Forst!
reddick lined out in his first at bat, both the tv and radio broadcast noted that “now he is in a race!”
that kinda pissed me off. Anyway, the radio said he was selective, the TV said he was a free swinger
I’m dreading our first walk off. The win would be sweet but the pie would be as bitter as my heart.
Wouldn’t it be cool if Khris Davis had even *one* other tool to go with his power?
Manea is throwing darts tonight; these guys are dead in the water.
Gotta watch out for those water darts.
Forst held an AMA today?
Huh. Yeah.
Welp.
It’s a stupid AMA, but that Butler response is ridiculous.
On the other hand, give his son extra ice cream.
Creepy!
Or, for every year you finish last I drive by and shoot out your living room window. You pick.
Bye bye 4th place.
Can they please give him a FKing day off. What’s the point of running him into the ground during a season like this?
Abad’s first appearance as a Red Sock: brought in to face Cano with a 4-2 lead, gives up a 3-run HR.
Hope the curse of Team Dynamite continues with his new team.
Yonder, hope!
Hit it out Yonder.
Was tempted to head out to the “A” giB.Went with my boss and friends this weekend to slegnA-Sux. Saw tickets as low as $13 for today.
Then the trade happened and didnt feel like hanging with Billy Butler for the evening.
Too bad Street is out.
Whoa, man, tough K call.
Ump has Bedrosian on his fantasy team.
The three outside pitches called strikes were all in the 9th inning. Strike 1 to Muncy, Strike 3 to Coco, and Strike 2 to Lowrie.
Sigh. I really wanted a win after yesterday’s news. Something to make me feel good about the A’s.
Not a whole lot of season left?
Thanks, and go As.
Ouch! (and hi!)
Hi!!
Don’t worry, the Quakes suck too. :(
Thanks, and go As.
Sorry to hear that. Not a soccer fan but I got lucky with my usually sucky Islanders this year, although the ultra exciting game that moved them past the first round wasn’t on t.v. for me.
And the Raiders have improved, but as I recall you’re a Niners fan.
But we both “kinda” like the A’s so that’s one thing we got.
Over half the league makes the playoffs in MLS.
Quakes have made it 2 seasons since they came back as an “expansion” team in 2008.
Thanks, and go As.
good news!
they have lovely uniforms
Okay, purely for rooting interests I need us to keep Vogt, Crisp, Doolittle and retain sole custody of Sonny.
good news though, if you can’t afford the $265 for licensed material, just get the plain black tee (only $195!!).
There cannot be a person who looks at this and says “I would like to exchange $295 plus tax for that item of apparel.”
I don’t know, the model looks pretty excited to be wearing it!
And doesn’t everyone hand-wash all their t-shirts anyway?
A former Black Flag drummer played at a party in my backyard in LA circa 1988. He tore off his shirt at one point. If I’d only known I would have saved the scraps for resale on the apparently lucrative punk nostalgia market.
I think that’s just really good taxidermy.
(brushes dust off box of CDs) (sneezes) Huh, here’s I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One. I bet I haven’t listened to that in a dozen years. Maybe tonight during Vince’s innings.
Relevant
Heh. Some of my late 90s CDs are clearly KFOG-influenced: Edie Brickell and New Bohemians, Shawn Colvin, Indigo Girls, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Rusted Root, Sonia Dada, Yo La Tengo.
I assume you have that “Smoke Two Joints” song somewhere in your collection too.
I would try to leave work at 4:58 on Friday to make sure I caught that.
Another music thing, in the old-school KFOGgy vein: I’ll be at Grace Potter’s show at Crystal Bay next week. A rare summer show for me at that venue; usually that is a 45-minute snow and ice drive. I loved Grace’s show a few years ago; haven’t kept up and don’t know what she is playing now.
And lastly (for now), The Killers with Special Guests Harry Reid and Barack Obama is on the calendar (I think tix are still available if you can do a Wednesday afternoon show).
Pretty fun that we are now running a Max Muncy/Danny Valencia platoon out in right field.
Ed you may enjoy this
i’ll read it later, have you seen this?
That’s great. Does this one actually happen?
not the jury, but every 10 years or so you hear about a mis identified defendant
I just hung a jury. the judge tried at least 4 illegal things to get them to convict.
but in the end violated my clients probation. and yelled at me (out of the presence of the jury) for making a record of a continuing objection of court records he was allowing in. and then the judge himself dug out a court record that was missing and allowed the DA to enter THAT record as a certified conviction (even though it was just the court’s public document system). he yelled and stormed off the bench as i was making my record telling me my client was working the system and that wasn’t fair and SHE needed to think about if SHE really wanted to push this (legal) issue.
Jesus. You have a really hard job.
awesome
Productive outs that AB for Butler.
Someone find this Healy kid an apartment!
I’d bet he’ll be at one of those Extended Stay places in Alameda for the home stands, like all of the other Nashville call-ups.
Oh, come on. Not Cliffy too.
oh cliffington
I’m pretty sure Jed Lowrie could clear waivers…anybody?…
past a trying lowrie
While my somewhat IPA-fueled comment above is probably true I think it was a bit harsh.
I mostly like Jed despite his obvious limitations, and it’s great that he’s a gamer and all, but when you are a marginal player to begin with (.708 OPS through the end of June with poor range on defense) playing hurt isn’t doing anyone any good (.472 OPS since). Just have the damn surgery and get the recovery over with before next year.
I’d like to see more of Arismendy Alcantara anyway. Not expecting a whole lot, but he is a former top-100 prospect, and is still only 24. These are the perfect circumstances to get a better idea whether he is still a potential future starter, utility guy, or just filler. Maybe add Chad Pinder into the mix in September.
Just about any time a team is headed for 95 losses you’ll see some players shut it down early and head home, so I think this is about clubhouse salesmanship for Lowrie. I’m not quitting on you guys, I really did stay out there and try to play until it just became ridiculously counterproductive.
Alcantara or Pinder? Max Muncy’s 55-game trial at 2B starts today! Wendle appears to have flatlined; a .311 OBP in AAA isn’t going to get it done.
if only jaso had been there in 2014 we could have seen sonny gray skip the last start…
you know, reddick didn’t play.
if they didn’t want him, why did they take him?
The problem that remains is: Experienced Manager Bob Geren is the bench coach and probably has input into the daily lineup.
Maybe Reddick didn’t pass the finger-sniff test.
if anyone is drowned in Drakkar noir, reddick is
By Pythagorean W/L the A’s are closer to 1st but way further from 4th.
Triggs’ appearance did get me to pop in the Yo La Tengo CD. It’s not what I listen to now, but as a statement of where I was musically 20 years ago post-Jerry, really not embarrassing at all.
They’re wonderful.
Saw them at UCLA during a horrible brush fire. it was super hot and smokey and no one would stop to watch them
yay?
you know what’s nice?
Putting the kids to bed has, for the past 2 years meant that the lead would evaporate. today I went in and the a’s were down by 2
I on the other hand flipped back to the game just in time for Valencia’s 1-2-3 DP.
naturally
heh, ken just said poo holes
Vogt’s reaction was fantastic.
I don’t know about Scioscia playing hit and run there, seems like a risk
Why does today’s game have a 4pm start time? Seems weird.
angels are dunb, won’t do mid week day games
I think they would be within the CBA rules to do a 7:05 start tonight, but presumably their players will appreciate an earlier flight to Seattle.
i think so. its funny because if they were continuing the homestand, I am sure this would be 705
I just don’t get their antipathy for day baseball. Just one more FKed up thing about OC culture?
my impression is the dodgers don’t have day games either.
I don’t get it? cars? too hot? I don’t know
Anyone saying its too hot down here needs their head examined.
Now a 2:05 start on a Sunday in Fresno in August? THATS how you tell who a real fan is.
Although oddly on May 12 and 13, they played at 7:05 at home vs. the Cardinals and then had to fly after the game to Seattle for a game the next night.
They have four weekday day games on their schedule, three at 4:05 and one at 12:35. This is the only one of the four that is not required to start prior to 5 p.m. under the CBA (in each of the other cases, the visiting team was at the end of a road trip and had an off day at home the next day). I know we’ve had this discussion about 4:05 before and never did figure out the answer.
being positioned 3 miles from the orange crush, 405 start seems like a complete nightmare
orange crush being the confluence of
the5 (santa ana freeway)the22 (garden grove freeway) andthe57 (Shit I can’t remember, I mean YAY! i can’t remember) Freeway. All very very busy at rush hour(s)
Too funny..You even said it in your comment.
57: the Orange Freeway
dammit!
i still got san diego, costa mesa, riverside, hollywood, long beach, century, santa monica etc in my head.
Theyre starting to eat at my brain Ed. I find myself talking about how I take THE 405 home.
No, that’s perfectly fine when you’re there. What’s NOT acceptable is saying “the Oakland Coliseum is next to the 880”.
I five next to safeco
I don’t know what its like now with waze and all, but it used to be really important for “traffic on the sevens” to know the names of the highways
It still would be. They have about a 60/40 split of names/#’s.
Of course they almost never mention my little stretch of the San Diego and it is always the same traffic, so that part doesnt impact me much fortunately.
sometimes I take the hollywood freeway into downtown SF
Anytime I pass the Slauson exit my inner Johnny Carson speaks up.
“Take the Slauson cutoff. Get out of your car. Cut yer Slauson off. Get back in yer car.”
Caltrans used to feature the names on the BGS’s but they phased that out some years ago. Now it’s route shield, cardinal direction and control city.
I am guessing they request to have the least amount of CBA enforced day games built into their schedule.
Probably, and so do the Dodgers. The Dodgers play three weekday home games not counting their Opening Day, and all three are for that same reason, visiting team at end of road trip with day off following. The Dodgers start all of theirs at 12:10.
How have there not been 2 or 3 Bruce Jenkins columns about this yet?
It hasn’t affected him personally because he doesn’t give a shit about the American League + there’s no angle where he can blame the scheduling on the commish being Jewish.
“why isn’t game 5 of the NLDS being played on oct 11?”
edited because it originally said oct 1, not oct 11, which made the joke
It’ll be like getting….
For the money required, he’s likely to be a better investment for 2017 than Rich Hill.
2017?
The Max Muncy 2B Era…off to a roaring start!
Ugh, such a giant step backwards for Jesse Hahn this year.
this is not a game i want to invest in
But…Zach Neal is warming up!
i haven’t turned it off. and even sent a tweet to vince to add somehting to what (i think) he said. but I have no idea the inning (wait its ken must be 5th) or the score
This whole series has looked like the battle for 4th/5th place that it is.
now this is good baseball!
I am not saying zach neal needs to buy coco lunch (you know with the salary disparity and all) but damn.
wait, bob is calling a sacrifice?
Bruce Maxwell is terrible at bunting which why the fuck is he doing that anyway?
Crisp putting on quite a show tonight.
he clears waivers, yeah?
A win today puts the A’s at 48-60 at the 2/3 point of the season. Last year the A’s were 48-60 at the 2/3 point of the season. I’m going with 20-34 or 21-33, whichever it takes to get to exactly 94 losses again, as that corresponds to extrapolation of their current Pythagorean W-L for the
rest of theentire season.2015:
Final record: 68-94 (.420)
Final Pythagorean W-L: 77-85 (.475)
One-run games: 19-35 (.352)
2016:
Current record: 47-60 (.439)
Current Pythagorean W-L: 45-62 (.421)
One-run games: 16-17 (.485)
And Vince says we’re inconsistent…
For a while it looked like you were going to keep up your impressive streak of jinxing the A’s. For those who believe in that sort of thing.
I knew the A’s would suck this year, but what pisses me off is I feel like I destroyed somebody’s career right here. That was the equivalent of the exact moment of the peak of the dot-com era in the stock market.
And from the category of food service fads:
Good lord, I hope this is true
of course its giavatella
Good thing they started this one early.
As part of the Play the Young Guys program I’d think designating Dull as the closer for several weeks if not the rest of the season wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Hooray
We actually won? W00t!
I gave up on this game twice.
never in doubt.
riveting win!
LOLOLOLOLOL
Oh yeah, it’s really too bad poor Coghlan got torn away from those Cubbies, historical powerhouse winners that they are. How dare those pathetic A’s try and find other options other than he and his .158/.253/.276 line.
you know, that doesn’t piss me off as much as the treatment of lester in that article. Lester’s quote isn’t that bad, but his in ability to keep a 4 run lead is more the reason we fans are bitter.
so we are committing to Muncy/ladendorf at second?
We’re afraid of commitment.
I really don’t understand Ladendorf instead of Alcantara.
Man. We’ve been star-crossed at 2b for sooooooooooo long (excepting the peak Ellis years)
Throws elliptical machine
With the big caveat that this report comes from the A’s themselves, if accurate it sounds like they handled it really well. A lot of organizations would try hard to hide this story, I suspect.
yeah, it seems.
pretty dumb of the strength coach. I don’t see the benefit, nor does the camera seem well hidden.
I can only imagine that he thought some of the rehabbing players were phoning it in while he was out of town.
I’m sure thats it, but doesnt that hurt them more than him, so who gives a F? Honestly a player that would blow off rehab, but then be so shamed by a video that they got to work probably isnt my guy anyways.
