Murphy mash!
You love the thunder!
That was a terrible challenge by Scioscia.
Was it even a challenge? They said something about alternate rules.
Dylan Bundy not going to stay a bit longer.
Here come those tears again.
Down on Katella Boulevard they’re taking it hard. (Dammit, put up another graphic.)
80 pitches through 4 is too high. Manaea would be running on empty past the 5th.
They are out-hitting us.
Well, not any more.
They’re out-sucking us by a huge margin.
I realize it’s the Red Sox but “tickets start at $40” for Fireworks Night doesn’t seem like the right way to welcome full capacity back to the Coliseum.
Yeah that’s a weird pitch. Coliseum regulars hear that as “much more expensive than usual!” Targeting the occasional fans (families) and the stupid (Bostonians).
In fairness, Red Sox are usually the third-largest StubHub markup after SFG and NYY, so I’d prefer the A’s capture some of that value (and that the stadium not be at 100% capacity, which feels kind of icky.
The “icky” factor will be interesting to measure in July and August; look at a comparable home series from 2019, see what the attendance was then and what it is this year. Personally, post-vaccine I have no issue whatsoever with going to a big-crowd event like a ball game or concert, realize risk is non-zero but then it always has been with communicable diseases. I’m sure there’s a percentage of the population that will be more hesitant.
Bob thought he was going to be able to take it easy with the bullpen for the rest of the evening but it’s not looking so good.
What the fuck
Dangerous incompetence
Lou will pitch for the 5th time in 7 games on the homestand, after they had a 8-1 lead going to the 7th.
After an early flurry I haven’t seen another Jackson Browne themed graphic. At least lawyer references fit in these parts.
Finally over .500 in games outside the 13-game winning streak.
Feels a little pyrrhic given Pinder is probably out for a while (and almost certainly tomorrow against the lefty), and the “good” relievers aren’t likely available the rest of the series even though it was 8-1 at one point.
At a certain point, an environment such as this becomes a sick joke and you’re neither helping your pitching prospects nor hitting prospects’ development.
Saw the score and assumed it was in Reno and was going to quibble. But yeah, thats just not real baseball if it stays like that.
(Either one of those teams should be moved to Fresno where the results are more normal and they now have Southwest!)
Put up an 11-run inning and lose by five. Slot machine baseball.
The new “Player Development Licenses” are for 10 years (the old “Player Development Contracts” were either 2 or 4 years). Think I read somewhere that there’s a window after the 2025 season where teams can swap minor league affiliates, but if the A’s were unhappy with Las Vegas at that point it would be up to them to find a trading partner. Otherwise it’s Las Vegas through 2030.
And, despite what we may see, they dont seem unhappy with Vegas at all.
At least 1 more year of Bob.
But I would prefer they get a deal done.
From Kawahara’s piece in the Chronicle:
Yes, a more accurate headline for today’s news would’ve been “Melvin nixes team-friendly extension; A’s exercise option.”
LOLGermany
19 of the 22 players on the pitch have won the World Cup and/or Champions League.
And the group also includes the holders (and Nations League champs). Three can come out but it’s not guaranteed.
you can visit the last 4 winning countries by foot without visiting other countries.
or, my best bid to turn the EU into just one team, open up some slots.
Frankie coming out hot
He could stand a crisp, no screwing around, 100 pitches in 8 innings performance, for a change.
I’ll take the 7 IP, 2 runs.
And only 1 BB. In line with what I asked for.
Scioscia run
Sweet by Oly to start and end the double play, but if Upton goes into second standing they get no outs and Frankie probably gives up a bunch.
Who doesn’t want to “enhance the grip of their tool,” Dallas.
Braden sounds kinda whiny about it.
Not really buying all these arguments for why pitchers should be able to keep doctoring the ball.
Yeah, if rosin doesn’t work then fine, give them a shammy
Or maybe..just maybe…you dont get to throw at 100% effort 100% of the time. Be like Koufax and tone it down a notch.
OK Frankie. Meltdown averted.
Elvis has been not terrible for about 3 weeks now.

Who is the 29th best qualified shortstop???
I have to remind myself that the * will have played the Rangers 9 times before we play the Rangers once. That eases the irritation a bit after their game today.
~20% of our remaining games are against the Rangers.
Send Luzardo to Vegas. If he can keep the ball in the yard there, maybe I’ll have confidence he can do so here.
They should send him a message with a ticket to Lansing.
I thought Ohtani’s ball would knock down Mt Davis.
That was badass, I don’t care what team he plays for.
Why do the Angels get two of the most exciting players in MLB? And how do they still suck?
#1 could be the subject of a long essay, but as to #2, the last consistently good pitcher they had was Jered Weaver before he lost the 10 mph.
My hottest take is mike trout doesn’t care if he is a winner or not.
He signed, what 3? 2? extensions with the angels. He didn’t need to. He had to know when he signed the last one, they had no plan. to win.
There is a shot I suppose this off season for them to spend a tin on one pitcher, but they need way more than that. Unless the A’s go full teardown, they still have the A’s and astros to contend with.
I can’t explain why ohtani signed there. seems like an unforced error.
They had very good and deep pitching through the early Scioscia years. It seemed to me the night Nick Adenhart was killed in the car crash, it was a huge turning point that the franchise has never recovered from.
Some teams go through long periods where they just can’t develop pitching, and look no further than the A’s during the Haas ownership. Fifteen years and who was the best pitcher they drafted and developed? Curt Young or Todd Burns? They had Canseco, McGwire, Steinbach, Weiss and more, but pitching, zilch. The Bash Brothers era of success could have lasted longer but they had to go out and buy every contributing pitcher on that team, and when they all got old at exactly the same time there was nothing in the minors to replace them.
I would have thought with that extra run they could just leave Luzardo in.
Great stuff, no command. I think Bob’s distrust is well placed.
Agreed, and all the more reason he needs to go down. He cant pitch back to back and we dont need a bullpen arm that pitches 1 inning every 2-3 days. Not when we are in the process of burning out every good arm.
Despite the hellscape that is Vegas pitching, there is a guy that’s been performing pretty well in their pen. Domingo Acevedo is a RHP former top Yankees prospect and has managed a 2.93 ERA with a 25/3 K/BB. The A’s got him a minor league deal so he’ll have to be added to the 40 man which I think still has an open spot after the Guduan DFA.
Nice.
Never in doubt. that is why i pay attention to every pitch.
Anyone going today?
I have to work. thinking about july 1. would have to move some things
Let me know if you decide to go on 7/1.
yes, I will
hello!
Nice surprise! Bolt got sent down, which means no Pinder to IL yet.
I have a problem with this messaging:
Looks like BP is still going on.
Teeing off on Irvin like they know what’s coming. He’s not even missing his spots. To the video room, fellows.
One thing that’s consistent about Irvin: he doesn’t waste any time, whether he’s getting outs or serving up Cole slaw.
Don’t need Olson doing that. Appreciate the hustle, but no.
As has been observed here before, Oly is not nearly as fast as he thinks he is. Still, two outs, no one on, not the worst risk to take.
This is just ridiculous. It’s only been 2 innings.
Wow, that is crazy.
Amazing catch by Iglesias, hard to imagine how that can be done without separating both shoulders and eating a mouthful of grass.
Still, I suppose this is the best lineup for Irvin to face
Apparently all the sticky stuff Angels pitchers can no longer use got put into Iglesias’s glove.
It is odd that Bundy was not as advertised, then in 2020 with the angels he got good and now he is back to being underachieving.
How great does it feel to have Ramon back?
Superman’s back.
How many HBPs is it now?
Seth brown needs a reset
If they trade for a bat, at least RF is easier to find one than SS.
Could Canha handle RF? Can La Potencia still at least walk in the OF?
La Competencia may be lacking at this point.
A boy can dream.
Pinder/Laureano/Canha/kemp/piscotty seems like not the biggest need at this point
I am OK with a bunt
Scioscia with the top notch pen management.
can’t let [checks notes] Elis Andrus beat you
Murder by singles!
Olson’s avg is up to .294.
I had no idea i could get a Police song stuck in my head in 2021
.297
.300
Pinder!! He lives!!!
We’re doing bases loaded no outs squeeze bunts now?
Guess not!
Kemp for All Star
lol
I hope Scioscia has a flask in his back pocket to spike his Gatorade.
God that was a dumb throw by Fletcher.
Mercy call
Nice inning, fellows!
never doubted romo
Watching the actual bad teams, our “bad” relievers are not that bad.
I’d be willing to let Bedrosian handle a four-run lead to give Lou three full days off heading to New York.
I only see a three run lead seeing how fletcher is up 2nd this inning
Ramon seems displeased
Sweep Lou!
Nice homestand, fellows!
Just read the sequence if events in the 6th inning on gameday and came to say lol Scoscia.
was watching the deGrom start. too bad he came out after 3 perfect 8 K innings, but the Mets are doing the white power thing as their get a hit sign
Per their roster photos the Mets are more diverse than many teams, including four black players, one of whom is the actively woke Marcus Stroman. Also Mason Williams, who wrote Classical Gas.
Yeah, I am sure they are not a white power team, but that is a bad look. someone should have stopped it
Aroldis chapman has now pitched two days in a row
Buffalo is extra home games for these jerks.
I am terrible with the schedule now. I thought the yankees/a’s started tomorrow.
I also thought there was going to be UCLA/UCLA matchup in the first game.
in my day they used to give you these sorts of details on a piece of plastic you could lickstick to the fridge door just in case you needed them.
nowadays, there’s just no way to find out.
you are saying I am an old man?
but you don’t look a day over 50.
I’m 51!
Gary sanchez whiffed on a chapman 101 fastball when the batter guriel swung and missed. The ball went straight into CB bucknors face. but the umpires don’t call anything and assume it was a foul ball so send runners back (they were ate first and second)
First two big league homers for Eli White.
If some bro tries a “beer snake” near me at the Coliseum I might have to slap the cups out of his hand.

Useful FAQ from the city on HT
Mostly positive, indicates that negotiations on the financial terms are currently the subject of “extensive ongoing negotiations,” with a revised term sheet to be published by July 16.
It also lays out how much there still is to get approved, even with a positive vote on the term sheet.
It’s fine to celebrate Juneteenth but do we really need a third federal holiday between Memorial Day and July 4? Seems to me, move Juneteenth to the first Monday in August and you have a more efficient distribution of three-day weekends in the summer.
This is what I hear when I read this thread title.
Man they sure saw the pandemic coming early.
Not that I’m glad to see the Giants sweep a 4-game series but holy shit Diamondbacks, that’s quite an accomplishment.
Ketel Marte can play middle infield, right? That contract looks Fisher-affordable, if we only had some prospects.
I would definitely go Luzardo+ for him.
LuzAAArdo?
Fucking white sox
If anyone is in the market for a new fridge, allow me to most strongly anti-recommend the LG brand. It’s the British car of refrigerators. When shopping four years ago it had the best features and aesthetics by far of anything out there. Now it spends most of its time with maddeningly difficult-to-diagnose problems requiring successively more expensive repairs. I am in fact part of a class action against them which will someday reimburse some of my costs but none of my misery. God I hate this fridge so much.
On a different note, if anyone is looking for a beautiful used fridge let me know.
coincidentally, My LG dryer, though working seemingly properly, has a consistent, persistent impossible to diagnose error code.
My LG TV has had a weird issue where it just randomly turns off. At least they are consistent!
Anyone have an android phone they love? I’m clinging to my iphone 5s but it is dying. I’m scared of losing my home button and I also love how small the 5s is, so leaning towards the iphone SE. However I’m pissed about losing the headphone jack so open to android. Long story short, I hate making decisions.
I’m not the right person to ask (reflexively hate Apple, perfectly happy 3+ generations behind modern), too bad mikeV doesn’t come by any more. I like my Galaxy S9 and find the subsequent Galaxy versions to be too large for comfortable pocket storage.
I’m the same. I’d keep my 5s forever if it had more storage and could hold a charge.
Android phones are losing the headphone jacks too. The Pixel 3 didn’t have one and neither does the phone I traded it in for, the Galaxy S21. If you need to charge the phone and listen to something at the same time, a magnetic power bank works.
Thoughts on the S21? My S8 Active is starting to drain too fast and I think it might be time.
I’m hardly an expert on phones, just give me something affordable that works. The basic S21 was $499 with a 120-
month(whoops, 120-day) commitment to Google Fi (which is fine; I’ve had Google Fi for a few years) less the $150 trade-in on the Pixel 3. The main difference I notice so far is the battery life; I haven’t actually left audio streaming on all day until it drains but pro-rating it I think it will last at least 7-8 hours which is all I ever need (plus I have one of those power banks anyway). There are a couple of souped-up versions of the S21 with even better batteries if you want/need to pay up for that.Decided to go for the knee-shooters. s21 Ultra for $899 on Prime Day. My hope is getting the top version will get me 3-4 years and make it worth the price.
FWIW the SE does come with headphones that plug into the power socket, but it’s not the same.
Oh that’s good to know. I think I can get some sort of splitter, but it just annoys me no end that they got rid of the headphone jack. I just don’t think air pods are my jam.
I hate the apple ear buds and pods so just bought some Samsung “beans” as cordless buds and they’re total game changers for me. By far the most comfortable earpieces I’ve used and have really good sound quality.
I’ll observe that I really like bluetooth headphones. Removing that wire from my life has made an unexpectedly large difference for my use cases (excercise, travel, and sometimes silently watching TV — since my TV supports bluetooth)
Yes. Just removing the issue of snagging the cord on a doorknob or something when I’m pacing around during a phone call is wonderful.
you haven’t really pandemic’d till you figure out the correct order on for wired buds, glasses, mask.
I had a pixel 2 and now a Galaxy S10+. I picked the pixel because I like not having software bloatware. I picked the Galaxy because the pixel 3 didn’t have a fingerprint scanner (and not all biometric unlock services supported facial).
Turns out, the Samsung bloatware isn’t as annoying as I feared, but the hardware also isn’t as much better as I’d hoped, so I’d be happy with either when I next upgrade. I could never, however, go back to Apple because I like youtube without ads too much.
The bar has obviously been raised to qualify as crazy in American politics today, but damn, Tom Cotton, this is some bat-shit crazy stuff.
Really would enjoy Scotland scoring here.
NOT DEAD!
Dinna fash, lassie.
Not the most enthralling slate today.
It’s always funny the hype around England at these tournaments. I like Jack Grealish a lot, but he’s not Ronaldinho guys. And no matter how hard they try, Phil Foden still won’t be interesting.
England … putting the bollocks in hyperbolics since 1966
