Today, I cut my mrs trebuchet’s sandwich into four pieces and picotrebuchet’s sandwich into two pieces. I am in a lot of trouble after work.
You are a failure of a human being. I mean seriously, WHO DOES THAT?!?
JP is extremely diligent about reminding me when a bite of anything is TOO BIG!
Papa! This is clearly more than a petit four!!
We should obviously make JP a guest judge.
I don’t see why mrs. trebuchet will be upset. You’ve just added a surprising note of civility into her workaday world.
Now picotrebuchet on the other hand…
So you turn Us vs Them to Everyone vs You.
But what shapes were the pieces? ‘Cause if you get that wrong …
6: Clearly all stadiums should be built to accommodate the maximum possible number of writers who would want seats in a World Series held there.
And should do it with the best real estate in the luxury box ring.
Bison vs bear
This. Is. Awesome.
Gentlemen prefer Rajai.
2. Really not. Actually the 4th, but they won one of them
May 6th, 13-12 vs Kansas City (Harrison 5.0IP/4ER, Nippert 0.1IP/5ER)
May 14th, 10-16 vs Toronto (Harden 2.2IP/7ER, Mathis 1.1IP/8ER)
Sept 4th, 4-12 vs Minnesota (Lewis 3.2IP/9ER, Harden 2.0IP/3ER)
Plus 4 more times in spring training (9-13 vs Anaheim, 2-12 vs Cleveland, 5-14 vs San Diego, 1-12 vs Cubs), which I presume Wash watched.
That’s genuinely surprising.
Yup … Texas poitching just ain’t what it used to be.
For comparison:
– the A’s gave up more than 10 runs 4 times, twice with Cahill starting.
– the Yankees only had 1 such game (Sabathia against Cleveland), but 6 games where they gave up exactly 10 runs, 3 of which were against Tampa Bay.
– the Rays had 8 such, 7 against divisional rivals (3 BOS, 2 TOR, 1 NYY, 1 BAL).
Little Englanders vs Moneyball
Prozone versus Anfield and the Premier-go-round.
ISWYDT.
A tangential point of interest is that many of the comments are (relatively) thoughtful and informed, and you don’t often see that on a public/news site.
2. Could also have been dubbed Robo versus Powerman and the Runners-go-round.
4. I don’t think DePo worked for Alderson in Oakland.
Nope – Alderson left for the Commissioner’s Office in 98 and DePo joined the A’s in 99. But why let the facts get in the way of a good story.
He’ll be played by John Goodman.
Who will be played by me.
You are entering a world of pain, Monkey.
And Sal as Steve Buscemi.
Sal, you’re out of your element!
2. Logic wins
Gammons: Sawx going hahd aftuh Crahfuhd, Yanks may get in on bidding
I think Acronym signing with the Yankees would be optimal, especially if we could pry Swisher back. (Said the former Swisher-h8r.)
Yanks are rumored to maybe shop Swisher for SP.
Gee. Oh. Whatever could one come up with?
I would be perfectly happy with that deal.
Gio would get totally Pavanoed.
The problem is it leaves a huge, gaping hole in the rotation. Maybe Gio stinks in 2011, but he definitely gave quality service in 2010 and the A’s are going to need similar IP next year if they want to contend.
Only if Swish grows the hair and the beard back. If he stays with the clean-cut Yankee look I want no part of him.
Us vs Them
WE need to get our butts out there and vote because THEY sure are.
Here are the early voting stats in my little county in Nevada, where Republicans are a majority, not just a plurality, of the active registered voters. Gross numbers aside, through
yesterdaytoday it shows that40%44% of the Republicans have already voted vs.32%36% of the Democrats (updated). An early indication that R vs. D turnout may well be the factor that ends Harry Reid’s career in the Senate.Howzabout we start a meme where GOPers are voting early to engage in VOTE FRAUD!!!1!
Howzabout all you slackers just vote.
This slacker mailed his ballot today.
Mailing mine tmw.
Good for one of you (so far).
I mailed mine a week ago.
Luddite that I am, I still enjoy the act of going to my local polling place and casting a ballot in the voting booth.
Fair enough (although my wife says that too and just didn’t vote last time).
That’s how I feel about it too, but when I lived in Rockridge I didn’t like having to wait in line for 15 minutes. One nice thing about living in a rural area: if you need to go to the courthouse there’s no parking hassle; you just pull up to the foot of the steps and park for free. I was down that way on Tuesday so I got the voting booth experience there, on my schedule (might be out of town for a couple days next week).
Me too! I love going to vote in the booth. Plus the biddies who run our station are a real crack up.
I have a very soft spot for Mike Leigh.
And for the promised off-season film discussions, High Hopes is one of my favorites.
Grant: awesome.
Great to see that he finagled tix.
MLBTR has an early release of the official Elias Rankings. Ellis ends up as a Type B FA.
That should pretty much eliminate any reason to let him walk, right?
I think it gives the A’s more reason to let him walk. No one was going to sign Ellis and give up a draft pick in the process. Now, maybe someone will be interested in offering a multi-year deal… earning the A’s a Sup 1 pick.
But I doubt it happens.
no self-respecting dodger fan would root for the gia — whaaaat?
I’m telling you–I’m starting to think Dodger fans are crazy. I’ve now discovered that I have two die-hard Dodger fan friends who are openly rooting for the Giants.
At this point, there is no acceptable conclusion for this mess of a match up. All I can hope for is that it goes 7 and each team loses their particular games in increasingly embarrassing ways: bad pitching, error-prone defense, baserunning disasters, closer meltdowns.
no self-respecting a’s fan would root for the rang — whaaaat?
Oh, please. Dogers/Giants is on par with Yankees/Red Sox and Cubs/Cardinals. Next tier would be Braves/Mets, Twins/White Sox, maybe a few others. A’s/Rangers doesn’t show up until past A’s/Angels; it’s more on par with the Cleveland/KC grudge matches.
My preference is for the Giants to win, for a few reasons:
1. Giants/A’s is not really a rivalry in the Cal/Stanford regional battle vein. It’s more like a friendly competition.
2. The less of a financial windfall for the Rangers, the better it is for the A’s. The last time a division rival won the WS and came under new ownership, we got the Moreno Angels — which has been an unmitigated disaster for Oakland.
3. I view the A’s and Giants as complementary goods and not substitute goods. That is, I think the A’s benefit by the Giants success, and vice versa, because it increases interest in Bay Area baseball in general.
Oh, I know — I agree with all that.
You, PT, and I are all on the same page.
re:1
1. The fact that the split SF/A’s abomination of a hat even exists tells you that this just isn’t a serious rivalry.
2. No murders or beatings in the Giants/A’s rivalry that I know of.
3. Not enough interest in baseball in general for it get that serious.
4. Most haunting memory of Giants/A’s rivalry in my life: when I was seven, I was over at my best friend David’s house to watch Game 2 of the WS. He was a Giants fan, I was an A’s fan. The A’s scored a bunch of runs early (I think Rickey had an RBI) and what happened? Did I taunt David? He try to tackle me? Did we fight? No. He ran to the TV, turned it off, started crying, and I had to call his mom into the room to make him feel better. I felt pretty bad for him.
4. You should have stepped on his neck
That only works
onfor women.Fixed.
And I
good company, there.
I disagree with (3). The more success the Giants have, the more marginalized the A’s will be by casual fans and the local press. And that can have longer-term repercussions than a rise in Rangers payroll due to increased revenue.
I think that’s reasonable, too. My feeling is based on opinion, so it very well could be wrong.
How much more marginal can the A’s get in the local media?
Also, come interleague next year it’ll be fun to be beating up the World Champions.
