Irvin and javier
manaea and mccullers
Montas and Urquidi
The longest winning streak of the season for the A’s is on the line.
So far there have been 3 A’s bat, and three A’s strike out.

I have hulu plus. It won’t let me choose “live” when I start the game and it won’t let me fast forward until the first ad break, but thet tag most of the pregame as ad and today even part of the game was an “ad”
I gave up
I had hulu plus for a while and it sucked.
In getting all worked up about how much I hate the Astros I’d kinda forgotten how much I hate their stupid ballpark.
So many things are wrong about it. The crawford boxes, the RF fans able to interfere with outfielders, the roof being in play. It’s a joke.
Roof open at 6 p.m. (not sure I’ve seen that before) the glare and shadows look brutal.
Angel Hernandez in the house, but at least we won’t get him behind the plate.
it might work out for us
This series I am rooting for one of our catchers to get a hit.
And speaking of (almost) hitless wonders, on Andrus’ first AB of the season, Ray said something about how he thought Elvis would have a great year. I was about to make fun of him, but first FK had just crashed, and then he promptly hit a double.
He is 0-for-24 since.
does that count?
Does Garcia getting a single pinch-hitting for Moreland count?
That one counts.
It’s not good ro be thrilled to have a baserunner, is it?
Yesterday around the top of the third, Fosse said something to the effect of Luzardo being buoyed by the fact that the A’s had gotten one hit off of Bauer the previous inning. It made me sad.
Apparently his agent twote, then deleted, a comment about how MLB wasn’t going to do anything about his spitballs.
Kemp goes up there determined to walk every time. And I can’t say I disagree with the approach.
Yesterday Fosse wouldn’t stop talking about how everybody can hit fastballs. Today, he is saying that pitchers these days throw too many breaking balls. What are they supposed to do, Ray??
Jump in front of a pitch and let it hit them.
A proven effective strategy.
Get off his damn lawn.
Irvin has been OK, but even a 2-run deficit seems pretty big the way Javier is pitching.
Andrus was due.
Wow, off-the-charts degree of difficulty on that Ramon catch.
Can’t really complain about that outing
Bleh
is it my imagination that the opposition has a better defensive positioning plan than the A’s.
Also, the pitching seems to be close to good but just a little off
Everything is just off. TBF between blowouts, a busy weekend, and a series against Los Doyers I havent watched as much as I normally would. But it seems like we have constantly been 1 out or 1 pitch from getting out of it, all the hits are going straight at folks. Add that to our typical early season funks and having to keep playing top teams just makes it look awful.
The A’s really caught the break they needed after losing rosenthal. Just need a few more games before they figure out who the closer is going to be.
Adopting a closer by indifference approach.
There’s almost a speculative fiction flavor to the closer discussions for this team that hasn’t come close to having a use for one yet. It all feels like “maybe there’ll be a brokered convention, and Lou will get the nomination!” or something.
It might happen!!
This could be the day.
The A’s bullpen identity is fluid.
(Hopefully not lighter fluid.)
The secret is to never get into save situations.
I’m not a fan of pink caps, nor of the flat brim style. But I’d love to see this style O logo get more use.
Agreed on all counts. I might actually look to see if they have a low profile version of this.
MLB: we’re doing breast cancer awareness weekend.
oakland: aaaaand vulvar.
I could see wearing this.
I like that and also the Oakland Larks ones Oaklandish is selling, but I sure wish the flat brim trend would end.
Haven’t on-field style hats always come like that? They bend quite nicely.
No, the current flat style hats aren’t like the ones we got in little league that you’d rubber band a baseball into until the curve was just right. To be fashionable today you’re supposed to keep them board-flat and stupid looking, as per photos in this article.
New Era describes the 59Fifty brim as “designed to be flat, but can curve as desired” while the low-profile version is “pre-curved visor for a traditional feel.”
There is now a 59Fifty Low profile version that has a better brim and doesnt sit on top of your head like if you have an afro.
Good grief does that site freak out uMatrix. Third-party content galore.
They’re giving away a version (probably velcro back, of course) of this at the May 8 game.
looks like Canha, Laureano, lowrie, olson, chapman, piscotty, brown (DH) andrus, garcia
Pregame Host: How tough is it pitching in Minute Maid Park?
Dontrelle: It’s so tough that even I hit two homers there.
he needs to get in th booth

Just signed up!
nice.
So excited to have a spot on Tuesday!!
If we can hold the Astros scoreless there’s a chance our lineup could push a run across. Not a great chance, but possible.
Jed!
He should hit third every night!
(He might hit third every night)
At least so far he seems like exactly the same player he was 3 years ago.
Put him in green and gold and he’s Rogers Hornsby.
I kind of like these two doofuses in the astronaut helmets.
I do too but this would seem the perfect time to leave your face shield down.
right?
I hope bregman was lobbying chapman to get vaccinated
Pitched around the AAAA guy to get to Elvis.
Bad luck the at ’em ball from Elvis got caught, he squared that up.
vince said 103 off the bat
And I wonder if Bob thought about PH Moreland or Tom for Garcia.
It’s only the 4th inning, but that was a pretty big spot.
Man, last time we had a lead we lost it too.
that was some bad luck. Fooled Correa on the 0-2 and dunks a oppo pop up allowing guriel to get to third
Of course Canha hits it to the deepest part of the park.
Am I wrong in thinking that we’ve seen an inordinate amount of HBPs this season?
That is our 8th HBP, leading the league. The median is 3.
And our pitchers have 7, which is second to the Cardinals.
TY
Impressive outing from Manaea.
Now we need some good innings from the bullpen. [covers eyes]
this is ridiculous
Oh man when Chapman sets and really throws hard it’s breathtaking.
Excellent vintage Petit inning.
Olson go boom now!
Ray said that Olson was due just before his AB.
Lucky Oly didnt hit the roof
Wow! You could tell the way Olson dropped his bat, it was gone.
I new it as I saw the pitch*
*I have my radio ahead of the teevee
Hee hee!
Maldonado’s reaction
That was an awesome jubilation sequence.
Sombrero for Yordan.
7 in a row now.
Sweet Lou!
Louuuuuuuu
Remember this team?
Seriously. I thought we’d have to wait to June to go on a tear.
And of course Diekman walks the LHH leadoff guy with a 5-run lead. JFC.
TJDBBE
Stop dieking around!
i like that one
Nice win
never in doubt
That was satisfying.
Nate Silver’s greatest skill may be his knack for expressing banal takes in the most irritating way possible. I assume there’s a class at UChicago where they teach this.
(there is actually an entire degree program: they call it a “juris doctor” degree…)
Yankified Rougned Odor face is freaking me out.
Game is on FS1, for others wondering.
With old friend AJ Piersczinski
Wonderful MLB.TV decides that means I cant watch the A’s and I cant watch the HOU feed since I only get the A’s. It amazes me just how much MLB goes out of their way to make sure people cant see their product.
Ah, I thought NBCS-CA was doing all the games except the Big Fox Saturday and ESPN Sunday night exclusives, but I guess not. FS1 games aren’t exclusive and there’s no reason NBCS-CA couldn’t produce their own telecast but they chose not to and it’s that choice that shuts you out. You may get hit by that a few times this year (next: May 15 @ Minnesota).
And to make it better I think I heard that Sirius is moving MLB coverage onto some tier that is more than what I have (I think). I dont listen on their often but it is a good alternative when I have to take younger Aces places.
Yes, in order to hear live baseball games ( which I do use it for) one now has to help pay Howard Stern’s salary (next time I listen to Howard will be the first). I did upgrade for 2021 but will likely just switch to more flexible unlimited data on the phone in the future.
So this FKer walked into a bar in Florida and said…Hey, look who’s on TV. And, gasp, the score!
And immediately it’s Seth Brown crushing one.
Correa just hit the longest, loudest single I have ever witnessed.
Montas looks so good at times, throwing nasty 97 MPH fastballs on the outside corner.
Chapman passes on a chance to drop a shoulder into Urquidy, Correa style.
Gurriel lines one right off of Frankie’s ample rear end.
Montas got Maldonado to swing at a pitch a foot off the plate and got burned by the shift. It feels like the shift fails more often against these guys because they are so good at putting balls in play.
Another one by Diaz.
So damn frustrating.
Nice escape act, Frankie Magic!
He’s looking good so far, and now hits!
It looked like Olson might have been able to escape that rundown, or even get an obstruction call.
Let’s not be running into outs please.
Look at that efficient major league offense!
Frankie has everything working today. Best stuff/command combo he’s shown in a good while.
Boom!
oh my, Ramon
Three of the A’s four homers in this series have been severely crushed.
That patient AB from Ramon and Lowrie pouncing on the first pitch. All of a sudden, it’s just clicking.
Man I am watching Sergio Romo get outs and I swear I don’t know how.
Bat of Renown!
This game is lot tenser than it was when I turned it on
Green and gold is a great double play
A winning streak, what the…
3.5 behind these jerks feels pretty good, all things considered.
Taking two in Houston feels like a huge accomplishment.
Second time through the rotation, 20 runs scored 19 allowed, 3-2 record against two excellent teams.
If you forget about those first 5, you might start to think we have a good team again.
Those were just extended spring training, right?
If you had told me 3-7 before opening day I would have been sick to my stomach. But the trend is going the right way.
Love Ramon
was just coming to post that
This man is a treasure.
And then later I’ll eat. Tagline.
Later?!?
Point taken. I keep hearing people talk about the “Covid 15”. I wish it were only that much.
Amen. I just wish I knew a BMI of 40 was what I was supposed to be shooting for to get my shot early…
Turned on the Angels game just in time to see Scioscia get tossed for whining about something or other and having to make a walk of shame down the leftfield line to get to the clubhouse in Dunedin.
nice, was it the iglasias phantom tag a nd throw?
I never found out.
I went back and watched that play.
It wasn’t it
Also the Angels booth is really bad. they were wrong on the law and facts and assured or an outcome that wasn’t happening, then never addressed that they were wrong. Just kinda ignored it.
I haven’t had a chance to watch the Masters this time around. After the scoring fest in November it’s good to see only one player better than 8 under late on Sunday; that’s more like Augusta National.
just watched a highlight of Odor getting a hit for the yankees. His personality may not be his beard, but I sure would not have picked him out of a lineup
