Now with 100% less Wahoo.
I like this idea of making 510 Day an annual thing, I hope it sticks. It’ll be on a Sunday next year.
Fri: Frankie Magic vs a guy who lasted two-thirds of an inning last time
Sat: One of three US sports Aaron Brooks’s to have wiki pages vs Ed’s least fave Bruin
Sun: Possibly the return Stache and Socks vs Jefry Sic Rodriguez
And the Dubs and Rockets slog it out. And the Sharks continue their quest to play 28. Go 510! And situationally 925 and 408. Maybe 209.
"Kraut will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no kraut."
Semien outscoring Curry in the early going.
Still true through two quartinnings.
OK now Marcus has some catching up to do.
I am impressed that the A’s will have Rickey at the ballpark rally Monday.
Laureano would have caught that Laureano HR.
LOLROCKETS
I am OK with them continuing to lose series forever.
Huh, Oliver Perez is still pitching
is something I’ve said every year for like 10 years
Lefty with a pulse.
Profar with the sick 12-6 curve shows me he isnt out of the woods yet. But Olson at 1st makes it much more manageable.
is today the fireworks?
coincidentally I am going to a cal baseball game tomorrow because they are honoring a friend of mine that died last year and was a bullpen catcher when he was there
Extra innings on fireworks night, as the sugar rushes become tantrums…and that’s just in the radio booth.
OK Chapman Pinder Olson, one of you can win this.
Door A
this soria i like
just winning a baseball game eating some pizza
Chapman says Pie Time!
510 pie
Wait are we not doing pie this year? Chapman just got Gatoraded. Did Piscotty get pied the other night?
No pie anymore. And no, I dont think there was gatorade the other night.
at some point last year someone commented that it was shaving cream. I think they stopped going to get the stuff from diamond level
Phegley now has the 4th best OPS on the team, behind Semien, Chapman, and of course Brett Anderson.
Kelly green on a Saturday now. Highly unorthodox.
Catcher little league home run.
Based on the last couple of games, Jose Ramirez seems like a pretty bad third baseman.
I’m calling it: he sucks
I don’t care what any of you say. Dallas Braden is cool.
I think Dallas’ brand of cool was briefly authentic like ten years ago and has been aging poorly in place since.
I mean I’m probably not the best judge because I think Guy Fieri is sorta cool. But things like sitting alone in the farthest reaches of the 300 level and playing ballboy on your days off are endearing to me.
I like him too.
He imparts non-obvious information about baseball sometimes, which is a good start.
The wackiness seems mostly genuine to me. He’s fun-loving and perhaps slightly manic, but also seems pretty thoughtful underneath it all.
Yes, it is better when he tones it down a bit. I think he is already starting to do that, in the last few games without Ray also in the booth. Or is that just wishful thinking?
Braden that is. Guy Fieri seems like a douche.
I actually feel like GF is more genuine than Dallas. Flavortown> Poundtown.
MiveV’s point below is where I come in on it. When he dials it back to a 5 Dallas is really good, and it makes the 9-10 moments better.
I do agree that Braden has useful insights into pitching, and that his wackiness is genuine. Where he crosses to annoying for me is when he tries too hard to be cool (e.g. “poundtown”), I just wonder what current or even potential audience wants that.
Playing ballboy is fine. Going out of your way to sign a 1 day contract and post it on social media is another.
I keep saying it. Braden is constantly trying to be at level 9. He needs to be at about a 4 or 5. It’s like he wants to be a caricature or something.
Thanks, and go As.
Yep, he seems like a genuinely good dude and all. Probably could be exceptional at his job. But it needs to be toned down. It’s too much too often.
For us, maybe. But for the casual fan who watches a couple games a month? I’ve long thought the A’s needed to lean into being outlandish and Dallas does that.
I’ve largely not watched because of the outlandishness. I may not be a causal fan, per se, but I barely watch anymore these days. I don’t know, probably not their target audience, but I can’t imagine who is doing that.
Here are the RSN ratings for the 29 US-based MLB teams for 2017 and 2018. The A’s 97-win season vaulted them over the White Sox into a tie for 27th with the Marlins. The A’s have an upcoming opt-out in their contract with Comcast, I believe after the 2022 season (or maybe 2023, anyway it’s right about the time Kaval has stated is the target date for Howard Terminal), and if they are going to cash in they need to drive up the ratings to make that asset attractive. Braden is the youngest and liveliest broadcaster they have tried so I give them credit for a fresh approach at least. (Source of table with more discussion of the numbers)
Lololololololol
I know the pen is tired, but sticking with Brooks here is asking for a disaster.
I preferred unhittable Treinen.
OK, we’ll take it.
A’s first win w/o a (real) HR.
Wow that’s striking.
In related news, were it not for two starts he had to exit early, Khris Davis could be 7 days into an IL stay already.
For 83 seconds I had some faint hope.
city is gonna score 4 goals in madrid somehow
A piece on Ken Korach, Mother’s Day and suicide from the Adelson News. I haven’t seen the book yet and although I knew Ken’s mother took her own life I didn’t know the details. As Ken has said, “our job as announcers is to tie it all together” and I guess that chapter in the book does that.
I heard on broadcast recently that Korach and Slusser are doing a book signing together at Moe’s later this month.
Wendelken being sent out for Mengden and Trivino and Treinen both having worked the last two games raises the Rodney Red Flag for this afternoon. At least Khris is back in the lineup.
Thank you dumb ass baserunning.
Buchter has definitely proven his worth in a three-batter-minimum world.
Goodnight, sweet prince.
Thanks, and go As.
Canha already celebrating.
I set my expectations low. Not low enough though.
yay?
ERA under 2 in ~120 innings at AA. Suspiciously low BABIPs and HR/FB, so I’m sure he’s gotten lucky, but he has struck out more than 8 per nine innings.
oof, that correction is gonna hurt in Vegas
But then the re-correction in Oakland is going to feel so good.
well, that was quick
why was morales traded for?
Davis is clearly not right. FKing ridiculous they’re forcing him out there.
Yes, that has been mismanaged pretty badly. He’s chipped in two singles and a walk since getting hurt. This would be Day 8 on the IL, there’s tomorrow’s game, then the off day on Day 10. Hell, the A’s could have kept Kendrys around for two more days.
Thanks for the reverse jinx guys.
The threat of extra Kendrys was compelling.
Olson is clearly not right. FKing ridiculous they rushed him back.
Hm…
…
Quick, someone say something bad about Profar.
I was going to say Rodney since we’re obviously stuck with him for another couple months but lens has already tried it with him.
And Estrada, and Hundley, and Grossman, but some players may be beyond help.
And he needs one more at-bat to shut me up.
I still think he sucks
still sucks
Was Canha even going to steal there, or was he just asleep?
I think the latter. Supposedly quite a few pickoffs are on guys with no intention of stealing, who just don’t expect a throw to come their way. I feel like I remember seeing the A’s pick off Pujols one time.
Whatever this is about, Servais is doing a remarkable job of icing his own reliever.
I’m enjoying Vince’s temper tantrum about it.
He really climbed on the ol’ soapbox there.
That’s twice Chapman gets screwed by umpire incompetence.
naturally
The better thing to do there is make a visit to the mound and wait until the plate umpire comes out. That’s when you tear him a new one right in the middle of the field.
But regardless of the blown call that was a stinker inning for Trivino.
I like the aggressive pinch hitting for catchers
OK but (a) they didn’t score and (b) Hundley is now in the #5 spot behind Khris for the duration of this game.
So Treinen is “unavailable” again uh oh
In lieu of flowers send bullpen parts please.
This is really starting to feel like the team dynamite year.
I concur. And the “these 2-3 pitchers arent available” is not helping. It’s almost like choosing to go with a strategy of no starters isn’t the best way to keep all the arms down there fresh.
Soria was on fumes. Rodney would have had a better chance to get Narvaez out. 5 homers not enough, good grief.
How did they only score 5 runs on 5 HR, 1 double, 4 singles, and 6 BB??
OK sorry but that was a fucking horrific throw from LF
Thanks, and go As.
Looks like I picked the wrong season to stop sniffing glue.
“Routinely loses games they led in extra innings” is a category of bad team with which I have not previously been acquainted.
Lily’s end of school project breaks my heart.
“>
that’s fantastic
Beautiful. I’m not crying, you’re crying.
ring central
Needs more rings.
I don’t think Roto Rooter’s money would have been accepted but a cleanup company like Servpro may have missed an opportunity.
$1M/year most likely doesn’t get the green guide signs on 880 changed. Last time I was down there I think I noticed some of them still refer to O.co. I have not been to San Francisco since the renaming over there but I bet Oracle’s deal included money to get the signs on the freeways and city streets over there changed pretty quickly.
American Standard. The shape works.
sloan
Nope. American Standard is not only more patriotic sounding, not only has it’s alliteration working for it (American Standard Stadium), but it also truncates to ASS.
CA Highway exit signs are super expensive. When Army Street became Cesar Chavez it cost SF almost a million dollars.
Warriors fans: cancel those plans to visit Turkey in the next couple weeks.
Lowrie’s inability to play anywhere near a full season for anyone but the A’s is a strange phenomenon.
I bet it’s the same thing that makes sourdough only work here.
But we seem to be the one’s who have issues all the time with our Starter.
I’m watching the Tigers #9 starter getting his brains beat out by the Astros tonight, and listening to the Detroit radio announcers they are bemoaning exactly this point as all their veteran starters are on the IL. Michael Fulmer had TJS, Matt Moore blew out his knee and is out for the season, Jordan Zimmermann has a “UCL sprain” (uh oh) and Tyson Ross has elbow problems as well. So it’s not just the A’s.
Climate change is making us brittle.
Probably is the sourdough itself. Curative properties.
A bit thick on the doe-eyed romanticism for the past, but still a cool article on ballparks and urbanism.

Who knew Buckminster Fuller designed a domed park for Brooklyn?
i did. but a city planning class i took in college that taught “the dodgers move west”
510 Weekend extended for Dame.
Baseball Reference doesn’t list any #0s in A’s history. (It has Don Baylor wearing #00 in 1988, but I think that’s wrong — he wore #12.)
I heard today that his Blazers uniform actually has an O (oh) on the back for Oakland, not a 0 (zero). Hard to tell on the A’s jersey.
For fun, a player should wear every single available number in a season. Just change their number for each game.
Billy will blow all the cash tomorrow morning on one of those “$5.99! Are you out of your mind?” breakfasts at his local Denny’s.
Not even. The official release says they traded Morales and cash, for cash or a ptbnl.
The Trevor Plouffe special
Mariners and Blue Jays combined:
Vs. A’s: 9-0
Vs. everybody else: 28-47
You knew, as soon as they put up that stat about Brett’s HR/9, kaboom.
