Maximum catcher, minimum infielder:
Fuld (8), Jaso (DH), Donaldson (5), Moss (7), Norris (2), Vogt (3), Reddick (9), Callaspo (4), Sogard (6). Lester (1).
"Kraut will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no kraut."
I hope this turns out to be retroactive Day 1 of 15 on the DL.
Oh fuck you Gags. That wasn’t even close.
So bad.
Yeah, what the fuck? If a throw is six feet up the line and still easily beats the runner he had no business being sent.
Gah. These TOOTBLANs are killing me.
Donaldson isn’t as fast as he thinks he is.
When will they replace 3b coaches with well-informed traffic lights?
Need to program the traffic light to pat a guy on the butt when he gets over there.
The Japanese are waaaaaay ahead of you. On the butt pat.
I love Lester shaking Norris off.
That has to be a great education for a young catcher. The A’s have had so many pitchers who say “I let the catcher call the game and just worry about executing the pitch”, which throws the catcher under the bus for bad pitch selection.
Usually I only hear them say that after a particularly good game. Like, “And I only shook him off once!”
Got to hear an inning and a half on the radio. Really like Roxy.
Also, “one hops the wall” sounds like a ground rule double to me. Am I crazy?
I’m doing the reverse of my usual plan for games in this time period, and am timing my chores out of TV range for the 3-4 innings when Roxy has the lead call on the radio.
Man, if not for Roxy, I wouldn’t know what the fuck was going on. He had to explain EVERYTHING after the fact for Vince.
You can have Denny Matthews and Roxy call substantially all the radio PxP in this series if you’d like. Another option is going with the Vince/Steve Physioc combo.
Correct.
I was in my car going “why is anyone running wierd-one run scores, the other will get placed at 3rd no matter what on the ground rule double…”
It was Vince so I knew my expectations were wrong.
Pig is going 17-for-12 the rest of this series. Then he’ll disappear, because he has no evident role on the Royals when Hosmer comes back.
How on earth does a mexican place forget to put cheese on Asada fries? Its like forgetting to put it on nachos. (although it actually still is pretty damn good without it)
Funny story on radio: When Fuld was traded back to Oakland, he was in KC, and his extended family was with him, so they had to rent a Chevy Suburban to drive back to Minnesota to pack up all their stuff and move back to Oakland.
That was great hitting.
He went opposite field, so I think you are legally required to describe it as “a nice piece of hitting.”
Heh, gp.
Yay
My dislike of the new road caps has not diminished.
And those green jerseys. Same problem with them.
Aoki is the worst.
The Royals seem to have cornered the market on warning track power.
I’m starting to believe again.
No Glen, it wasn’t that hard.
Callapso runs like he is in leg irons.
Cement Shoes.
Bar Chart. DRINK.
I can never figure out how to read those things until the moment they disappear.
Lester is so fking good, it’s really starting to annoy me that he’s only here for two more months.
Funny, I was just thinking that Lester is so good I can’t believe we actually got him in a trade deadline deal.
Maybe Cherington told Beane: “If you want him here he is, come and get him. But you better hurry ’cause he’s going fast.”
Guess he got what he deserved.
He’s a like pitching terminator. Completely emotionless.
He smiled for like half a second at the end of his shutout.
MATT HOLIDAYJON LESTER HATES BASEBALLYeah but like I said, we can burn him the hell out and then not care.
See: Cookie Cookie Sabathia, Milwaukee edition.
Thanks, and go As.
Sabathia had a rather poor start in the post-season that season, if memory serves.
They make downtown KC look so good in those stock shots, but talk about funereal.
Without thinking too closely, KC might well be the biggest US city I’ve never been to. The streak might be safe for awhile.
There’s nothing to do there but see your sporting event, and eat. I’ve seen the A’s play there twice (before stadium improvements and after) and think it’s pretty unlikely I’ll ever go back.
Biggest US city I’ve never been to (airport excluded) is Atlanta.
On consultation with wiki there are a bunch of cities I’ve never visited that are larger than KC. Houston by far the largest I’ve not been to, then Jacksonville and Fort Worth before we reach KC at #37.
Philadelphia for me.
Has anyone kept a running tally of the WAR accumulated since the trade deadline, for Fuld and Cespedes?
I was just looking that up …
Lester – 0.4
Cespedes – 0.2
Gomes – 0.0
Fuld – 0.5-ish
Cespedes just improved his a bit…
Fuld has been undeniably useful with Gentry on the shelf. Quality move by Beane, and frankly pretty impressive that he has so little ego that he was willing to move an asset for a guy he cut a few months earlier.
Shift that one.
That was one beautiful bunt.
OH NO WE BUNTED WITH A 5-RUN LEAD
Bo Porter is googling flights to Kansas City so he can come yell at someone right now.
Nickel and dimeing the FK out of this guy.
They almost seem to be intentionally hitting away from their shifts tonight.
Shit, what if those old guys sitting behind me at the game were right and they can do that whenever they want?
Go Jerome Williams!
Hey Guthrie, California could use that water if you don’t want it.
I think it’s Gatorade.
gah
“There’s no chance I’ll lose my job in the next few weeks, so I’m free to suck.”
I wasn’t watching/listening for awhile; is that a Vince quote?
Should be two errors on Sogard – one for the bobble and one for air-mailing 1B.
Also, WHERE THE FK IS ROLLINS???
Would Robertson, Olson, Nunez, and Pomeranz be enough to get Desmond?
Yes. In November.
depends on how much you want it.
This is why you might bunt with a 5-run lead.
99 pitches would be his third-lowest of the year, but 122 tied for his highest and he had 5 days rest after the other one.
Son of Donald?
donald had twins!
Bold move gags
We forgive you eRBIc!
Did he really just throw an eephus?
The pitcher, or the centerfielder?
No, Reddick’s single was on a regular curveball.
As were Sogard and Fuld hits. I don’t know what’s up with gameday.
Gameday seems to think Chen has thrown an eephus to Reddick, Sogard and Fuld.
I swear I’ve seen Gameday this year call like 25% of pitches in some games as knuckle curves.
Cook’s scoreless streak is nice, but the 8th innings of games two and four in 2012 and 2013 respectively still burn deep.
Didn’t we blame Game 2 on Kottaras not blocking the wild pitch?
Yes, I believe the consensus was that it was more of a passed ball than wild pitch. Nevertheless, Cook put the guys in, no?Ye
Continued rain in KC.
SON OF DONALD
Hey, it’s the ass-kicking offense again!
Way to go josh chavez
Happy happy joy joy
Chen = Slump-buster
Aubrey Huff just got aroused.
He’s probably more worried about ZOMG WUTS THE MATTER WITH VOGEY???!?!??!?!?!?!
Ugh, Vargas.
With 3 LHP coming up in the next 5 games, I’ve been wondering if we would activate Blanks, who’s been rehabbing in Sacto, but haven’t heard anything.
It didn’t sound like he’d be ready for a while yet. Probably no sooner than another week or two.
We could use a little Jonny Gomes hot streak.
No gonna lie. I love the sad trombone.
As a trombonist I like most things trombone. (Rusty excluded)
Someone is at the game in an A’s Holliday shirsey.
Hell yeah Reddick. FK a shift.
I loved that song the Geto Boys did it.
DJ Ready Reddick
3 shutout innings from Jerome Williams. Get the bullpen ready.
Send it in, Jerome.
I was juuuuust about to comment on Wilson’s no-hitter …
I just like Callaspo’s slap-happy style.
Vince, just say human lite bright. No need to raise nationality
OK, what was this about?
Is that cricket in Fosse’s mustache or something? That thing is loud!
Now for a LAAA loss.
See, Butt of Thunder? They don’t need me.
You don’t need underwear.
Right…
Just going to pretend Utley and J-Roll are on the A’s for the next two days.
Fuuuuuuuck this could end with me praying for a Papelbon save. I don’t know if I can take that.
i’m not seeing the conflict anymore.
2 HR, 5 RBI for Chris Carter tonight. Good for him.
Has he cleared waivers?
No idea.
That Run is all Jerome Williams needs
Wow. Look at the angels highlights. Aybar hits into a 123 dp. Aybar is running on the fair grass and is hit in back. Easy out call.
Scioscia goes maximum scioscia.
Some good Scioscia face after Jerome buzzed Poohead with a high hard one.
Jesus Christ, Ceej. That was truly terrible.
(I kinda wish the A’s got Marlon Byrd)
(Maybe not)
That was close to a Full Canseco.
Not in the outfield, no.
So…do the Phillies have any relief pitchers?
Nope.
Hopefully tug McGraw can pitch ther 7th and 8th to get it to paplebon
How does a lefty lose Hamilton?
Predictable outcome is predictable
outcome? this inning’s never going to end and it’s not even the endgame.
All right, I’ll not waste an ounce more of my baseball energy on the Phillies.
That was their GM’s motto at the deadline, IIRC.
10 of our last 13 are against the Phillies and Rangers.
We probably won’t miss Hamels.
I wonder if the Rangers will starting the back half of their 40-man roster in those games in order to lock down the #1 pick.
Os aj Burnett any good?
No.
Phucking Phillies.
Let us marvel for a moment at the fact that Billy Beane got three solid to above average MLB-ready (basically) players for an expensive Trevor Cahill.
come on philly. make me care.
nope. and click.
