Well, not anymore. The good news about PIscotty’s non IL, is that that is the positional depth the A’s actually have.
The mariners have been terrible. I am sure the A’s can change that.
I will say, I would love to see a teal/kelly match up. Dozens of fans would hit menu to color adjust their fancy tee vees
I have $5. No I don\'t.
I don’t understand Ray’s point just now. Why is he blaming the catcher for “bad framing” when the catcher got the umpire to call a ball a strike?
his point is you should turn the sound down and listen to kitten forever instead
I wonder if tanner anderson thinks “I just made $170” after every half inning
alright, 2016 A’s defense
Laureano has a lot of room to improve on defense. he isn’t bad, per se, but he can be better
The idea is that you’re not “supposed to” overdo it, because it makes the umpires look bad, and they will hold that against you and start not giving you the calls. Or something like that. But, as you note, if it works, why not?
It’s actually something I’ve noticed in a few other games recently. My memory is that when pitch framing started getting attention a thing a few years ago, it was more subtle, and supposedly only a few guys could really do it well. Now it seems like almost every catcher just moves the ball a foot, and they often get the calls.
I would like to think umps are immune from such obvious stuff, but Ray’s counter-point just now, that they won’t call clear strikes when a catcher has to reach across, is actaully pretty compelling evidence.
Phegley just caught a ball on the outside edge that was probably a strike, but he obviously yanked it in further and didn’t get the call.
has pinder lost faith? he didn’t draw a cross in the dirt like he did all last year
COBRA!
the mariners players all seem like names for an unlicensed baseball video game
In MLP The Show Folix Hermandez is still lights out.
Ugh, he’s trying to walk you.
Catch the fking ball.
It might take two Semiens to make up for that E-6.
no ray, there was never any way that is a catch
oh sit down bob
christ
Why are the M’s are kryptonite?
It seems like Bassitt has stopped throwing his slider in his last 3 starts including this one. I don’t really recall him throwing an off speed pitch other than his curve today. This seems odd to me and it could explain why he’s been having issues putting away guys after two strikes.
That’s definitely the only time I’ve heard Ray describe a ballpark food item as disgusting.
Goen with the nice jinx.”looking for the quick 1 2 3 inning”.
At least the “opener” is a disaster for Seattle too.
This is better than yesterday says Capt Obvious.
One of these times when we top .500 we’re gonna stay there. Could be this time!
Are you trying to make FSU day the anti Soaker day?
I would be honored have June 15 commemorated as FSU Day.
But alas.
FSU Day was June 16, turns out!
FSU, does the Tour de Lemons feature shenanigans like a team changing the wrong tire after a puncture to get the result the sponsors want?
Such manipulations should surely be retyred.
I don’t hate these blue A’s hats.
I would much prefer a bolder Navy blue, which also can be an outstanding complement to the A’s gold.
Another day in the loo for Lou.
Yes I know Canha missing the fly ball was important in that inning, but also 18 pitches/7 strikes for Trivino. He built up a lot of goodwill last year but unfortunately he’s used it up pretty quickly the last six weeks or so and it’s past the point where Bob can say “we’re sticking with him through this tough stretch”.
I was glad to hear Bob say they might get him into some lower leverage innings for a bit, but i really think a little summer vacation in Vegas is in order.
This bullpen is confusing. Other than Lou no one has just been god awful, but no one seems to want to lock down a roll by being consistently good. It really makes me wonder how you start to manage all of the pitchers coming back with this “put them in the bullpen” plan.
The A’s used an opener for Mengden in AAA today. He then promptly had his worst performance in AAA this year.
the clavey is still cold as fuck. still haven’t found “the tubs.” glad i went camping anyway.
#copaamerica
qatar’s 2nd was the best built this weekend.
#2022intheshade
They’re not booing, theyre saying “Lew”.
Or maybe theyre booing him.
Safe!
Narrowly avoiding the 5-2-3-2 DP.
Also, there have been 5 runs, 1 earned, and 2 RBIs in this game so far.
this cashner guy is good!
when did we reaquire jed lowrie?
I’m trying not to snicker at the helmet given the situation, but he does look amusingly adorable with it.
Victory!
That’s a lot of hashtags.
There’s something about glass houses and stone throwing here.
Throws stone ankle high and an inch outside
Joe West punches the batter out.
Should note here that our Ynoa signed a minor league contract with the Royals and pitched for the AAA Omaha Storm Chasers for a couple months, but was released at the end of May.
Also, being a Nattering Nabob, I can’t help but think of Fiers last night and Brett tonight as showcase starts for the trade deadline…though who would be desperate enough to assume Brett’s risk in that situation I have no idea. Fiers definitely, though.
If the A’s collapse over the next month and there is real value coming back, then I guess you trade them. But I’d generally prefer to keep them around to eat innings even if the season is lost given the presumably weak demand for their services.
I’d be planning for a Montas, Luzardo, Manaea, Puk, Fiers rotation in April 2020.
Roxy B. in the Vince seat tonight
shoot, who will call ramon’s triple
BEAUtiful
Beau knows homers!
Mancini is a pretty good ballplayer; it has to be somewhat tormenting to waste some of your best years with the 2011-2013 Astros.
Adding to that, Orioles games remind me of those early September games when Cal is playing some lower division team like Sacramento State or UC Davis. There are two possibilities: either Cal plays as they should and the game is a blowout, 63-10 or something like that, or the Bears stink it up and the game is competitive well into the third quarter. I went to a couple of A’s-O’s games early last season and decided that was a lousy use of a trip to Oakland. I’ll try it again when the Orioles get better.
Last night was definitely the latter, tonight is at least looking more like the former.
Not sure if we will make it to 63 runs though.
not this inning
Put in the walk-ons, Bob.
Bob, listening, lets Aaron Brooks pitch.
Bassitt decided to give him a day off.
Ramon seems to be breaking out.
Straily’s triumphant return to Oakland!
He was heartbroken when the A’s DFA’d Rodney, because that made him the worst pitcher in the major leagues.
He’s had a nice career for a 24th round pick with a decent amount of career earnings. After this onslaught tonight, I’ve finally forgiven him for the Peralta homer.
I don’t hate him at all, but man, look at his game log with the Orioles this season. If anything ever called for euthanasia of somebody’s career, that would be it.
straily and ynoa reacted to their HRs like guys that didn’t think they knew where their next Major League paycheck was coming from
Dan Straily’s MLB career:
B: August 3, 2012, Oakland, CA
D: June 18, 2019, Oakland, CA
should have gone for three
That escalated quickly.
Oh right, Brocail is their pitching coach. HA ha!
Still needing a win tomorrow to do better than 3-3 at home vs. the Mariners and Orioles…
Yeah I might need to go get one of these.
Agreed, that’s the best looking giveaway hat in years.
W…….TF
FK Joe Biden. I don’t understand what he has going for him at this point, other than name recognition. Who is his base? Can’t we all just agree on Liz Warren and get on to the general election?
This is pretty much where I am.
Edited to add: I think his base is (1) older liberals and moderates who don’t pay very close attention to politics but just generally want a return to normalcy, and (2) financial-sector Democrats who are terrified of Warren/Sanders and see Biden as the most likely alternative at the moment.
I think it’s all name recognition at this point… which is fine because the first debates are still to come. I will be less happy if he maintains this lead through the end of 2019.
Of course if Uncle Joe becomes the nominee, I would still vote for him in a heartbeat in the general election.
That part goes without saying.
I also just want to point out: Joe Biden and James Eastland served in the Senate at the same time??? That’s nuts.
yes, but trevor noah said is one of the “behind the scenes” or whatever they are called, Biden plays into trump. Trump is best when he is insulting people, and biden fancies himself as a tough guy. the more of an old man pissing contest it becomes the more trump wins.
this.
agreed. next question
Also traditional unions who learn moderate Democrat.
I hold my breath every time Chapman makes one of those sprints over the bullpen mounds for a foul ball.
That’s a good way to follow up your teammate getting hit in the head.
FKing strikes: throw them
Who could have guessed that bringing in Ryan Buchter, with his 16 walks in 21 IP, with the bases loaded (again) would be a bad idea (again)?
Nice read and route by Laureano, he keeps improving.
In retrospect, probably should have just taken the double play, birds.
This catcher has to be disgusted with his teammates at this point.
Way too lazy to look it up, but the Orioles seem like they could threaten whatever the record is for “big innings” allowed. Call it 5 runs or more.
come on argentina. do something. var assisted or not.
i like the jersey and i want an excuse to get it.
yeah, team sucks.
i’ll just put VAR on the back.
no numbers. open bracket close bracket.
oh wow. i had given up on the women down 3-0. missed a comeback tie for the ages. 2 reviews on the same penalty and everything.
way to go VAR!!!
Heh
that’s the best
Build a new stadium in Tampa Bay and only play part of the season there?
Sounds like an extremely viable plan.
Yes, because building one stadium in one city is so easy to do, let’s build two!
And we’ll get
MexicoCanada to pay for it.I will hand it to MLB that this is at least a creative new way to get two cities to compete with each other in a build-a-park-to-lure/keep-a-team game.
doesn’t this belong in the other thread?
Oh, for sure man.
I’m sure all 20 – 30 of them will absolutely pay for two new stadiums.
They are only going to sell 81 game season ticket packages
Okay, then 5 of them will pay for two new stadiums.
I’m a sucker for a good VIetnam analogy.
82!
Don Zimmer (also a former Brooklyn Dodger) was still coaching at age 84, when he finally succumbed to injuries from his fight with Pedro.
Noted A’s appreciator Hank Schulman has the Chron coverage tonight for Slusser. I’m going to need some evidence for this story he tells to defend himself from the idea he never went to Coliseum unless the Giants were playing there.
