Although once we get settled in, posts like this will be in the sidebar (b/c they’ll be in the “Game Thread” category) and fantastically insightful posts by people like salb will have room to stretch their legs in the main space.
"There's never enough time to do all the nothing you want"
If DLD’s and game threads are automatically sequestered in the sidebar, there will never be anything in the middle of the page …
I understand the rationale, but I’m not sure how felicitous it will be in actual practice. I think people will want to navigate to the middle of the page for the current thread, whatever it happens to be.
Perhaps a reasonable compromise would be to leave DLD’s and game threads as “uncategorized” while they are in use/current, then plug them into the “DLD” or “Game Thread” categories (and thus the sidebar) once commentary has atrophied.
By the way:
I tried to log in using my prior username/password combination — no dice (“incorrect password”). So then I attempted to register as “74mk”, but was informed that that username already existed (“no shit”, I muttered). I went through each scenario a few times, threw up my hands, and decided that I’d be “mk” from now on.
I’m fine with my new name (change is good, the world keeps spinning, etc.), but you may want to make sure others are not encountering similar difficulties.
To both of you, if you want I think I can set you up with your old accounts (the issue is that they were created w/o sign in info on the import of FK 1.0)
"There's never enough time to do all the nothing you want"
I think your weakness is my feature. Once I get unread comment tracking working a bit better this weekend, I think people will notice new posts either way and I think people will take the time to do actual content if it sparks discussion (whereas MB’s song threads seem to promptly get buried by yet another dld)
"There's never enough time to do all the nothing you want"
Oh, also: I’ll stop saying it after this because I’m sure the plaudits just get embarrassing after awhile, but GREAT [insert enthusiastic capitalized expletive here] JOB on the site.
I’m pretty sure I’ve confirmed that the “Mark all comments as read” link doesn’t work quite right. I’ll fix that in the sandbox this weekend (will likely take significant coding).
The best thing to do is not click the link. If you do click it, the next best thing to do is to delete the cookies for this site. It means things aren’t quite perfect, but we will get there soon (and I hope to do comments in the db so that you can use the site from multiple computers without losing your place).
"There's never enough time to do all the nothing you want"
When I use z to move to unread comments my page gets left shifted until it is aligned with the leftmost edge of the comment’s bounding box. This is new since the move and extremely annoying!
What I like is monkey’s idea about doing different (funny) ads. In other words, you creative types download the new banner image and edit in whatever you like in the area where there is no text. Then we upload them all and have alternating funny-ad (or funny-scoreboard) banners.
"There's never enough time to do all the nothing you want"
Though the problem that you are going to have is in order to let people do that either we would have to upload them for people or you would have to give people access to the real guts of the WP set up which i think is generally a terrible idea. I mean we are already giving people a ton of ways of really really fucking up the site as is. Giving people even more of them… no bueno.
In play, run(s)! Talk dirty to me gamecast, talk dirty. - Nevermoor
I would like to point out that the sentences above are grammatically correct, though there is a misspelling. However if Baily is my nickname for Bailey, then the sentence is correct as it is a proper noun.
Really what I’m suggesting is that the Grammar Nazi Cat can fuck off.

What I learned by not turning the TV off:
1)Apparently everyone on the White Sox does crossword puzzles
2)CSN thinks this is interesting (Don Cooper is a teacher of pitchers and puzzles)
3)Gavin Floyd is extremely ugly
If you think it’s bad, imagine how unsettled the poor sap who miracled me and my pal with fourth row seats was, sitting next to me as I profusely sweated cheap beer sweat through my bright green The Town shirt while baking in the San Francisco sun.
"Kraut will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no kraut."
Can we please not have a:hover text coding in the css? Separate colors for visited links are fine, but the different colored links on mouseover bugs me.
az di bobe volt gehat beytsim volt zi geven mayn zeyde
(because I know that’s why everyone reads Free Kraut)
1. The spacing between paragraphs in comments could stand to be a bit wider, similar to how it is in posts. Paragraph breaks are sort of difficult to distinguish under the present setup (for me at least).
2. Is it possible to left-align the post titles? The indentation makes me feel seasick (though to be fair, it’s hard to differentiate between header alignment seasickness and creepy family portrait queasiness).
To protect his reputation as a fine upstanding Royals fan and cl0wn p0rn c0nsumer, I should point out that mikA bears no responsibility for anything beyond the first period.
Hunh. Not sure if this is intentional or fixable, or if I just didn’t notice it in the beta, but “read comments” appears to be a function of login + IP/computer, not just login — comments cleared from my home computer still register as “unread” from work.
you better hope to God you don't show up in this little community, because you'll wish you had never come

[edit]: Obtuse lamentations excised.
You can change it the same way every single person except you changed it at the last site.
I have no idea what you are talking about.
In your profile you can specify a nickname and choose to be known by that.
my dashboard——->profile——->enter nickname—->display publicly as
Right. Got it. Will do. Or maybe I will embrace change. Yes! I WILL embrace change!
Also: I did do that at the last site. You are mistaken, mikeA! Oblivious! Blinded by your Royals loyalty!
Shouldn’t the login we used for BetaKraut work here, though? Or no?
Apparently not. You need the 74.
Yeah, betakraut is different.
From your new account, can you change the settings of your old account? (I don’t know what editor privileges are)
To both of you, if you want I think I can set you up with your old accounts (the issue is that they were created w/o sign in info on the import of FK 1.0)
Same goes for LB (and green star oakland).
No need … I’m perfectly content as-is.
I’m fine too.
I don’t understand what the difference would be…oh…my name?
Right. (of course you can change your display name right now if you want, but I figured I’d offer)
I’m okay regardless.
14th level comment
15th level comment
Err… miscounted
badly.
Note: this is currently as far as replies are allowed. If this isn’t too narrow for you, know that nothing ever will be.
Because I never responded to your larger point:
I think your weakness is my feature. Once I get unread comment tracking working a bit better this weekend, I think people will notice new posts either way and I think people will take the time to do actual content if it sparks discussion (whereas MB’s song threads seem to promptly get buried by yet another dld)
Fair enough.
I’m skeptical, but point taken.
Oh, also: I’ll stop saying it after this because I’m sure the plaudits just get embarrassing after awhile, but GREAT [insert enthusiastic capitalized expletive here] JOB on the site.
And welcome to people as they hop in.

When will things be perfect?
Perfect? never.
This aspect working well? I assume end of the weekend.
Strike 3 to Cust was not even close.
Adam Kennedy has a pretty ridiculous swing.
When I use z to move to unread comments my page gets left shifted until it is aligned with the leftmost edge of the comment’s bounding box. This is new since the move and extremely annoying!
And now it has just spontaneously stopped doing it, which is extremely confusing.
No idea.
Let me know if it starts doing it again.
it’s doing it for me. highly irritating.
Can one of you send a screenshot? I’ll debug tomorrow.
Also, what browser are you using?
Hasn’t happened for me again since those first 10 minutes (Camino).
Still doing it. Will send you a shot of my Z’ing to your comment here. Using Firefox 2.0.0.20.
Note that for the super-high-level responses (the 14/15s above) it seems to run into a barrier, and only indents L to about a 7th-level or so comment.
You might want to try updating Firefox to 3.1
I would have given up on baseball if that ball had been caught.
It probably should have been caught. Tough play, though.
Is the alternating banner image intentional?
I don’t know I just got here. I like the other one and Ill probably end up changing it.
Your call.
What I like is monkey’s idea about doing different (funny) ads. In other words, you creative types download the new banner image and edit in whatever you like in the area where there is no text. Then we upload them all and have alternating funny-ad (or funny-scoreboard) banners.
Im down with that. I just liked the pallet of the other one with the title.
Oh I agree. I’d upload ’em when people email them to me.
Then im good with it. If you just put them in the folder theyll rotate, which might be cool.
Exactly. I like that feature of this theme a lot. and the theme itself is like this image
Good luck, kid. those boobs are like, Totally Fake.
I like the other one also, but we need Otter Pops on the scoreboard:
I can definitely do that. Im going to the land of the slegnA tomorrow so ill probably do that and up load it then.
I like this. New FK and my boy pitched quite excellently and the offense scores 7 runs. I can dig that.
There is absolutely no reason to use Baily here. His arm is going to fall off.
He hasn’t pitched since Friday, so I think it’s reasonable to get him some work here (especially with the day off tomorrow).
Look! An “e” fell off already!
I like the nazi grammar cat. He’s full of snark.
I would like to point out that the sentences above are grammatically correct, though there is a misspelling. However if Baily is my nickname for Bailey, then the sentence is correct as it is a proper noun.
Really what I’m suggesting is that the Grammar Nazi Cat can fuck off.
I put it there, not monkeyball.
Admin fight!
Fight! Fight! Fight!
(forms circle and waits for fk-punches to be thrown)
Who dat?
And anyway it should have been the spelling nazi cat.
NM + DFA: you guys fucking kick ass.
thanks. It’s a bit better, no?
Thanks! Nevermoor deserves the lion’s share of the credit.
Well, then, you and GraNaCat can fuck-off.
(Thanks, guys — I wouldn’t know where to start on a project like this one.)
Woo! Cust with another neck-stepping-on!
Another HR for Cunningham; another shitty start for Eveland.
Great call by Steve Bitker: “the wheels continue to unravel for Kansas City”
Can’t stand Bitker doing PxP. Nor do I want 6 innings of Cotroneo. Listened to GD 8/22/93 Autzen Stadium on XM while watching this game.
(Really just testing to see that I can post here.) (Also checking editing ability)
man that’s some bad shit right there… then again I guess it would suck to have your wheels unravel- not that that’s actually ever happened to anyone.
I saw someone’s right rear tire unraveling on 280 earlier this evening, and that looked like it really sucked.
Ouch.
I had the rear tyre of a borrowed motorbike unravel on the back road from Albuquerque to Santa Fe years back, and that was no fun at all.
Brian! Have you been here long?
My wife and daughter visited Eloise today. She has written a play that’s opening at the end of the month and needed a sheep’s head …
Do you ever see her at games?
Welcome!
{proffers jar of kraut}
What I learned by not turning the TV off:
1)Apparently everyone on the White Sox does crossword puzzles

Taking this thing out for a spin.
(and the edit function works too)
Sometimes I not so secretly wish LL was an A’s blog.
I just have to say, that semi-transparent floating menu in the top right is fantastic.
Excellent idea, beautifully executed.
Not my idea, but yeah. Pretty sexy stuff.
I’m going to see about modifying it to be a login link for signed-out people.
Just noticed that bylines no longer link to profiles. Occasionally I find that useful.
They didn’t on fk 1.0 either. If you add a website to your profile they link to there.
WordPress doesn’t really have profile pages the way ** does.
I guess that shows how occasional my use of that feature was …
Geez, I attend one friggin’ Giants game and everybody ditches me.
If you’d considered showering, we wouldn’t have had to move…
If you think it’s bad, imagine how unsettled the poor sap who miracled me and my pal with fourth row seats was, sitting next to me as I profusely sweated cheap beer sweat through my bright green The Town shirt while baking in the San Francisco sun.
San Francisco sun is an oxymoron.
That picture is… … …disturbing.
It’s just the Lewises.
The monk isn’t lonely, but should be.
Can we please not have a:hover text coding in the css? Separate colors for visited links are fine, but the different colored links on mouseover bugs me.
I can do it if it is something that bugs a bunch of people. I kinda thought it was cool.
Thanks for your hard work! I’m loving it so far. Also, thanks for the dark text on read comments.
Also, ‘the hell is up with that pic?
Thanks for all the great work, dudes.
Can we get rid of the green and gold?
Or can we somehow individually change that?
Also, why does it say “Ratto” in the top left?
Oh, I guess that’s just for new comments (I still don’t like the colors).
Ratto is a category.
(because I know that’s why everyone reads Free Kraut)
1. The spacing between paragraphs in comments could stand to be a bit wider, similar to how it is in posts. Paragraph breaks are sort of difficult to distinguish under the present setup (for me at least).

I can give that a try.
S, what, mikeA — two poundings at the hands of the A’s, and you abandon your boys in powder blue for the 1970s Pirates?
To protect his reputation as a fine upstanding Royals fan and cl0wn p0rn c0nsumer, I should point out that mikA bears no responsibility for anything beyond the first period.
is mikA your nickname for him like DFA’s “Baily”?
No – that’s what happens when you’re typing with a 3-year old who has just watched her first satellite launch re-enacting it on your lap.
Too late.
His boys did revert to Royals baseball last night. They were awful.
We didn’t get to see their Big 3. Also, Willie B. had an uncharacteristically quiet series with the bat.
Avatars are mostly gone and replacement disabled. Did I miss the memo?
Huh?
Avatars are “gone” because they were put up in betakraut (which is different). Are you having trouble uploading one here? What is the specific error?
When I go to Dashboard -> Profile it says:
“Avatar uploads not allowed (Administrator may set on Users » Avatars page).”
Where is the Users page?
Should be fixed. I forgot to edit that plugin’s settings.
Thanks
Ditto.
Hunh. Not sure if this is intentional or fixable, or if I just didn’t notice it in the beta, but “read comments” appears to be a function of login + IP/computer, not just login — comments cleared from my home computer still register as “unread” from work.
I believe they are cookie-based, if I am not mistaken.
Right. Although this weekend I plan to change that (esp. since the “mark all as read” link on the plugin doesn’t work).
Oh and FK-ing good job nm and DFA.
