Is Michael Young hurt? Have I not been paying attention?
TBH, the 3-6 is all that scares me. Hamilton/Beltre/Cruz/Napoli is pretty scary though, made worse by the fact that Hamilton/Cruz/Napoli were acquired by the Rangers (or Reds) for little to nothing. And I wanted both Napoli and Cruz. And Hamilton is the perfect Rule V pick.
Rangers are sitting DH Michael Young tonight. Young, who has 8 hits in his last 48 at-bats (.167) doesn’t buy into the idea of slumps, but manager Ron Washington has been giving all his regulars time off this week and Young is subject to the same treatment of all the other regulars. Significant: Young, a opposite field hitter, has 12 ground balls to short or third base, in those 48 at-bats. Tells you something isn’t perfect with swing.

The full house in Arlington reminds me of 1990 at the Coliseum. With two consecutive AL championships (and one World Series championship) in the rearview mirror, the A’s had just 5 home dates that season where they announced less than 25K attendance.

just got back from a great swim. feel awesome. now pondering whether i should even turn the radio on. i find myself getting angry about his situation the way i used to get angry about the geren situation. perhaps a FB campaign is in order…
*i’m* AV. alex vause. put this loon in psych before she hurts someone.
I’ve never really despised Vince…until the last 7 weeks or so. It’s too bad, he’s a utility player who was moved into a starting role and placed in a position to fail.

Since I have to complain about vince at least once, he just made some reference to robinson cano. He implyed he was the gold standard of 2nd base people

For me personally, the best item of note tonight regarding the A’s was this blurb from Goldstein re: Dan Straily (whom I did not know existed prior to reading):
It’s taken scouts a long time to warm up to Straily. As a 24th-round pick in 2009 out of Marshall, Straily began his career as an “org player,” but he has struck out about a batter per inning at every level. He has upped the ante in his first taste of the upper levels with 52 strikeouts in his first 40 1/3 Double-A innings, and scouts are impressed with the stuff he’s missing bats with.
With a 91-93 mph fastball that can touch 94, Straily throws strikes to set up two quality secondary pitches: a plus changeup that neutralizes left-handed hitters, and a slider that gives righties fits. With a big frame and simple mechanics, he’s looking more and more like the rare late pick who can start in the big leagues.
Welp. This was better than the last 2 times I took a group of friends to an A’s-Rangers game; at least it wasn’t a blowout. And there wasn’t a rain delay.
The list of batting averages by our lineup (as featured on the scoreboard at the ballpark) was pretty pathetic. The people behind me were mocking our hitters… but then again, so was I. Wondering why Wash left Darvish in for the 8th? 7-8-9 hitters coming up, all hitting under .200. Doesn’t look too dangerous.
Wish I could’ve seen Cespedes. Might have made the game a bit more interesting (though I did have the slightest bit of hope with Gomes up in the 8th. Oh well.).
Shortly. The school semester is almost over for him and he said he’d be back around these parts in August.

Did anyone else grow up with this series of books about children around the world? I did, and it left me with the impression that all other kids in the world were having much more fun than I was, doing things like pounding out their own taro root mush in Hawai’i or polishing up the brasswork on their family’s English canal boat.
Kinsler a late scratch, stomach virus or some such. I made the correction in the wOBA listing. Not sure it matters much.
That’s cool, although I thought nevermoor was the only one who could edit someone else’s posts now.
Nope. The only privileges I took away from anyone had to do with administration (i.e. deleting users, deleting content, etc)
I’m cool with that.
There are 52 editors on the site, plus nm who is apparently the sole “admin”.
mb is now listed as a “Contributor”, as is LB.
Encouraging, thats a big bat missing.
A) How many loses for the Twins this year 64-98? Over or under?
B) Vladdy for roughly 800k for the rest of the year, should Billy have bitten? Tire-kicker or Nay-sayer?
A: over (104 losses)
B: naysayer
a) Over
b) Nope. I barely accepted Manny and I think he’s a much better hitter these days.
Eeesh- Buchholtz pitches 35 in the first, balks in Carlos Pena from third, ouch….
BoSox are a tangle of fail this year.
Is Michael Young hurt? Have I not been paying attention?

According to Evan Grant via Twitter/Sulia:
Rangers are sitting DH Michael Young tonight. Young, who has 8 hits in his last 48 at-bats (.167) doesn’t buy into the idea of slumps, but manager Ron Washington has been giving all his regulars time off this week and Young is subject to the same treatment of all the other regulars. I would like to give young credit for that, but I bet he is just trying to say he is awesome and therefore can never slump
Hopefully, this is one of those “Barry Zito pitching a shutout at Coors” games.
That sounds like fun!
LOL Darvish’s warmup song is Crank That Soulja Boy
What the hell is Cotroneo doing on XM? I thought I’d hear the Rangers announcers over there tonight.
I thought he was a Rangers announcer
Aw snap!
In play (runs)!!!!
Warning track power FTW!
Two productive outs. Now to make that 1 run hold up.
Shouldn’t be hard against that light-hitting Texas lineup.
Is Andrus double dipping or is that a mouthgaurd?
Any particular reason why Rosales hasn’t found his way back yet? I mean he and Sogard are both bad but at least one has had major league success.
NICE!
I kinda feel like taking a nap. By the scarcity of comments, I’m thinking most everyone else does too.
I just woke up from my Brett Anderson Memorial BestNapEver. Give me time to finish this Coke and I’ll be chattier.

Boobies?
:)
Lefty in the Nolan Ryan seats. Nice.
MOAR COWGILL!
Only 3.2 innings (8 runs, 6 earned) for King Felix tonight.
Like Facebook, FK needs a “like” button.
1/3 of the way through and we’re not dead yet. Success.
The A’s have 5 current or converted catchers on the roster. No wonder they suck at hitting.
Too bad no more Willingham or we’d be at 6.
9 Hattebergs!
Trumped by one Melvin.
Oh, so that’s who that guy is who had his picture taken with Amanda McCarthy.
Ray Fosse really shouldn’t do Forrest Gump imitations. The comparison is not flattering.
My mama always told me…life is like a package of Dibs.
Donaldson should just stop swinging.
Wellllll…the first 3-1/2 innings were fun enough.
Beltre hit 8 HRs against Oak last year? Damn. And I feel like there’s been 15 infield singles against the A’s last two games.
Keeby, Keeby, Keeby. What was that?
Bring back Powell!
Unbelievable.
just got back from a great swim. feel awesome. now pondering whether i should even turn the radio on. i find myself getting angry about his situation the way i used to get angry about the geren situation. perhaps a FB campaign is in order…
*his situation = vince’s situation
Don’t bother. I’ve seen better efforts from JV teams scrimmaging against varsity.
the replays show that. but is VC gloating?
Meh. Sounded like he was rightfully ripping Donaldson.
but he does it so self righteously. I really can’t stand it
I’ve never really despised Vince…until the last 7 weeks or so. It’s too bad, he’s a utility player who was moved into a starting role and placed in a position to fail.
I feel the same way, he was not as good as others, but endearing in his own way.
Now I listen to the opposing team for his innings
So infield hit, 2nd row HR, infield hit, K, walk, wild pitch, flyout, infield hit, hit into hole. Great.
Strange how the other team doesn’t seem to have problems fielding ground balls.
So 8 infield hits against the A’s last two days. Plus how many just in the hole?
Weak contact!
Since I have to complain about vince at least once, he just made some reference to robinson cano. He implyed he was the gold standard of 2nd base people
Is that very far off? It’s basically Pedroia and Cano at the top of the hill nowadays, no? Kinsler and Zobrist are in the picture as well.
I think zobrist and kinsler are far better. Cano as I recall has one year above average.
“that would have been spectacular.”
SEE? i turn it on for one sec and he’s hyping some play that didn’t even happen.
Well, looks like we’re not catching any breaks tonight, they’re being caught by outfielders…
All right, Yu’s gone, let’s do this.
M O J O !!!
That was predictable.
MOUTHGUARD POWER
The A’s did not do much to make game # 38 Special.
It’s concealed.
Somehow I’m glad 38 Special had to be used for a game when Night Ranger could easily have slid in to take their place.
i’m sad that i can’t put any apropos links here because the only 38 special song i know has the word “caught” in the title.
nice
For me personally, the best item of note tonight regarding the A’s was this blurb from Goldstein re: Dan Straily (whom I did not know existed prior to reading):
Looking back through the prospect polls it seems that PT was the only FKer who ever voted for Straily.
I am not upset about Milone’s performance. It was adequate
TWSS?

I love this one
This lineup’s done about what you could have expected it to the last two games.
yeah, when’s cespedes coming back?
I think mid next week?
Welp. This was better than the last 2 times I took a group of friends to an A’s-Rangers game; at least it wasn’t a blowout. And there wasn’t a rain delay.

So where did Bed run off to?
Hawai’i?
Shortly. The school semester is almost over for him and he said he’d be back around these parts in August.
Yeah, apparently he’ll be living in a hut made of ti leaves and pounding out his own taro root mush, and thus won’t have internet access.
hopefully he’ll remember that all for the final challenge. Apparently, they’ve got to create authentic Hawaiian food…
I have soooo got this one in the bag. One can of Spam coming right up!

sorry, that was a bit of a reply FAIL to FSU….
