reddick lined out in his first at bat, both the tv and radio broadcast noted that “now he is in a race!”

that kinda pissed me off. Anyway, the radio said he was selective, the TV said he was a free swinger

If you were to purchase an A’s jersey of any current player, who’s would it be?

      [–]AthleticsOfficial[S] 27 points 7 hours ago
Well, I think I owe my daughter a Billy Butler jersey; she loves Billy! And my son still wants to wear his Cespedes shirt when he gets the chance, so he’s probably due for a new one as well.

It’s a stupid AMA, but that Butler response is ridiculous.

On the other hand, give his son extra ice cream.

      Creepy!

I accidentally found out where you live, because this March I was walking in Berkeley and saw you walking into your house with a box labeled “Forst” and an A’s backpack. I won’t say any details of your address here.

Anyway, I have an offer for you. If the A’s win a world series by 2019, I will buy you any pizza you want and drop it off at your front door. I know, this might not be your highest priority when it comes to winning baseball games, but it will probably be more delicious than any champagne you taste or tears of joy. Any pizza, any size. Hand-delivered to your doorstep for no charge.

Sorry to hear that. Not a soccer fan but I got lucky with my usually sucky Islanders this year, although the ultra exciting game that moved them past the first round wasn’t on t.v. for me.
And the Raiders have improved, but as I recall you’re a Niners fan.

I just hung a jury. the judge tried at least 4 illegal things to get them to convict.

but in the end violated my clients probation. and yelled at me (out of the presence of the jury) for making a record of a continuing objection of court records he was allowing in. and then the judge himself dug out a court record that was missing and allowed the DA to enter THAT record as a certified conviction (even though it was just the court’s public document system). he yelled and stormed off the bench as i was making my record telling me my client was working the system and that wasn’t fair and SHE needed to think about if SHE really wanted to push this (legal) issue.

I mostly like Jed despite his obvious limitations, and it’s great that he’s a gamer and all, but when you are a marginal player to begin with (.708 OPS through the end of June with poor range on defense) playing hurt isn’t doing anyone any good (.472 OPS since). Just have the damn surgery and get the recovery over with before next year.

I’d like to see more of Arismendy Alcantara anyway. Not expecting a whole lot, but he is a former top-100 prospect, and is still only 24. These are the perfect circumstances to get a better idea whether he is still a potential future starter, utility guy, or just filler. Maybe add Chad Pinder into the mix in September.

Just about any time a team is headed for 95 losses you’ll see some players shut it down early and head home, so I think this is about clubhouse salesmanship for Lowrie. I’m not quitting on you guys, I really did stay out there and try to play until it just became ridiculously counterproductive.

Alcantara or Pinder? Max Muncy’s 55-game trial at 2B starts today! Wendle appears to have flatlined; a .311 OBP in AAA isn’t going to get it done.

Although oddly on May 12 and 13, they played at 7:05 at home vs. the Cardinals and then had to fly after the game to Seattle for a game the next night.

They have four weekday day games on their schedule, three at 4:05 and one at 12:35. This is the only one of the four that is not required to start prior to 5 p.m. under the CBA (in each of the other cases, the visiting team was at the end of a road trip and had an off day at home the next day). I know we’ve had this discussion about 4:05 before and never did figure out the answer.

Of course they almost never mention my little stretch of the San Diego and it is always the same traffic, so that part doesnt impact me much fortunately.

Caltrans used to feature the names on the BGS’s but they phased that out some years ago. Now it’s route shield, cardinal direction and control city.

Probably, and so do the Dodgers. The Dodgers play three weekday home games not counting their Opening Day, and all three are for that same reason, visiting team at end of road trip with day off following. The Dodgers start all of theirs at 12:10.

A win today puts the A’s at 48-60 at the 2/3 point of the season. Last year the A’s were 48-60 at the 2/3 point of the season. I’m going with 20-34 or 21-33, whichever it takes to get to exactly 94 losses again, as that corresponds to extrapolation of their current Pythagorean W-L for the rest of the entire season.

    2015:
    Final record: 68-94 (.420)
    Final Pythagorean W-L: 77-85 (.475)
    One-run games: 19-35 (.352)

    2016:
    Current record: 47-60 (.439)
    Current Pythagorean W-L: 45-62 (.421)
    One-run games: 16-17 (.485)

“When you go to a team and you’re not winning, it’s really tough,” said Coghlan, who went spent 2 1/2 months with the A’s, who are in last place in the AL West. “It doesn’t matter how good of a year you’re having. It’s really tough on older guys.

“You realize it’s not about winning and it becomes a political game. Younger players need to play, and rightfully so because the season is a wash and why not give them exposure? … And when you come to a team that’s about winning like the Chicago Cubs and at all costs, you realize everything gets played to ‘Is this for the win or not?’

Oh yeah, it’s really too bad poor Coghlan got torn away from those Cubbies, historical powerhouse winners that they are. How dare those pathetic A’s try and find other options other than he and his .158/.253/.276 line.

With the big caveat that this report comes from the A’s themselves, if accurate it sounds like they handled it really well. A lot of organizations would try hard to hide this story, I suspect.
