The A’s are 7-0 after an off day.
The dbacks have a 5-game losing streak.
Chris Bassitt is 5-0 over his last 10 starts.
Don’t FK this up.
T: Bassitt vs. Jon Duplantier (RHP)
W day: Manaea vs. Matt Peacock (RHP)

Phil du Plantier appears to mix his speeds quite effectively for a 9.00 era guy.
4 K in 2 innings; I’m going with Baby Doc.
Deposed.
Shit, who jinxed this game?
This definitely has the feel of a letdown game.
Reddick and Vogt make me nostalgic…for a GIDP.
Chapman has changed his walkup some to Doin Time. This may not be a good omen.
This pattern of bringing up guys from the minors and giving them no shot at all is really irking. Brown/Piscotty are clearly not performing at a level that means you absolutely can’t give Bolt/Barrera a few starts instead.
nobody wants to be in first place anyway.
bassitt is awfully jolly today
My friend Rico here at the park with me thinks Jed Lowrie is the spitting image of Union General Joshua Chamberlain. And he’s right!

If you’re 20-41 at least make it a little less miserable by getting to 85% and being able to dump the masks and related inconveniences.
This is so anti Oakland I dont know how to react.
what is on kemps uniform?
whoever is directing the A’s games needs to stop showing the entire play and start just showing the disputed part. drives me batty
Not Matt Olson’s finest hour.
It’s nice for us that Reddick and Vogt are in their lineup but if the A’s sucked this bad I wouldn’t be very happy about giving plate appearances to journeymen like that.
It’s tough, all of us have rooted for plenty a no-hope rosters, sure you want to see investment in the future, but a lineup of nine prospects is also kind of hard to get excited about on a day to day basis.
I do understand sometimes having to fill out the bullpen with the Buchters of baseball.
Reddick’s hair is unacceptable.
A bottom of the eighth “the lights have taken full effect.” I love it.
Man I thought that Chapman ball was way outta here.
Nobody looks real comfortable there tonight. I think the arrows on the graphic were pointing straight down.
It was one of those Coliseum nights that felt much colder than the thermometer reading. Could see the wind rippling across the tarps on Mt Davis.
Also:
Guduan DFA according to Twitter dot com.
Dear Diamondbacks: Please claim him.
he was on the IL, yeah?
Yes, had pitched a couple times on rehab assignment in Vegas.
Probably a good chance of clearing waivers given the circumstances.
In the context of the veterans/prospects debate above I’m serious about the Diamondbacks picking him up. If he clears waivers and goes back to AAA he’ll never make any progress, but a team that has 100 meaningless games left on the schedule has a great opportunity to turn him into one of those “late bloomers”. Sure, it’s a longshot, but the Astros churned through a lot of those guys 8 or 9 years ago when they were horrible and came out of it with a pretty good team.
Sweet Lou refuses to just have a quiet 9th.
with Ohtani going today, it looks like he faces the A’s next week?
? I see him listed for Friday, not today.
today isn’t friday?
Yes, I see that. I think I was cycling throw days on my phone before I scrolled down to the angels.
My mistake
Rangers just DFA’d Khris Davis. I really wish he hadn’t have gotten hurt in ’19. He was having such a world-beating start to the season and has been a shell of himself since. He sure was fun to watch when he was mashing, tho.
If ramon isn’t back, dfa bolt and add him. then replace brown with laureano
Elvis. Olson is very tall. You should not be throwing it over him.
Believe when see
LOL
My reaction as well.
Even in the most optimistic scenarios, you can bet that the team will be using its increased revenue to pay off stadium debt and “can’t afford” a higher payroll, while some separate real estate entity rakes in big money on the rest of the development.
Absolutely. New ballparks do increase gross revenue, sure, and maybe even increase net revenue some, but rankings of team payrolls correlate almost exactly to the sizes of their TV contracts and a new ballpark won’t change that. I suppose that might help over a 20+ year horizon, as it did post-Candlestick for the SFGs, but that’s clearly not what Kaval is suggesting.
Extended Like a Virgin during this mound meeting, just for Soaker.
Accidental transposition – it was meant to say “spend never, like before”.
narrator: he’s not lying. in that the A’s have never spent a coupla bucks taken out of a bitcoin ATM before.
There’s always money in the
banana standcamera shack.That’s a catch.
Wow.
How is that not a catch?
“The A’s catch a break”
I have no idea what the right call is here.
I mean, I’ll take it-we are certainly owed enough calls.
Don’t reach out with your pitching hand, dummy.
Impressed with people having the energy to boo Reddick at this Let’s Remember Some Guys point in his career.
I see Conor Jackson, Jemile Weeks, Cliff Pennington, and Adam Rosales in that meeting at the mound on Melvin’s first day.
I can’t believe Lowrie’s drive, and Canha’s earlier “triple” didn’t go out. Really feels like they’ve gone drastically the other way since the 2019 ball.
That ball Reddick hit just now.
108.7 EV with a 32 degree launch angle on that long Olson sac fly. xBA of .940 – wtf is going on out there today
Its windy ans cold fwiw. My hands are getting a little numb inside.
Wow. I love Oakland afternoon sky.
Wait, why is Trivino in there?
I’m thinking tomorrow’s a Luzardo day.
The Diamondbacks really give off classic very bad team vibes.
Every time Sweet Lou and DieBBman close I am more convinced that the other one should be the closer.
#NeverDieBBman.
I’m the sole member of the DieBBman fanclub and even I don’t really want him to be the closer.
Work demands made me miss today’s game entirely, not even as background chatter. But dang, those Dbacks sure don’t hit much do they?
They were so bad at hitting that they fired their hitting coach and assistant hitting coach after this game.
Just got my first tickets to game in SF in like five years or more. Will be rocking the green and gold when the A’s visit on 6/26.
I am a huge fan of Dreamy Matt Olson. Sweet lefty swing, moonshot power, spectacular glove, bedroom eyes. So I was excited to see a Chron headline about how he’s putting it back together after a subpar 2020. Then I realized it was a Scott Ostler column meant to validate what he already thinks, in this case, that analytics obstruct the way the game is supposed to be played.
There’s a much better article in the Athletic by Alex Coffey on how Olson and some of the other folks on the team have been benefitting from a hitting machine brought over by Tommy LaStella. It also goes in depth with commentary by the assistant hitting coach on the mechanical changes Olson made.
Not sure if this qualifies as too much analytics for Ostler’s narrative.
