We already had an offseason once this year. Things weren’t smooth then, I don’t expect them to be smooth now.
In case you missed it, we are now all going to die

I am not usually like this, but I find myself rooting for at least some of these people to die. The blood of herman cain is not enough. It’s not n “I want to punch and kick them” thing, more like i want someone to learn a lesson and we are all out of ideas on how to teach this lesson.
Marcus has the feels. Does he take a QO to prove himself for $19M? do the A’s offer that knowing that he might take it?
I am currently on the phone with the sea captain. He is still my problem. Barr has not saved me yet
I haven’t really thought about all I would consider this offseason. But I think QOs for both Semien and Hendriks make sense regardless of whether the A’s can afford it. You can always trade them if they accept.
I wouldn’t be entirely against trading Bassitt, Manaea, or Canha if there is interest. Piscotty I would give away, but that’s probably unlikely. I would consider bringing back LaStella and Soria if the price makes sense. I would love Doolittle, but he may be too expensive. I’d look at Simmons to replace Semien.
And the real kicker, I’d kick the tires on Bauer. He wants a 1 year deal, and there’s no such thing as a bad one year deal. He gives the A’s exactly what they need and he hates the Astros. Past that, I need to research.
I am not interested in LaStella. his bat was neat, but not great. I don’t want to live with his defense. I would rather have pinder/machin semi platoon
Liking the idea of QO and trade? is there a prohibition against that?
Hendriks is getting what? 2019 off season 15AAVish? this offseason? with a QO? I really want him back. Or another closer.
2021 i think is the best year. Angels still have Pujols and upton. Adell hasn’t figured anything out. they need ss along with 3 starters and 3 bullpen arms
Astros are going to be good if urqidi and vasquez figure it out. They will sign Corea? Springer? and still have tucker and alverez
I think a proven SS is necessary to 1 help the team and 2 prevent the angels from plugging that hole. A QO and competitive offer on Marcus, or 3 years of simmons
Bassitt will have more value than Manaea or cahna, yeah?
Bassitt has to have more value than either of them and for me it would take a lot to move him. I want Liam back and I am more Bullish than you on LaStella. If we have 3 other very good defenders he works fine and his approach is something we just dont seem to get. It felt like we actually manufactured a run sometimes when he was there.
And love the Bauer idea though I’m sure ownership would explode doing it.
I hate to say I like the bauer idea, but if he wants a 1 year deal, then great. I bet he has a QO attatched.
Semien of Simmons would be good. Gregorious is a FA too, yeah?
That doesn’t sound like mark from health class. He was level headed.
This is by far the least depressed I’ve been the day after A’s elimination, ever. Partly it’s the odd pseudo-season, but mostly because they won some playoff games. Three! Most since Obama was a senator.
State senator, yeah? elected in 06
Elected ‘04. He was a candidate when he gave the ‘04 convention speech.
I stand corrected. Probably the same thing made me the last one to realize the Cole glasnow connection today. (as Austin meadows homers)
I felt a lot better when they lost yesterday than I had when it looked like it would happen the day before. After some self-reflection I decided that it was
1) Partly what you said: They won a series, didn’t get swept in the second round. The offense never quit, coming back in game 3 and even showing a lot of fight in game 4. It wasn’t the total playoff fail of the last two years.
2) But also: They didn’t make it too close either. They didn’t lose a heart-breaker because of a bad replay decision or a wide strike zone or the closer blowing a clinching game or someone deciding not to touch home plate. In light of how bad the pitching was, it felt a bit lucky to win 3 out of 7 games.
Uh…
Billy can finally live the dream as a full time soccer dilettante.
recent years? like since 2002?
That’s recent to me dammit!
I’m very on the fence about this. I get why there are a lot of people who want someone to come in and take us to the next level. But I keep thinking what if the next guy turns us into slegnA without the money or the M’s?
I also really didnt want to put too much stock into some WSJ article that quoted a lot of “sources close to the situation”. But if Slusser has it I wont argue that point.
I’m more worried about becoming the Pirates.
Interesting that according to Slusser’s sources, Beane “sold the bulk of his ownership share years ago and now holds just a 1% stake.” I wonder how much cash he pulled down and who picked up his shares.
Most likely the original deal that gave Billy an equity cut (was it 5%?) had a buy-back right of refusal for Fisher. Maybe also a formula for calculating its value? I’d sure love to know. Suffice it to say his water bills are covered.
Extended Ratto excerpts:
“This has always been Beane’s long-term plan, more than winning a World Series or showing his ass to all the people who mocked him when he was pretending to impersonate Brad Pitt. It was never about baseball…
He has also been hot for soccer since well before we discovered Rebecca Lowe. His most recent purchase, a five-percent stake in Dutch club AZ Alkmaar, added to his purchase of a piece of Barnsley FC in 2017. And now, as [hedge fund magnate hah hah] Cardinale’s right-handed reliever, he could reach enough heights to sit in Jürgen Klopp’s chair before and after games, batting the breeze and looking like the casual-dress version of Roman Abramovich.
It is, in short, way cooler to Beane to have a piece of Mo Salah than Marcus Semien. This is his true dream job, because he never really was a baseball lifer. It just took him half his life to get the opportunity to live his dream.”
Just read the thread. It’s astounding (skip the ‘we are done for the day!” recap)
the guy is just so unbelievably stupid
what if the second blue bubble said, “if it was yes, you’d say yes, so sounds like no. thank you.”? i’m not saying publish they didn’t say yes so it must be no. but reportes show such little guile in eliciting official responses they can use.
i know I KNOW it’s hard to go against 100 years of what reasonable journalism is, but goddammit, adjust course, journos. adjust course already.

(i, too, am giving in to the despair and manifesting it through anger and well-unwishing. and i’m finding a lot of that in my peers as we head into november. too bad november isn’t gonna be the moment of certitude we want it to be.)
w……tf?
may as well go all out
Yep
Also anyone else think his refusal to take a COVID test is about the Judiciary Cmte?
Yes.
it was killed when the CEO or owner or whatever of ocean spray did it.
it was born dead
It was a whole vibe though.
the pumpkin was the only good follow up.
vibes, and their checks, are also dead tho.
I was being yelled at by the sea captain and did not even know the video I posted was the juice thing. I did see the suburban swat team and was horrified. Now that I see what it is, I am env more horrified.
the ol’ “i didn’t read the article before posting BUT THE HEADLINE WAS BOMB” tradition.
I did better research than the AP
you write better too.
that headline literally tells me to hate a crime charge.
If I were running the A’s I would simply develop and acquire pitching like the Rays. Problem solved.
Hah hah hah fuck you Aroldis.
Crazy stat: he has given up 4 HRs in the last calendar year. Two ended NYY seasons.
Can we get fraiser for Manaea and kaprilian?
It’s reasonably probable that three major North american sports leagues will have a championf from mid florida
And a non zero chance of 4 if old man Brady figures out what down it is. (admittedly not much more than non zero..)
It’s 2020, HOU over LAD is virtually guaranteed, so next season is a run of “we didn’t need to cheat to beat them” b.s.
You think they’re not cheating this season?!
Hunter Renfroe is rocking some crazy high socks. Reminds me of cars with metallic paint that looks like different colors as it moves
Hunter Renfrow v. Hunter Renfroe is going to confuse me aslong as at least 1 of them is playing.
that game was more stressful and less of the beat down that i had hoped for
I was a bit surprised when Ron Darling diagnosed Altuve with “The Thing” (Sax-Knoblauch-Profar) after the second error. Seemed like jumping to an awfully quick conclusion, but having read Darling’s book a couple months ago I guess I’m not that surprised; he does run his mouth a bit. Anyway Altuve made a good throw on Wendle’s grounder there so I’m not seeing much smoke.
I’d be fine with him speaking that into existence.
By the way the book was worthwhile if for nothing else than the story about Craig Paquette’s piña colada. I did think Ron said a little too much about a few things.
I have noticed bad throws from him. I don’t know what it means and it certainly not rigorous study.
Anyway, the throe that led to runs was catchable.
Altuve Thing confirmed
today’s also catchable
My tinfoil hat is telling me they had something still set up in the visiting dugout at Dodger Stadium.
Yep, that’s Treinen alright.
2019 trienen was never far
sigh
There are fans closer to the field than I expected.
For the record, when Trump said he’d give the guys big fat wet kisses Matt Gaetz was right there in the front row.
Trump pushed through the Roid Rage and found the elusive state of Roid Horny.
Maybe Gaetz should have declined that big wet kiss.
Can i go to supreme court nominee law school so i can decline to answer any question I deem “hypothetical?”
It’s a pretty neat trick that Republican judicial nominees figured out a while back.
Any question about an actual current case, they can’t answer because they might have to rule on it later.
Any question not about an actual current case, they can’t answer because it’s hypothetical.
The most chilling answer I have heard was the “I need to talk to my clerks.” Her clerks are exclusively Fed society. Young true believer blue bloods
That’s not fair. Not all of them are true believers. Some of them are cynical hacks!
It’s become a ludicrous situation, evaluating a potential lifetime appointee without discussing how she would rule or might rule. Picking random people off the street for SCOTUS would be equally informative (and quite possibly more just). I’m definitely on board for court packing, and for that matter a whole new constitutional convention to rid us of the electoral college, clarify succession, and strengthen separation of powers. Among many other places where today’s extreme politics have shone a light on many insufficiencies of our supposedly strong form of government.
The sheer number of lies is what gets me.
al franken has a podcast and his episode 2 days ago was what-i-would-be-asking, which was great at laying out precedent, asking if anything has changed since, and pointing out (without asking) that since nothing’s changed that it’s reasonable to expect the same in the future. and his hypothetical is a doozy.
he should run again.
nobody told me WC qualifiers were on.
Whoa, me neither. They on the TV somewhere?
i don’t know (yet)!
there’s a not-cheap pay per view option being fed to my queries.
beIN has 1 game today (nearly over, not exciting).
this is the web option if you’re in argentina and usually works here, but sometimes you have to VPN yourself to the southern cone:
https://futbolparatodos.net/webmasters/
there is a brazil peru game still today. but probably the better game will be colombia chile, also today.
portugal plays tomorrow but goddammit* ronaldo tested positive.
*i mean it.
How is that possible? he is always so careful about personal interactions
first known case of self-infection.
couldn’t keep himself 2 metros from the mirror. grrrrrr.
unclear, but i think you can get a red for not wearing your mask on the bench?
Damn the Rays are flashing some fine leather tonight.
Speaking of, since when did Joey Wendle become an “elite” MLB third-baseman?
I am happy that the A’s outscored the rays so far.
Hmmm I think I’ll save the rest of today’s baseball-watching energy for Rays-Astros.
The Dodgers appear motivated.
They are acting presidential
+13 seems like an outlier. If you look at the crosstabs, they oversampled Seagers. This is sure to tighten once Republican batters come home to the Braves. Oh, you trust Dodgers playoff scores? How’d that work out for you last season? Etc.
Speaking of one-termers, the order for the upcoming (I hope) Kauai beach reading was just placed.
Ooh, nice. I’ve still been working my way through the Nixonlandverse with The Invisible Bridge. Haven’t gotten to the Jimmy parts yet.
Browsing in the library today I saw Perlstein’s Reaganland on the New Arrivals shelf. I thought about it and flipped through it for a minute, but I couldn’t read that and the Carter biography back to back. I have to go back to Teddy Roosevelt or somebody like that in between.
Also on the subject of one-termers, I’ve been thinking back to 1992, when every poll showed Bush was toast, but I still didn’t really believe he’d lose because the Republicans had won every election since I was an infant.
This time it only took one flukey loss for millions of people to feel that way despite the data being far more overwhelming. And I totally get it — the loss was shocking and led to a complete nightmare — but I’m just in a different place with this.
If Trump gets credit for making college football happen, does he also get blame if he kills Nick Saban? Though it might help him with the Georgia vote.
Speaking of waving the white flag, Pablo Sandoval is now playing first base.
Wake me up when he’s pitching.
The TBS crew going deep into their cliche reservoir to describe Altuve and Dusty.
ayfkm
The republican’s were really playing the long game with Dan White
Maybe he’ll give her covid?
That’s what I thought–even beyond being horrifying politics, the man probably has covid!!
It is not even close to as dark as I thought
I hate DiFi so much. I wrote her a letter in the late 90s that was so vitriolic I worried later it might have gotten me on a list. I don’t even remember the issue, some appeasing sellout or another, there have just been so fucking many. A California elected has no need to give so much away to the right, I resent that way more than any Lieberman or Manchin or Dixiecrat who must.
Sac Bee:
Good God Feinstein what are you doing???
Don’t blame me, I voted for kodos
Ugh.
And all so avoidable.
I saw some wag point out the the average age of Democratic leadership today is higher than the Politburo of the 1970s-80s.
It is so maddening that she is so tied to Milk. He did not like her, the only reason she was positively connected to him is she was the first elected to get to him and the fact she was to become mayor.
The botching of the Blasey-Ford situation was more damaging and damning than the Comey-barrett hearing.
how did she become mayor anyway?
someone once told me it was sorta illegitimate, 3-card monte or something. i never looked it up.
By ordinance the president of the board of supes is next in line. She was that. Just like when Ed Lee Died
How she became president I don’t remember the details, but it was political trading I think and harvey milk voted against her.
President of the supes is next in line as acting mayor initially, but then the supes elect an actual acting mayor until the special election. Remember the cluster that resulted in Breed being acting mayor, and then not when the board blocked her, and then winning the special. Feinstein took over on Moscone’s death then carried the board vote ahead of being elected.
right, She was mayor for a bit then Peskin thought she would lose if she wasn’t mayor
i see. ‘ticians gonna ‘tician.
I mean, the bottom never comes
Holy shit
Yea, though I walk through the ballpark of the shadows of death, I will fear no Astros, for the Rays art with me; their gloves and their pitching staff, they comfort me.
LOL Feinstein’s mailbox is full in both CA and DC offices.
Two Altuve TOOTBLANs today.
Is there a correlation of TOOTBLANS and Steve Sax Disease? Maybe he sees everything a LOT closer than they really are.
And now a caught stealing. There’s something to this.
Josh James is my favorite *
Aug 7 HOU @ OAK L,2-3 7-7 BS(1) 4 1.0 2 1 1 0 1 1
Sep 9 HOU @ OAK L,2-3 7-7 BS(2) 19 0.2 1 1 1 2 1 0
Oct 7 HOU OAK L,7-9 6-7 BS(1) 99 1.0 3 3 3 1 0 1
Yuck, that FKing sucked.
This is some bullshit. Fuck that guy. Come on, karmic comeuppance, WTF?
Seriously, I so wished I believed in it but if I did this could cure me.
In the other series, I find myself rooting for the Braves because some of their young hitters are really fun to watch. And up until now we haven’t been hearing the war chant or whatever the fk they call it but with fans in the stands (Eek!) or a different PA system operator we’re starting to get it in this series and it makes me want to puke.
I did the obvious search for that “Wilson Wilson Wilson” mask Bryse’s mother is wearing tonight on Phish-related web sites but I couldn’t find a mask like that one.
“gales of creative destruction” is a great epitaph for this era
Gales of creative destruction: Is that what Kudlow and pals at Bear Sterns called it in 2008?
That’ll win votes in Louisiana.
I think it’s an obscure Pixies b-side.
And I just saw a Biden ad with “Where Is My Mind” playing in it. I apologize, Mr Francis.
i don’t think pro trumpers are gonna hear that the same way as intended.
me? i woulda gone with “i’m a real left winger ’cause i’ve been down south and held peasants in my arms. i’m a humble guy, with healthy desires! so don’t gimme no shit because…”
——
but what do i know? like, i would not have used yma sumac for iphone.
Thank you. While composing an “Amy Camus” joke in my head, I realized the internet has probably investigated whether or not Yma Sumac was a real person or a brill building made up story like the strangeloves.
So today, i finally put to rest the rumor I heard 30 years ago that she was from New york.
oh wow. i never heard that one.
she’s fake as fuck, for sure. but like other flakes, an actual factual peruvian.
I think it was an “old guy*” that came into one of my record stores in the 90s that made the comment. I certainly never went to the card catalog to research it, or did anything further than read liner notes to look for clues. but I loved the Amy Camus/Yma Sumac angle.
*he was probably 45
Nope
still eve
Astros beating the rays will make me feel better about my team, but not life in general.
The Rays smell so much like every A’s postseason team in this century. Go all the way, wear your special green and gold alternates tomorrow.
The A’s haven’t remotedly sniffed a Game 7 during David Forst’s entire lifetime.
Amazing.
where is this from? I’ve been off twitter for about 2 weeks (read: from last night at 11 to 4 pm today) I thought the NYpost story was all made up and now I see this quote
Seems like the likeliest explanation is that Russian intelligence hacked Hunter Biden somehow (maybe his iCloud), put a bunch of fake stuff in with some real stuff, and then gave it to Giuliani who is laundering it through the Post using that bullshit laptop repair shop story.
Either way, the Glenn Greenwalds and Matt Taibbis of the world think it is awesome journalism.
That makes sense, I guess. Now can you tell me why JFK jr. is being talked about?
because he lives, ed.
Tomorrow could be a pretty damn good day of baseball. By pandemic standards I’m pretty stoked.
Joe Thornton is the best Sharks player ever, their “Ernie Banks, only his most famous quote was not “Let’s play two,” but, “I’d have my cock out if I scored four goals.“”
Now he’s off to Toronto to add his zero Cups in 22 seasons to the Maple Leafs 0-fer-53 years streak. I’ll be rooting for them. Jo
The headline is the elite starting lineup of all-time players from Oakland, but I’m almost as impressed by the deep bench. Our town can kick your town’s ass.
I surprised myself by how hard I rooted for the Dodgers last night. It really annoyed the people sitting next to me watching Hamilton.
1) Rooting for an Astros-Dodgers rematch? (I hope the Rays deal with that tonight.)
2) The Chop sucks, but enough to make you root hard for LA, really?
3) Still pissed that Billy got fleeced so horribly on the Tim Hudson trade?
I’ve always been positively disposed toward the Dodgers. Among my four favorite NL teams, with the Phillies, Brewers and Padres. Good ballpark, sharp uniforms, fans not especially evil.
There’s a certain enemy-of-my-enemies thing there too.
I don’t like the expression in xBA. This ball is an out 9 of 10 times. I understand this launch angle and exit velocity are good and should be praised, but xBA does not always match game theory. I don’t know how to fix it, but I have to remember to think before thinking a number is neat.
trienen to lower his asking price on the FA market
Games 7s for all my friends!
young man like you. drunk every day by noon. y’oughta get yerself a JOB!
Ugh, Acuña on deck as the tying run in Game 6 but Pablo Sandoval is the guy who’s up there making the final out.
I’m amused that Fox sends Joe Buck off to Tampa for Rodgers vs. Brady tomorrow. Yeah MLB, you’re nice and all, but Game 7 or not, the NFL butters our bread.
Another Fox comment: there have been a few attempts to drop a full-screen 30 second commercial into the middle of an inning. That’s not a good trend.
That’s why pedro baez has a job. to stretch for commercials.
I though his sound engineering was the worst I heard all season
So I’m thinking “Astros lead by 3 going to the bottom of the 9th and Joey Wendle hits a walk-off grand slam” would MAKE.IT.RAIN. on Draft Kings.
Kiermaier taking his gum wad from his mouth and chucking it onto the warning track doesn’t seem very COVID-aware.
Actually this may finally explain why MLB has the first five rows of seats off the field empty.
I wondered how they were ever going to enforce a No Spitting rule and it looked to me like that one got dropped real fast.
McCullers’ first pitch hits the leadoff man, that’s the sign. Press your bets!
Ji-Man Choi is only 29 so he could still be the Second Coming of the Holy Grail. That’s definitely the first thing I think of when I look at him.
Durazo with the A’s (1390 PA): .283/.375/.462
Choi with the Rays (821 PA): .257/.359/.461
Durazo did establish his Grail credentials with higher OBP and SLG than that with the Diamondbacks (.278/.390/.528).
If tonight is it for the Astros, Altuve needs to take maybe a week off and then start seeing a hypnotist. If he just hopes that goes away over the winter he’s got a problem when he shows up at spring training.
Also if Sean Murphy is Johnny Bench then Mike Zunino is Yogi Berra.
In all the stories I remember about guys getting the yips they never recover.
Steve Sax had it early in his career with the Dodgers and was never a Gold Glover but he did later start every day at 2B with the Dodgers and Yankees without making many errors.
I was at a short-season league game in Eugene in 2015. Tyler Matzek had started the season with the Rockies but couldn’t find the plate, was sent all the way down to the bottom to their Boise team in the Northwest League, and on this particular night he fell apart completely, I mean couldn’t come within 3 feet of the strike zone. With all the stupid minor league PA sound effects with the taunting type stuff I felt awful for him. He has wandered through the minors for the last few years, including some independent ball, but he has pitched in this NLCS for the Braves.
I went looking for the Matzek game and it’s this one, in the bottom of the 7th inning. He walks the first batter on 4 pitches, then somehow strikes out the next one on 3 pitches. After that it’s an HBP on the first pitch, followed by 4 straight walks on 16 pitches. So 24 pitches, 3 strikes, as ugly as it gets. Edit: Oh, I see it’s like spring training where they aren’t actually keeping the entire pitch count on Gameday, but that’s very close to what did happen.
I think there is a 30 for 30 on macky sasser.
Honestly though I think altuve has an arm injury. He doesn’t have the zip on the throws.
I mentioned Darling’s book above and Ron’s comments about Sasser were one of the things that had me thinking “dude, back off a little here”.
That’s a nice 270 right field foul flyout to the shortstop
Of course Carolina waited for this year ever to field their best football team in 20 years. But in a return to normalcy they are in full spectacular collapse mode in Tallahassee.
It’s clearly me. Just turned the game on to keep me company while I did some work.
I’m turning it off. Let’s find some old music to listen to instead.
YOURE WELCOME WORLD!
reddick can’t k to end his playoffs but he can GIDP
Oh thank Baal.
And there go the Astros, with one final sad bang on a trash can.
Chad Pinder can’t be the World Series MVP but perhaps there’s space for Elite Third Baseman Joey Wendle.
21st century Scot Brosius.
I am greatly relieved.
I think I will enjoy this series.
I have a friend who is a rays fan, so that’s nice for her. My whole family are dodger fans.
If it’s those two, I will have too see who I am rooting for. It usually happens organically as the series wears on.
fuck the braves, tho
Meet our new coach
Tam High alum! I was hoping to run into him around Cincinnati at some point, but he got canned pretty fast after I moved here.
Note: this is not an endorsement of the A’s hiring Price
The second most famous alum of my high school, after keystroke-farming billionaire nevermoor!
For a series that’s gone the full seven, almost none of these NLCS games have been played closely. Even the one run game was 7-0 halfway through.
We need a muncy v wendle cagematch
And it’s on! Though I confess I felt a pang of regret just now on seeing Sal Fasano in the ATL dugout.
Bob Geren was getting big hugs.
This one is pretty good so far.
Muncy did not need to get so much of d’Arnaud on that slide though.
Yeah Muncy’s lucky he didn’t get hurt, shinguards are hard.
Was rooting like hell for a walk to Pollock so we would have Matzek vs. Pederson with the bases loaded…but it didn’t happen.
Walked a couple of guys, then left an 0-2 pitch over the middle. Reminded me of our pitchers last week.
Now they need Treinen to not suck.
wild pitch is very 2019 treinen
Induced the GIDTOOTBLAN though.
That was preposterous.
Things That Can’t Happen In Game 7 for $600 please, Alex.
Going through the game summaries on B/R. that never happened in the close games that the Royals lost. Lots of caught stealing and Hal MCRae was out trying for a hustle double, and he did go forst to third on a ground out successfully. But Bill james, is s suspect story teller
If you split him in half he’d be two fabulists.
It has been a long time since I rooted harder for a non-A’s player than I rooted for Tyler Matzek in that inning. That night in 2015 was that memorable; you can’t get much deeper in the latrine than that.
That is a sweet redemptive moment and I too am happy for him. The other ATL pitchers can now resume allowing runs.
Looking at those blimp shots with the three stadiums I can’t imagine why they want to spend the money to maintain the Rangers’ former stadium. Just bulldoze it please.
it’s for middle school football now or something
Kiké Hernandez is excited!
I cringe every time I see his name written like this
I added the e accent grave html, about the best I can do. His own Twitter handle is @kikehndz (which, side note, Google does not like searching for). Or was the problem with the missing accent in Hernández?
it’s just the first name for me.
s/b quique, from enrique.
but i guess he wanted to go with US cool spelling? (think jhonny) so he changed to Ks. and then maybe someone told him, wait, that looks like a slur. so let’s add accents!
except he put it on the wrong letter. kíke would be the right sound. kiké translates roughly to key-WHAT?
What AV said. Of note, he never puts the accent on it himself, he goes with kool kids “Kike”. So, most networks put an accent on it, to be different from the slur. The one on the “i”, while unnecessary, wouldn’t change the pronunciation, the one on “e” does.
Kind of funny that with the short season and expanded playoffs, it ends up being the two #1 seeds. Should be a good series.
I don’t know…gut feeling here is the Muncys over the Wendles in a sweep.
The muncys are formidable, but i think the wendles have enough to give the trouble.
The stadium is going to be the downfall of the wendles. I don’t think they are built for that home run depressing environment.
I say Muncys in fewer than 7
Yeah, and the first time in recent memory when the least objectionable teams (to me) actually made it. Like Ed I probably won’t know who I’m rooting for until Game 1 starts Tuesday.
Local allegiance has somewhat set who I am rooting for, but it wont be a very strong rooting interest. I actually will be happy seeing 4-7more games of good baseball.
Part of me thinks Trump is going to actively try to make the virus situation worse during the transition just out of spite for the country that hates him. The rest of me thinks he’s already doing that so what’s the difference.
Depends on the turnout he gets at his post-election rallies.
First Trump statement that he’s running in 2024: November 4, 2020?
No, not until after the Supreme Court upholds the validity of Biden’s election by a 5-4 vote.
I thought he’d already announced plans for his 3rd term?
Slusser details the A’s front office changes heading into 2021. Highlights include:
* The Angels are interested in Billy Owens for GM.
* They’ve cut the guys who signed Blake Treinen and Kyler Murray.
* Overall around 10% reduction in staff, less than many teams.
* Not even death (of his playing career) can keep Adam Rosales far from an A’s roster spot.
* Hiram Bocachica let go.
The A’s love new ballparks so the move out of Beloit is a little bit of a surprise. After years of playing in one of those long-outdated parks in front of very few fans, the Snappers are getting a snazzy new park near downtown along the river in 2021. As to Vancouver, that confirms that the Northwest League is going from short-season to full-season as part of the downsizing and realignment.

Bay Area Mashers, the local homebrewers club I belong to, is supporting the Black is Beautiful brewing fundraiser in support of UnCommon Law.
Members of the club will brew a beer on the theme of Black is Beautiful for our Style of the Quarter competition. As an added celebration of the diversity within Blackness, this beer can be anything from a Russian Imperial Stout to a Black Lager just as long as it is black (SRM > 40 for you beer nerds).
Both the entry fee and the prize money will be added to a donation to UnCommon Law, along with any funds raised by the brewers – for example from their friends sponsoring their entry, which is where you come in.
If you would like to sponsor my entry, a bourbon-barrel aged Russian Imperial Stout, please send a donation of any size to my PayPal account with the tag Black is Beautiful.
Many thanks.
Thanks all for the donations – we raised $1000 for Uncommon Law.
And BiB made it to the South Pole:
Still can’t sort the sizing … style=”width:200px” doesn’t seem to do the trick
Doesn’t matter, worth seeing this big-scale. Well done, all!
Enjoying the Trumpy replies to this statement.
I wont dare wade into those replies. And while I don’t have a problem with this, is there some specific reason they are doing this that I am not thinking of? Other than sucking up to get HT fast tracked I guess..
Newsom just announced the plan to let sports teams have fans at 25% capacity.

50,000×0.25 is what?
A typical Friday night crowd
It would be pretty cool to see an exactly distant sellout crowd, equally scattered, from section 300 to 333 and down.
This Dodgers lineup is very white.
