My biggest issue with the fatigues, and other mlb-mandated special uniforms, is that it is hard to tell the teams apart unless one of them is the Diamondbacks.
Yeah, I have no idea what that sign was there for but they showed it a couple times. “The banker said, ‘I ain’t got that, but I sure got some powerful pills! AHHHHH…”
I tried to get tickets for the July Phish shows up here at Harvey’s, which is walking distance from my house, but in spite of knowing the on-sale time I didn’t succeed. That’s the smallest venue they play. TBH I’ve outgrown any show in an amphitheatre, arena or stadium anyway so it didn’t break my heart. I hope the people who pay a gazillion dollars for tickets enjoy their experience.
Curry got stronger as the series went on, while Houston’s key players either ran out of gas (Harden, Ariza) or broke down completely (Paul). It’s exhausting trying to run with these guys over seven games.
They’re going to have to give all 69 people who stay until the end of this hideous exhibition of baseball a prize. A stack of a dozen coupons for free drinks in the Treehouse, or something like that. I feel like I deserve a few coupons just for watching this long.
With a 13-game run against Tampa Bay (4), at Kansas City (3), at Texas (2) and home vs. Kansas City (4), staggering to something like 3-10 would not bode well for the rest of the season.
Following up my own comment above, in these 9 games w/o Khris we scored only 15 runs, but also allowed only 26. It’s especially frustrating to waste what has been probably our best stretch of pitching all season.
OTOH, even with the offense struggling we should still be able to handle KC (20-36 while playing in the worst division).
The Rays aren’t much of an attraction but I wish a few more people thought this A’s team was worth watching, and would actually care if the team were sold and moved out of the area.
I thought it was an interesting idea when they had a lefthanded starter scheduled against the Angels, but when they do it against team with a better left-right-switch mix it reeks of the manager thinking he’s smarter than any previous manager in the history of baseball. Starters usually have a whole running and long-toss routine that starts 30 minutes or so before first pitch and this seems disruptive. Other than that I doubt it makes any difference.
If you’re going to do the “opener” thing, and he puts guys on base, bringing your “starter” into the jam seems suboptimal. Burn another reliever and ask your starter to pitch innings 3 through 8 or 9.
With the early season college football schedule announced today, there’s a pretty good East Bay doubleheader on September 1 (Saturday of Labor Day weekend): North Carolina at Cal at Memorial Stadium at 1 p.m., then Mariners at A’s at 6 p.m. with postgame fireworks.
Aside from it being 3 months away…If I’m there Saturday night I’d certainly stay for Sunday afternoon, so sure. While Labor Day weekend isn’t the nightmare that Fourth of July is, it’s still another good time to get away from Tahoe.
Shall the City adopt a policy not to encourage professional sports teams from other cities to move to San Francisco and to oppose any sports team ownership group attempting to avoid payment of an outstanding public debt?
Yairo Munoz started at SS and hit a walkoff, three-run homer last night for the Cards. I can’t shake the feeling that we are going to regret trading him.
My biggest issue with the fatigues, and other mlb-mandated special uniforms, is that it is hard to tell the teams apart unless one of them is the Diamondbacks.
Lowrie swung at ball four to protect Semien’s caught stealing.
Another caught stealing. I don’t understand how a team can be so bad at this.
We might not see .500 (SB %) again this season.
We should never steal nor bunt.
Getting people on base just kills our chances for a solo HR.
Pinch running Barreto wouldn’t have been the worst idea if they were going to go the bunt route.
That pickoff throw was insane!
Lowrie just missed the tag there.
I doubt Trevino has another scoreless frame in him so better win now.
Louuuuuuu
Where’s Wilmer Font?
Perhaps they’ll keep us entertained right up to the Game 7 tipoff.
Hatcher warming up so really better win now.
There is absolutely no way we’re surviving another Hatcher inning so, really, win now.
FK you Hatcher.
Really we got more from him than anyone could reasonably expect.
I hereby demand that the Rays bring in Wilmer Font.
Fluffhead?
I’m told it’s a Phish thing.
Yeah, I have no idea what that sign was there for but they showed it a couple times. “The banker said, ‘I ain’t got that, but I sure got some powerful pills! AHHHHH…”
It would have made more sense if they still had Jaso.
I tried to get tickets for the July Phish shows up here at Harvey’s, which is walking distance from my house, but in spite of knowing the on-sale time I didn’t succeed. It may actually be possible for the Warriors to win a title while only playing hard for half of each game.
Having your opponents put up a run of 0-27 three-pointers helps.
Curry: 7-15 3PT
Houston: 7-44 3PT.
Thanks, and go As.
Curry got stronger as the series went on, while Houston’s key players either ran out of gas (Harden, Ariza) or broke down completely (Paul). It’s exhausting trying to run with these guys over seven games.
Meanwhile, Don Nelson is living the high life.
odd… i woulda sworn i saw a calendar showing the first match was russia-uruguay. now it’s listed as russia-saudi arabia?
not sure if madela effect… or putin effect?
Shazaam! Three points.
Twitter synchronicity:
We haven’t scored in a while.
Back-to-back-to-back is insulting enough without Joey “Singles” Wendle being the second back.
I’m not dissing Wendle until Barreto proves he’s something more than AAAA.
Wait, why is Maxwell starting against a lefty?
Lucroy caught all 13 innings yesterday.
Meanwhile, Maxwell may need a week to catch his breath after that run around the bases.
If Piscotty can’t even hit lefties…
From the department of Why Is Your Baby White?
This is pathetic.
I still believe that we will win.
Also that I could host FK Day 2018 in the front row right now and no one would notice.
Some day.
Oh right … as soon as I leave the party starts.
From the front row seats to DC and back in under 24 hours went as well as could be expected.
chapman sure is great at defense
What’s the word on the draft? Who do we want? I need takes.
Hot take: The A’s should draft healthy guys.
also ones that are good at baseball.
Thanks, and go As.
where’s bed? we have so much to talk about…
https://arbys.com/saucy_af/
I’d love to get Jon Stewart in that conversation as well.
Brodie Brazil just said Semien has played every inning of every game so far.
He had to make a kid in order to get some rest with this bench.
i don’t think that is true, is it?
Apparently it is.
Nathan Eovaldi is making his first appearance following his second Tommy John surgery and a subsequent cartilage-removal procedure on the elbow.
If we can’t get to him…
I’m sure he’ll be lights out right up until we acquire him.
He looks pretty darn good so far.
Come on, Lucroy.
I don’t know what this means, but I agree
Add Bad Brains and it’s on.
OTOH Ovechkin is a Putin loyalist so fuck em anyway.
I miss april manaea
I certainly hope he gets good again, otherwise the eyebrows might be the next to go.
I miss having a productive offense.
(15 runs in 8+ games w/o Khris)
When Manaea was going good, I was wondering if he could make it last with a 88-90 mph fastball. Guess we got that answer.
this is nuts
We’re getting no-hit by the 2xTJS guy. Neat.
Just 36 pitches for him through 3 innings. They aren’t even making him work.
Feeling better about this watching what he is doing to the Yankees today.
I didn’t really pay attention, did the Yankees pay a lot for evoladi?
Still bitter about hanley
The Red Sox traded a decent starting pitching prospect (currently in AAA) for him.
Ramirez immediately introduced to the A’s defense.
Argh, on a pitchout even.
Good thing it’s Whiskey Wednesday in the The Treehouse. I would need to be extremely shit faced to make it through this one in person.
Font! If anything can get us going…
Out god dammit.
Font hits his Oakland apex.
Braden’s comparison of Font’s motion to a pitching machine is dead on.
the nice thing about this game/team is that bad defense, bad hitting, and bad pitching seem to go together
Hit poorly, hit without power, run bad, field worse, throw poorly, no tools, in an empty rusting toolbox.
They’re going to have to give all 69 people who stay until the end of this hideous exhibition of baseball a prize. A stack of a dozen coupons for free drinks in the Treehouse, or something like that. I feel like I deserve a few coupons just for watching this long.
I had front row seats for this but I had to give it up to my seatmate. Poor guy
That is right up there with the most depressing A’s performances of all time.
Font came through, though
At least I can feel good about my decision to turn it off in the 3rd or 4th inning.
Being swept in a 4-game series at home to Tampa Bay and consequently dropping back below 500 would be a bitter pill.
With a 13-game run against Tampa Bay (4), at Kansas City (3), at Texas (2) and home vs. Kansas City (4), staggering to something like 3-10 would not bode well for the rest of the season.
Are you ready to declare today Soaker Day 2018, or is your respect for Mengden too strong for that?
Once they survived that usually-fatal BOS-NYY-TOR road trip I thought they ought to be good through late June (SD-CWS-DET road trip).
The predictive value of our opponents’ records for A’s W/Ls has been dubious of late.
But KC.
Our ace is on the mound and Korach is back. It turns around today.
And Khris is back.
And he immediately scores our first run.
The Rays aren’t much of an attraction but I wish a few more people thought this A’s team was worth watching, and would actually care if the team were sold and moved out of the area.
Well, at least we knocked their starter out!
It’s not just the left-right etc. mix. It’s that we don’t have a Mike Trout that you need to have your starter duck.
Piscotty!
Khris back, A’s score, QED.
If you’re going to do the “opener” thing, and he puts guys on base, bringing your “starter” into the jam seems suboptimal. Burn another reliever and ask your starter to pitch innings 3 through 8 or 9.
Maxwell is not cutting it even by the abysmally low standards for a backup catcher.
But he’s so lefthanded!
June 1 was when Joyce put it in gear last year, and that needs to happen again because he’s been stinko lately.
Mengden is really wonderful.
Matts!
Matt to the right, Matt to the left.
Here I am, stuck in the middle with Matt.
Either that or “and you’re the only girl in town!”
Matte Finish.
I want somebody to draw a “Mutts” comic strip but it would be “Matts” with Olson as the cat and Chapman as the dog.
And it’s a Matt three-way.
Will Bob let Mengden go for another SHO here?
Dang, that’s 24 innings in last three starts for Daniel “Innings Eater” Mengden.
All of them scoreless.
Blast you.
Until this one.
Matt Trick!
Throw all your Matts on the field.
Just catch it, baby.
One-pitch save
So June will be the 4th straight month the A’s habe reached .500! Four down, three to go.
Any interest in a FKing tailgate before the Sunday game?
Aside from it being 3 months away…If I’m there Saturday night I’d certainly stay for Sunday afternoon, so sure. While Labor Day weekend isn’t the nightmare that Fourth of July is, it’s still another good time to get away from Tahoe.
I’d misread your message, and thought the 6pm firework game was on the Sunday.
Turns out Sunday’s game is a 1pm start.
Brunch tailgate
If I’m in town Labor Day weekend I might be up for that twin bill.
Proposition I on the SF ballot next week:
The backstory is kind of amazing.
Good for both of the principals. It is hard but maybe not impossible to believe there was no deeper machination in play.
Ed, do people forget how great Cheryl Miller was?
yes. yes they do.
Her high school games were on the news in socal. Not just the 100 point game.
No Tar Heels on either of these rosters.
To hear the NBA pundits talk, the ghost of MJ is out there guarding LeBron.
And we go the video monitors because hey why not.
I think they got that right in the end though. It was a block.
I think Mike Breen just called that foul on Tristan Thompson.
He just gave Tristan a basket Klay made.
Yairo Munoz started at SS and hit a walkoff, three-run homer last night for the Cards. I can’t shake the feeling that we are going to regret trading him.
6 errors 1-4 SB. Hitting well, sure.
He is not taking over for chapman, I don’t think anyone is giving up on barreto, so, meh?
It mostly comes down to me being nervous about giving up players that St. Louis thinks are worth obtaining. It’s admittedly irrational.
There’s also the fact that Piscotty is not good.
Thanks, and go As.
He is a hero, sir
Which Piscotty? We have two now.
