      Which old one?

Who am I kidding, I’d settle for the old old Arlington stadium at this point. Hell, I might settle Colt stadium in Houston..

Obviously I hope the A’s win tonight, but I really want them to win by one run.

You really can’t frame your listicle as guys who have “boosted their trade value” this year and include Sonny. There are rules in this society, dammit.

    • colin May 20,2016 11:19 am || Up

I guess the one argument for Sonny’s trade value going up is that Strasburg recently signed a long term contract and now there won’t be any good free agent pitchers this coming offseason.

Crap, I can’t make fun of the Raiders any more. This is terrible.

Sure, but the Niners are going to have 12 of [INSERT OUTCOME HERE] so that’s better!

Ok, so since Im in LA do I only get Rams and a national game now every week? I guess I can just steal my games but living out of my teams network is just weird…

Last season, 15 of the 16 Chargers games were shown in LA (12 Sunday daytime, 2 MNF, 1 NFL Network). Once, LA went with Denver at Pittsburgh over Miami at San Diego.

The Raiders were on in LA 4 times (3 Sundays, 1 NFL Network). One of the Sundays and the NFL Network game were Raiders-Chargers.

Add: When the Rams are at home, their game will be the only one shown at that time slot in LA. A Rams home game would always be a late game, usually on Fox. So CBS would have to show an early game on those days. That would knock out both the Raiders and Chargers fairly often.

                  Looking at this season’s schedule:

The Raiders have three games in prime time.
And 12/18 they are @SD, and the Rams don’t play that day, so that one would probably be shown as well.

OTOH, 10/9 SD @ OAK is up against BUF @ LA (Go Bills!) so wouldn’t be available.
Likewise 1/1 OAK @ DEN (possible playoff implications!) conflicts with ARI @ LA.

The Raiders also have 5 early games, but they are all early in the season, and all against other non-playoff teams. I don’t know whether there is enough latent Raiders interest in LA to make the local programming director opt for a game like OAK @ TEN.

I think LA’s “latent interest” would increase if the Raiders show early in the season that they truly are competitive compared to the persistent suckage of the last decade.

I didn’t go through this year’s schedule but in Week 17 (only) the home team exclusivity is waived and both daytime networks show doubleheaders everywhere, so LA would get either OAK @ DEN or KC @ SD that day. Based on the above, the Chargers game would figure to get preference if both games were important.

It’s the Chargers fans in LA who figure to be the biggest losers this season, unless the NFL’s scheduling treated the Rams and Chargers as same-region partners and avoided conflicts, as they do with the Raiders and 49ers.

This was a good academic exercise. There are surprisingly few conflicts between the Raiders and either the Rams mainly or to a lesser extent the Chargers, so the summary for Raiders games on TV in LA this season is:

                  Yes: 3
                  Probably: 3
                  Maybe: 6
                  Probably not: 1
                  No: 3

9/11 OAK at NO: Maybe (competes with TB-ATL, MIN-TEN, CHI-HOU, GB-JAX, no conflict with Rams or Chargers)
9/18 ATL at OAK: No (SEA-LA supersedes)
9/25 OAK at TEN: Maybe (competes with CLE-MIA, BAL-JAX, DEN-CIN, no conflict with Rams or Chargers)
10/2 OAK at BAL: Maybe (competes with TEN-HOU, CLE-WSH, BUF-NE, no conflict with Rams or Chargers)
10/9 SD at OAK: No (BUF-LA supersedes)
10/16 KC at OAK: Probably (the only late game on CBS and the only way to avoid a Rams conflict)
10/23 OAK at JAX: Maybe (competes with IND-TEN, CLE-CIN, BUF-MIA, BAL-NYJ, no conflict with Rams or Chargers)
10/30 OAK at TB: Probably not (competes with KC-IND, NYJ-CLE, NE-BUF; no conflict with Rams but SD-DEN late game more likely)
11/6 DEN at OAK: Yes (NBC Sunday Night game)
11/21 HOU vs. OAK at Mexico City: Yes (ESPN MNF)
11/27 CAR at OAK: Maybe (competes with KC-DEN as the major late game; no conflict with Rams or Chargers)
12/4 BUF at OAK: Probably (the only late game on CBS and the only way to avoid a Rams conflict)
12/8 OAK at KC: Yes (Thursday Night, NBC and NFL Network)
12/18 OAK at SD: Probably (competes with NE-DEN as the major late game; no conflict with Rams)
12/24 IND at OAK: No (SF-LA supersedes)
1/1 OAK at DEN: Maybe (competes with KC-SD; Rams not relevant)

Thanks for all of this Soaker. I’m officially a cord cutter at the moment and so far I can handle it.But what appears to be the first real good season since 02 makes me know that the fall will be the hill where I decide my fate.

On the plus side I am pretty darn happy I will have no choice but to skip 5 hour pregames that I would end up turning on for no reason every Sunday morning.
