Game 78: California Golden Seals @ Broad Street Bullies 32

I’ll try anything that makes me think of hitting. Plus, Gilles Meloche!

California Golden Seals

Weeks 2B, Ellis 1B, Crisp CF, Matsui LF, Jackson RF, Sizemore 3B, Suzuki C, Rosales SS, Cahill P vs. Cole Hamels. Pennington gets the night off. NewBob says Balfour was unavailable last night and is unlikely for tonight due to some soreness in his side; he says he does want to get Bailey in tonight’s game.

A’s are trying the gold uni thing again…

I’ve been searching for an A’s-colored Seals jersey for about four years now. There’s a knockoff guy right now from Singapore on eBay who’s doing em. I might try it, but every time I bid, I get mysteriously bid up…

Interesting…I keep bidding up this poor guy on ebay for an A’s colored Seals jersey and I now have like 5 of them…

Seriously though good luck and be careful. Ive been disappointed by one too many knock offs over time.

Rosales charges into a tie for 7th place on the team HR list, only 4 HRs short of 2nd.

Wow. 2 walks with only 22 balls thrown, huh?

Also, Weeks hitting under .300. That happened fast.

7 groundouts and 5 strikeouts for Cahill through 5 IP, so you can’t complain about that. I’m not sure what Melvin’s mound visit with the 1-2 count to Hamels was about though.

      Suzuki’s hand.

I can complain about whatever I want. It’s in the rules.

Would that our A’s could field a Dave Schultz.

I was thinking that could be Chris Carter’s ultimate role.

Speaking of Carter, Mark Ellis has had a very nice game defensively at 1B tonight, with lots of opportunities with Cahill throwing the GBs. I’m pretty sure Carter wouldn’t have made all of those plays.

Slusser says that’s what nBob thinks too. “I asked about Carter today, and Melvin said he might get a start at DH at home against a left-hander.”

The Marlins don’t seem to be throwing a lefty in the upcoming series. And with Willingham supposedly coming back on the 3rd…

Carter at DH: Yes, please. And it has nothing to do with wanting to see Ellis at 1B, it has to do with remembering Carter’s glove from last year.

Although I’m certainly open to hoping that it’s gotten better… and I probably saw it more in the OF than at 1B, anyway.

I had thought U.S. soccer had grown enough that the USA-Mexico Gold Cup final would be shown on a widely available TV channel, but apparently not, which is really too bad.

Mexico keeps getting great close-in chances, though…

At least somewhat; he started a few games during this tournament and had 2 assists. Was also in the middle of half or more of the (too few) US offensive rushes yesterday.

Meanwhile, 33 of the first 37 minutes have been played directly in front of the USA goal, yet somehow we’re tied 2-2.

I’m officially sick of the gold jerseys, at least on the road. The golds work best as an occasional treat, not an everyday staple. Like coconut cream pie, mint juleps, or acid.

Yeah, that winning streak was DNR, they need to stop trying to implement heroic measures…

In Bay Area Vintage Base Ball news, the San Jose Dukes, 0 and everything on the year, were defeated today by the first place New Almaden Cinnabars, by a score of 12-8 in extra innings (league rules are 7 innings, this game went to the 8th). I (“Snowcone”) went 2-4 with a triple and a bunt single, 1 SB, 1 R, 2K, in my return to what has been a season mostly lost to injury and personal matters. The last time these two teams met, New Almaden won 34-6, so I’ll take today’s game as a positive! Plus it was awesome to be out there again.

Is there a schedule or something? It might be fun to take in a game if I’m ever down south.

      • obliquè Jun 26,2011 9:26 pm || Up

Yeah; the season’s most of the way through, but all info/schedules are available at http://www.bavbb.com. There’s another league as well in Northern Cal, I think it’s called Gold Country Vintage Base Ball. Let me know if you ever decide to come to a BAVBB game!
