I confess that I think Dodger blue is beautiful.
We’ve not done so great against National League teams this year, discounting the AAA team across the bay.
Every series thread I’ve put up this year so far has been a sweep, one way or another.
"Kraut will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no kraut."
I don’t think Grossman would ever hit a home run like that again.
Only on oppo taco tuesday.
next stop, guac town!
I’m hoping for oppo fish taco tuesday in a few weeks.
You two are making me laugh.
Dustin May is a funny looking dude. More than most people even.
Almost Weird Al-level funny looking.
I don’t know why Montas is so reluctant to use his splitter this year. That’s two straight hits on 2 strike counts – Betts on a slider and Seager on a fastball. Has he forgotten that he used to suck without the splitter?
Edit: And Muncy strikes out on a splitter. Too bad it took a run for him to figure it out.
I wonder if he’s lost the touch a bit, per Glen lefties have been tagging him hard on non-fastballs.
Yeah, he’s not throwing it enough and the ones he throws haven’t been great (like the one Bellinger hit a double off of) which further leads to not throwing it. I dunno if you can trust him in a playoff start right now.
Good to get the bad defense because of the light out of the way before th ALDS
Was gonna call charlie steiner a little racist, but then I remembered he is calling the game from home, so mixing up kemp and senien is excusable
Also he told Trump to his face to go fuck himself.
That’s great. Has a good banter with the assuredly Maga Monday
Not one of my favorite Bangles singles.
They have a very low-key broadcast. It’s throwback to 30 or 40 years ago. Offensive statistics are AVG, HR, RBI and there’s not a lot of (any?) reference to launch angles, exit velocities and spin rates. It can come off as a little bit low-energy but I tend to think that’s more because there’s no screaming, which we’re so used to on a lot of baseball on the radio.
They are also very good at sticking to the subject. If Fosse were ever to guest in their booth and started into his Roseanne Roseannadanna crap he might go flying out the front of the booth headfirst.
That was by far the fastest replay overturn I’ve seen. Yay
Rick monday called it before the umpires conferred
Baseball should have long since cancelled Tommy Lasorda. So enough, NBCCA.
rick monday said these uniforms weren’t kelly. Also said he was horrified when Charlie sent him on Oakland/east bay rubber chicken circuit in advance of the A’s coming to oakland and made him wear white shoes. Didn’t know the white cleats were coming.
Also boring game is boring
Monday is recycling his material. He told that same white shoes story when we played them in the Cactus League this year.
Looks like three Dodgers are wearing white shoes tonight (Urias, Turner, Hernandez). That must have Rick’s blood boiling.
I don’t know if it was covered in the A’s broadcast, but Andrelton Simmons bounced last night. Steiner and Monday made it sound more Cespedes like than the news articles I see.
When you are doing it like 6 days before the end of the season I dont believe it is because of your abundance of caution. It was you saying Deuces and starting vacation early.
This was him not wanting to move into a hotel for a week when the Angels are dead in the water.
Slusser on the first round rotation:
I dont disagree with this, but Fiers is like “can I maybe throw out the 1st pitch or something?”
I still don’t get why they aren’t starting Bassitt and Luzardo on regular rest now, lining them up for the first two games on one extra day’s rest.
It’s a great question.
FWIW the *s have Grienke going tonight, and the Clevelands have Bieber.
It’s a little odd. Maybe SuSlu’s guess is off and Fiers is still being considered for game 2?
Manaea is so streaky. 4-5 bad starts, then 4 good ones. Next outcome tends to resemble the previous outcome. He was bad last time out and if he’s iffy today call me worried about his next turn.
Jake Lamb, cleanup hitter, which we might see when the A’s visit Camelback Ranch to play the Dodgers a couple days before the A’s head up to Oakland for the Bay Bridge Series. Which is about what this game feels like.
So far I like this new “we look good they look like crap” style of play.
It seems like they play “The Fishin’ Hole” whenever Taylor makes a play.
A couple years ago Khris puts either of those two fastballs from Urias in the right-center field seats. Now he swings right through them.
I think if this was part of the best of 3, you’d seriously consider taking Manaea out right about now with 4 IP complete and the order coming up for the 3rd time.
Realizing that if Manaea starts game 1, so does Heim.
Yeah I really don’t like that. Murphy is leading the team in wRC+.
Phew.
That’s OK Jake. Better to give one up before the postseason.
Yeah, (I ain’t superstitious, but) that’s what I was thinking.
Once he got compared to Ryan Cook and Jim Corsi, Diekman was doomed.
Ramon!
Ramon! Crushed it! Tough pitch too.
Seriously, it’s amazing he got the barrel on that pitch and kept it fair.
Let’s fking go!
Was that an earthquake? No, it’s Ramon.
did you get the tee vee on this series?
no. I’ve never been able to figure out why it wont work on my old laptop. And work is so busy this week it is probably for the best.
Excellent. A’s played great tonight.
Meaningful or not, it’s nice to see them play well against one of the rare good teams on the schedule.
Not sure why she thinks this is COVID-related but something weird is happening.
Gabe Kapler is so bad. Played the infield in with runners on the corners and one out in the top of the 11th (Cahill on the mound) rather than try to turn two. Batter hit a sac fly so it was moot, but still. Then, down a run in the bottom of the inning, bunted the runner over to play for the tie. Walk, then double play to end the game.
Sac bunting while down a run seems suboptimal.
I barely follow the NL, wasn’t Kapler supposed to be a metrics guy? I thought that’s why they ran him outta Philly.
He is supposed to be, and even sounds pretty smart in interviews. But he does not seem to make very good moves in practice. I have a vague memory of his Phillies tenure starting with a string of disastrous moves, maybe something with the bullpen similar to what happened with Gott against the A’s this year.
I think he went out to make a pitching change when he hadn’t warmed anyone up.
Game 1 he took his starter out after 68 pitches, 3 hits, 0 run. The bullpen allowed the runner on base to score and then 7 more runs.
Game 3 he called for the reliever who wasn’t warmed up.
Starting to think it could be the White Sox coming to Oakland.
is gio gonzalez still on the team? He should start because of gritty veteranyness
Also, lefties v white sox is bad
Brodie Brazil is interviewing the Dodgers organist, Dieter Ruhle, who dropped a few bars of The Autumn Wind during last night’s game. Best stadium organ around in my book.
“We didn’t start the Fiers”?
Fire is a wonderful musical vein to mine, he’ll be disappointed when Fiers only goes 3+.

OK FINE BILLY JOEL SHEESH.
Also the Arthur Brown original version that Lizzy was covering
erased it because andeux ˆ got it already.
Read the thread, colin
I follow a lot of anti SF faux-gressives that like to take digs at Peskin and dean preston and the very confused can’t we all get along matt Haney (who’s sister is kinda a friend, but she went to teach kim kardashian to be a lawyer?). Anyway this made me laugh
I assume Buehler’s on a pitch limit, I hope?
yes
Tough luck run on some bad contact off Fiers. Not sure we can match it though.
Laureano is fifth among major league hitters in WPA, mainly by virtue of being first (by a large margin) in clutch.
That was a snazzy high fastball K for Fiers to end the 4th. I’d be OK with someone else vs Betts in 5th though.
decent enough performance. It doesn’t really matter, give him another shot at the top players
There we go.
It’s really starting to feel like Fiers is the potential game 2 starter with Luzardo to follow.
Manaea and Fiers, the two guys we all wanted to boot out of the rotation a month ago.
I really don’t want this, but with Frankie’s meltdowns and Luzardo’s inconsistencies (seriously wtf is happening right now), I don’t know if there is a clear right option at this point other than Bassitt.
I was still saying Luzardo, Bassitt, Montas a couple days ago, but yeah, the pitchers with the best stuff seem to be the worst at actually getting people out, so it just depends on what kind of gamble you want to take.
Hope it goes better than this.
it will, its nice to face good batters instead of practicing on the rangers then being all “wha happen??” when the white sox show up
I like this plan OK, it accommodates a strong Fiers start or a crappy one.
Biggest mistake right now would be sitting Murphy during Manaea’s playoff game.
2-4 against actual good teams.
Baseball playoffs and all, but it is almost unthinkable to me that the Dodgers don’t at least make the World Series.
Pretty righteous Ann Killion burn on the Pac-10+2:
Another potential option
my god
Well, now that rec sports are dead I have no use for my cup, so…
Yikes.
I wasted some money on masks but finally settled on these for everyday use. Maybe a half dozen people have gotten the reference and complimented me on my choice.
My Phishhead sister-in-law wears those.
You play manager, leave him in?
In Little League I caught a no-hitter which my team won 13-10. The 10 runs they got all came in one inning on walks, wild pitches, and errors.
JV high school our pitcher pitched a no hitter and nobody including the coach realized until he was doing totals the next day (his scorecard was an index card he tucked in his hat. very small and intricate
