FREAK OUT!
Take my Colon – please.
At least he worked out of it.
Looks like we got ourselves a big pitchers duel. “Big” referring to the pitchers, of course.
Hunter’s not in Colon’s class.
I think Bartolo probably weighs more, too.
I’m not looking forward to the return of Kurt Suzuki, starting catcher.
Those days look numbered, no?
Slusser says the likeliest move when Kottaras arrives is that Norris gets send down. And Kurt likely starts over Kottaras.
Because we need a massive black hole of suck in our line up. Awesome.
Yeah, it doesn’t make sense to me either.
I’m hoping she’s very wrong about this one.
I think Ms. Slusser may be letting her Zuki-love get in the way of common sense, but even if she is right for now, Suzuki’s contract is such that he could most likely clear waivers in August.
Good point. And it’s true, Susan does sometimes have a blind spot where her fave guys are concerned.
She did start out by speculating that there’s a Suzuki trade in the works though. But later she said there’s no “rumblings” of that.
My guess is that Beane just saw a cheap catcher with a .400 OBP and couldn’t resist.
Could also be that he’s being shopped but doesn’t want people to know he’s being shopped. His value has to be pretty low as it is.
Agree with the Zook colored glasses. Both her tweet and McCarthy’s reply were based in the hert, not the head.
I doubt Suzuki will be starting over kottaras.
I’m glad Fosse clarified that discount code is P-I-E. I was about to look up the numbers starting with two after the decimal.
Mrs. T tells me Markakis is “cute”…
I don’t disagree.
WOO Weeks!!!
Cespedes says “Forget about the grounder. I’ll just go yard.”
{shocked face}
Power to both fields, and blinding speed!
TROGDOR HO!!!!
I think we found a First Baseman!
Another moonshot for Carter!
Wow!
I think Trogdor is for real guys.
No doubt, I had a feeling about this AB actually!
I remember seeing how it always took time for him to adjust to a new level, but I had really given up hope before the call up. You have to think of crossing 1B/DH off the need list, right?
He definitely seems to be more adept at laying off breaking pitches out of the zone this time around. I’ve been impressed by the number of times he’s been down 0-2 but still managed to work his way back to a full count.
Yeah the 21% K rate is incredibly encouraging, especially when paired with the 16% walk rate that he is currently featuring.
Best part is his BABIP is like .215
And the K-rate has actually gone up in the last few days from around 17%. Either way, if he maintains something around this level at all, I’ll consider it a major positive.
Fortunately, he is a big fan of hitting balls out of play.
TROGDOR!
Carter continues to impress. His home runs are no-doubters.
Aaaand Suckolovich, add on bitches!
Because just one 5-run lead may not be enough.
heh
Socolovich does not sound like the right last name of a guy from Venezuela with the first name Miguel.
Peruvian Presidente Fujimori dice que?
Fujimori was Japanese tho, coming from the large immigrant Japanese population. He actually has run for parliment in Japan since he was exile
and his daughter ran for prez last year.
Agree with this move. Fly ball that only stayed in the park because it was hit to dead center. Solid single. Popup. Another solid single.
Colon’s been a “one bad inning” pitcher lately, and while I would prefer not to go to the bullpen so early, I would do what Melvin’s doing.
Chris Carter is making a lot of people eat their words right now. There will still be a necessary adjustment period, I think, but he’s been very impressive with this latest and probably last chance the A’s have given him.
I want Headley.
Bingey’s butt – providing comic relief for Oakland since 2012.
I love the player picture for Carter:
like a FKing cobra…
The smileyest cobra ever.
this team…
I know, right? I cannot remember when I last enjoyed baseball this much.
Ridiculous how hard he hits the ball.
La Potencia indeed.
I can’t wait to see the highlight.
Yoenis Cespedes is a bad man.
MOAR POTENCIA!!
There’s that triple. Love to watch that big guy run!
I did not know that Norberto wears #77 to honor his buddy DJ Carrasco.
This team is balls-out shredding right now.
It’s kind of funny how everyone pretty much went “Yeah, come on” at the Cespedes workout video. Now that he’s here, covering all parts of the plate so well, hitting for power and even doing so with an average around .300, it’s easy to see he’s got all the tools. Just get him back in CF and let him keep growing as a player, and damn.
speaking of growing as a player, i do wonder if he’s going to earn some disciplining the way he looks at his HRs…
yeah, he is gonna get drilled if he keeps doing that. I don’t think he is really trying to show anyone up, it’s just that his swing is so violent it takes him a second to come to a rest so he can trot around the bases.
i wonder what the cuban national code is about that.
He said watching your HRs was routine in Cuba.
Stand and watch it for about two minutes.
oh. well i hope he figures it out the nice way and not the rude.
He did say he needed to stop watching so much after that early HR that almost knocked down Mt. Davis, but with some of them I think a little admiration is justified.
Also, soon he will hit so many that it will be less disrespectful to watch
I mean I think it was mostly the production value. No one doubted the tools except for the ability to hit for average, which is kinda what the whole thing rested on. He has been massively impressive in that way.
/iglew bait.
Do you think that he’ll show up here if we misuse massively enough? Maybe mix in some poorly chosen “literally”s too?
My brain tells me dont be stupid, but why cant we catch TX? Sept is gonna be tough but the road is clearly not hurting us right now.
To paraphrase Hendrix: With the power of Yo, anything is possible.
My best guess is that if Texas doesn’t pick up a big pitcher or two, they’ll sink to third in the division.
I fully expect them to pick up somebody though.
Anaheim is a problem too
Yeah, Grienke makes them much more dangerous.
Is Ervin Santana their fifth starter now? Because that’s pretty ridiculous. Weaver-Greinke-Wilson-Haren-Santana
Awesome!
Wow, Cespedes just ran one down and snagged it on a full run.
Yoenis!
Damn, nice catch!
The degree of difficulty on that catch is pretty ridiculous.
He just Kelly Leak’ed it.
THATS why he should be in CF!
And maybe thats what is happening. Has to be a trade right? Coco didnt get hurt, and resting him for an inning doesnt make sense.
Finally in CF and where’s mike to enjoy it?
I thought about going up to Reno for the game tonight but I was up at 4:30 this a.m. and would crap out too early. However, the Aces have their Saturday night games on local television, so if I can get an embarrassing screencap I’ll certainly post it.
Ralph and Stacy are wearing green and gold wigs and we’re in the front row – screen time is assured.
I got a very… strange/interesting text earlier.
Tell everyone I said HI!
Enjoy Dan Straily!
We are, the Reno fans are not!
Glen and Ray haven’t bothered to explain why Crisp came out before the last half inning. Any notes from the radio side?
Coco wanted some ice cream.
Nah…crabcakes.
It probably means nothing, but Pratt would be “surprised” if it were due to the fact that he has been traded.
Especially when they could have waited another half inning and then Canseco’ed him out of the on-deck circle.
Probably a bowel movement.
Isn’t this game 100?
the one after 99.
Bitch!
No, that’s not one.
Kangaroo Court time for Jemile Weeks. Wrong batting helmet.
Seemed to be doing much better with the wrong helmet. Should have stuck with it.
Har har! Weeks will pay for that helmet mistake.
So nice to have a game like this after the pitching aberrations the last two games.
Last night was caused by the ump.
the folks on the radio refus to recognize there was anything going on yesterday. KK poopoo’d the orioles for complaining during their press conference.
I’m blaming you for that HR.
celebrate!
Don’t tell me what to do!
ok, dont celebrate?
There you go, STILL telling her what to do.
RIGHT?! Ugh.
uh uh uh…
BEST WISHES AND GO A’s!
How you’re telling the A’s what to do???
FK you. I’m eating cake!
I’d tell you to enjoy, but, you know.
Ten games over!
It’s fucking great to be an A’s fan right now.
It really is.
Seriously. The winning confuses me (as do the current standings!), but I love it so.
this is exactly how i feel
Bingo.
Even if we blow it at the end of the season, the high of the last few weeks has been incredible.
I’m spending nights awake again
I have very little interest in that outcome even sniffing this timestream.
Uh oh. Time for more awkward Fosse questions to Cespedes.
TX and slegnA losing. On our way…
Prieto’s translation of Cespy’s first answer was about five times longer than Yoenis’s.
Cesp actually said, “Just make some shit up, and make me sound good.”
That did not seem like much fun for him.
Life’s not all rainbows and sunshine, kitten.
Cespedes: “I aint answering that BS question…make something up.”
esa pregunta es una payasada, bro.
?
BWHAHA
Ganar!
:)
Ladies and Gentlemen, This is what winning the internet looks like.
indeed
I get it, haha.
This team is HOOD?
This team is hood?
Hood. Australian for buck.
I had to ask if he really meant “good” there, haha.
Or he was quoting Luda.
My team bad, my team hood. My team do stuff that yo’ team wish they could!
Dont care either way…This team is HOOD!
This whole thing is just too much. I love this team!
I’m actually really glad for people like Korach and Slusser who had to sit through some real shit the past however many years. I can just turn off the game and go about my evening, but they’ve had to hang night in night out. They must be having a ball.
Agreed on all fronts.
Kila gets another one up into the Reno breeze for his second HR tonight. The production values of the telecast are awful, like watching a high school game on Youtube, so I won’t be able to get any screencaps of the FKers.
Braden shut down with a left groin strain.
I’m on it.
Is that why it got strained?
Did you just call me fat? ;)
I think he’s been a little too excited about this month the A’s are having.
Geez, that guy just can’t catch a break.
coco strained hammy per KK
oh oh, coco. DL or D2D?
are you new here?
LOL2LOL.
We should just trade his ass. He sucks. A hit? A hit??? And only 3 Ks?
He’s given up a run!
Now two!
Three!
Any nation so cold that it forces the women’s beach volleyball players into long pants and shirts has no business hosting the summer Olympics.
seconded
so basically no SF summer games?
I hope not, because they’re a boondoggle.
However, it would be obvious to hold heat-loving events in the valley, at Stockton, Davis, and Sac.
It’s July 26th, 2012 at 9:05 pm PST, and the Oakland Athletics have the 3rd best record in the American League at 55-45.
That is SOOOO 2 days ago.
Yes, I meant the 28th, my bad.
Just as I predicted.
heh
July 28th at 9:43pm PST, 3.5 games back of the AL West lead and 2.5 games ahead in the wild-card.
Waching the highlights of Cespedes tonight is like what I imagine it was like to watch Willie Mays. The combination of speed and power is really incredible.
I keep seeing him as being similar in many ways to Bo Jackson, since I remember watching him play.
You’ve got a point there, especially with the lightning quick batspeed and super efficient timing.
Then again, Mr. Carter has been pulling some Jacksonian stunts of his own, lately.
Sure, but Carter’s fairly one-dimensional compared to Bo.
not compared to post-hip replacement Bo!
I can see that comparison, but from what I’ve seen so far he’s a got a much better “hit tool” than Bo had. And I don’t remember Bo covering ground in centerfield like Cespedes did tonight (maybe he did, I just don’t remember).
Bo had much better natural outfielder instincts than Cespedes has shown. Good reads off the bat and good routes to balls. Didn’t have Cespedes’ arm though.
Harold Reynolds disagrees
I’ve been trying to find the video of that. No luck so far.
But did you come across this while searching?
Didn’t Bo have a legendarily ridiculous arm?
he did
Yo knows baseball.
The Raiders had better keep their fucking hands off my Yoennis.
You say that now, but you gotta admit there’s a greater than 0% probability of naming your firstborn “Yoenis,” and therefore a greater than 0% probability of your son eventually getting drafted by the Raiders.
Given that my firstborn is going to be a girl, I disagree with both statements.
I dunno how to reply to that. I feel kinda foot in mouthy, but I’m drunk and happy too, so I’m gonna let the guilt train pass without buying a ticket.
The future is going to be so FKing weird and different 18 1/2 years from now that I dunno what to wish/hope for her or you, other than health and happiness.
Those are the big two.
I’m just saying she’s not going to be named Yoenis, and I doubt the NFL is going to be gender-desegregated. Plus, with my genes she wouldn’t be a good kicker anyway and if there is going to be a woman in the NFL I suspect it’ll be in that role.
Health and happiness mean nothing – NOTHING – if they do not root for the correct team.
Okay, Joe.
How about Yoenessa?
Hooray!
I’ll pitch it and let you know.
nevermoor sleeping on the couch in 3…2…1…
She laughed.
Actually, that running grab he made in left-center made me think he’d be a pretty good WR.
Except that Bo Jackson was never really that good.
You’re too young to have seen him in his prime. He was supremely entertaining and would have been a candidate to hit 60 dongs if his hip had lived deeper into the steroid era. He struck out too much and walked too little to be a top-echelon player, but dude could put on a show.
He was mostly tools, but there were a couple of solid seasons in there: 1989 and particularly 1990.
For a brief period he had all the probability of being that good, but doing the two-sport thing along with the bad injury killed his career prematurely.
Speaking of Bo, check this out. Has some old A’s in it too:
Or maybe:
There we go.
I also remember being at a game where he hit one into the second deck down the LF line against Eck.
Check out the play around 4:30.
I was at a game in Oakland where he struck out four times, and after the fourth one snapped his bat over his knee.
I was at that games as well. I think we’ve talked about this before.
SO i WAS WATCHING the game on at bat on the phone. The “in play, run(s)” pitch was low and away. it then told me the HR went to left.
Susan Slusser, on twitter said “RF.” I assumed she was right because of where the little blue dot was. she corrected herself shortly thereafter.
Dude is strong.
Wow, looks like De los Santos for Kottaras.
Not a big deal to me. De Los Santos has fallen off sharply.
Yeah, he’s completely lost it I guess.
I’ll trade nearly any RP for a useful position player. And Kottaras is useful even if all he does is allow us to move Kurt.
Please move Kurt.
…off the end of the pier.
Was the lack of a backup C the reason Kurt wasn’t moved till now?
Maybe they wanted the flexibility to include Norris in a trade package.
gio trade a total bust
blockbuster.
Not that I care about losing FDLS, but that’s a pretty good return (lottery ticket) for a D’dFA backup catcher.
It’s arguably more than the Twins got for Liriano or the Red Sox for Youkilis
I don’t see the point of this if it just means Suzuki goes back to getting the majority of the starts. But if Kottaras gets the majority of starts, that’s a bold move for a contending team to switch to an entirely out-of-the-organization starting catcher right in the middle of the season.
Yes
but… FAUTINO(TM)! #greatestfuckedupnameinallofsports
Although, I have a new favorite name in baseball
Call me Esmailin.
Hee
wipe that esmail off your face.
Heee

Within a week there will be a tragic maple syrup accident and DL move…
heh
This reads like a Monty Python sketch.

Nice tidbit from Slusser:
Vernon’s life has to be pretty good these days.
