Now where’s that Admiral Ackbar gif….
Pham knocked the pulp out of that one.
For the record, I quite enjoyed T. Anderson’s straight leg windup last night.
I’m not sure I’ve seen an HBP that bounced before.
Dumb dumb dumb
Is that 3 steals of home against us on this road trip?
So annoying, itwas like the A’s hadn’t even considered the possibility of a double steal. My former Little league catcher self was offended.
To be fair, it sounds like this has been a brutal road trip: getaway night game in Anaheim, doubleheader in the heat in Texas, then delayed flight on the last day there, now playing in a dome. I’ll be happy if they can manage one win in this series.
Having lived part of it and not even dealing with any travel bullshit I’m very happy with 5-5 on this trip and thrilled with 6-4.
While I was waiting for my flight to Las Vegas at Dallas yesterday morning, Southwest was offering $600 for anybody on the flight to Atlanta at the adjacent gate to relinquish their seat. I thought that might be a good deal if they offered it for my flight. Then I looked and saw there were no other options at all to get to Reno yesterday; the weather issues which took out Cuban’s/the A’s plane at Love Field cancelled a lot of flights and people were still being rebooked yesterday.
Wow, the seemingly rare replay where they actually have the perfect angle for the correct call.
Emilio!
x2
Yeah he may have fooled the Tampa authorities by shearing the curls but he’s clearly the same man. Book him.
Pagan owed us
First two homers he’s given up this season, amazingly.
Not many 1-2-3 innings for Trivino since March and early April.
He looked good doing it too.
Wish we coukd say the same for Blake.
He’s reminding me of Don “Full Pack” Stanhouse. Always an adventure.
I was thinking the latter days of the Balfour tenure, but full pack is a better reference.
I think Treinen will be fine, he’s obviously lost the otherworldly precision he had last year but his pitches are moving well. He’ll get the location back.
I actually turned off the radio before the bottom of the 9th. i was in a good mood and did’t want to jeopardize it
Good debuts by Puk and Luzardo in Stockton tonight. Per twitter, both were throwing upper 90s.
If a runner is thrown out trying to go 1st to 3rd, how can it be scored as a double for the batter?
I was going to explain without having seen the play, but the more I thought about it as I was writing, that seems remarkably odd and nonsensical.
MLB.com finally posted the video. It was a ball down the left field line that would have been an easy double with the bases empty. Pham’s momentum was taking him toward third, and he had a play there only because KD is a bad baserunner who can’t slide properly.
This ump loves him a low strike.
Good
It at least fired up Olson I guess.
69 pitches through 5 scoreless for B. Anderson. Very welcome development.
Dare I say…nice?
Fails to keep a bunt single fair against the shift. Kills the next pitch for a homer.
Oh hell yes.
Rrrrraamon!
I’m sure the Rays had some internal voodoo metric that said bringing in a lefty against Laureano made sense.
Everyone in the dugout is probably glaring at the analytics guy they put in there.
stop saying that. I know you don’t want jeff back on EW
lol
Apparently Sam didn’t listen much to the Jeff era of the show. Now he is gradually working his way through those episodes and telling Ben when he and Jeff screwed up answering a question. I love it.
Ramón!
Is that an Earthquake? No, it’s Ramon!
Chapman fouled one into the Rays TV booth, apparently denting the play-by-play guy’s metal coffee cup. In related news, the Rays color guy is a Cotroneo doppleganger.
Good road trip
6-4? And 2 out of 3 at the Trop? I’ll take it.
Yep. Now a much-needed day off, followed by home series against terrible Seattle and Baltimore teams and then four more against TB. Seems like this is a good opportunity to establish themselves as a serious contender for a playoff spot.
Boy this team sure didn’t feel primed for a strong road trip on June 4. For the 2019 A’s so far momentum is the next day’s breakfast buffet.
Very much this. And not to go Vince, but it seems like an issue of consistency. Every part (hitting, starting, bullpen) seems to randomly become great or fall apart.
Never go full Vince.
no, you made a clear statement. that is not Vince at all
I could go back and edit my comment into a Bauncast if you’d like.
……….what!?
innings limitations are something. I bet the nationals wished san diego would have limited Strasburg innings at that age
Thank goodness St Louis won the Stanley Cup, if Boston held three of the big four US championships at once I don’t know if the world could handle that much entitled asshole crowing.
Plus Fenway Sports Group owns Liverpool F.C. in addition to the Red Sox. I noticed they won something or other a few weeks ago.
Off day prospect stat noticings:
-Nick Allen (20) is hitting .288/.360/.433 for Stockton. If his glove is as amazing as advertised…yo.
-Jonah Heim (23) was hitting .285/.370/.430 for Midland before getting the emergency call to Vegas to replace Beau Taylor. A switch-hitting catcher who gets on base like that is the stuff of Bob Melvin’s fantasies.
-Wandisson Charles (22) throws 100 and has 52 Ks and 24 walks in 31.2 innings between Beloit and Stockton. That sounds entertaining.
wanderson charles?
Barreto has a .901 OPS in AAA, 9 homers 16 doubles in 59 games. Mostly 2B and SS but also 9 appearances in OF. I’m ready for him to back up Pinder and cast Profar aside.
.924 now. He has also brought his K rate down to a more manageable 25% (it was 32% in AAA last season), while still walking 11%. He’s also 11 for 12 on steals.
If he isn’t ready now, he never will be.
.949 now
And even as Profar has “improved” he sure doesn’t feel like a long term answer. Would love to see him moved for the various spare parts we could obtain.
In his 11 games in AAA, my dude Heim has put up a very sustainable .455/.486/.758 line.
A tribute to the Coliseum BART pedestrian walkway
That guy has kids almost exactly my kids ages with the same first names for both. A mutual friend mentioned it to him and he thought it was another family that shares the same age/named children. He thought it odd enough to devote an entire column in the “poop diaries.” then about 2010 I ran into his wife with the kids at the baladium in alemeda. We discovered the names and compared notes to figure out that that chron guy was the father.
I had commented on the article that I was the guy our mutual friend was mentioning and he ignored it. I find him annoying because of that.
He’s a Giants fan that lives in Oakland. Bizarro Future Ed.
australia came back from 0-2 to beat brazil??
i don’t understand women’s soccer at all.
Exciting game but damn, Mark Jackson is just insufferable.
It completely boggles the mind that he’s allowed to call any Warriors games at all.
Thanks, and go As.
He adds no analytical value, ever. It’s amazing. Every now and then he will harp on a player for committing a dumb foul or something, but most of the time it’s just “that’s good defense, but better offense,” uttered in a tone that suggests he thinks he has said something profound.
A few minutes into the first quarter, this exchange happened:
BREEN: A dream start for the Raptors!
JACKSON: (after a pause to think): If you’re the Toronto Raptors, you couldn’t ask for a better start.
ME: What would you say you do here?
Let’s hope that by the time the A’s are in the World Series again, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office is less stupid than this, especially if the opposing team’s GM isn’t a white guy.
You think the sheriffs will get less stupid in just five months?
*hand-on-chin emoji*
Come on
sounds right
Shockingly, the footage does not back up their account.
I like how the most prominent thing in this video is his credentials comeing out of his pocket
It’s amazing. Credentials coming out, he gets shoved hard and told to “back the fuck up,” then he calmly says “I’m the president of the Raptors” while holding his hands in the air, and he gets shoved again.
And the deputy sued him.
The deputy is supposedly unable to return to work, was shown on KTVU last night lifting and carrying boxes around his property.
When SLF was working as a PI befoer her guvemmmt job, she used to do surveillance like that. One time she videoed a pac heights plaintiff in a lasiks case contradict her claim that she couldn’t go outside with sunglasses, even at night hauling her nanny and kids all over town in the middle of the day without shades.
Also I got to go with her when the woman went out on a date night to see sideways at the embarcadero center
holding his hands high WITH THE CREDENTIALS!
lying on video is a pretty easy cross examination tool for the defense.
I’m not a fan of the “keeping a day-to-day guy around and not on the IL” concept-just like most of us here. But I can sort of understand it. If you think someone just needs one day and you dont want to have them sitting forever healthy.
But if you already know Piscotty will be out a week you put him on the IL.
