I’m out here in Augusta, Georgia visiting friends of my girlfriend’s–thrown totally out of my normal Internet-clicking routine. I have missed seven Joe Posnanski blog posts, five Ray Ratto columns, and several FK DLDs. However, I did read one RR blog post and an MK-produced transcript of KTRB, so I’ve got that going for me.
Anyway, my latest Internet romp started in a place of little interest to any of you here (Marin high school sports coverage) where I saw a good-bye column by the latest young prep sports guy at the Marin IJ (Bay Area News Group’s Marin outlet). Anyway, I noticed in the comments section that the IJ’s other sports writer, Dave Albee, also recently left the IJ.
So I googled Dave Albee, and I found a link to the Peninsula Press Club blog saying that he’s been laid off. Look to the side of the page on that link, and there’s also a list of SF Chronicle layoffs and buyouts, the latter including Gwen Knapp, football writer Nancy Gay, and sports editor Glen Schwarz.
I’ve been an NRAF for some months now, so maybe all this is old news. But I figured I’d throw it out there.
Riders of the 30 and 45 express their sympathies to Ms. Knapp. Here’s hoping the Chron honors any outstanding taxi reimbursements.
Ironic that none of the things you’re missing while in GA are newspapers.
All.
Major bugfixes with the database-driven unread comments changes I made on betakraut.
Please go over there, mark things read, post a comment, etc. I think it might really be working perfectly and, if so, would like to move it over here so we aren’t relying on cookies and the mark all read link will work.
I’m too lazy.
I did that, but I’m honestly not sure what I’m supposed to be looking for or what it should be doing. Sorry!
I appreciate it.
If you could just check back and see if my reply to your comment is unread I’d appreciate it. If it isn’t, let me know.
All looks like it’s working for me.
I’m hanging out with my little cousin, and he keeps asking me “Why do the A’s keep losing?”
I’ll tell him when he’s older.
Sucks to be you. Augusta is terrible. :(
Augusta’s alright; the company’s okay. Although I did get in a brief argument while I was here, in which someone seemed to imply that the media was at fault when Scotland Yard’s Bob Quick lost his job last month. I didn’t really follow the story at the time, and neither did the person I was arguing with, but her “blame the media” take on it inspired this DLD title. (‘What inspired you to title your latest DLD the way you did,’ my hordes of admirers are always asking me.)
#400!
Congrats, Jason!
You greedy cheater, you!
I am pretty sure Cust does this in lieu of batting practice:
