Game 43: The team’s play makes us say ‘Eck” 67

Once again in progress. It is safe to say that we wont be comparing GT records this year.

We are in TB, tomorrow Wash gets to start stroking the ego of Semien telling him every throw is amazing and he is a “gunning machine” or some such nonsense.

    Eck Eck Eck. I swear, they’re trying to get Melvin fired. There is no other explanation.

      Starting tomorrow they even have a stalking horse they can use to say they will Wash there hands of the whole thing.

      (I do not believe that the FO plans to consider Wash like that at all, but is this team ends up winning 60-70 games it will be said.).

    I wont be here for our entire show tonight, but I will be able to provide some Zito thoughts later. My guess is most of my thoughts will involve how bad “Frankenslice” is as a food idea, and how $2 beer makes it taste better.

      Frankenslice was better than I thought it would be. Of course I had 0 expectations so YMMV. They grilled the hot dogs which was a nice surprise. But I think they should make it worse for you and either surround the Frank with cheese or bacon to get it where it needs to be.

    WHAT THE ACTUAL FK BURNS?!?

  5. lenscrafters May 21,2015 4:42 pm

    Not sure if Gallego or Burns is to blame there. Gags is pretty much close to the end of his rope as third base coach with all the recent gaffes and Wash coming onboard. Burns…just really fucking sucks at running the bases.

    • Soaker May 21,2015 4:44 pm || Up

      Burns has made a few false starts on base stealing attempts too. It’s almost like a golfer with the yips.

      Until sometime later this weekend.

      15 games under .500 is the point where you’re no longer circling the drain, you’ve gone in and are on the one-way trip. The 2005 A’s were, I believe, the most successful team after bottoming out there (17-32, then ending the season at 88-74). They still finished 5 games behind what would have been the second wild card.

      Burns led off the game with a triple. Which should have been a fly ball out, but because the Rays had read the scouting report, their outfielders were playing at softball depth and he managed to get one over their heads. Anyway, great way to start the game!

      Semien then hit a fly ball to center field. Not super deep, but plenty deep enough that anyone except Butler scores routinely and it’s a sac fly. However, Burns took about two steps off third base then suddenly stopped and went back.

      Naturally Reddick grounded out sharply to 1B, Butler also grounded out, and the A’s were shut out.

        • Soaker May 21,2015 8:16 pm || Up

          Entirely on Burns. The fly ball was deep enough that someone with Burns’ speed can wait a beat to make sure he’s not leaving too early, then coast home.

      Correa..I dont often say this with kids in the minors, but SWOON.

      Also, for 2 innings last night Barry looked like maybe he should be given a chance. Then the top of the order got a second chance. RIP FITZ.

    So Mujica –> DL, Graveman to come up and all the current bullpen members stick around.

    Tuning into that Zito game, I notice that Parrino was pulled out in the second inning so something else may be happening too.

      Mujica –> DL
      Ladendorf –> called up to Oakland –> 60-day DL (I believe that costs them some money)
      Parrino –> 40 and 25-man rosters

      Presumably tomorrow:
      Coco –> DL
      Graveman –> called up to Oakland

      “Disheartening” certainly suggests 60-day DL but they probably want a second opinion.

            Was chatting on this last night on Twitter after I saw him pulled. I wouldnt be surprised if he got maybe one or two days out of the field. Like when you have a rookie QB that you pull for a half so he can see the game from the sideline or from up in the box with the OC. It could even be a Wash idea to give the kid a break.

            If it is mental in any way getting away from it for even a day cant hurt.

                Coco is apparently gone for a long time.

                Canha started well but has 2 hits in the last 3 weeks.

                Fuld, Burns and Gentry… (of course you could also say “Sogard…”)

                Zobrist –> OF for the remainder of his Oakland tenure, which won’t be terribly long.
