that I can’t imagine abating in a week. On the plus side, though, I actually feel less depressed and more ready to enjoy a group thing, so I’m hoping I can pop a lot of pills and join the fun (if I can survive Mr. Poppy driving to the stadium).
