Yesterday’s snack: kraut mix sprouts and wheat grass juice courtesy of Brooks and Daughters (yep, Jim’s a Sharks fan surprised he wasn’t sporting orange and black for the photo, though), juice container courtesy of F-K.com. We’re buying sprouts and “green juice” (as JP calls it — he loves it!) every Saturday around 10 at the FBFM.

Needz moar title!
Done! Weird WP bug logged me out … Think it may have been result of losing coverage.
I would just like to say that the Brooks are among the nicest
farmerspeople that I know. Also, Jim used to run this place that his family owned for over 100 years.Blessed are the (former 5th generation) cheesemakers.
Strangely enough, Jim is my Uncle-good guy.
small FKing world.

Speaking of the Sharks, they get a new Plush toy.
That’s fantastic.
I hope he gets into a “fight” on the ice.
ahem
A victim of Mark All Comments As Read.
paniagua means breadandwater. casilla means garcia. neither of those facts are mentioned in this story about dominican name-switching.
I mean… I couldn’t even come up with this stuff if I tried.
Thanks, and go As.
Actually, as Gingrich crazy goes, this one is less crazy than it might seem. Japanese public elementary schools all require their students to clean the classrooms. Apart from being too cute by half, it does teach teamwork and cooperation.
The linking of it to poor kids (and the anti-union animus, I guess) is the asinine part. If everyone had to do it, I wouldn’t have much of a problem with it.
It’s less about linking it to poor kids (though that’s the cover) than it is to black kids. If white kids had to do it — parents would be up in arms. (Well, black parents would be up in arms, too, but Newt, GOP primary voters, and the media don’t care about them.)
::rolls eyes::
Ideali wants me to go to Dubrovnik, Croatia – KAZBEK HOTEL.
I wonder if I would know anyone there.
if you have elcroata book the room for you, they might just give you the entire hotel to yourself.
with a harem.
Thanks, and go As.
[contemplates the possibility that Ideali IS EC…]
Seriously I want to go to Croatia tho. Trying to figure out how Im going to spend/save my tax return.
Christ, what an Aso
Quasi-honest question: should Romney convert to, say, one of the less charismatic Protestant denoms?
It would be a disaster for Romney — completely plays into the existing opinions that he has no actual convictions and would say/do anything for the nomination.
Completely agree.
So… tomorrow?
Future ed/nm bait
I think there’s a valid objection to the English-only postings (but I strongly suspect the most vociferous objections were probably from … English-only speakers), but the rest of it is CITY GUBMINT HANDS OFF MAH FREE STREET PARKING!!1!
Maybe they didn’t come down there and tell you. You’ve been away a long time–he don’t go by Future Ed no more.
I don’t?
Oh, I don’t. Whoops. I forgot to change it back.
Now that I think about it, do I need to?
Maybe later.
asvd
heh
neh
Yeah, I call bs on the objections to the meters themselves. The English only notices? Who the fuck didn’t know that was going to be a problem?
Agreed. If there’s enough demand that blocks are usually parked up, there should be meters. And that goes for my block too.
As the holder a a currently unpaid parking ticket, I want to go to one of those meetings in support of meters.
this. Also i wish there was a transponder than just charged me for the time i parked rather than having me guestimate. Also I would be more down if your neighborhood sticker got you some free meter parking maybe till 9 or 10 am if they are going to meter the fuck out of everything
we totally should
Im just saying if my neighborhood makes me pay for parking it shouldn’t make me wake up early.
I fully agree that making actually paying for your parking easier is a good way to make getting the money work. For example, I don’t even think about bridge tolls, since it autocharges my credit card every so often.
Fully automating things strikes me as a significant engineering challenge, but the new CC-accepting meters are a great first step.
I agree with this. ECs story about paying from the phone made me think there has to be an optimum price for meter/fine balance to maximize revenue. My guess would be that the punitive chicago style (that you described) or sf style may not be best for revenue.
I don’t know if revenue should be the goal, but it would be interesting to me. If any of you city planners know a source…
PS I resisted getting Fastrack till a few months ago because I hate taking peoples jobs, but they made it just. so. difficult. to pay a toll taker.
Yeah, but then they couldn’t pop you for expired meters and parking tickets.
Thanks, and go As.
but they would get more im only going to run in for a minute money.
I bet they’d still get plenty of “stayed past maximum time” type tickets.
Can I have $3.648M?
I actually prefer Priest St for unaffordable, rarely-available pedestrian-lane properties.
I like that one way more than the last one. Look at that bath tub. Holy fuck.
that bath tub terrifies me
No it’s cool, it’s like playing Portal.
Thanks, and go As.
It shore is purdy.
i really like the green house windows
So, the Android App for WordPress works now.
and it kinda sucks.
Thanks, and go As.
Yay? Um…
Busy following tonight’s English footie, and someone has just run onto the pitch at Goodison Park and handcuffed himself to a goalpost.
I say play on. That will make him think twice about doing that again.
nice.
Great men do great things in spite of their libido, not because of it.
Also: I did not know about the 31/18 thing. That’s, um, …
Also also: definitely adding “slapping a clown” to my euphemism armamentarium.
Shudder …
nice.
Great men also cry, monkey. Great men also cry.
Oh no.

So, there’s no way in hell that bill ever passes, right? I mean it would make politics SO much better, the lobbyists wouldn’t let it happen? Requiring each bill congress passes to only be about one thing? No riders, no pork?
Thanks, and go As.
1. This is the legislative polity equivalent of the flat tax
2. How would you pass something like, say, Obamacare? Or, say … anything?
3. Uh-huh:
In other words, pure grandstanding.
He’s still pissed off about the “You have to email me” rider to last year’s budget.
Well, I’m sure the entire idea would still be completely abused and loopholes exploited.
Obamacare: The bill has “one subject” — healthcare
It would just be nice to stop seeing all sorts of crap added on to bills in order to get votes
Thanks, and go As.
Just GOP obstruction.
They can make each bill take several months EVEN IF Democrats have a supermajority.
This looks fascinating, but having every single thought broadcast might be worse than being unable to speak.
#bedbait
Let the disabled broadcast it as a speech substitute.
Let the non-disabled shoot the data straight to storage where it can be accessed and analyzed by advanced programs.

Cute collar. I love that picture.
That’s a quality burn by Axelrod. And one very cute dog.
My aunt transports her two dogs in a way similar to Romney, and it makes my skin crawl.
If you can stand one more ballpark story, I interviewed Angela Woodall about her demise-of-Victory-Court piece in the Tribune.
nice. I love it when you do baseball stuff. Its always better when you know the reporter actually knows what she is talking about, rather than studying up for it that day.
OK, I noticed that one
Lol, good thing, huh?
Thanks EM, good stuff. A couple of addenda:
Woodall: “(w)hat they’ve done is shift the money — $4 million — from redevelopment into a city fund, I’m not sure if that’s a general fund or not.” Actually the money has been added to the list of “enforceable obligations,” agreements which localities claim are binding on their redevelopment agencies prior to the Feb. 1 dissolution date, and thus not subject to being returned to the State per the end of redevelopment. It remains to be seen how much the State will attempt to “clawback” of the various such agreements which every redevelopment agency in the state hurried to execute last year.
Re MLB preferring urban fabric ballparks such as JL Sq. MLB has actually backed off this stance. They’ll take a park wherever it can be built (once they’ve decided which county that might be in).
Woodall: “There’s ownership that’s interested in buying the team and keeping it in Oakland.” I’d really like to hear more about this.
OOoh OOh, please can it be Ellison?
Careful what you wish for. Larry’s be more likely to buy the A’s and the Giants, and fold the franchises together.
And switch the result to the America’s Cup.
Can you say “floating ballpark?”
As if he would pollute sailing with crass plebian sports…
#3, I suspect she intended to throw an “if” in front of that.
Nice job, EM!
This looks like fun.

what was that Michael DOuglas movie?
That looked funnier though
So uhh, for those who keep up on college football recruiting, and have been following the Cal recruiting situation since Benedict Lopui went to UW, and the recent exodus that has since transpired, are you guys having to fight the urge to puke as much as I am?
Seemed like a foregone conclusion since Tosh left that the class would fall apart. Hard to blame him though; UW is paying him a LOT. I guess we’ll see how much the demise of those oaks was worth…
I do not blame him for leaving, rather the timing of it all is just way too suspect. Too much to ask for any form of loyalty such that you stay till after 2/1? The money, which would have made him the 2nd highest coach on the Cal staff, obviously was huge, but one has to wonder if there was some other type of fallout between he and Ted.
But no, he is doing what his best for him, and I think any of us would probably do the same. I am curious though what motivates all these de-commits? What the hell did he tell Shaq Thompson before, and consequently, what the hell did he tell him to get him out? The whole thing just sickens me.
I’d certainly never hire him for a job. He essentially defrauded his employer.
I thought for sure this was #chrisdodd
what’s interesting to me is that the recruiter is supposed to sell the school to the athlete. That the athlete would follow the recruiter rather than the school he was sold on says a hell of a lot about the NCAA. And it isn’t good.
Wow.
MOAR primary please.
awesome
Agreed.
It’ll be fun to see him try though.
With the public attention span tuned to 30 seconds, he’s got plenty of time.
I just hope (likely futilely) that the Axelrod strategy won’t revolve around hitting Mitt as a flip-flopper. Oh, he used to hold less-abhorrent views than he does now? Let’s attack him for that, not the nonsense he’s currently spewing!
Hypocrisy charges are often crappy lines of political attack.
What? You mean an unregulated “marketplace of ideas” does not, in fact, produce good or socially useful ones, but merely produces the sort of ideas that are most needed for the people with huge sums of money?
I’m shocked. Shocked by this revelation, I tell you.
Newt Gingrich, man of science.
Truly fascinating, and my favorite part:
Of course de Waal’s bonobos-as-happy-humpers thesis has pretty much been blown out of the water.
