    StopShufflingTheComments

    The entire story about Trayvon was made up. Unelected officials took over Washington and the media after the coup and cover up. Even most of the comments online are financed with your tax dollars. Big brother is trying to create the perception of public opinion while burying the truth. They think you can’t handle the truth. Fact of the matter is we have no democracy, president, and freedom of press is an illusion.

    Our next election is shaping up to be as big of a sham as the last. Do you know why Sarah Palin’s bus tour was really canceled? Do you know why she stayed 30 miles away from the second debate and chose the death of Steve Jobs to announce that she’s not running? Know what leaked out? Sarah Palin and Cain aren’t in the race for the same reason, the truth leaked out.

      I’ve often thought a majority of comments from comments sections were just terrorists trying to create political dissent in this country to cause it to tear itself apart. Odds are I’m probably right, though they’re more “accidental” or “unintentional” terrorists instead of some Islamic Fundamentalist group out there.

      • PDXAthleticsfan Mar 29,2012 4:07 pm || Up

        And I thought it was a ploy by the military industrial political complex to give people a way to think they are providing meaningful input to the world without actually doing so, thus nullifying meaningful subversive action.

      I would totally suggest Game of Thrones, except that I’m only two episodes in, so what do I know. Also, from these two episodes, I get the impression that it would be really confusing to watch if you haven’t read the books.

      • Bed Mar 29,2012 5:49 pm || Up

        We haven’t read the books. I have two friends trying to talk me into the show. I hear it’s really good but fantasy isn’t a genre that either of us are big on.

        But seriously, folks....

          I would give it a pass then. It’s not genre-bending enough, at least imo.

            As a counter-argument (and yes, I realize this is also countering my own argument four comments up), my gf claims to be enjoying Game of Thrones so far, despite the fact that a) she didn’t read the books and b) she is not at all into fantasy. I haven’t decided yet if I believe her.

      People really love Friday Night Lights. I haven’t watched it, but I’ll probably try to get to it sometime.

      I love Chuck. It had some rough patches (mostly in the 4th season), but overall, it’s a really fun show. (And, I think, it’s quite a bit more light-hearted than the other shows on your list.)

      Of those:

      Friday Night Lights bored me after an episode and I stopped.

      Game of Thrones Season One was tons of fun, and I’m very excited that Season 2 starts this Sunday. I’ve also started reading the book. If you like intrigue and adventure in a swordplay era setting, you’ll like it. Also, lots of hawt nudity.

      Boardwalk Empire. Kept watching it, because parts of the feature-film-maker-tries-TV aspects are good. But fundamentally, I say Steve Buschemi can’t carry a film or TV vehicle.

      Treme. Very disappointing. Watched the whole first season, the setting is great, some of the acting and characters are great, but ultimately the plot just never moves forward, especially once they try to move past immediate Katrina issues. It’s molasses.

      Chuck. No idea.

      Boardwalk Empire is a superior soap opera.

      Game of Thrones has Lord Thomas Carcetti, but bogs down trying to be faithful to the breadth of the books’ characters and plots. Sci-fi fantasy audiences are extremely understanding, so it all flies. It’s half-good with a lot of horsey parts.

      The Game of Thrones books are good, not great – the sexy parts read like Penthouse Forum. The staying power of the books are their easy reading and mainly the compelling, complex and sympathetic villains. And Arya Stark.

        I’ve got Joe Abercrombie next on my fantasy reading list. I’m told he does gritty/complex better, but we’ll see. GoT is quite good fantasy because there really are no heroes or villains, and people’s motivations make sense. Hell, the closest he comes to a pure altruistic hero is clearly designed to leave you with the impression that he’s an absolute moron.

                  speaking of comics. can i crowd source? am engaged in discussion about contemporary (nothing you’d see in the papers, even today. think my new filing technique is unstoppable and beyond, especially beyond) short comics (single panel or a few). i do not enjoy the ones i’ve seen. they’re cute enough drawings, but i find the humor RREEEEALLY dumb. i end up preferring the ones that aren’t trying to be funny but are just neat to look at. but there’s only one illustrator that gives me that.

                  no like. no like. yes like.

                  my friend may have just made a point by asking me which ones (besides charles’ random access) do i like? because maybe i do just hate all contemporary comics and only like charles burns out of reputation. so i’m wondering, anyone out there up on this stuff? can you give me some examples of good ones or ones you like?

                  XKCD is smart, but i think it’s a traditional comic with rough art. perhaps LICD drives in the point that contemporary comics just aren’t for me.

          Knew that was coming. They’ll be OK, so long as would-be Soph PF James Michael McAdoo sticks around. They’ll have three starter-quality 2 guards back, plus a new supposedly awesome point guard and a 6’10” guy.

          The real sadness was this year, because before Marshall got hurt in the tournament they were definitely a championship-caliber team (as is Kentucky). The years like this where they have a real chance at greatness and fall short are the ones that hurt the most.

          I would make having a good security detail priority number one.

          A quality financial team is two.

          My entertainment agent would be third, because I’d need a reality TV show ASAP.

          The only way I could handle the deluge of requests for money from pretty much everyone would be to deal with it on camera in full public view, researching and rewarding the non-crooked ones that touch my heart and offer the most long-term value for society. I would also mercilessly mock/defrock/expose the liars and fools who try to scam me. It’ll be like “To Catch A Predator” mixed with certain elements of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” It would absolutely KILL in the ratings. I’d have to tone down the transition for a couple of years and present as male until the ratings start to slip, and then WHAM BANG SLAMMO, I come back for Season 3 with ENORMOUS TITS!

        It started getting easier for me when the kids started to get into school. But you have to be willing to read more books that grab their attention. So if you can get them hooked on a genre you like, then it’s a double win.

        I also found I could get hooked on kids series really easy by seeing the joy when I read it to them. No there is an obvious limit to how much of a thrill I can get out of reading the complete works of Thomas the Tank Engine, but it’s better than them watching another episode of Spongebob.

                  might be too inside baseball, long and short is new Scotus cases on IAC suggesting a certain remedy I thought was applicable in this case because prosecutor made offer throgh email that never got to me or my client. The cases weren’t on point directly, but had enough spirit in them to be a colorable issue.

                  Anyway one of the co defendants cousel was a total ass, didn’t understand the issue (or another really huge isse we were getting to in my in limine #4, called me incompetent, and said he wanted me recused from the case.

                  Me and the other defense counsel (there were three co-defendants) actually started laughing at counsel table. The judge was slightly amused, and ultimately fashioned an acceptable resolution to us (not the DA) and we plead. there is more to it, for a FK up or something.

        They’re only one point out of the 3 slot even now, NHL seeding of division winners being what it is.

        Go 2-1-1 or better vs LA and Dallas (twice each) in the last four and they should squeak in as a 7 or 8. Even 2-2 if they beat the Kings twice could be enough. But they’re in a lousy place, especially since they suck on the road so badly.

        "Kraut will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no kraut."
        • mother pucker Mar 30,2012 12:33 am || Up

          If Dallas loses in regulation to Vancouver tomorrow (very possible), they’ll remain only one point in front of SJ heading into the home-and-home. So certainly they are not dead in the water yet, but having said all that, they have given no indication they are gonna turn this thing around.

          Random Sharks fact: their last victory over the Avalanche, was their first win by more than one goal in over a month! Ugh!

        Highest points-per-game of any team in the NHL as of the All Star break.

        Yeah, Niemi went through a stretch there from mid February to mid March where he just may have been one of the three worst goalies in the league not good. He is at least regressing to his norm, which is still not very good, but unfortunately now both Marleau and Couture have only been seen on the sides of milk cartons.
