Nice to wake up on Opening Day to blowing snow.
Now: Cardinals at Pirates
Then: Blue Jays at Rays
Finally: Mets at Royals

Caught a little bit of Dallas Braden on the ESPN pregame show. The interaction seems to be 1. Dallas makes a smart ass joke (“Stroman has a Connie Chung slider — late breaking news”) then 2. the other anchors repeat his joke and laugh. The kids these days!
he is clever. although, i had to hold my breath waiting for the punchline
i hope there is a sterling in the league to face archer
How about Starling Marte?
I think we covered this already, but Jaso’s dreadlocks are heinous.
Cultural appropriation!
Holy fuckballs that was a HUGE facebook shitstorm this last summer…
Most of the white activists I know who had dreadlocks don’t anymore, for sure.
He looks really dirty.
Holliday and Jaso starting at 1b.
but is Matt having fun there??
we need jedi leroy to suss this out
its hard to hate cardinals that have such a strong sock game
Actually it is still pretty easy.
the spray on everything has to stop. cerveli’s chest protector. the diamondbacks pants..
I like the way they’re having three Sunday openers this year rather than just the evening game.
reaction to the first hit of the season 4 innings in for the cardinals
I want alternative audio for baseball games.
I want uniform diversification for baseball teams.
This probably sounds nuts, but I’m bored senseless of baseball announcers, with a handful of exceptions.
I’m bored of the blandness of the way the players look.
I want comedians and populist politicians and fans and brilliant storytellers in the booth, even if the play-by-play suffers.
I want players to be able to wear any given piece of a team’s uniform set during any given game, like the A’s used to do for All-Star games.
I want Susan Sarandon and Bill Murray to broadcast a Game Of The Week. They would be a killer booth team for TV, even/especially when they ramble on for multiple innings about things other than the game.
I would like a team to specifically draft and trade for as many closeted queer players as possible and become a majority queer team, just like the Pirates became mostly an African-American team in the 70’s. Everybody can come out of the closet at once after they win the World Series.
they just aren’t trying with uniforms. I like the classics, but the jays and astros can do some really incredible things with their history. really losing out.
maybe an alternate crew everyday, like the free game of the week has an additional crew. just one game a day.
a 9 person coming out party in a champaign clubhouse wouold be epic
the A’s have a chance at a mostly black team. Manae maxwell, davis crisp semien. not out of the question could appear on the field this year
I like that Vin Scully gets a farewell tour.
I like that a small market team won the World Series last year.
I like the idea that the A’s can come out of nowhere and be a good team this year if they’re lucky and avoid the injury bug.
I like big butts, although I am most certainly capable of obfuscatory fibbing.
I like that, after the next2-3 days, baseball is no longer needing a ton of fanfare, the “something to do” fans will disappear, and it will just become that natural part of our lives.
I also like that my games will not be starting at 10pm. (God willing a final update tomorrow…)
yay!
The pleasure of having a real baseball game I can watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon is pretty much ruined with Curt Schilling in the booth.
This is where Kay and Ed are dead on that a secondary team of say Ryan Reynolds and Louie Anderson would be nice. Compared to Sock Boy I might take Burt Reynolds and Lonnie Anderson.
just not dennis miller
Agreed.
ptbnlbait
Not a good final inning there.
A Dana Eveland sighting was not something I expected on opening day 2016.
Perfect 1.2 innings with 2 Ks!
cespedes won a gold glove?
dammit. forgot about an auction. I hate that
Anyone want to borrow my MLB.tv? Forgot to cancel it again.
I am not convinced that Mark Canha has the skills to handle the role the A’s have assigned him this year. I speak of course of the new TV commercials.
The Royals are as annoying as usual.
Jessica Mendoza proving that she can spout clichés about playing the game the right way just as well as any white man.
too bad for the mets that the reigning gold glover in left can’t catch
oh, yo
More regular season wins: Warriors or A’s?
Ws.
the warriors will win more post season games. the a’s will win 12.
The A’s don’t win the division? Pessimist.
wait, is that the same amount? I don’t know how many rounds they have
Warriors will need 16.
Will be close. I think the A’s can get to 74 or 75 wins but I’m not confident in it at all.
EDIT: It just occurred to me that in April of last year we were debating whether the A’s would get more wins than the Warriors in the regular season plus postseason. And in the end the A’s only beat the Warriors’ regular season total by 1. Sad!
Yeah, they probably won’t win 75 games. But they’ll be there, green and gold and glorious and there.
And we get to watch/hear it all unfold. Take it away, Harpo!
I really dont care that there were games yesterday.
It’s opening day! Or Opening Day, depending on your feelings for this upcoming season.
Pick out your hat for today, go get your favorite snack and be ready. The last time I had this little faith that we were going to be really good was 2012, so who knows?
Man, Cincinnati doesn’t even get the first start time on the Monday anymore.
FK ’em for scheduling a night game.
Why is it that the A’s always open at home? More cold-weather open-air parks in the AL? The Giants prefer to open on the road?
I have read the Giants one. And it was said we like to open at home.
Currently listening to Bob Uecker. He seems impressed by this pitcher named Baumgardner.
Looking forward to the “Lam Bros” section in the bleachers.
Come on, Chris!
Good RBI.
Ray Fosse turns 69 today.
Who with?
i’d like to think this morning went a little like this:
“finally! after all those years of eating old limp chicken, it’s turnaround day!”
[opens paper]
“d’oh!”
Over/under on number of times Fosse references someone going to Francesco’s this season anyway…15?
I suspect the A’s will continue telling hitters that a 10-pitch AB gets them dinner at Francesco’s, secure in the knowledge that no player has actually tried to redeem the offer since the Billy Martin era.
Where are they going to have the booster club meetings??
Who was that, could you tell?
I’m pretty sure it was Reddick but I was distracted by Butler’s t-shirt gut.
Red.
God damn it.
What the hell are they letting this kid eat?
Damn – sorry GM.
I still get to see Chris Sale……..sigh
It’s got to be Applebee’s.
Applebees Salad Bar?
heh
Now that I’ve seen the commercials being shown on CSN California during the games, I strongly suspect he succumbed to an order of Wienerschnitzel Loaded Taters. Yuck.
Well that’s a buzz kill if there ever was one.
food poisoning? or “food poisoning”?
Sonny doesn’t really seem like the type to get shit-faced the night before his Opening Day start though.
The NBA equivalent of this is “flu-like symptoms,” which often crop up during road trips to LA and Miami.
No, my money would be on diaper change-related contamination. That, or Canadian gamblers.
There goes my odds of a perfect season of GTs…
So we’re throwing Hill, Bassitt, Graveman, and most likely Surkamp to start the season.
There’s a very 1996 feel to this rotation when you remove Sonny.
Food poisoning likely won’t last that long. Unless it kills him.
Ha. Ha.
Whither the Sonny Siders?
Well, when you have such a talented and successful group of veterans…
This is maybe the most depressing part of the season. I guess I’m supposed to be excited about Barreto, Olson, Chapmen, Nunez, et al, but it doesn’t even seem like a particularly good farm system.
It could be worse. At least the A’s aren’t the Brewers.
They are playing in some grim looking weather in Baltimore.
Det and Mia didn’t even have a game scheduled today?
…that lineup actually doesn’t look terrible. I hope that Davis hits a lot of bombs. That’ll clear the bases so Butler can’t GIDP.
i am optimistic. can’t help it.
Braves fans just gave Frenchy a standing O as he came up to pinch hit.
BRYCE HARPER!
I went to see Blue Jays vs Red Sox last night at Fenway. I got to see E5 (can I still call him that now that he’s a DH?) hit two identical bombs over the green monster. Also Pat Venditte and Jesse Chavez sightings (Chavez effective, Venditte not so much). But the Red Sox won anyway.
