Lot of hard consonants in these pitching matchups
It’s Greinke’s 499th career start. 0 no-hitters, 1 1-hitter and 1 2-hitter.
Nicely done.
The 2022 version of Greinke (4.4 K/9, 10.5 H/9) is not likely to no-hit anyone. Even the A’s.
Streaking to the fountains tonight!
every game is the same.
Going back through the box scores: This is the 20th game in June. In 2 of the previous 19, the A’s fell behind and then came back to at least tie the game.
June 1 vs. Astros: Behind 1-0 after 6, took 3-1 lead, eventually lost 5-4.
June 11 at Cleveland: Behind 5-2 after 6, came back to win 10-5.
In their last 15 losses, once the A’s fell behind, they have not once come back to tie the game or take the lead.
So this is unique!
Yes, that 15-game streak was broken earlier tonight*. “Every game is the same”? BAH!
*I’m confusing myself with my own post. The 15-game streak will be broken if the A’s lose. The game could still go into the almost unheard-of come-from-behind win category, leaving the streak in losses intact.
Archer Prewitt got some outs, good for him
Just click those sapphire blue city connect slippers and say “there’s no place like road.”
they are also not in Kansas anymore
Just another charlatan behind the curtain.
You better head back to Tennessee, Jed. Please retire.
Only 90 more to go!!
His roller was slow, but he was slower.
59 games back of the first-place Yankees with 72 games played gives the A’s a Team Suck Coefficient (TSC) of 0.82
What’s the worst TSC in MLB history (minimum 20 games)?
29.5 games behind the Yankees.
We are 26 games under .500, and they are 33 games over .500 (W – L), but we are 29.5 games behind them (((W_1-W_2)-(L_1-L_2))/2). Pretty sure we had this same discussion before.
[Could not get delta character to work.]
It’s my damn statistic, I’ll define it how I damn well please.
Fair enough. Though I would also note that it’s (ignoring the slight difference in number of games played for the two teams in the denominator) just twice the difference in winning percentage. (I think your factor of two might have something to do with spinors).
Anyway, I don’t know biggest ever, but a couple examples I found:
the 2003 Tigers starting 2-19 (.095) while the Yankees were 19-4 (.826) on that day.
the 1988 Orioles started 0-21 while Cleveland was 16-5. (.762)
TSC around 1.5 in both cases.
Isn’t it just the difference in win percentages?
DW/Games Played = W_first/GP – W_last/GP = WP_first – WP_last
Tangentially, while wikipedia gives the correct definition of games behind, in its list of worst MLB seasons it also drops the factor of 1/2.
But in your revised definition, we do not have 59 fewer wins than the Yankees, we have 29 fewer.
Do I contradict myself?
Very well then I contradict myself,
(I am large, I contain multitudes.)
Leaves of grass, my ass!
What’s a factor of two among friends, or astronomers.
A’s are better than the Yankees at not getting no hit at least.
Or as my favorite seminar opening had it, “For the purposes of this talk e = i = pi = 1”
Holy shit. Hadn’t even seen this yet….
If the angels lose tonight, they will be behind the orioles and the mariners in the wild card race
Scioscia is doing worse than Scioscia was before they canned him.
If they would just give him some good players to work with…
States rights will be forgotten by the time Speaker McCarthy first wields the gavel.
Nah, the specific state’s right to not do what democrats want will survive.
Can we just turn over all Dem messaging to AOC? She seems to be one of the only elected officials able to clearly and boldly communicate the stakes and a roadmap.
Yes
A leadership cadre that’s older than the last Soviet Politburo doesn’t communicate well, who’d have thought?
there is something special going on in KC.
I mean, it’s just a lead, but that is special
Scoring 8 and losing would be super special.
and old fried Daniel Mengden
sam moll has walked 2 guys with no outs with a 4 run lead in the 8th and lou trivenot is the answer
now there was a home run
This is at least going to be a different loss.
lol all of us thought that was gone off the bat
Lou Trivino, six-out hero.
As Kaperalien leaves and Sam Moll enters, before we see the outcome, unlike my take with most of these decisions here I wanted Kape to face another batter. He’s thrown well today and the bullpen does not inspire confidence.
With the bases loaded, bringing in the guy who went BB, BB, HR, BB yesterday is an interesting choice.
You’ve got to change your evil ways, Kotsay.
Just what we need
This team is painful to watch, but even more painful for the players.
That was not pretty.
Pinder hits better after he gets beat up a bit..
I hope he does well the rest of today before he gets the news that he’s fractured a rib, punctured a lung, and will be out until 2023.
Glen: Pinder hitting .306 when he can bring the ventilator to the plate..
Per the ADA, they have to let him do it.
It would be a HIPAA violation to even ask the team about it.
What could go wrong?
I want to avert my eyes but I can’t look away.
Anytime you can bring in fullpack after a 6 out save in KC heat you HAVE to.
NOTHING!
Remind me why we have e a 45 yr old C behind the plate in the 9th?
Winning streak!
Consecutive wins for first time since late May. Series win for first time since early May. It’s all turning around!
Meanwhile they’re playing the feud at the House of Scioscia.
