1. ActingDwarves with Down syndrome needed for Scorcese film
2. Of course Ron Paul bats righty:
3. We gotta bring back the old-ftyle “s”.

Old style S’s fuck

nm bait: W00t!
Ye olde canis patris got a nice mention in The Recorder (local legal fishwrap) article, but it’s behind a subscription wall.
Congrats.
So yesterday the question was asked about my father’s writing. Well I was reviewing some of it and I found this great short story (direct link to the PDF) that he wrote a number of years ago. I remember really liking in when I read it for the first time and upon re-reading it, I think it’s one of my favorite of his works. It takes place at the ball park, so totally relevant for this crowd.
Good stuff. If only it was “Not Enough Kraut” it would clearly be a KOTD.
I’ve been in St. Louis the past week. Much more fun than being in Oakland last year….
Except for that sea of cardinal red everywhere you go…
Well, it’s the color of the birds, which is nice enough, not the other, different shade of red modeled after the blood of children.
LOL
2. Did anyone send that to Paul Lukas at UniWatch? He’d flip about the FNOB (Full name on back)
Game Feven tonight! W00t! There’f nothing like a Game Feven!
Also, when I was reading Mason & Dixon I noticed that the use of the f for s is not a universal 1-for-1 substitution. S’s still were used, but I wasn’t motivated enough to learn the rules of f vs s usage
KTOTD
Maybe this restatement of the fake alien attack theory will sink in.
Maybe some of us aren’t stupid after all.
Or maybe we are.
That’s… kind of FKed up.
FK THE WHAT?
That is unspeakably, bizarrely messed up.
“allowed to pocket their employees’ state income tax” is the same thing as “reduced employers’ payroll tax” which maybe is not what should be done, but it’s not some new nefarious thing.
It’s true that in the end it’s the same as government spending, but the targeting is particularly asinine (hence, the stupid comment)
Yeah, that was my reaction too. Tax breaks to lure or retain companies are commonplace, though depending on the specific deal points may be both pound-foolish and tone-deaf.
In a narrow scope, it’s not a horrible thing. But then it’s incentivizing companies over the people which is kind of a problem in this country.
A new twist on an old theme. IOKIYAR.
http://www.ranker.com/list/the-7-greatest-_true_-keanu-reeves-stories-ever-told/joanne
If this is half-true, then keanu is the awesome.
Huh. I like him significantly more now.
He’s not that great an actor, but he’s a pretty damn good person. I’d take that trade any day.
He does sound like a nice guy…if I had (more) god-like powers, I’d command that a Nicest Guy in Hollywood Throwdown reality show occur, so we can find out if Keanu or Henry Winkler is nicer.
Nice ≠ insightful, though…taking a 90% pay cut to further the artistic quality of The Replacements would be like me putting my piece of shit Daewoo Lanos on solid gold 24″ rims.
I’ve seen people do that to their ugly ass POS cars.
#5 reminded me that James Franco is enrolled in like 5 schools at once.
AND occasionally appears as a serial killer/artist on “General Hospital,” speaking of “not necessarily insightful”…
Angels have hired Jerry Dipoto as GM presumably so that he can get right to working on trading Dan Haren for Joe Saunders again.
I am torn between, I want one! and I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords/
Can you hear me now?
FK YOU TALK TO THE HAND.
Thanks, and go As.
I’ll help with step one if you’ll sign the releases.
“Siri, cut off my hand.”
I’d’ve gone with this:
I’d’ve gone with this
Not this?
What about those suspicious Prius drivers?
I’ll bet $16 that the GOP presidential nominee still makes at least one muffin joke.
If Chris Christie had gotten in there could’ve been crate loads of muffin top jokes.
OccOak links:
Unions won’t join in Wednesday General Strike. Drat.
Interesting account from a passive liberal who got out in the Oakland streets once the livestream went down.
Resolution: I must continue to use The Twitter for stuff. Though one’s filter to edit out obvious wrong and stupid info must be on hair-trigger sensitivity. For instance, last night 100’s of clueless people kept retweeting OAKLAND POLICE CHIEF RESIGNS and linking the three-week old news about Chief Batts leaving. Clueless people like:
Best overall summary of the political place Jean Quan is in I’ve read to date comes from Robert Gammon; this before her written statement and “I will speak/I won’t speak/I will speak/No you won’t speak” dance with the Occupiers last night.
If someone had told me that Debra Saunders would have a race-baiting item about Quan, I’d be a bit intrigued about the particular hobbyhorses Debra would ride, but not at all surprised.
If you’d told me that Debra would have a black race-baiting item about Quan, though …
The video of Jean driving her Prius and nodding along with three young rappers was the source of some hearty laughter during the election.
Saunders of course completely misses not one but two interesting stories here. One, that a huge part of the law-and-order crowd in Oakland is also African-American, including most of the big churches. And two, that in the Bay Area historically liberal city leaders have overseen some of the worst reactions to dissent…think Jerry and the Port protests, or Dick Hongisto and later Tom Bates stealing free newspapers.
Here’s a good one.
When you’ve got Egyptian activists feeling sorry for you…
From the link:
ALL CAPS MOTHER FKERS
Good for them posting that.
For those that are interested, sslinger and I are planning on meeting at T-Rex in Berkeley to watch the game tonight. Everyone is welcome!
Michael Moore has arrived in Oakland. They’re not making him wait in line to speak like Jean Quan.
He didn’t order any attacks on them. Seems like a reasonable filtering criterion to me.
His effect on localized gravity could be construed as an attack.
My (fairly unimportant) point, though, is to snark a bit at the “we’re all equal, there are no leaders, check your titles and self-importance at the door” ethic.
I hate him so I support this snark even if it wasn’t the real driver of it.
I love you, nm.
How many draft picks did Oakland trade for him?
Alternate reading: You’re saying the reason they’re making him wait in line is not so he has to do a Jean Quan impression?
Simmons today. “Carson Palmer is rusty, all right. He’s Rusty Hilger.” Ouch.
Yeah. If Simmons is right this might be an epically bad trade.
In other words, you should be feeling pretty confident.
Well… his first argument is point to what he did last week, not accounting for the fact that he knew all of about 15 plays with the team and had next to no preparation that he was going in when he was sent in. The rest of the arguments have some level of validation, but if you’re leading with that as your first argument, it goes down hill from there.
Billb Simmons is a dirty, dirty whore. Fuck him.
As much as I love a dirty, dirty whore. I’d rather not fuck him. But thanks for the offer!
He and Shaughnessy should get together and breed the Antichrist.
Tthrow some Peter Gammons jizz in there, too!
(I hope I made at least one of you gag right there)
I hope this Friday title game doesn’t stink.
Ten run 1st for the Cards and they just keep adding on and on and on while shutting out the Rangers.
Nah, not for me. Though I surely don’t want Texas to win, I’d get the most personal enjoyment out of a Game Seven nailbiter, victor notwithstanding.
I probably do want Texas to win. (1) Home team loses!; (2) Championship count; (3) Maybe they spend a ton of money extending their players far into their old/shitty years.
World Series victory lucre would be bad
I’m not saying there are no cons, just that those are pros.
I bet being runner-up-two-years-straight is lucrative enough that the much of that damage is already done.
Plus, if they give it all to Michael Young or something…
Or Pujols.
Iunno. Maybe. I suspect not, but I have no data to back that up with.
Sadly they almost have a free pass to the playoffs next year.
not if the astros move
Good point.
Except it wouldn’t happen til 2013 at soonest, I believe.
Yup. But Ed was going for funny.
Ah, I see now, it’s that bone dry martini sense of humor. Dude needs more hippie in him.
he’s full to the brim with gutter punk. sorry.
Oh dear. Looks like you got the concept right but flipped the teams.
Tendency of pitchers on short rest to suck aside, Carpenter is clearly the only choice TLR could make. His Game 5 start against Halliday in Philly was the best start of this postseason, I’d say.
He’f certainly fucking thuf far.
He ftopped fucking!
Teftament to La Ruffa’f geniuf.
Thif ftring of commentf haf me ROFL.
On the fofa?
Fammy Fofa?
I believe this game will be decided by whether Berkman or Napoli uses his burliness to better effect tonight.
It’s the Vedder-Bloom burl-off!
Matt Holliday has a nice game
On past form, Texas will score in the next inning.
And out goes the form!
Buck and McCarver advocate for putting on a hit-and-run with Yadier Molina on 1st.
its almost like they have to defend the idiotic pujols H&Rs from ealier this series.
did you guys see this, its the Gary Thorne Freese walk off call.
Makes me want to cut a buck
Listening to thorne now… Much improved.
where are you finding him?
A sketchy website.
A sketchy website.
first row sports, link two.
If I was an alien coming to Earth for the first time, What I would lean is that the intentional walk is the #1 strategy employed by base ball teams
If the Cards hold on to win this, who is the series MVP? Carpenter, Freese, … ?
Gotta be Freese, the big moments trump the body of work for series MVP awards. Also, his goofy, quasi-surfer aspect (dare I say Byrnesian?) will play nicely for the cameras.
It’s what WPA would say too.
They should give it to the Cardinal with the highest OBP, just to tweak TLR.
Sorry Bloom. I can’t hate TARE after hearing about his kid
Yeah, when I heard about it earlier this postseason my heart broke.
don’t tell me then.
I still wanna hate him.
(it was not really his fault that he was placed in a position to fail. It was mainly Keith Foulke’s fault, with about 30% of it being Billy’s ego.)
I’ll hate him with you while having plenty of sympathy for the kid’s situation.
Nolan Ryan wanted to make the Rangers staff over in his image. Now they’ve set the record for allowing the most walks in a WS. How appropriate.
Nolan does do a great beleaguered expression.
My friend said (earlier in the game) that he looked like an angry potato. Here, he’s more of a melancholy or disappointed potato.
Sad potatoe is sad.
winner.
He’s looking more and more like Dick Cheney. I guess hanging out with dubya does that to people.
Sad whammy.
Ryan Franklin…World series champion
Zach Galifinakis…world series champion
Heh heh heh.
Does it annoy anyone else that the Cardinals are getting lauded for trading Rasmus for a bunch of spare bullpen parts and a BOR starter who is going to be a FA?
adulation for crappy trades is SOP
Carson Palmer! Yeah!
But I hate to see them pay off. It makes me sad when negative reinforcement happens all the time.
Their bullpen was pretty decimated at the time. They needed warm bodies.
Maybe it wasn’t so bad of a trade for this year, seeing as how they won and all.
Plus, Rasmus didn’t set the woods on fire in Toronto. Maybe he never will.
They won because of the most epic collapse ever by the Braves. End of story.
Well… not even most epic of this season.
HAHAHAHAHAH BOSTON
Thanks, and go As.
Epic like this
Ugh. Selig using notes.
any one think bud selig would pronounce los angeles with a hard “g?”
this is a really clunky way to celebrate.
Yeah, call me a traditionalist and/or a lush, but I much prefer cramped locker rooms full of drunken abandon.
I was expecting the cramped locker room / drunken abandon, and was severely disappointed (haven’t watched post-WS coverage in a while; how long has it been like this?)
I don’t know, but I wanted to punch Don’s facebook friend in the nuts for pointing out that the A’s haven’t worn champagne goggles because they’ve won one postseason series in 21 years.
2006
that would be the one, yes.
didn’t they wear them twice that year, and once a year in the playoff years?
I dunno. He was an asshole. I wanted to hurt him.
I endorse this message.
tony toni tone
And the mysterious bettor cashes in a cool quarter million from his Sept 12 bet of $250 on the Cards to take the Series.
I was thinking about that.
Of the various rumors they float, the one I hope is true is “he’s a professional gambler who makes his living taking the long shots that aren’t as long as Vegas thinks.” That would be a helluva adrenaline-soaked rollercoaster approach to gambling.
15 weeks till pitchers and catchers report …
Guess it’s just us bitchers and kvetchers until then. (h/t andeux)
that’s it?
makes it seem like less time than it is.
Last day of wiffleball season is Sunday, and our opening day won’t be until the first dry Sunday in February. If I have a good day, my OPS will be over 1.000 for the season, which would be very cool.
So you’ll pull a Reyes?
FK no.
I’m a firm believer in the Ted Williams school of earning it.
Hell, I’m even gonna pitch tomorrow, even though I’m at risk of becoming the SPWC’s first ever 10 game loser.
Wash really screwed the pooch with in-game management, but watching his postgame interview makes me understand why he’s a good manager for the long-haul regular season.
Very respectful. I was listening to it on the radio. Very genuine Wash.
I like a couple of big line covers this week, Nawlins -13 to annihilate the hapless (and Bradfordless) Rams, and SF -8.5 to step on Cleveland’s jugulars.
Cleveland’s defense actually worries me somewhat.
Thanks, and go As.
Detroit seems like a mortal lock on the road at Denver. I don’t know why that spread’s so low.
Tebow!
Also, Detroit’s leaking oil. Though I too expect them to cover.
They are a different beast at home than on the road, no?
Because they have -1 healthy runningbacks ?
1-1. Rams not so hapless after all. Niners should have been ahead by a lot more, so I was bummin when Cleveburg cut it to 7 with 6+ minutes left. Luckily the noticably non-horrible Alex Smith marched ’em right down the field for the important cover FG.
another profitable week, fsu?
Break even; slightly worse less the vig. But 14-7 on picks for the year!
what is vig?
The vig, the rake, the take, the juice. “That 11:10 is stronger than death.”
Vigorish.
Read “Get Shorty”.
Sup?
For a moment I thought that was Eric Show after his run from the cops.
Its a brain cloud.
I got a girl in the castle and one in the pagoda/You know I got rhymes like Abe Vigoda.
