He is sitting on the bench tonight. Perhaps to provide extra warmth in the dugout/clubhouse given the cold summer evenings in Oakland.
Nomar is back. At not a minute too soon, as he is in at first base tonight, while Giambi DHs, which adds up to a much-needed day off for Travis Buck. In good news, Crosby is not in the lineup.
A’s win easily, 9-4.
A’s plane got back into town at midnight. D-backs flew in at 3 AM.
And boy, are their arms tired.
I gotta think the Buck frustration scale is getting close to the “angrily buzz cut own hair in the mirror” point again.
I like what they are doing with Buck. The guy is only good for what…50 games before he breaks? They’re saving him for after the trade deadline when Holliday is gone.
:(
I think this D’backs offense is just what the doctor ordered for Cahill.
How’s he look? I’m radio only so far.
More strikes, sinker is pretty good, hitters look bad.
Holliday=.971 ops in May.
He can sense a trade coming.
BTW, perhaps you already know, but the link in your AN sigline doesn’t take you here.
In other unrelated news: I have obtained all the Lost season 5 episodes and should be all caught up soon.
Yeah, I don’t know how to make it work properly, but I’m not going to remove it.
Season 5 was great. I think all the seasons have been great, but I watched them all together and never had to wait in between episodes. If you enjoy actually thinking about different theories and connecting the dots, season 5 is especially fantastic.
2 third strikes called balls before that HR.
Are you f’ing kidding me? I finally dropped Chris Young from all three of my fantasy teams and he hits a home run. I should have known to keep him until after they finished playing the A’s…
WHAT
THE
CRAP
WAS
THAT?
I like the R & B MGD song. So there.
Me too.
The other drove me nuts before, but I’ve embraced the madness.
Zavada has amazing facial hair, I cannot root against him.
¡Viva Zavada!
Don’t want to hope here with Sween-dog up…
Same old, same old. This team just smells like freekin’ KimChee…
Defeat Cabbage. Sad Face.
Hilarity from the KTRB team last night —
Vince: “Robert Buan just dug up the details on ‘Valley Fever’.”
Ken: “WebMD.com?”
Vince: “Right. It’s an infection. Caused by fungus, or fungi, that grows in the soil, then is stirred into the air, by construction sites, or dust storms … called strike one to Kennedy … it’s got a, uh, more technical name, it starts with a ‘c’, it’s about twenty letters long, I’m not even going to try to pronounce it …”
Ken: “Jakubauskas?”
…
On the television side, Ray and Glen were answering fan emails and exterminating viewer brain cells with even more efficiency than usual.
Glen: “Here’s a very straightforward one — how do you calculate ERA?”
[awkward pause]
Ray: “Well.”
Glen: “Here’s how you do it. You’re going to need a pad of paper.”
[another pause, apparently to allow time for paper pad procurement]
Glen: “You take the number of EARNED RUNS. EARNED RUNS. You multiply that by nine. By nine. Okay? Now you DIVIDE that by the number of innings pitched. And that’s earned run average.”
Ray: “Of course you’re looking at the pitcher’s earned runs, not the team’s …”
Glen: “Right, right. Though I guess you could calculate it for the entire team …”
Ray: “Yes. Of course.”
Glen: “So Biff in Pinole, there you have it. Earned Run Average.”
Ray (chuckling): “Did you know that off the top of your head? Or did you get one of the guys in the truck to look that up for you?”
Glen (also chuckling): “I had one of the guys do it. I had it all written down.”
Just reading that, I felt a few brain cells croak. I better write that down cause it sure as hell isn’t anyplace on the intertubes. If Biff in Pinole can email these guys he has got to be an idiot for not using this thing called google. Am I being too harsh here?
Is it too early to call us 15-25? Dan Haren vs. Edgar Gonebaseball…this could be a really ugly evening.
I’m going out tonight with the wife and kids. There are games at which the kids’ limited attention spans need for 4-5 trips away from the seats to points elsewhere can be an excruciating struggle to keep from missing the key moments of a taut game. I suspect that will not be the case tonight.
But the fireworks should be nice. We won’t miss any of those.
Nice! I took the little one to her first A’s game a couple of weeks ago. It was fun. The West Side Club is great for when you have an infant. High chair + view of the game + food = flawless victory.
I have to admit it will be nice to watch Haren pitch again, even if he will be making our hitters look foolish for 8 or 9 innings.
