Christ, what a nosocomial 20

Wait, what? We have not been apprised of this detail before, have we?

Braden has battled nerve problems in that foot since treatment for a rash went wrong last season and a nerve was accidentally severed during a biopsy.

Then, of course, there’s this:

Asked if he’d been given antibiotics, Braden shrugged and said no. “It will be gone tomorrow,” he said, “the power of positive thinking.”

you better hope to God you don't show up in this little community, because you'll wish you had never come

I did a double-take at that too. I don’t remember them ever talking about a severed nerve before.

And now that’s all we need, a full-on staff infection.

I’m in the Severed Nerve, WTF?! camp, too.

It does seem very irresponsible of the doctors. One would hope the surgeons the A’s employed would be competent.

What’s worse is everyone in the organization who’s letting him still pitch.

Seriously. In what universe is this an acceptable sentence:

The doctor advised Braden not to pitch, without success.

        How about

The doctor advised Braden not to pitch, at which point A’s management decided to follow that advice, and not allow him to pitch.

          Or just

The A’s have decided to not play Braden.

      Medicine, Oakland A’s style:

This really is absurd, especially since IIRC his condition got bad because of an aggressive rash which bspread under the foot brace the A’s gave Braden so he could continue pitching through the initial injury.

And hasn’t he already been falling down because he can’t feel his foot when he plants it?

But only once or twice each game.

            Y’know, I bet a thumb guard would help that…

I had no idea who he was, but I’m enjoying discovering it.

Clarification regarding Braden’s purported indifference to antibiotics:

He says he does have a prescription if it gets worse.

This isn’t in the tweet, but I imagine that if he doesn’t want to take the pills, they could alleviate the pain by severing a nerve or three.
