No. Don’t like it.
50 innings is better than 0.
This tweet about a retiring staffer reminded me of the existence of the underground trolley system below Capitol Hill. It connects all the office buildings and the Capitol. Back in my HS/college days I spent full days riding that thing between various House and Senate committees on debate research missions. All of that shit was printed and free and I probably took several hundred pounds of it. Back then anyone could just walk into any of the buildings, grab the elevator to the basement, and ride the free trolley for miles. Had to give up your seat if any Reps/Sens wanted it. Also you could eat at the Congressional cafeterias and get haircuts at the barber shop. I doubt any of that is accessible to the public any more. Fun times.
It was riding that trolley that I got our in to the front row seats.
Hah, that’s awesome. Plate of shrimp.
you do a lot of acid back in the hippie days FSU?
You know how everybody’s into weirdness right now?
some lore relevant to this discussion.
it doesn’t unfold on you till you click the covers.
Pretty good performance from Mariota, until that nearly-killer interception.
And classic Chargers to needlessly take a sack on 3rd and short and then miss the long fg.
After watching the Raiders start QBs named Matt McGloin and Connor Cook in their last few playoff games I endorse paying for a quality backup. They won’t make the playoffs, but still
Mixed feelings. Would really have liked them to get into a playoff game, but that defense would never survive the postseason.
I am always interested in how certain teams can never seem to do certain things. The Defense here is one of the best examples. It doesnt matter the coach, the city, the owner, the scheme.
Can we make these state level crimes?
Best local college football team plays in game of the year tomorrow at 1:30. Go Spartans!
Chris Townsend is going to have quite the hangover in the morning. They could use a rushing game, but were pretty impressive otherwise. San Jose State was competitive in the 80s (they used to play both Cal and Stanford every year and held their own; looking it up they beat Cal 4/7 from 1981-1987) but they really fell off the map after that; I thought they were going to drop football entirely.
I hope they get a decent bowl game. A number of power-conference teams that are eligible for bowls have opted out so that ought to move the undefeated Mountain West champions up a few notches.
I hope they get a good power matchup to prove themselves too. Would suck to see them vs Coastal Carolina in the Undefeated and Undervalued Bowl.
Nope, they get Ball State in the Arizona Bowl. Yuck.
And get roundly stomped. Thus endeth the perfect season.
Maggie Haberman’s Twitter feed right now…no wonder Barr cleared out before the holidays.
Holy shit. That’s actual treason. Also Rudy wasn’t even one of the top three craziest people in the room.
Are there enough marginally sane Cabinet members left to use the 25th amendment?
New lows come everyday
Mark Meadows was the voice of reason in the room. That’s chilling.
Or not.
This is so horrible and it’s just going to get worse. At nearly every step the worst case scenario presents itself. The entire trajectory of this administration is an exponential curve into a nose dive. Today’s new low is two coups. I’m not sure I’m ready for what comes next.
Oh man, the Overstock.com guy who was schtupping Maria Butina was in this (4.5 hour!) meeting. What a rogue’s gallery.
the number. of people. who are willing to say they believe this.
shoot. but my cursor is already loaded.
it wouldn’t be seth w/o shade… 1/30974
…and a follow up. 2/30974
I muted that dude about four years ago. What a weird character.
my favorite moment was after the election. “i’ve been overwriting for 4 years but now that it’s not clear that i can continue, HERE’S MY PATREON.”
Last night’s quality control on this year’s 14% bourbon barrel aged Russian Imperial Stout went horribly wrong … I guess a pint glass was the wrong tool for the job.
gallon jug?
Funnel
You’re not helping.
Erlenmeyer flask? Centrifuge?
I have the former (5L to boot) but the latter would require a trip to the lab.
I am reliably informed it’s National Emo Day, which seems like a contradiction.
I’m sufficiently sports-desperate that I’m watching 49ers/Cowboys. Nick Mullins is a horrible QB.
Like Thursday’s Raiders game, this is another example of how a game between two mediocre but evenly-matched teams can be quite entertaining. Especially if you don’t have a strong rooting interest in either one.
Felt like that was every game this week except KC-NO. 2020 has conspired to make the quality of sports worse while simultaneously making it harder not to watch.
I guess hoping that both the Patriots and Tom Brady miss the playoffs was too much to ask.
The Trump Campaign filed a cert petition with SCOTUS today that:
-Challenges three decisions of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania that were handed down in October and November, yet asks for expedited briefing to finish on Christmas Eve because “if this matter is not timely resolved, not only Petitioner, but the Nation as a whole may suffer injury from the resulting confusion.”
-Cites as authority an article from the Epoch Times, the “United Nations Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation,” and a “summary of disputes arising out of six key swing states [] recently published by Peter Navarro, Director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy, in his personal capacity.”
Just amazing lawyering.
trump will never stop, but lawyer sanctions might?
John Roberts needs to write something a little more forceful this time. This shit is corrosive to the profession and to the federal courts he oversees.
Two more points of hilarity from this petition.
-This is an actual heading of a section of their argument: “The Court’s Intercession Is Necessary To Uphold The Rule of Law And To Put the Country at Ease, To The Extent Possible in these Tumultuous Times.”
-They argue that “Even the swearing in of the next President on January 20, 2021, will not moot this case.” So yeah, they are never going to stop filing these steaming word piles.
sanctions. need sanctions.
I generally don’t believe in custodial sanctions as a deterrent, but these are people that will be scared of jail.
Oh hey, the Coliseum’s ringcentralness is now actually and I guess retroactively official after the Authority signed a new contract on Friday that presumably did not include a finder’s fee for Scott McKibben.
That’s good because turns out the guy behind our old namesake has a seat at the wingnut coup plot meetings.
LOL, this amazingness hit us both at the same time.
OK well this story about a reporter who covered Martin Shkreli falling in love with him is insane and you should read the whole thing
It’s like she got sucked into an internet cult, but instead of QAnon it was by an evil charmless billionaire (who is absolutely going to screw her).
Bizarre that it’s both a story and a fashion shoot.
It is quite a read, but even though she clearly wants her story told, it seems cruel to do so.
this thread needs moar bottom-flap PJs.
Who’s got the hookup for Canha?
A well-planned play takes the record for the fastest ever goal in the top 5 European Leagues at 6s, but he does start his run before the kick-off is taken (freeze the video at 20s).
Milan in the early nineties, with Boban, Van Basten, Albertini… was one of my favorite teams ever. Nice to see them doing well again

Watch out for those divots I guess.
The reality is, it’s going to be tough to step on the clutch for a while.
I hope he turned off the RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl before he broke the other foot by kicking something. The Vinces’ defense is no match for BYU’s offense.
the k hive is big mad lee/bass did not get the senate.
Lee would be great, but she is a placeholder and has a lot of power in the house. I don’t know much about bass but there are a couple of things i would need clarity on before endorsing her
After Willie Brown said
Newsom should have appointed Ro Khanna.
Just got my first email hitting me up for a campaign contribution to Padilla.
It’s almost like he’s trolling Trump.
Am i going to have to go a full year without mocking him?
Maybe we’ve had it bass ackwards all along. Vince does wrap himself in the American flag a lot on the air but he is the liberal and Ken is the raging MAGA guy, the NRA member with a huge collection of assault weapons.
Korach can have side gigs on OANN for all I care, and Vince can run his local DSA chapter. Only one of them is pleasant to listen to.
Personal Warriors preview: I don’t know what to expect exactly, but it should at least be fun to watch Curry after his first real rest in forever. Successful season if they sneak into the playoffs, Wiseman looks like a future all star, and the T-Wolves 2021 draft pick conveys.
The uncertainty alone makes them 50% more watchable.
Not so watchable tonight.
He forgot to add “in” in front of “correctly”.
Hi Doc!
Hi Ed!
this is the best
He really vetoed the military funding bill over Confederate General base names. Amazing.
That and the refusal to use it to repeal of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.
Force an override vote and hang voting against the troops at Christmas around the Republicans’ necks.
After the last 4 years, I’m not so sure that this kind of thing (which is to say, anything) matters for many voters anymore.
Might matter for the actual troops and their families. Biden seemed to make some inroads with them.
geargia has a lot of troops, yeah?
You’re right that recent history suggests no action is so outrageous that it would drive voters (or most federal elected GOPers) to renounce Trump.
That said, between this, a possible stimulus veto, and January’s electoral vote floor challenge, not to mention pardons for himself and his kids and a truly despicable array of criminals, there is a non-zero chance that there might finally be a meaningful break. GOP senators are going to be forced into a reckoning, and folks like Mitch are smart enough to know that works best if they all do it at once.
Hmmm
gustavo’s the only one with a full understanding of this kristof thing:
WaPo too then!
Eh. This is an area where I have lots of practical experience (unlike most of the stuff I BS about) and that’s what we all call it.

A saddening and maddening read
The US was never deserving of the “moral leadership” we liked to claim for ourselves, but now we don’t even stand for basic human decency. Now the message to US troops and mercenaries that they’re beyond accountability. Despicable.
I got my tennis coach license this year and one of my students, and in the meanwhile pretty good friends, is an Iraqi girl who lived rather close to the shooting scene when it happened.
Not to mention the message to those citizens of other countries that Americans should be considered an enemy.
Makes you wonder if Bales is next
It looks like it’s going to be a long season for the Warriors
And with that I naturally meant that there will be a postseason
Heh. It’s been a fun season to watch them, it’s taken a while but it really does seem like they’ve come together and are playing by far their best ball going into the playins. Of course, they could still lose two this week and be out already, but I kind of don’t think they will.
Seeing 2020 out with an armed break-in.
No-one hurt and nothing taken, but a neighbor was shot at (fortunately not hit) while chasing the perp in his car and we need a new fence and basement door.
Yikes. Glad you are OK, but I’m sure it’s still scary.
And you should probably check that the kegerator down there is still in working order.
Happy to report the keezer is still working just fine.
FK! Glad nobody got hurt, but still. Scary
gah! glad you’re not hurt!
did you give him my card?
I went after him with it, but he ran off.
Very glad you’re ok but yikes!
OH my goodness. I’m so glad you’re ok. I walked in on an intruder in our house last year, but he didn’t see me. Thankfully he had closed a door in our dining room to keep Figgy out of his way, and the minute I saw that door closed (which I think has been closed about 10 times in the 17 years we’ve lived here,) I grabbed Figs and hightailed it right out of there.
That was unsettling, but I can’t imagine how scary if I’d come face to face and he’d have had a gun. So glad you’re all OK.
Follow up: a couple of nights later there was an attempt on a neighbor’s house, again they tried to kick the back door in, and again as soon as there was a response they fled.
Weird coda: another couple of days later neighbors started getting cold-called about selling their houses.
What a coincidence
My turn.
It looks like (well, sounds like) someone stole the catalytic converter from mrs. a’s Prius, parked in our driveway, last night (or some time since she last drove it).
FK … sorry to hear that.
That sucks. Apparently Prius’s are the model of choice these days. Floor jack, sawzall, done in under two minutes.
uhg, that sucks. that is very very common. I think there is something you can do to secure it. I think about doing that with mine, but since I have a garage, it’s a low priroity.
Ugh Sorry!
That sucks big time
consider getting a cat shield. a lot of times the theft is just springing a trap to get you to buy a new one and they come for that one too.
That happened to my former neighbor a few weeks back. They also have a Prius.
Meanwhile, in Spain, crime also rages
Somebody stole two Iberico hams with the street value of $800
The NY Post headline would be “Jamokes swipe Jamones”

I still have to get used to the Bills playing in prime time slots all the time
Fake crowd noise at Belicheat Stadium not only drowns out the announcers on my sound mix (ESPN should be able to fix that) but is apparently loud enough that Josh Allen was holding his helmet against his ears to hear the OC’s play call when the Bills were down inside the 10 yard line.
I haven’t watched that much NFL this year and don’t know that much about either the Bills or the Rams. I wonder, if all the NFL GMs were polled, how this would turn out: If you could sign either Jared Goff or Josh Allen to a 2021-2025 contract for the exact same amount of money, which would you pick?
Playing in prime time.
Winning in prime time.
Sweeping the pats.
Winning the division/hosting a playoff game.
Dare I hope for playoff wins?
Hoping your family and friends are safe, EC.
That sounds ominous – what’s happening in Stuttgart?
6.3 quake in Croatia.
Oof
Thanks, my family is mostly on the island and in the capital, so they are fine. I have friends in the area, and they are uninjured. That’s the best news, as some of them have lost their homes.
It’s been a shit year, with the third quake already. The first one was in March, not as strong (5.2) but very close to Zagreb. Nice thing in all of this is people coming together – there are hundreds of apartments that people rent in the winter on the coast being given for free, people going to Petrinja to help…
It keeps shaking, by the way. This morning there were three new ones, all about 4.7
