With Reddick out after the dental work and Weaks getting a “scheduled day off”, the 13-man pitching staff means NewBob did not have a heck of a lot of options when he filled out his lineup card. We have the spectacle of Brandon Moss and Cliff Pennington both being in the lineup against a left-handed starter. On the bright side, that starter is Will Smith, so I’m not calling the second perfect game of the day.
Coco CF, Gomes RF, Cespedes LF, Carter DH, Norris C, and then ohgod your A’s infield: Donaldson 3B, Moss 1B, Rosales 2B, Pennington SS. It’s on the creaky shoulder of Brandon McCarthy to salvage something out of this.

I was told while chatting with Ticket Services that emails went out today about it, and that I should have something in my mailbox, and both these things are lies. And it’s a good distance from Crown Center as well. But, no part of downtown Kansas City is really close to the stadium.
Last time I was there, I stayed right in that area and just took the surface streets over to the complex.
There’s a Drury Inn, Taco Bell, Denny’s, another hotel with a water park inside, and a Shell gas station. I think that’s it. Oh, a Holiday Inn Express, too.
I’ve never EVER in my entire life purchased anything at Crown Center. It is terrible. I went to Bodies Revealed at Union Station once. That’s it.
Yeah, Crown Center’s pretty meh compared to the Country Club Plaza area. Not a LOT to do there either, but at least it looks a bit nicer.

it’s too bad germany had a guy sent off (on a play where at most the goalie deserved a yellow, not straight red) because this could have been a fun game with an even matchup. both teams were a little cold. back luck on both parts too, with 3 post shakers, an own-goal (khedira), and messi being kind of miss-y all on his own. 3-0 going into the end (the 3rd was my favorite, a line-drive mid-distance scorcher by dimaria), germany woke up and scored with a really nice header. even teams, no own-goal, this could have been a suspenseful ending, but it just went to 3-1 and stayed there. thoughts on their team, i really like özil — guycrush territory. thoughts on my team, a little out of tune up top but not bad. holes, holes, holes in the back. it’s like at any 5 to 10 moments in the game, the back line looks up and they’re all standing in the wrong spot. nothing new. still, a W’s a W, and i’d gladly trade this game for any of the last few actual-competition meetings between these teams.
I think it was a red by law, but it is always harsh to give both the pen and red in that situation.
i thought it was only yellow by law for the last line of defense. or is it yellow if there’s still a goalie behind, red if truly the last defender?
It’s usually red when the last defender fouls someone heading straight for goal with the ball, whether the goalie is behind or not (I think). When it’s the goalie and there’s no one behind, the ref doesn’t have much of a choice.
i know i’ve seen last-man fouls of a guy running toward goal and the punishment is only a yellow. not inside the box, but it would still be a free kick situation. i’m starting to suspect there is a different standard of dirty play in argentina. hmmm…

It was okay. Lots of good action. It ended weird and I spent most of the time trying to remember what Treadstone and Blackbriar were. But the arm porn and action outweighed my confusion.
There was also a scene that reminded me of the Avengers/Hawkeye. It made me laugh. A few of the other scenes made me laugh, too. I don’t think they were supposed to.
