Now that we aren’t playing Houston the future seems bright again. A deep playoff run and many big contract acquisitions are surely imminent.
Anderson
Mengden
Homer
Fiers
vs the Galloless Rangers who are 1-5 on their current road trip.
"Kraut will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no kraut."
Also a three run first inning. All signs point to yes!
Nice to see KD really drive a ball the other way. Seems like a good sign.
beat me to it by a couple of minutes.
You’re also the highly suggestible type?
I’m listening to the Vince and Eno Analytics Show. It’s kind of fun.
Vince has already uttered the word “analytics” approximately 724 times.
Earlier Dallas was praising Gallo’s huge BABIP like it was a great feat.
how do you do that?
The “A’s Cast” channel on Tune In radio (phone app, or on a streaming device). It only works if you are in the greater Bay Area/Sacramento area.
Looks like you can stream it here.
its really hard to sync this to the tv stream im using.
Dallas keeps saying that Brett used to throw 100… I just really don’t remember that.
Fatherhood seems to agree with Brett.
it surprising how disparate the results of Cahill and Anderson have been this year
This umpire has no clue what the strike zone is.
very true
Vince: Brett Anderson is on pace to match his career high in innings
Forst: “There’s not enough wood in here to knock on when you’re talking about Brett.”
Get it the fk together Brett
He was doing so well
My analysis: this sucks
I did not expect Goggly Joe to still be pitching in the 6th. Much less winning.
Why would you not toss the mask there?
And now that we need Nick Martini again he’s gone.
Pitching might help solve Profar’s throwing issues.
I don’t recall seeing a two-base defensive indifference before
Royals had the bases loaded with no outs down 2 in the 14th. Then proceeded to do nothing against a whole bunch of AJ Cole hanging sliders.
@fsu the two base defensive players ndifference was worth the price of admission
I’m sure the Angels fans felt the same way about seeing the first position player ever to record a save.
Saves are a silly stat and didn’t exist for first 75 years of MLB but nevertheless I find this really cool!
Did you see the video? His pitches weren’t even batting practice fast. They were like the coach-pitch little league level after the 8 year olds have just left tee ball.
Yeah, batting practice fast also includes being pretty straight, but those had quite the hump on them because they were so slow. Seeing a hapless Pujols pop out to end the game was delightful!
As of 6am we’re an official DOE project, with $400M earmarked for construction!
6 years work successfully coming to fruition feels good … and now the real work starts.
Can I have $5?
$10 with escalation, overhead, and contingency.
Congrats! Don’t pull an Anderson and trip off the mound and hurt yourself.
The bad news is the project has been repurposed to wall-building.
it’s just a rumour that was spread around town
by the women and children
We could be diving for pearls.
you are though! congratulations.
thanks, rather?
Congrats Julian, well deserved.
General admission Mt. Davis tickets now on sale for the 8/24 game against the Giants.
How much longer are they going to be trotting out this version of KD?
No way he isn’t hurt; that second AB was an embarrassment.
It really reminds me of second half 2014 Brandon Moss. And it wouldn’t surprise me if it comes out that he needs some kind of surgery just like Moss did because of stubbornly playing through an ailment.
Its making the extension look like an unwise choice for sure.
The extension was fine, the playing through a hip injury was not.
Well, the extension would be dumb if this is how you’re going to handle him when he’s injured. I feel like this team spends money and then thinks it’s in their best interest to push them through an injury rather than let them heal and maximize their health.
Six pitches, six fastballs, six strikes (five swinging).
Took a ball, and fouled one off in the third AB.
Braden: “And that might be the last fastball he sees.”
Promptly strikes out on a high fastball.
Rangers radio: “He looks like he’s swinging a 20 pound lead bat”. And “why would Lynn throw him anything but fastballs?” They were even surprised he threw one outside trying to get a chase; why bother?
He has to be on the bench tomorrow after tonight’s sombrero.
Yep.
A frustrating day here as my annual 36-hole PGA Day in Reno ended in thunder, lightning and a deluge after 20 holes (though not before wasting 2-1/2 hours waiting).
Scoring one with a bases loaded, 0 out opportunity is not getting the evening session off to a strong start.
I didn’t get to follow our Cal phenom on Friday because his tee time was too late to fit my schedule, but…GO BEARS!
Mengden is mixing pitches and hitting spots beautifully so far.
Shut up, stupid!
Elvis Andrus has returned from Dallas and could be inserted in the lineup at shortstop, and based on the first inning I wouldn’t hesitate a whole lot in doing that.
He’s fking out!
HOW DO YOU NOT CHALLENGE THAT
No replay?? He looked out.
^ What they said.
Huh, I thought Choo’s front foot beat the tag, doubtful they’d get an overturn.
The slow mo angle I saw was that the ball was in Hermann’s glove the entire time and the tag was before he hit the plate. Regardless, given the game situation there of it having the potential of being the third out with no runs scored, you have to challenge the play even if you’re just 50% sure it gets overturned. It’s unlikely there’s a higher impact time to save the challenge for.
That play was enraging because it had 4 different point of failures: Profar oleing the ball, Ramon not picking it up cleanly, Semien’s abysmal throw home, and the managerial failure of not challenging. Choo should’ve never been close to scoring.
Stole this from **
I thought it was 100% that the tag came before his foot hit home plate, and at least from the angles we had it did not look like the ball hit the ground. Only thing I can figure is that they might say, NFL style, that he was not in full control of the ball when he was making the tag.
I have to agree with the Rangers radio announcers (with Ken off I am not listening to Vince and Ray tonight) that the Friday night DJ thing in the Treehouse is a little too loud.
Having been out there for that, I totally concur. It is a fun scene, but too loud.
Well hopefully by the time this spot in the rotation comes around again, there’s someone else pitching in it.
I’m coming down there for the games tomorrow night and Sunday and feel like I should bring my gravedigging shovel. Relying on Homer Bailey to change my attitude.
Isn’t that shovel always part of your go bag?
I’m sorry I will miss you again. I even had to give away to front row seats tomorrow.
Breakfast was on the small side so there’s room for a Root Beer Float. And I’m glad they have switched from Mug to A&W.
this is the content I came for
East Side Club was jam-packed. No celebrity scoopers in Championship Plaza but no lines and who would you rather meet than Stomper and kid anyway?
I’m not comfortable with Stomper being a father. He’s not ready.
Also Junior looks to me like a troubled teen in the making. Can the pruno be far behind?
Being rather inept with the phone, when looking at the photo on my phone it was, you know, phone-sized. I didn’t realize it was closer to life-size until I looked at it on the iMac screen. A little more reasonable now I hope.
Attitude was changing with the 5-0 lead. Less so when Bob stuck with Bailey a little too long and 5-0 eventually became 5-4.
I did enjoy people in 115 last night complaining that Sclitter should have started
I think Jesse Chavez has gained weight.
I will miss henricks when he is gone next week
pAthetic
Bleich. If there is any argument for mortgaging any part of their 2020-2021 chances for a postseason opportunity this season it sure as hell was not in evidence tonight.
Jake Diekman to A’s for somebody or other.
Dairon Blanco and Ismael Aquino, according to the Royals’ twitter account. (I can’t seem to embed tweets.)
I’m pleased to see them make small upgrades for the cost of fringe-at-best prospects. This team isn’t great, but it’s good, and a pennant race is not something to punt off.
Not sure about this. Don’t care about the prospects given up, but I don’t think Diekman is good.
Then again, fk Buchter
Im very much for this. In this tight market, where are you going to get a better affordable left handed relief arm for two players that have ceilings as backups.
Eric Longenhagen of Fangraphs agrees:
Well thats settled then… :-P
his WARB is high, though
Why not try to trade for good pitchers instead of bad ones?
i hope marcu was explaining “don’t do that again”
Thank god for Jeff Mathis.
the cal guys are pulling theor weight
That was intentional, right?
why ?
Sampson yelled at Canha earlier this season after a homer. And then Canha got him again tonight.
ah, i didn’t know
This pitcher seems like an asshole.
I liked ramon’s “here? you want me to drop the bat here?”
Slusser reports that Sampson had intentionally stepped on Laureano’s bat last game. So Laureano was saying “step on this one you ass.”
Just smoke, no fire, as always, but I thought it was funny that Profar did a fair amount of ranting at his old ballclub.
the kid has problems
Come on, he’s just looking for his Goliath.
cal st fullerton representing
Trying to get a seventh inning out of Homer was a bad idea.
Also I just tuned in … bad things always follow that.
Is Buchter’s replacement here yet?
Needed that one
Nice hot day, day game after a night game, Fiers on the hill, what could go wrong?
mark cahna? they were worried Canha would try to steal?
ok
huh. well there it is.
the only question left on this forehead tattoo i’ve been looking for, cursive or blackletter?
Blackletter for sure.
Fiers’ ball-strike ratio not up to par but he’s hanging in there.
walking federowicz to get to choo with a runner on third is all part of the plan
bold move to walk davis after having him 0-2
You cannot walk the fking catcher there.
3 double plays in 5 innings.
sigh
wtf????
Sounds like the Mets gave up two middling pitching prospects for Stroman (under control for 2020) and got some cash from the Blue Jays in the deal. I wouldn’t mind a deal like that.
Except that our middling pitching prospects are currently in the rotation.
Between Stroman and Syndergard mostly I like the Fuck the Yankees approach the Mets are taking.
I cant believe that was all it took to land Stroman… we should have been on a deal like that.
I don’t think we really have the kind of pitching prospects the Mets gave up here. Puk and Luzardo are too good, and the rest are either low ceiling (Dunshee, Howard) or have haven’t pitched much professionally due to injuries. (Kaprielian, Jeffries, Holmes).
He’s done, Bob.
cool
This team has done a lot recently to prove an “all-in” teade should not happen.
Also can we stop with Canha not getting a good read/sun in his eyes while he has shades on top of his cap? Just an awful look.
When Khris is up with runners on my main thought is “please be patient and maybe draw a walk”.
yay, no double play!
I’m so tired of Profar. He fucking sucks.
Still better than Bareto
Hell yeah
danny santana taketh, danny santana giveth
Santana seems like lots of bat but not much glove at any position
I’ll still take that over our incumbent 2Bs
Could apply to Danny or Domingo.
1B coach signaled foul to the dugout, Woodward asked for review anyway.
Woodward has a bit of a Bob Geren look about him.
doesn’t cost a challenge on the HR, yeah?
Crew chief doesn’t have to grant it. “Your own coach called it foul.”
I remember seeing Tweets we were in on Stroman. And weve seen tweets about being in on Syndergaard. If this is to set up some mortage our future to get both of them I will throw up.
Not buying the Soria has figured it out narrative.
Certainly not enough to trust him two days in a row.
This was 3 in a row
mother fuckers.
its tough having no reliable relivers
Send more relievers.
Walking Odor here is so fucking stupid. He’s their best chance for a K.
Not a single breaking pitch was thrown with 2 strikes by Hendriks. I don’t understand this at all.
Herrman taking two balls off the same spot on the same knee has me wondering who the emergency catcher is.
Apparently it’s Pinder. Also per Slusser:
Id have no problem trying Pinder everyday at 2b
I think he’s a much better defender in left than at second, but I want his bat in the lineup either way.
Id rather see Cahna play everyday when piscotti gets back with pinder at 2b than watch barreto
His offensive numbers are almost as bad as Profar’s, which is odd, because he got off to a really good start and I hadn’t noticed a major slump since.
Leclerc sucks, git er done boys.
Let’s go
Soaker appears to have the correct opinion.
A walk is good here Khris.
Very good.
Well, I salvaged what looked like it was going to be an ugly series.
Heck, lean into the 1st pitch inside…
Some good at bats by KD today. Please let that be something.
That Semien at bat was fantastic.
Maybe Treinen earned a high-leverage role back?
rolling hendricks soria and petit out everyday isn’t going to work. need innings from somewhere.
I’m celebrating at the Chicken Pie Shop of Walnut Creek. It’s me, the waitress, the bartender and whoever is back in the kitchen. At 5:45 pm. Fire Townsend now!
Was glad to see some major high density going up at Macarthur BART; that area has always been way short of its potential.
You’ve gotta hit up Cache Creek Casino Resorts on the way home.
The pie is maybe the size of a large biscuit so that might explain the lack of a crowd.
One of the A’s broadcast crew, maybe Glen, loves that place.
It would be a good lunch place, but the pie wasn’t real substantial for the featured meal of the day, especially when it has to absorb alcohol. Just as well today though with all the Root Beer Float calories.
Greetings from Grand Lake, Colorado. Off to the woods tomorrow, in closing up and over the Continental Divide.
From the Deadspin article on the Raiders – I braved a little bit of the comment section and found this gem:
ESPN, suddenly discovering that there’s a team in Oakland, has three A’s games on the schedule in August: next Monday at Wrigley Field and both the Tuesday and Wednesday games of the Yankees series at the Coliseum.
Is it safe to come out yet? I swear, if they trade any of these guys…
BRING ME TREVOR BAUER
Thanks, and go As.
Just President Nixon and Governor Reagan chewing the fat and being extremely racist together.
Unreal
unreal? disagree
The racism doesn’t surprise me in the slightest, but I guess I am naive enough to have expected better from the National Archives.
can’t finish the whole thing right now. do they ever sit in front of a piano to do that “boy the way glen miller played “song?

and i’ve been wondering. anybody got tomjchicago on their twit-dar? what’s your reading / impression?
