For family reasons, I’m rooting for Cleveland. Also, a 108-year futility history is not something to set aside lightly.
for jon lester and jason hammel and ben zobrist and chris coglin reasons I am rooting for the racist hat guys
Ditto.
Go Cocos!
Northern North America Series
Central North American Series.
Two out of Five Great Lakes Series
EDT and CDT Series
Loser Gets Indiana Series
Coghlan is starting Game 1 of the damn World Series.
I’m having horrible visions of him becoming this year’s Cody Ross.
Chris one and a half wins below replacement level in only 172 plate appearances Coghlan?
Joe Maddon is now indistinguishable from Lori Petty’s character on Orange is the New Black.
tank boy!
whoever has the water, has the power
Cleveland, city of light, city of magic!
I can’t see Joe Buck now without staring at his hair.
Honestly, those are some pretty good plugs.
Lesterrrrrrrrrr
This is fairly delicious.
Lester is pooping the sheets so far.
Jesus, Lester. WTF.
Adam Rosales just threw his beer bottle through his TV, and I considered it.
You would have to pay me so much money to watch that Skip Bayless/Shannon Sharpe show.
I assumed it was a 30-minute show. There are TWO AND A HALF HOURS of that.
no longer in the car, proceeding to not care anymore
I don’t recall a World Series first pitch time being moved up. Usually the network is pretty locked in to its time slot. They realize how lucky they are, with Cleveland and Chicago, it’s not a week’s worth of snow in the forecast.
Oh, Rajai.
Oh Cubbies.
I am rooting for the Cubs and I have nothing against Zobrist.
ricketts
That’s why they put vitamin D in milk.
This being the World Series, I guess there is no danger of his wife singing the anthem.
Welp, the Warriors suck
These two doofuses really dressed up to honor our country during the anthem.
Been a long time since I really watched Fox network broadcasts of the postseason. I have to say that Joe Buck without Tim McCarver is basically fine.
He’s awful. Just fucking boring. And his comments are inane. He’s not much better than Kuiper. But at least Kuiper knows a little about one team that’s playing. My preference is for them to STFU and just give me the crowd noise. Throw in a sideline reporter for important info that we’d otherwise not know from watching the game.
He’s totally boring. But that’s an improvement over ruining the game, like McCarver did.
I agree with you on this. Buck seemed to compete with McCarver to see who could be the more pompous. Smoltz has a quieter, thoughtful approach which is a much better complement to Buck; instead of two blowhards in the booth, it’s more like half of one. Aikman is louder than Smoltz but I think that team works pretty well too in a sport where loudness is more appropriate.
That’s a good analysis, but still I can’t hear Joe Buck without seeing that smug fucking look he always has. Also, because Fox Sports is so dominant Buck gets a huge share of championship events, and I’m sick of him.
Yeah, this is Buck’s 19th World Series, by far the all-time PxP leader. Curt Gowdy, who was the voice of every big event when I was a kid, did 11. Does not seem right.
OMG the side effects on this “Lyrica” drug!
One of my grad school roommates dated a woman named Lyrica. I remember giving her a hard time when those drug ads first started up.
Never a good sign for a company when it has to buy World Series ad spots to promise to stop doing fraud.
Trump and the NRA are the leading ad spenders on these telecasts in Reno. The NRA’s spending seems to be working as that background checks measure is polling much closer than a few weeks ago (Yes still leading).
I get that Cleveland has a great hot streak going in their alt blue tops, but hosting two World Series games without seeing the home whites is a crime.
Zobrist looking like early favorite for MVP.
for a losing squad?
The 2.000 OPS is gaudy.
MLS playoffs on Unimas.
SAP is not working.
LOL
Thanks, and go As.
av: going down a you tube hole, I can’t figure out anything about your niece here.
help me out.
i’ve got cousins from madrid to manila.
she seems to be argentine? funny lyrics. title is addicted to being right. about a guy who likes to argue. favorite line, te chupa bien o un huevo mi opinión. roughly, not certain if my opinion strikes you well or sucks your testicle.
there isn’t a lot of info on her. i saw a couple of articles that say thing s like “she is a songwriter and comedian.”
but nothing else.
Adelson seems to think he has Mark Davis over a barrel at this point.
he…he has a stadium in oakland.
you forgot the air quotes around stadium
Thanks, and go As.
Reduce the scope and do it without him. Seems an odd scenario.
Irwindale still has a big hole in the ground…
This story seems to be on all the online outlets…EXCEPT that I can’t find any mention of it on the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s web site.
Heh heh.
My guess is this is about Adelson’s ownership piece. One of the unknowns of this deal is what exactly Adelson gets for his investment. The Raiders are loathe to give up any ownership % in any deal anywhere. But Sheldon’s not doing this out of charity.
I would imagine that the NV legislature will quickly retreat from the largest public stadium contribution in history if all the private cash suddenly disappears.
I don’t think the NFL owners have any real objection to going into Las Vegas due to the gambling association, they aren’t generally known to turn down $750M of public money and many of them most likely align themselves politically with Mr. Adelson. But the notion of actually getting into bed with him as a partner, I see as the biggest stumbling block the owners would have to overcome.
Also concerns about leaving top 3 media market in favor of #40.
The notion is that they’ll draw a ton of out-of-town visitors, which works with almost all games played on Sundays. Make sure the schedule is written so that the Raiders are essentially a home team in both the Bay Area and LA, so most/all of their games are televised in both of those markets. (This becomes quite a bit harder in LA though if the Chargers eventually go there.)
The local market size issue does doom the NHL expansion team, which seems like the dumbest franchise placement ever. Fans of the visiting team are not going to come in just for a regular season game on a weeknight. The NHL can get away with having teams in hockey-crazy small markets such as Winnipeg and Edmonton but not many Vegas locals are going to give a crap, and most avoid the Strip unless they work there anyway, so that arena is going to be 2/3 empty seats a lot of the time.
Split market vs fresh though. I suspect that part is less impactful than Adelson. Especially given the extremely unlikeliness of getting public money to build a new stadium in the bay area.
Every game will sell out, easily.
“Book a weekend in Vegas, get Raider tickets!”
Televise games in LA and in the Bay Area as ‘local’ games — they can gerrymander the shit out of the home TV zones anyway.
Thanks, and go As.
Some of Mark’s $500M contribution would be coming from PSLs, which sounds like a disaster, but those will mostly be bought by the casinos and other travel companies which will sell the best seats as part of all-inclusive travel packages.
You expect Pravda to run with a quote from the Premier just because it ran on the BBC?
Was on a school field trip. It was surprising that one of the biggest bullies/bad attitude kids was wearing a Draymond green jersey
My local burrito place hasn’t had avocados for more than a week. This shortage is becoming problematic.
Very long, very sad article about the death of ex-sportswriter Jennifer Frey. A’s fans may remember her as the writer who discovered and wrote about Glenn Burke living in his sad last years. Well worth the time to read, though tough for those who’ve struggled with alcoholism in their families.
Wow. Really good and sad piece.
Sidenote: Somehow I had forgotten that Bo Schembechler was involved with that Jack Morris fiasco. What a jerk.
Such a good article, such a sad story.
Tough to parse out exactly who is scamming whom here.
… for Hillary?
Can I have $5M?
Getting your client acquitted on the most seemingly slam-dunk charges imaginable and then getting yourself tased in the courtroom is quite the day’s work.
I’d be happy to see them freeze their asses off for another winter out there. Better that than some of the other things those dumbasses might do in the wake of a Trump defeat.
Well, it sounds like they are headed to your state to stand trial next. We’ll see whether the jurors there are as amenable.
On field football graphics are getting a little out of hand with the “FG Target Line” ESPN has.
Yeah, I was just noticing that too. Do they adjust it for each team’s kicker? What about wind direction/speed?
The Pence plane that went off the runway at LaGuardia appears to be the same airplane that previously carried the SF Giants paint job that Reddick complained about early in the season.
Which would have been a good story but further research has shown that it’s not the same plane. This is a plane the Florida Panthers used last season; the Giants paint job was on a different plane.
My expectations for this game were pretty low, but I didn’t expect Cal to plant the white flag on the field during warmups. ESPN can’t be happy about this.
Well, the Bears are on a short week and USC had a bye.
Also, Cal sucks
Thanks, and go As.
In a sane world, college football games would be exclusively on Saturday afternoons.
yeah but midterms
Thanks, and go As.
“Cal sucks” is half right. The Bears have scored 51, 50 and 52 in 3 of the 4 wins. In the 3 losses they have scored 40, 41 and 44, AND LOST ANYWAY. So the area where they need to improve is sort of obvious. But I’ve said here before: if Cal’s coach ignores defense, and you are a 5-star or 4-star high school defensive player, why would you choose Cal if you have other offers, and particularly an offer from Stanford if you’re academically eligible for either one.
USC is running through them like they aren’t even there.
Final: 398 yards rushing allowed, the fourth time in eight games they have allowed >300 yards (somehow one win in those four, vs. Texas).
The halftime interview with Dykes was amusing. Asked what they needed to do to stop USC he basically said uhhhhhhhh….we need to score more.
Cal needs to ask themselves what is their real ceiling with Dykes? What is he building? The recruiting has been terrible, particularly on defense, and if not for a gift in the form of the Webb transfer, they are likely 2-5 (possibly 1-7). I look at what MacIntyre (who had no interest in even interviewing with Cal & whose last SJSU team handled Dykes’ LA Tech squad) is doing at Colorado in terms of actually refining the program from the ground up, and I see none of that at Cal. They are (were?) in the nice zone where all of the California plus Oregon are trending down, and yet Dykes consistently is doing nothing to elevate the program.
I would have never handed him that extension (every Cal fan I know was hoping something would materialize from his inter-school flirtations last Winter), and it seems unlikely they would fire him this season. It will likely take the “bottom” falling out next year for that to occur; however, if by some miracle he was took a job with some other school (Texas Tech?), at least the healing would finally begin.
i assume everybody here already listened to the rachel maddow baseball hour about the latest baseball metrics? tRMP? basically, splits the field into two categories, best baseball player in NY in the 70s and not best baseball player in NY in the 70s.
I love the add-ons: all sports, really. Like wrestling. And, football.
Wrestling? Really?
Ratings for Bill Simmons’ HBO show are reaching 2016 A’s levels
He’s terrible on TV, and too old for his writing style.
Great ideas guy, though, in the sense of 30 for 30s and related concepts.
Not just too old, also too rich. He was complaining on his podcast the other day (I still hate listen) about having to watch football on his dad’s 8-year-old plasma TV.
When your whole schtick was being the everyman, it’s tough when youre no longer the everyman.
It’s funny how un-self aware he is about that. You listen to him and he acts like everyone watches football at Jimmy Kimmel’s house and has courtside seats at Staples.
Cancelled
Sort of fitting that on top of all the other ongoing institutional damage to our system of government, the FBI has now been totally politicized.
this is depressing. as someone who dislikes and distrusts law enforcement. it sucks
I still can’t get over the director seeing fit to announce Clinton was “extremely careless” back in June. That seemed like pretty inappropriate political ass-covering. Of course, the Republicans completely blew it by ignoring that gift and going with the “she should be in jail/she shouldn’t get security briefings” angle that the public was never going to buy.
Clinton suddenly looks like the A’s with a 2-0 lead in the Division Series.
Didn’t expect Anthony Weiner to play the Eric Byrnes role.
(tries, fails to craft “touch the plate” joke).
If Jeter shows up at Trump events next week I will be worried.
Derek Lowe crotch chop at the victory party.
It pleases me that Marlins fan dude was unable to get a front row camera view seat for the first World Series game at Wrigley.
Yay Coco.
Also, FK you Rajai.
They said Larry Vanover was assisting with the replay. I was shocked when he came out and called a balk on Travis Blackley.
(and yes, at his palatial estate, Angel Hernandez ruled it a double)
This came out yesterday but they should push it again with the tagline SHOCKING NEW WIENER VIDEO:
” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen>
fuck scott weiner too
I assume his campaign is toast since Bernie came to town for Kim. I mostly like him, but him staying on the board of supes while she goes to Sacto isn’t a bad outcome.
with many SF dems, I’d be fine with them in washington. I feel that we have a unique opportunity to have true progressives here and in Sacto. Like Newsom. (not harris, fuck her)
I have trouble with this “true progressive” concept. What does it mean to you at the local level? Weiner strikes me as having roughly the same politics as Newsom (who I like a lot).
he is taking money and aligning with new new money libertarians. I don’t like that.
I like him because he is pragmatic on development and enthusiastically pro-mass transit expansion. Not surprised the tech people like him too, especially because he is more open to “quality of life” measures than Kim is.
(Oh, and for full disclosure I also gave him a (very) little bit of money! Attended a friend’s meet and greet with him and you can’t really do that without cutting a check.)
Newsom is a showboating lightweight. Where are our Elizabeth Warrens out here?
Theory: We don’t have an Elizabeth Warren because California elections are too expensive to win without corporate cash and the professoriate of our Harvard equivalent is too co-opted by the tech industry/venture capital.
Yay Coco. Helluva game.
that one looked fun. its too bad it doesn’t hold my interest
I don’t remember who was “Smashmouth” over on **.
Sure, Smashmouth was a shitty band. But they were a shitty Bay Area band, some members of which probably grew up rooting for the A’s. Dumb move to fight with them.
bingo.
and FFS, they still get played over and over every july around the league
Milo’s rec game at ft scott against your 3rd grade boys was canceled due to ft scott already being a swamp.
this means 2 games canceled.
Fall soccer on most of the grass fields is pointless. None of them drain at all.
always at risk of losing a shoe there anyway.
Yeah, Ft. Scott tends to have those hidden mud pits even after a week of sunshine.
I shouldn’t laugh at people getting sick, but…
disrupting your bowels
Shut your yap, you mouth breathing sack of shit.
can’t wait to see president trump with a chief wahoo cap
way to make Kluber work guys. short rest, prolly going in game 7.
and miller went 20 pitches last night, lets make sure we save him for only one inning today, right cubs?
this is the time that cubs fans panic, right?
and when dan otero comes in?
when interviewed last night the coco was told he had no pinch hits this year.
that can’t be true?
Appears so.
0/10 in the regular season this year.
But 6/15 last year.
And now 2 in the WS.
coco!
hmm, now my buddy from gary indiana that is starting a murder trial monday won’t be needlessly distracted
7 pitches?
come on now francona, bring in otero who I don’t hate, it wasn’t his fault he was brought in too late and too often
i don’t get miller going 2. would he be unavailable after 7 pitches?
If a team in any city is going to blow a 3-1 lead in the finals, I would like it to be Cleveland.
Just win, baby.
A Silver and Black and Yellow victory.
Spectacular
He was wearing his batting helmet in the field in the 9th in anticipation.
In case he had to beat someone over the head with it.
Ah, the 1970s.
somewhere around the pitchers mound you see an umpire (and a cop with a giant nightstick).
the umpire looks terrified
Guy in gray windbreaker = Stanford trombonist
Got a super sketchy call from some bumbling dude claiming to be taking a poll regarding the “sugar tax” ballot measure. I unfortunately had to hang up on him and leave the house before I could find out what kind of push poll “questions” were coming.
God, he’s so stupid.
what the hell?
I honestly can’t tell if he is telling supporters to try to cheat, or just telling them to waste their time.
Jim Harbaugh in the Wrigley stands, with his mitt on.
Yeah, following a super-awkward pivot to him by the Announcers.
Seriously, it was as though Harbaugh was the star of a wacky new Fox sitcom. I’m picturing a psycho football coach forced to retire and coach little league instead.
i guess that was cool. didn’t like the outcome.
fucking lester. dick
Oh man, if the Clevelanders blow the 3-1 series lead, my brother is going to get trolled something fierce.
J fucking C.
and fucking buddha, fucking mohammed, fucking confucius, fucking (yet virginal somehow) marÃa, and all of the other fucking ones, probably some atheists to be mentioned, jason fucking torpy (?) too,
seven fucking days still…
(this is the best though. i mean like, totally. no sarcasm. feeling sorry for any world series between two totally deserving longstanding bystanders.)
Hi!!
Thanks, and go As.
mike fucking V!
Man, that shit was ugly for the Vikes tonight.Still can’t believe they didn’t go for that 4th down play near midfield in the first half, but given what they weren’t able to do the rest of the game it probably moot. So much for hopes up.
Florida Man has outdone himself
Hey now. He’s a victim too!
Cleveland is really trotting out the crappy pop country artists for the anthems.
Not sure that was a “tough break for the Indians” as much as it was bad baseball playing by the Indians, Smoltz.
Fosse is already hitting the hard stuff.
I think Naquin is the Basque word for “guy who sucks at catching.”
(sigh)
Well this was uncalled for.
Team Dynamite’s entry into World Series Game 6 has expected result.
¡Presente!
Game 7, hooray!
Coghlan hits a solo homer in the top of the 11th, off Miller’s 86th pitch. Then in the bottom of the 11th, after a walk, Coco homers on Chapman’s 94th pitch, an 85 mph “fastball”, for the win.
It’s important that Chapman’s devastating overuse injury not become known until after the Giants have overpaid for him this winter. I’ll also accept the Angels overpaying.
I think we’ll go watch at Triple Rock, so if any of you other FKers want to join it would be good to see you.
I do love it when the guy completely forgets that there is a pretense he is supposed to maintain about something.
Finally looking closely at the California ballot measures and boy are there some bad ideas in there along with the good ones:
-60: Mandatory condoms in porn, allowing the “state, performers, or any state resident to enforce violations.” WTF on the bolded part. This is a horrible idea.
-53: “Voter Approval Requirement for Revenue Bonds above $2 Billion” – Hell no.
-66: “Designates superior court for initial [death penalty habeas] petitions and limits successive petitions.” Noooo. Let’s repeal the goddamn thing instead (Prop 62).
60 makes it so the any-resident gets money from enforcing the violations. dan savage’s latest rant is all about this.
My understanding is that 60 is a, um, fig leaf to cover for the true motivations of the anti-porn crusaders who are funding it. And AHF, the AIDS group fronting the Yes campaign, is widely disliked by other AIDS organizations.
Getting paid to closely examine erect penises is just a side benefit.
yep.
yeah those are weird
Where’s the one that would allow me to buy beer through the self-checkout line at Safeway? That’s almost as irritating as Oregon’s gas pump law.
SERIOUSLY.
They have an attendant there anyway. If they really feel they need to verify ID, have them come over and do so.
Thanks, and go As.
Most of the busts for underage sales locally are at mom and pop liquor stores, AM-PM and places like that. Although one of the local Walmarts has been nailed 3 times in the last 2 years, but the self-checkout itself wasn’t the problem in any of them. These are the Walmart cases:
The solution is employee training, not forcing alcohol buyers into the slowest lines.
Counter-point: Requiring ID there, where frequently the person watching over them is missing, would slow down the entire check out system. I’ve been stuck waiting countless times because they don’t actually staff the area. While it’s not a legal problem, per se, and stores could technically make the rule themselves if they choose, it does add an opening for someone to just say fuck it and run. Especially when it could look like they’ve paid for it. Personally, I like the way it is now, but it’s less about being concerned about minor’s drinking and more about me not wanting to sit there through what should be a quick check out process that someone has interrupted so that their ID could be verified.
counterpoint
go to a human that is employed. it will cost you dozens of cents per trip, but save Kroger thousands. fuck kroger
Do you boycott ATMs and go to the full serve island at the gas station too? I don’t try to perpetuate obsolete jobs.
solid point.
although i don’t go to ATMs, but i do a lot of electronic banking.
So many hours of my childhood spent standing, well squirming, next to my mother in the line at Bank of America so she could withdraw $40 cash, so we could go to Safeway and stand in the checkout line where the checker called out the prices orally (“Twenty-nine, nineteen, one and a half pounds at thirty-nine a pound”) while manually punching the keys of the NCR cash register. Yes, technological advance costs people their longtime jobs.
The one I can’t quite make my mind up about is 51. Normally I’m all for school funding, but I keep waffling on this one.
I am a big fan of empathy, but this is FKing ridiculous.
And what does NAFTA have to do with all this? Once again, I’m not totally clear on that, but I needed to mention it at some point.
Surprising little difference between that satire and
Roland’s true motivations are little tough to discern. Send in more liberal white Cal professors to live among him for five years and we’ll understand what’s really going on here.
i love the little moving dots.
http://flowingdata.com/2015/12/15/a-day-in-the-life-of-americans/
if the day is dots, everything outside it is lines.
In case you thought the insanity ends in six days.
New Philly hitting coach: Matt Stairs
So they’ll collectively hit .213 as a team next year, but they’ll have like 1200 homers.
Thanks, and go As.
But will they take walks?
~18:00
the company that made the blackbox algorithm for criminal recidivism predictions currently in use recognized that there’s a gender bias… and put out a patch to weigh for it!
but it’s sold separately.
OK, I’m officially rooting for the Cubs since the Clevelands are wearing wahoo caps.
Think my support gave that fly ball the extra push it needed.
i want to be there because wahoo is awful, but i fucking can’t root for the rickets and jon lester
Hopefully Lackey gives up the game winner.
We are going to look back with disgust on a Game 7 of the World Series in which both teams chose solid color tops.
It felt like a split squad game on March 8th in Surprise because of that.
Seems like the Cubs actually benefitted from the AL winning the ASG because they get an extra game with Schwarber in the lineup.
I went back and paused but couldn’t tell what LeBron was drinking. I’m sure some Ohioan will identify the label. It wasn’t Bud or Miller at least.
Twitter says Goose Island 312.
I think it was a Goose Island! From Chicago…
Uh oh, that goes with his Yankees cap. Goose Island is AB InBev though, not really a Chicago beer anymore.
Dueling TOOTBLANs
LOL at Coco even considering being the one to catch that.
This Rajai looks familiar.
Rajai as starting center fielder for a World Series team is just an insane thing.
Chisenhall/Rajai/Coco/Naquin is a rather underwhelming group of OF for an otherwise very good team.
Name the former Athletic who was in their Opening Day starting lineup this year as the right fielder (no way anybody can get this): Collin Cowgill
No puppet. No puppet. YOU’RE THE PUPPET!
This Rajai, not so familiar.
Holy. Shit.
Bomb Shelter?
How many times have I now heard that “one swing” could turn around Heyward’s awful 2016? Gotta be more than 10. Might be 50.
But how foolish will he feel if the one time he didn’t say it, he finally hit it?
I’ve never seen a wild pitch do that. Glad it happened to Lester.
This game has such epic choke potential.
I was just in the process of trashing Rajai to my wife.
It’s OK – he still sucks.
OMG
AHAHAHAHA
Wow, Rajai actually hit double digit HR this year, for the first time in his career.
This is a beautiful clusterfk, innit?
i don’t know what exactly the fk is going on but I’m glad to see you.
i don’t know what exactly the clusterfk is going on but I’m glad to see you.
glad i fixed that.
Wee bit rainy.
Cody Allen not looking great right now.
Patented Coghlan dirty slide.
Interesting.
I’ll add this to the list of why Vox turned out to be pretty annoying.
I made the same assumption as Vox, figured that this user had just posted a ton of predictions.
I assumed it too. But I like to think I would have taken some steps to confirm the assumption before authoritatively claiming it for clicks.
not sure what you guys are so impressed by.
that prediction got the end of the world wrong by a whole week.
This is good Voxing though.
I like Yglesias. I think he accounts for most of the vox stuff that I read.
why vox sucks, explained
I’m a little nervous about that huge crowd right outside the left field gate. Keller Williams can tell you something about gate crashers.
Man, he did it to Coco again.
Wow, Lindor.
What is Chapman still doing out there
I think he’s pitching until his elbow goes Jarrod Parker
HA HA HA HA
Now, for 45 minutes of Joe Buck vamping.
Let’s send it back to Robert Buan at the mothership…
That and a whole lot of “I’m Donald Trump, and I approved this message.”
Rain forecast for the next 8 hours.
It was right about this point that a friend & I left 3Rock, went to KPFA for a half-hour studio set, then got back in time for bottom of the 10th. Crazy night.
Just before I went to bed, I saw a clip on channel 7 from the Rock. And the Cubs fan they were interviewing was someone from my office.
I always liked Rajai.
i can’t tell from your comments if this game is over yet.
oh. i see. yeah…
have fun everybody!
It’s honestly a little unsettling how good A-Rod is at this.
My wife really dislikes him as an commentator, but I think he has been very good! Providing more actual insight than Rose or Thomas.
He’s polished, articulate, substantive, and informative…a rare combination in ex-player analysts. The only knock against him is that he’s, well, A-rod.
Choke potential now redlining.
Now that Lester and Chapman already sorta choked, I’m ok with the Cubs winning.
Cleveland shouldn’t have taken Coco out. The ex-A’s quotient shifted.
This is just setting up the Rajai game winning grand slam. He’s done it before…
TOO SOON!
In a year when the NFL’s TV ratings are down pretty significantly, that was probably baseball’s highest point of this century.
I know it sucks to be an A’s fan when the FKing Gnats win the WS. Can you imagine how hard it must suck to be a White Sox fan in Chicago tonight?
Meh – they won it recently enough.
Not according to the WorldWide Leader in Sports.
I missed the entire game flying home from a 10 day trip visiting the in-laws, campaigning in Pennsylvania, and conferring in Princeton.
Originally I was on an ex-Continental plane (Direct TV), but I was offered an upgrade to business 2 hours earlier at no cost but on original United metal (streamed video only), and took it.
I was OK with the Cubs, but the giddy response by what seems like everyone rooting for them is already annoying me.
Hey, it was a messy, exciting game. Cleveland plugged away, with Rajai pulling off huge hit after huge hit to get them back in it after the pitchers finally couldn’t do it any more. And fine, Chicago was the better team.
But they’re already the Red Sox. Lots of money, gonna be real good for years, gotta watch Addison Russell and recall that trade. And everyone is required to love them.
Yeah, looks like the Russell trade really did help someone win a championship.
I’m glad that this horrible season ended in epic fashion, and I’m happy for the Cubs fans. Doesn’t change how much 2016 sucked though.
Pretty brutal here by the Big Hurt.
I love it. FK Pete Rose.
Thanks, and go As.
Eat the Pain
I think the weirdest thing about Silver’s projection right now is is the 9.2 percent chance of a recount scenario (less than 0.5 point margin in a decisive state). That seems ridiculously high.
FK nate.
harry enten or bust!
“If Clinton lost New Hampshire but won her other firewall states, each candidate would finish with 269 electoral votes, taking the election to the House of Representatives,†as quoted in Chron.
Even if she wins, as still seems likely, the verdict on Hillary has to be that she’s just not that good at being candidate, from 2012 on at least. And New Yorkers are the worst star-fucker voters ever.
Business Insider is repurposing 538 for clicks and then syndicating it to SFGate. What a world.
I’d actually replace New Hampshire with Nevada in the “firewall,” but his model isn’t so into Nevada for her. Anyway, his model says what it says. That’s fine, if kind of weird in it’s jumpiness. I’m getting sick of his punditry, though.
As for the verdict on Hillary, I don’t love the no-win scenario you’re drawing up. Granted she has image problems and is not an Obama-like political talent, but I think she has done what she has needed to do to win in a very fucked up situation. Our politics are deeply screwed up right now, and she never had a chance to run an inspiring campaign against a figure like Trump, especially given the dirty tricks she’s had to deal with.
And there’s a Washington State elector unwilling to vote for her and willing to be fined for it.
Sounds very constitutional.
