1. California moves closer to banning chewing tobacco at sport venues (would that include the spectators?)
2. The future is here and it is called StatCast (while I’m not that excited about it being incorporated into live transmissions, its addition to the well of the data that the analysts can use is of enormous importance. If it ever becomes publicly available, it will be a bigger sabermetric revolution than the PITCHf/x)
3. We should get Scooter Gennett. Apart from having a grade 70 name, he is a true Athletic (also a good idea for the June 24th improvements to the visiting clubhouse in Coliseum)
4. Apparently, Ike Davis broke PITCHf/x (or the first rule of the Ike Davis Pitching Club is that you never mention Ike Davis Pitching)
5. Obama lied, he never tried (it’s only genocide if you are not an important NATO member)
6. Searching for Explanations: How the Internet Inflates Estimates of Internal Knowledge (“Here we show that searching the Internet for explanatory knowledge creates an illusion whereby people mistake access to information for their own personal understanding of the information.”)
7. 603 km/h (or 3.108 Loaizas for those unfamiliar with metric system)
8. World Peace solved (I would have gone for Gérard Depardieu, but I can see the appeal)
9. Happy Earth Day, FKers! (“Mammoth”, “6/10” and “I solved it and it was fun, you should try”, respectively)
In case you are not satisfied with aroundness of this grill, please keep grilling until so.
5. The town I live in is one of the main centers of Armenian diaspora in the US, so I’ve seen lots of events around this year to remember the genocide. I wasn’t aware of a particular push to get Obama to acknowledge it, but I can’t say I’m surprised by the realpolitik in this case.
There has been a lot of lobbying in various countries. In Germany, the resolution that will be read on Friday includes the word genocide (well, Völkermord), but it was thoroughly debated how this will hurt the relations with Ankara.
A local congressman annually pushes a resolution for it. The rep may change but the Saroyan lobby will always find one to write it up.
I think that Fresno is another major Armenian center, yes?
It is very much so.

Re 1: I have a hard time picturing the enforcement on players in dugouts, clubhouses, and on the field. Probably it will be complaint based, like (annoying) people complain to the FCC about six they see and hear on live tv broadcasts.
Does it also apply to spectators?
Without any research, my guess is that most tobacco use by spectators is already banned by local and state laws. That’s certainly the case in the Coliseum.
Yes, AB 768 (PDF) would specifically prohibit the use of smokeless tobacco in the seating areas of ballparks.
How do you guys feel about it?
Pro. Dipping is nasty/unhealthy and I’m a command/control liberal so I don’t have to care about the no-second-hand-smoke distinguisher.
Anti. Big government overreach for an area which is simply not that big a problem in the general public.
I’m not CA so technically no opinion, but making it specific to baseball and saying this same conduct is OK at a soccer field is silly.
Re 6: I have always held my personal knowledge level in high esteem, even way back when it derived from hours spent in libraries.
But do you feel it is any different now? The access to information is so much quicker nowadays that the ratio of acquiring the information/sitting on it; using it is much different.
I feel like the Internet has caused the opposite effect for me, in more of a “I can look that up at a moment’s notice at any time, so no need to memorize it” kind of way
Isn’t that similar in a way, though? As in “I don’t need to memorize it because I know it (by looking it up)”
Rickey should not be losing to Sandy Koufax. Vote Rickey.
How the hell is Aaron ahead of Mays?!?

2. I thought Mays = successor to DiMaggio was rock solid conventional wisdom
Maybe it’s a reactionary anti-Bonds thing? Aaron as the rightful homerun king, and Mays tarnished by his ties to the pretender?

Oh, you have. carry on
We have numerous specialty license plates to choose from. You’ve probably seen the Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas ones which are far and away the most popular. As mentioned a while back I got a “Share the Road” one, and like it because the bright yellow logo helps me pick out my small silver SUV in a sea of identical cars in the parking lot.
None of the existing plates has any particular political point of view to express. However, some members of our current conservative legislature think we need another option, and a bill to create it is working its way toward the governor.
My question is: Are the people who would like to express that sentiment on their vehicle likely to be willing to pay the voluntary annual tax to do so by purchasing that plate? Or are they more likely to go to the NRA Online Store and buy a $2 bumper sticker to accomplish the same purpose? I sense program failure.
My general impression is that, for like 80% of conservatives, opposition to big government is really just opposition to specific government functions that they don’t like (helping poor people, mostly). So I don’t think there will be any problem with this license plate, though it would be excellent if Nevada invested the proceeds in a special unit of jackbooted thugs assigned to take away Cliven Bundy’s guns.
Nevada was “battle born”?
The official Nevada motto derives from the state’s admission to the Union during the Civil War. It appears on the state flag, is a theme of UNR’s athletics marketing, is the name of a brewery…I wouldn’t say “ubiquitous” but you do see it a lot.
More like “political expediency born.” Wasn’t it admitted when it was so that the Republicans would keep their supermajority in Congress, or something like that?
Something like that. A quick explanation from the official state historian.

So “Proudly Enabling, Since 1864” would be even better?

Well, we also got Eliezer Mesa, so there’s that.
The game we are looking for also had the losing team have the 95% win expectancy in the 5th and 0% win expectancy in the 7th
Without even looking I remember that game. Seemed like it lasted about 6 hours.
Wow-that has at least 3 guys I absolutely loved during their tenure. This should have told me all I needed to know.
its gotta be the blake street bomber era rockies, right?
Pennington had a 2b and a HR in that game. While Weeks was 3/5. Not sure which seems more unlikely in retrospect.
Interesting that there was one player who scored as part of all three.

I call BS on this disability fraud. He was disabled from doing his job. pay the man. that is what the insurance is for. You cannot live on it. if he can get another job to supplement. fine let him. if he has a friend be the care giver, well who the fuck else is going to do it.
Further, Josh pays the gov’t back and the elder wil get some kind of diversion.
I wonder if the State of Georgia accepts payment in truck winches.
gonna have to convince billy to trade for rick porcello
Yeah-he basically lost both of his hands? Pay the man.
And full disclosure, I am very much in favor of targeting people for disability fraud. I had a friend who was a CO and had a “shoulder injury” that eventually led him to total disability even though he can push his boat out onto the lake weekly, etc. But I dont see how managing a business means you lied about losing that hand here.
there is fraud. absolutely. but disfiguring is a different level like you say
I’m confused. *IF* that statement is true, then he’s guilty of fraud plain and simple. It’d be one thing if services are provided. Whole other ballgame if they weren’t. The fact that he was still working elsewhere is a red herring and entirely unrelated.
Maybe. If you believe the “inspectors”
I don’t. albeit without seeing evidence
Well and wouldnt the work all depend on what he is doing? He lost a hand and part of the other. As a bad example, I’m sure he could still be a storage locker auctioneer and be 100% truthful about his disability.
Yuuuup.
I’m just saying if what they’re saying is true, then it’s a pretty open and shut case of fraud. There’s no contention that he’s simply paying a friend to help him out for daily shit related to his injury as you stated. The contention is that he paid someone to do nothing. Without evidence one way or the other, I don’t see how you can make any claim for or against him.

This seems like a cheap, reliable low-commitment way to bypass MLB.tv territorial restrictions, although I wonder how those who use such means to bypass the blackouts feel about an article like that appearing in the L.A. Times.
If it makes them feel any better, that piece does a pretty bad job of explaining how it actually works.

Thanks, and go As.
Oh, seriously? That’s crazy. I watched the end and don’t remember that. Was it for trying to keep the CA guy from taking the ball back to the center circle after the goal?
The non-red card on that breakaway at the end of the first was inexplicable.
at least every language recap i’m seeing agrees on shoulda been red.
Even the Univision announcer said something that included the words “verguenza” and “arbitro” in close succession.
What I’ve read is that it was either for that or for “kicking the ball at an America player” apparently when he punted it back after the goal.
Seeing shit like this just makes me want to see Club America lose even more, and this one wasn’t even called.
Thanks, and go As.

The bit about how all the new stadiums are throwbacks got me thinking about what a cool ultra-modern park would look like.
That’s what I was hoping for with Cisco Field and with the Silicon Valley connection it made sense. Make it the techy ballpark. But then you have to constantly update because nothing would look tackier than 10 year out of date technology.
Now the only exciting stadium designs are Phone Booth carbon copies.
Target is pretty modern looking. It’s not like they went crazy with an edgy design, but it is refreshingly non-retro.
Wasn’t that part of the idea behind Marlins Stadium. Then they add the HR display.

Kris Bryant is freaking ridiculous. He inside-outed this fastball near his knees and almost drove it out of the park to the opposite field. For other players, that’d be a popup to second on a swing like that. That’s incomprehensible power.

(and the Astros could’ve drafted this guy but didn’t)
Fangraphs Jeff breaks it down here. The only comparable drive he could find was an opposite-field HR from Matt Kemp that was still 10 mph slower off the bat than the one Bryant hit.
Awesome, thanks for sharing
What’s the color-coding in the Petti-derived spray chart?
I couldn’t find good documentation for that, but I think red are outs, grey are singles, light blue are doubles, and dark blue are HR. So it’s not really as clean as Jeff suggests because there were some long flyouts in the same direction as the Kemp HR.
I got the tool working for me, and though they’re listed by run value rather than outcome, you’re basically right (doubles and triples are indistinguishable shades of blue).
Turns out the result is pretty sensitive to the pitch location box – I can get a handful more examples by tweaking the boundaries. More significantly though, limiting to left-handed pitchers only removes all but 2 other hits, and both of those were doubles against sliders.
Can I just say those Cubs uniforms are awful?

Note for anyone taking BART to Sunday’s game: track will be closed between Fruitvale and Coliseum.
That seems dumb.
It is unfortunate, but it needs repairs and they’re trying to find the time when there’s least impact. I imagine the A’s told them Sunday’s crowd for the Astros would be smaller than Saturday’s which has the giveaway.
Unfortunately, when he drops an easy FB in our last game of the season, it won’t have any playoff implications.
Good times, good times.
I look forward to him playing for the Mariners by then.
It will be fun to see the Ranger fans backtracking from 2+ years of saying how lucky they were to get rid of him.

Several years ago I watched a documentary about the bridges Conde McCullough designed in Oregon for Hwy 101 in Oregon. It was a 30 or 60 minute show it seems to me, and was just beautiful. I swear it was on the old HDNet, but dont know that for sure.
For the last few days I have tried to find it and am coming up empty. I dont know the name, or the director. And I was actually sick and feverish when watching it, so maybe I just dreamt the whole thing.

When you tell your child to shake her thermos to mix the cool water with the hot tea, and she replies “You mean like a martini?” is that a sign of good or bad parenting?
Bad. You’re supposed to stir a martini, right?
This.
Although “shaken, not stirred” sounds cool, it’s actually asking for a watered down drink (shaking chips ice-> more surface area->more melts)
yeah some of that stuff is too complicated.
Like, my version of a mojito? I drink rum and look at mint.
Thanks, and go As.
Much like the perfect Mint Julep. (Save this one folks-Derby day is right around the corner..)
Henry Watterson, the Pulitzer Prize-winning editor of The Louisville Courier-Journal, whose famous recipe for the Julep still speaks to the old-fashioned Kentuckian desire for unblemished bourbon, says: “Pluck the mint gently from its bed, just as the dew of the evening is about to form upon it … Prepare the simple syrup and measure out a half-tumbler of whiskey.” (Bourbon is a style of whiskey, after all.) “Pour the whiskey into a well-frosted silver cup, throw the other ingredients away and drink the whiskey.”
I like him.
Thanks, and go As.
Drinking straight bourbon is a fine every day pursuit. But to get slobbering stupid decadent for proper Derby appreciation a good mint julep is without peer.
Not if all the cubes are stainless except for the one you need to get that wafer-thin frozen surface layer.

As you might remember, I adopted an elderly cat last year who was expected to live only a few months more, and renamed him Brandon Freiman-Blevins because he’s tall and thin and long-legged (and his original name was stupid).
14 months later:
Brandon McCarthy is getting Tommy John.
Nate Freiman is on the Triple-A DL.
Jerry Blevins broke his arm.
Brandon Freiman-Blevins is purring and snuggly and happy.
Should I change his name to A.J.A-Rod Ventura?
Dang. I hadn’t heard about McCarthy until now. That sucks.
He’s sucking the life force from them for his own fuel!
Well, he is a grey cat…perhaps his secret cat name is Dorian!
Blevins is from Johnson City, TN. I now have Wagon Wheel stuck in my head.
The Tri-Cities? I spent a few days there starting up support from a vendor call center.
There was a restaurant there that had the best bacon wrapped dates.
Also, the TC airport is shut down by like 9. We flew in around then and it felt like there was a janitor waiting to lock up behind us.

RevHalofan being RevHalofan?
NO. WAY.
Seriously, fuck this guy. Back when most of us were on AN he already had a known reputation as a nutjob of the highest order, but he really settled it when he came over to AN itself and supported Nico during the last big departure (after the MikeV thing).
Now, this? It’s a big reason why SBN’s model is problematic. Many of their team pages are probably run by perfectly sane, normal people, but when they allow idiots and crazies like Rev and Nico to hold the power over the pages they do, it’s a big problem.

And:
But how many more views and clicks did HH get today. As sad as it is, I am not sure that Blez and TPTB will be too upset about this.
“No news is bad news” – especially if it brings page views!
Oops.
Not surprising at all, considering that he also posted on HH the address of the parents of the guy who killed Nick Adenhart.
I distinctly remember that, yes.
Rev coming in to throw gasoline on the fire was the absolute best part of L’Affaire MikeV. Highest of comedy that was.
If the site you invested yourself into metamorphoses into a pile of stinking shit, the feces should at least be abundant and the odor intense.
The part I find interesting is watching the Rev attempt to reconcile being a provocateur with being an SBN company man. He is dispositionally much better suited for saying “Fuck the Man,” which is why his defense of the SBN orthodoxy was so curious.
I gave the Rev probably the most vicious slam I’ve ever dropped on someone on-line in that thread.
I recall it being good, but was it better than “Happy snorting.”?
I’ll let you judge. He said a statue should be erected (heh-heh, he said erected) in San Jose in his honor. I posted a pic of the hideous Quetzalcoatl sculpture in downtown SJ which looks very similar to a steaming pile, and compared him to it (that is, a steaming pile).
I think I am almost ready to read through the tragicomedy now. After almost 4 years I can say IDGAF.
Christ, what an Anghole
Thrown to the wolves (SB/Blez Link)
That is one hell of a misleading title there.
Wow … the Rev finally got fired.
HH thread where their commenters are discussing it (Obligatory SBN LINK WARNING)
Highlights include commenters blaming Josh Hamilton for Rev’s firing
Maybe HH deserved Rev after all.
Wow. There are a lot of bad people in there.
Someone makes the point that Halofan started HH before it became part of Blezville. Any chance they paid him anything for that?
(orange county)
I’m enjoying all of the (apparent) posters from the Rangers blog coming there to eulogize the Rev and getting invective hurled at them.
Mine or SB’s?
I like how they refer to him as “that blogger”
I’m guessing the notion that SBN has editorial standards.
This. Or if they do, that that piece was somehow “regarding” them.
If you’re in the business of selling advertising and you get a phone call from a major advertiser threatening to cancel an account over something like this you figure out in a hurry what your editorial standards are. (Not saying that’s exactly what happened but it would be unsurprising.)
Or Yahoo threatening to pull the plug.
Why, the headlines weren’t too off topic…
Beat you by three minutes!!!
Thats what I get for not refreshing…
That, or the Angels threatened to cut off access. Hard to look principled with allies like that.
Whatever the case, good riddance to Rev Halofan, truly one of the worst SB Nation has ever allowed any sort of power to.
Blez is getting decent at PR-speak, but that’s still a pretty slimy post from him.
It’s one hell of a weak apology all around.
a) I can kind of understand not wanting to say anything about the content of a deleted post if it was offensive, but to not even say what blog/blogger it was?
b) The post didn’t seem any different than the kind of things Halofan was posting all the time 10 years ago. The Adenhart thing DoctorK mentioned was probably worse. SBN should really take some responsibility for giving this asshole an audience for all those years.
It’s laughable. They turned a blind eye to all the ways Rev Halofan made Halos Heaven and SB Nation look bad for YEARS. They only took action because this actually, finally drew some negative attention.
And of course, no comments on the post, because meta is bad.
You can always e-mail him.
I thought that “Blog Huddle” site existed as a place for SBN meta.
I can’t stop laughing at this turn of phrase:
“editorial” is a typo for “thought”
It’s what they’re great at!
If people would just WRITE DESCRIPTIVE HEADLINES none of this would have happened.
“Mutually agreed,” LOL.
He wanted to spend more time with his family.
That’s the rev, then? He runs an art zine?
Yeah, that’s him.
Yup
Most of his Facebook photos do well to perpetuate the image of him as a pretentious douchebag.
Someone found this piece about his legal spat with Axl Rose with more pompous assholery.
*facepalm*
More LOL:
Perfect
Indeed, so much of SBN is like appointing a horse, or a horse’s ass, to the Senate.
In the deleted “explanation” post, Rev asked “Has the world changed or have I changed?”
If asking that means people aren’t putting up with his inflammatory bullshit any more, I guess maybe the world has changed.
That’s not such a bad thing.
It’s also a Smiths lyric. He seems to like the Smiths a lot. I feel bad for Morrissey.
So if I ever meet him:
“Because you’re evil and you lie. And if you should die-I may be slightly sad but I wont cry.”
I think that is an excellent name and an even better reason for an art journal.
Reverend Halofan was a troll, and vulgar, and much of his writing on the Angels blog was gross in that way. He is also a better writer than 95% or more of the contributors to SBN outlets anywhere. Where I found it ironic that he was both an angry punk and a defender of Nico and The Man as embodied by SBN, I also find it ironic that most of you here on a fringe blog born laregly of a desire for unfettered self-expression cannot see past the trolling to appreciate the value.
but but but…it was slegnA!
And for me honestly that is why-I have never read one of his articles. I read too much about the team I love, dont have time to read about the team I loathe. (well I may have time, but then who will beat Burger Shop 2 for the 7th time this month..)
I don’t like him, but this isn’t anywhere near as bad as the Adenhart stuff (which is the only thing that really bothered me about him other than his taste in teams and support for tca).
Why not bring the value without the trolling? What’s so difficult about simply acting like a civilized, decent human being?
Wait. This IS sports we’re talking about.
Carry on.
I didn’t find that ironic at all, as his angry punk act was always more “try to antagonize as many people as possible” than “speak truth to power.” As a bonus, sucking up to Blez probably helped him keep his own platform for so long.
He’s stupid for the sake of being stupid, and nasty for the sake of being nasty. Calling it performance art doesn’t change anything. So no, I don’t see the value in it.
I’m with you on this. And, for a site that likes to see itself as some great, I dunno, community-driven place with a bunch of little “families” of people or whatever, especially to the point that many of them get inside access to teams and players, you’d think the people responsible for running these sites would know to be a little more professional overall. That’s just how I’d look at doing it.
We also know people who maintained other pages did not like Rev’s act and how it reflected on them.
Ever get the feeling you’ve been cheated?
It doesn’t matter to me whether his modern day Angry Punk was an act or who he really is. Probably both. Regardless, there is definitely a place in the sports media I consume for a person who has something to say coming from a place that is different. A rather undernourished place, really.
that it doesn’t matter whether it’s an act or not is partially a good point. however, &2 is saying it can either be a worthwhile act or another kind. putting it together with what you’re saying, not every punker is johnny rotten, some are lee ving. diff being, purporting to carry one being unacceptable in order to make you think / purporting to make you think in order to carry on being unacceptable.
For sure, and that is often the crux of the debate about art and satire. Sarah Silverman versus Andrew Dice Clay. Mapplethorpe versus Flynt. Doesn’t have to appeal to everyone…really, it shouldn’t. The Rev was no Mapplethorpe, he was a vulgar troll, but he also occasionally had something interesting to say and said it well, and today’s groundswell tar and feather mob (Keith Olbermann?!) seems out of proportion.
Also what andeux says about the Blezup-sucking is most definitely true.
that’s a different matter than the reliability of persona; it’s the uptrickling rebound of instashallow indignation / aka, someone please prove to me the internet isn’t just a schoolyard dogpile where everybody’s waiting to get their cheap shot in.
Just ran into a John Lydon interview that had some good FK convergence:
#dfabait
Looks like he made a farewell post that was then pulled too.
Grant:
Click through to see a little more of the comment string.
Following the links as you suggest, it looks like he compares himself to Charlie Hebdo in an already-deleted post.
You know who else deleted metaposts without explanation?
What a narcissistic fool.

OK then.
“Sorry not sorry”
We should probably send him a FK invite…
(joke obviously)
I didn’t think mb was joking.
And FSU was in favor!
I still am.
Ah, the heady days of 2012 when we thought we would grow this thing…
Yeah, the years since 2012 have surely been terrible for the A’s franchise.
Kind of funny that this burst of SBN meta has driven the most grill comments we’ve had in a while.
That’s how it usually works.
At least in this particular case it’s actually related to a lot of what drove people away from AN and, in a large part, SBN itself.
Well it has so many little connections to what started all of this to begin with it had to hit a nerve with most of us.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that if some scandal broke with MB writing copy for the Nazi’s or something we would chat it up quiet a bit.
Well, he has been spotted in Giants garb.
hey hey hey…I just said Nazis. You didnt have to go say THAT! This is a family blog you know.
godwin’s law already?
I really do hope whatever was going on settled out ok. He was mostly a good dude, and the way all that stuff went down sure reeks of “taking out other issues on an easy target” to me
*blushes*, then goes back to hiding under a rock.
flips rock over, starts poking around with a stick
Truly a martyr to the cause of being an unrepentant dick
At least it’s an ethos.
It’s so weird, I’m seeing all these sports folks on Twitter who I follow talking about the Rev…it’s like my worst asshole relative suddenly became famous.
This pretty much sums it up, dont it?
I forgot about Nico trying to get MikeV to actually meet him face-to-face or speak over the phone, especially after “email me.” That’s pretty ridiculous and unnecessary.
The ring wasn’t going to kiss itself.
And somehow I had forgotten the best line ever “NOTICE ME!”
It is FKing amazing that all of that happened over something that insignificant. Of course (and I cant remember if I said it here or on FB) but all that was was the symbolic cause Toonces used to put everything into place. It was his “Remember the Maine” to get his new world order all set up.
Wow – I was a real ass in that thread. Good times.
Ah, this was my best page-click producing work for SBN. I bought my car with that
Rumor was with a few more views they would have made you blog-father for the Reno Aces site…
I like to think I am a better person. I am not.
Trolling just for the hell of it.
That’s the first time I’ve been to the OC in a long time. Clicked to the front page and saw this headline by Napo: “Eyeball scout: what to expect in the next 20 games.” He’s become a parody of himself
Never change, Nico. Never change.
I dont even know why he bothers with his eyeballs. He has INSIDE SOURCES-isnt that enough?
The OC front page posts still show up in my RSS reader. There have been a whole series of “Eyeball scout” posts… and I’m like 95% sure they are in earnest.
He forgot the Shrubbery.
I can’t believe this actually happened.
(Also, I can’t believe this account still works and hasn’t been purged.)
Thats because you EMAILED someone. See-its easy.
First comment in 5 years?
I can’t believe you found us.
Followed the smell.
I STILL cant believe it’s not butter!
I feel the need to be witty and/or say something meaningful in response, but I can’t think of anything…
… so see y’all in 2020.
(Seriously though, FK is still in my bookmarks, but just retrieving the password takes a good bit of digging… and also, I don’t follow baseball at all anymore, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
Welcome back. You’ll be happy to learn that the A’s have won the last three World Series.
But they only defeated the Giants in the even years.
Following baseball is hardly a prerequisite
indeed. One of our favorites makes a point of saying at least once a week that she doesnt care about baseball anymore and would prefer talking to hitchhikers.
The admin here is too damn lazy to purge accounts much.
Delinquent accounts get put to hard labor in the keystroke mines.

“Man U., as devotees call it…”
I’m disappointed that we “get” Club America at Avaya.
Thanks, and go As.
On the one hand, they’re a big draw and now the reigning big dogs of the region. On the other hand, that’s a team that the Quakes should be striving to play in games that count, not in a cash grab exhibition.
Yeah, but I just don’t like playing an away game at home.
Thanks, and go As.
Man Ure, please.
And I’m surprised they couldn’t do better than Fiorentina from Italy.
they were going to send parma, but the FDA interfered.
Nice
I cant believe I am about to do this.
We follow a game. The people we “hate” are humans and do not deserve horrible things to happen to them. I really do wish Josh Hamilton can overcome his addiction. I really know Jeter was an incredibly hard working player and deserved most of the adulation he got. (I’m trying to work up the nerve here people…)
I wish him the best and hope he and his family can deal with this.
Didn’t even click and I know what you’re talking about.
Wouldn’t wish it on anybody.
Thanks, and go As.
Wow. Tomorrow’s Orioles game will be behind closed doors. That’s going to be eerie.
That will be reeeeeaaaaallllly weird!
Ooooh, I just realized Hawk will be on the mic. This has a chance to get super creepy.
Advice for anyone in the press box: Don’t sneeze. It will be like golf, with the batter stepping out of the box and glaring up.
It’ll be quieter than it is when Zack Bayrouty is calling a Stockton Ports game in Bakersfield.
protip: watch it with the volume way up in case they forget to turn down the field mics.
Good news, everyone! A’s ticket reps inform me that the new online ticket exchange system, as of Monday, DOES allow trading of white for green tier games and visa versa. Better late than never.
Have you actually tried it though? Historically they’ve not been the most reliable source of information …
Maybe I’ll restart the pool next season. But the top-tier thing would still rankle.
yep
I would like that and if we needed to select games ahead or something I would be fine with that provided we had time to talk it over, etc…
I haven’t tried trading white and green — or if I did I didn’t know it — but the new online system is great. You can choose your seat, just like buying a regular online ticket, but there’s no service charge. If you’re trading up to a higher-priced ticket, you only pay the STH price.
Messi scored, then he assisted Suarez.
Suarez scored, then he assited Neymar.
Neymar scored, then he assisted Xavi.
Xavi scored, then he assisted Suarez.
Suarez scored, then he assisted Messi.
Thanks, and go As.
They batted around!
It only counts if Messi scores twice
but.. he did
Thanks, and go As.
ALL RIGHT, THEN!
It only counts if Messi scores twice at the same end.
But the inning ended when Suarez scored out of turn and the opposing manager appealed.
goal tag. you’re it!

Better front three than Messi-Neymar-Suarez? Club or country, any era.
Unanswerable, of course, but I’ll start by throwing out a couple of possibles:
Pele-Jairzinho-Tostao
Puskas-Kocsis-Hidekuti
It’s hard to even imagine one better than that. Ronaldo-Benzema-James might come closest, actually.
Not really a front 3, but I have a soft spot for Henry-Bergkamp-Ljungberg
Mine’s for Keegan-Toshack-Heighway
Perreault-Martin-Robert
Tito-Nasser-Nehru
Especially with Sukarno as the midfield playmaker.
Shell-Upshaw-Otto.
Henry – Eto’o – Messi was pretty ridiculous
Thanks, and go As.
And 8 today – hat-trick for Suarez, 2 for Messi and an assist in letting Neymar take the penalty.
Obviously it’s been sort of a rough time for me in April, but that doesn’t mean I can’t still break out a birthday celebration once in a while. Today is the 62nd anniversary on Earth of one of Rock’s pre-eminent women, so blog with us now back to 1992 and a completely coruscating FM capture of Sonic Youth, burning down Rome using only oddly-tuned electric guitars and featuring the amazing Kim Gordon, born this day in 1953!
Jed Lowrie -> DL
He may go down in history as the only player to have his healthiest seasons with Oakland.
Shit, I thought the A’s made a trade or Bed showed up.
ik,r?
not going back to check.
was this NYT article about the oldest living yankee posted? he is 2/3rds right about modern players
But is he the oldest living Oak?
So good:
There is a new stat in town
Cool, so it looks like wOBA for pitchers and is better than simply using RA/9. I like this translation to WAR better than FIP > WAR.
Kazmir and Gray are ranked 3 and 4, respectively, by DRA. Gravemen is ranked 433, out of 442.
So it passes the eyeball test is what youre saying.
Nice fangraphs piece on the evolution of Sonny’s pitching approach over his three years in the majors. Includes gif!
Smart kid. He saw the state of the bullpen and changed his repertoire to give them fewer chances to blow his games.
