Raiders v Chiefs: I wonder what odds you could get that all three Raider QBs, Boller Palmer and Pryor, take at least one snap today? I bet they all do. Hue Jackson is crazy, baby.
Rangers v Cardinals: Watch out Derek Holland! Nick Punto is 3 for 5 with an HR against you.
Protestors v Cops: Game called on account of stalemate? Oakland admin/cops thus far have not asked the gendarmes to implement Thursday’s eviction order. And the events at the Plaza today remain as scheduled…don’t miss the presentation on Indigineous Grandmothers at 2:00 pm.
monkeyball vs new co-workers: Be sure to trim your nose hair. No 2nd chance/1st impression etc.
In other words: Wear your A’s shoes, A’s socks, A’s sweat pants, A’s t-shirt, A’s sweatshirt, A’s coat, A’s tie, A’s sweatbands, A’s sunglasses, A’s hat, A’s watch, and A’s underwear or panties.
Or, just undies…and nothing else
ugh.
RIP Marco Simoncelli. Horrific freak crash in the MotoGP race.
Thanks, and go As.
Beautiful day, kids at the park, grass in my toes, life is good.
7 for 7!
One quarter, two Boller picks, two KC TDs. Can Pryor and Palmer be far behind?
Holy shit.
Good old flux pinning. I never thought of reversing the demo – we always would float a permanent magnet about a solid disk of the Cu-O superconductor.
The round track is particularly cool.
Awesome
Looong night that ended with Mia in the ER. She’s home now and seems healthy, so fingers crossed for good results on the blood work.
Oh man, you have my sympathy. We had our little miss specialK in Lucille Packard Children’s hospital for the better part of last week, and she did not finally get back to a normal sleep pattern until last night.
Glad to hear she’s doing better. It’s not fun having sick or injured kids.
Glad that the LeRoy and K children are holding up.
I am happy she is back and sad that she had to go. Hope all is well
Carson warming up!
Yay not-Boller.
Nice throw on his first play.
Not so much subsequently.
PRYOR TIME
Thanks, and go As.
Well, they have used 3 QBs already today, with the stupid 4th and goal call to Michael Bush from the direct snap.
I would like to see each of them throw an INT though.
Thanks, and go As.
I’ll settle for six total interceptions. Plenty of warm-n-fuzzies for me.
In fairness to Palmer, only two of his three were his fault.
And there’s that little thing of his having been with the team for six whole days. Oh, and him not taking a live snap in almost ten months.
I am not much of a football fan, but it occurs to me that football is purposfully different with every team. Recivers tend to go places they are told and quaterbacks need to know where they are going to end up. If you haven’t worked on that for a while, I imagine it would be hard.
Yep. Palmer looked bad, but a big part of that was probably that he wasn’t very familiar with his receivers. And that’s probably why he wasn’t starting in the first place.
The bad news is that he doesn’t have much time to figure it out before the season is lost, and that’s part of the risk of trading for a QB mid-season.
This. Which is why the price being so high for him was problematic. Their defense isn’t good enough to win games.
The price tag was obviously way, way too high. But the real issue is that Palmer just has not been very good over the last couple of years.
Then getting to your point about not winning a championship, which is true, they are worse off next year. I will take a healthy Campbell over Palmer. To actually pay the price of a 1st and a 2nd so that does not happen is just ridiculous. Like I said, depressing.
Makes you wonder why teams do not make a more concerted effort in that backup quarterback slot.
Niners had some guy a while ago named Steve somethingorother who backed up Montana.
Bono?
Thanks, and go As.
ptbnlb8
Yeah, but we all hated him for not being Montana.
Damn right!
Crap.
It is amazing how much damage Hue Jackson may have just done to the Raiders both long term, and short term. I am fking depressed!
But everybody liked the trade?
I liked the trade, but it would be stupid to revise an opinion of it either way based on today’s game.
Why not it shows that the Raiders are far from a championship team.
Hee hee hee.
That’s odd, it was there an hour ago, and it’s still prominent on the VTH home page. Reached it via this Trib story tease.
Story was, a groundskeeper showed up at a Vallejo park this AM and heard a guy yelling for help. Turned out the 21 year old guy (claimed) he bet friends $100 that he could fit into one of those rubber strap toddler swings. He lubed himself with dishwashing detergent, slid in, then couldn’t get out. Then his friends ditched him, leaving him stuck for 9 hours until the next morning.
I’ll get into a toddler swing for $50.
But you wouldn’t even need lube.
Sssssh.
I’ll take some of that:
Short jokes aside, I can barely get the 5 year old out of one of thoses when he insists on trying, I can;t imagine anyone over 4 and a half feet tall can easily get out of one.
St. Louis has scored first in every game they’ve played this postseason (the radio told me).
You’d better believe what you are told
You’d better listen to the radio.
Is it (wild goose) chase or wild (goose chase)?
Is attempting to chase a wild goose a wasted effort? Or does it take the goose chase to become wild in order for the effort to be a waste? (My gut reaction was the latter with a “duh”, but upon reflection, I’d guess the former.)
I honestly don’t know. Suspicious nickel asked me today what a wild goose chase was, and I explained but didn’t *explain* it.
Apparently it’s wild-goose chase.
Very polite of the entire NFC West to lose in our bye week.
Heh, at one point do 9er fans start rooting for the NFC West teams, if they are playing another division leader?
Combined 3-15 this year, and one of those wins was a game against each. That’s impressive.
Also impressive: the Rams have lost by an average of almost 20 points.
What happens if the Rams end up with the 1st overall pick? If I were the Raiders, I would trade my first round pick in 2012 and 2013 for Bradford, oh wait….
You call the Broncos and trade it as many other picks as you’d care to ask for!!!!!!!!!! WWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ask me if I care about this World Series. Go on…ask me…
So…do you care about this World Series?
Tonight’s game was actually an enjoyable game to watch.
Tim McCaaaaaaaava’s color commentary is like listening to a video game where everything is pieced together from various sound files intermixed with completely random nonsensical anecdotes that have nothing to do with anything. For that matter, so is Buck’s pxp.
ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US
I was just thinking that the one good thing about baseball season ending would be 5 months without McCarver.
Or, if you limit yourself to A’s games exclusively, forever.
this.
Yeah, we’ll never make it back to the playoffs :-(
1. When we do, we’ll surely be shuffled off to a broadcasting backwater like TBS
2. McCarver has a heart condition; it could be a close race.
cmon, heart!
MLB’s playoff TV rights are up for grabs soon and there’s a lot of interests from multiple networks. Crossing my fingers someone (ANYONE) else wins them.
I was really bummed the other day when Fox won the World Cup rights for 2018-22. You just know they’re gonna not show all games, and grossly over-Americanize it.
and have joe buck as lead announcer
He shoots on the goal….score.
I think they could actually do worse with Thom Brennan.
I wish Ian Darke would call all the soccer games, and baseball too.
Even not knowing the game or lingo, Ian Darke kicks Joe Buck’s ass eight ways from Sunday.
This should be fact checked, but I thought the WC scheduling is such that at most there are two matches showing simultaneously, so in theory Fox could use the main channel and FX?
I would think that FIFA would require all matches to be shown as part of the contract.
I don’t assume this. Until the last World Cup that was never done for the US broadcasts, even when the damn thing was held here.
I think up to 3 matches can take place at the same time. The question isn’t when Fox could show them all…their umbrella of Fox Sports Channels means they surely could…but whether they’ll choose to do so.
my 3rd biggest complaint about buck is he makes every play, every pitch seem like the most important thing that has ever happened to humanity.
while sounding bored that he’s even there in the first place…
I was going to say the exact same thing word for word after reading Ed’s post.
Derek Holland should give that mustache back to the 14 year old boy he stole it from.
Even McGuffer will have a hard time fellating TLR over that call.
I like the nickname. Muted.
So… Peyton Manning really was all that.
Aren’t good quaterbacks way more valuable than any other position player in any sport?
Very much so, especially when the league has reinvented itself to cater towards good quarterbacks.
Thanks, and go As.
Sure, but the difference between zero and 9-10 wins?
Nobody fears Curtis Painter.
Lots of people fear(ed) Peyton Manning.
Thanks, and go As.
Heh. Initially I thought you were making up a funny name for Carson Palmer. It took me a moment (and a little checking) to realize who that was.
what is replacement level?
Suck?
Reminds me of a Dick Vitale-ism, when David Robinson was with the Naval Academy:
With David Robinson, the Midshipmen are national contenders. Without him, they’re McHale’s Navy.
When you go to all that effort, spell-check fail is particularly egregious.
That can easily be fixed through Photoshop. It’s really their laziness that bothers me.
I have a few friends of Libyan decent, including some whose relations disappeared under Ghadaffi. Judging by their statuses and the sundry comments, American Libyans really hated that dude.
He’s right
it sounded to me like “you bought a weather balloon with points?
suspicious nickel loves that commercial. When I ask him if wants to watch highlights on the computer, he asks if we can watch the balloon highlight, too.
Good luck this morning, monkey! You’re gonna kick ass, dude! Go! Wooo!
Wear pants!
almost always a great idea.
preferably your own.
I do not endorse this statement.
I do endorse LB’s.
so whose pants are you wearing today?
I don’t think you can truly understand another man until you sit at your desk for hours in their pants.
Today, I’m working on understanding me.
I’ve been to
paradisesomeone else’s pants, but I’ve never been to me.Ha! I love that song.
me too
Make sure you get the
spinachkraut out of your teeth before your welcome speech. The only big negative so far in cutting down my cannabis consumption is that I have so much more energy now, but nothing particularly valuable to do with it.
Pleasure your wife.
That’s my number one priority of course… although maybe not in the exact way you’re thinking about.
Besides, my wife likes meat more than sex anyways.
I don’t care how you do it, just do it man! Fire up the grill and cook some meat!
