Hello, PLease do not let Mr. Bauer taint your opinion of people from a certain school. He is not representative.
He is pitching tonight against Local hero Paul blackburn
Tomorrow! Pluto v Edwin Jackson, I imagine he writes the name of the city on the bill of his cap to keep it straight.
Sunday! Clevengar v Montas. that should be fun
See you in the pit,
Ed
there is a run
MAtt Chapman
This has been a fun season so far.
I went to Dodger Stadium for the first (and possibly last) time on Monday. The stadium was cool. The view from the upper deck was spectacular. The fans I encountered were ignorant assholes, and there were lots of cops and not all that many ushers. The food was mediocre. Dodger Dogs suck compared to the sausages in Oakland. Plus, the lower concourse was for lower concourse ticket holders only, so there was totes a first class/second class fan demarcation which was off-putting. The security theater was over-the-top, and Vin Scully’s prerecorded trivia question was a video highlight film of 1988 followed by “What year was this?”. In LA, they assume the fans don’t know history. In Oakland, they assume we do.
I am torn on the scully worship. I grew up in the 70s listening to him and he was wonderful then. I stopped in the mid 80s.
When it came on the computer in the 2000s, I listened here and there and there were great moments of story telling but he wsa a really shitty broadcsater in the 2010s. Its right that they honor him, but something about it is off putting.
next delivery up and away. [pause pause] and uh swung on and missed by franklin.
Come on vince, call the play. you were doing so well this year
this game played tuesday, its still 1-0
I don’t know how they are doing this, but I appreciate it.
Wow
Canha walked, advanced to second on Lowrie’s walk, advanced to third when Yan Gomes threw the ball into centerfield trying to throw Canha out at second on Lowrie’s walk (!?), and then tagged up and scored when Guyer didn’t let Davis’ foul pop up drop.
but then olson homered
hmm, can’t hold a 5 run lead…
WHAT IS HAPPENING IN OAKLAND RAY FOSSE
I said this over on the Book of Faces, but it is worth repeating.
I dont expect this to continue. I dont expect we will make the playoffs. But, I remember saying the same thing in 2012. We won a series, then another. We had these little hot streaks and they just became more frequent and pretty soon we were facing Texas in the last series of the year.
there needs to be a better rotation than Mengden/Montas/MBlackburn/Manaea/MJackson.
I don’t think its coming from Cahill/anderson/Triggs
If puk were still a thing or Graveman, I would have hope for a 2012 reprise, but they aren’t, so I don’t
I saw Travis Blackley post on Instagram and he was in the bay area. I’m not saying he would help, but would he really hurt that much? We can just have him go through in lineup once, maybe twice.
The Rockies have sent Jon Gray (2.80 xFIP, 3.09 FIP, 5.77 ERA) to the minors.
If they don’t want him, maybe the A’s should take him off their hands.
Now that is interesting.
Already has 2.5 fWAR this year, which is tied (with Kluber!!) for 12th best in baseball. Of course fWAR is based on FIP, not ERA.
A glance at his numbers suggests he is just giving up a few too many fly balls and getting unlucky on them.
We have almost 2 rotations of AAA-AAAA-MLB starters on the DL
Anderson
Cahill
Cotton
Gossett
Mengden
Triggs
Graveman
Puk
I just had to type it out for S&G. That wouldnt take us to the series but my God…
i forgot/didn’t know mengden was on the DL.
Pretty roundabout way of just saying “I DO NOT KNOW, GLENN KUIPER”
A’s were 42-43 at this point in the 2012 season (while this team is currently 46-39). However, this team is 8 out of the closest playoff spot, while that 2012 team was only 3.5 out (albeit they had 5 teams ahead of them while currently we only have 1).
I would say going into the All Star break they need to sweep the Padres, take another 2/3 from CLE, and at least split with the Astros (so 6-3 overall for this stretch) to be reasonably confident contenders/buyers. There’s also a lot more sellers this year than in years past so finding a cheap mid range SP rental may not be as costly.
Some cosmetic changes at the back end of the bullpen should help right now. Wahl (14 K/9 4.1 BB/9 2.73 ERA) and Wendelken (13.5 K/9 2.6 BB/9 3.65 ERA) should get opportunities while Hatcher and Casilla need to go.
Even if your best case scenario plays out, I would hesitate spending talent to get things that won’t help in 19 and 20 where you have at least the hope of Kaprilian/holmes/Luzardo /puk being ready
I would be happy if hatcher and casilla were gone and the roster was 23.
GREAT TRADE. Who’d we get back
Thanks, and go As.
Now that we have a semblance of a bullpen I could live with one of them sitting at the end of the bullpen and getting in once every series when a game is out of hand in either direction. But the fact that Jairo is getting close to 2 seasons here again is just mind blowing.
So it ended up being 7-2 and was so close to being 8-1. 5-6 GB depending on Mariners game tonight.
Gaining 2 to 3 games in a week and a half is pretty good, but feels a little disappointing given how good the results were
We play Seattle seven times at the Coliseum between mid-August and Labor Day. I think we’ll be close enough to make those games meaningful, which will be cool.
I didn’t think I’d have a reason to smile during this shitty news week, and then there was Stomper running around the field, naked.
That’s FKing horseshit. He was safe.
Oh well, here comes Hatcher to render it all moot.
That got out of hand
2 of three from cleveland? wow, well ok.
We have a better record than them, you know.
having reviewed the highlights, Canha was safe, and how in the hell did the A’s keep them to 8 in the 8th? great job getting out of that without more damage.
Hey, quick basket-ball question, do players have positions anymore? Like point guard small forward etc?
Sort of. The new trend is for players that can switch off between multiple spots, but the good ones are rare (see Green, Draymond) and it’s kind of in flux. Terminology tends towards the numbers: 1=point guard, 2=shooting guard, 3=sm fwd, 4-Power Fwd, 5=C. Everyone covets the long wingspan and someone who can shoot from the outside, and rebound, and guard a “big”. The equivalent of “9 Hattebergs” would be five guys all between say 6’5″ and 6’11” who can all dribble, rebound, defend, and shoot, and thus be interchangeable, but teams are still a long way from that.
