I just came back from Africa and, as always, it was a trip that will leave everlasting memories. It was basically fourfold and I’d like to share all four parts with those of you who have decent Internet connection as it is somewhat image heavy.
First part was Amani Children’s Home. Some five years ago I wrote about it on the Old Country and the archive of how I got involved with them is still to be found on my blog. We are building a farm there now, as many of you know and already have supported; if you want to learn more about it, just go here). Apart from all the other things, what I really enjoy while being in the home is taking some pictures of the kids. So, here they are:
After that, I went to Mafia Island, a relatively unknown and accordingly scarcely inhibited and visited island just off the coast of Tanzania. Its main calling card is the nature – the coral reefs and the whale sharks.
My third stop was Kampala, the center of Uganda, but more importantly the center of Ugandan youth baseball. If you don’t know the story about it, ask me – it’s worth knowing. I will be putting one up soon.
And finally, the last part of the trip was the most distant one, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest on the border of Uganda and DR Congo, home to about the half of the remaining 800 Mountain gorillas left in the world.
Lots of pictures, few words. More words available, if desired.
Dude! These are great!! How far were you from those Gorillas?
Thanks. At closest, an arm’s length. But most of the time some 3-5 meters.
Wow. What an experience.
Good call not letting the gorilla take any photos, by the way.
Gotta keep those rights intact.
Who do you think took the co-pilot shot?
God, if some of those inspirational quotes are to be believed.
what -ers?
Meter? Barely knew her.
Superb and powerful stuff.
Whale shark, holy shit
right?
Clearly my life is not interesting enough. Thanks for the great photos from your amazing trip.
right?
The pic right after the one of the kid wearing the headphones is amazing.
Thanks, and go As.
I want to go to there
Inappropriate, but you are seriously one handsome FKer, btw.
Thanks, and go As.
The truth is always appropriate.
If it makes you feel more appropriate, I’m not gay, but I’d like to bang him.
I’m a little bit gay after seeing the pics I think. Kind of like when you see Gigi Buffon or Diego Forlan.
Thanks, and go As.
sheee, this pics are so good, they make me gay for the monkeys! i even wanna hump that whale.
Not as easy as you think. Those fkers move fast
If I knew how to blush, I just might now
{EC puts “learn to blush” on bucket list.}
12 minutes later…
{Is world blushing champion.}
To be fair, 10 of those minutes were spent building an orphanage.
I sure wish I could take pictures like this–they are wonderful! I especially love the gorilla ones–so majestic!
Fantastic! Definitely see a little Adam Rosales in the picture of you on the motorbike.
And this is what was keeping you from giving us in depth analysis of the offseason on demand? Get your priorities in order, man!
On the other hand, I didn’t drop the camera, so I’m not sure how appropriate the comparison is
Did you sprint around the
basescontinent?Thanks, and go As.
Better than sprinting round the bases incontinent #nachoruns
We might just have to make #nachoruns a thing.
These are incredible. Sounds like another amazing experience; thanks for sharing it with us!
As a side note, very cool to have flown right seat in the Caravan. How much did you get to do on the controls?
Thanks. Not much, it was mostly fooling around when the plane was well off the ground
Where are the photos of lots? Heck, I was expecting some cool photos of parking lots and instead all I got was pictures of whale sharks and gorillas in the wild…pfft…who hasn’t taken those kinds of pictures?
I know. Sorry to be a constant disappointment, Bed.
Some really great pictures…it looks like you had an amazing trip.
this gag is going over my head
These are fantastic ec

Wow, Bojan, that is an incredible article. What a gift you have given us all by sharing this story.
That was a great read. Thanks for posting the link here.
Thank you for reading it. FK crowd is the one I always hope will get the most out of articles like this one, bridging the worlds of baseball and whatever it is we have here that I enjoy so much.
Fantastic stuff, and no surprise that the LLWS is as crooked as a $3 bill.

Thanks, and go As.
Chiming in a bit late on this, but this was truly a fantastic and interesting read.
The piece’s comments are also incredibly touching, thanks so much for giving a glimpse at this scene, amazing stuff.
Yeah, it was nice to see them chime in.
