Not to me it’s not!
That 10th draft position is within reach!
You were more excited by the Mets/Reds game?
ITS STILL REAL TO ME!!!

The Seattle Mariners vs. Oakland A’s game is so uninteresting, it can’t even finish 1st in a “Most Uninteresting” contest. Because that would draw interest

c.f. Interesting number paradox
If Willingham is going to hit #30 he’s going to have to supply all the power because Vasquez doesn’t supply any.
Jai Miller certainly supplied all the power right there.
I think the Mariners decided to reward their left-handed BP pitcher for his hard work all season by letting him throw a few innings in September games.
It’ll be funny if Miller ends up being a better player than Carter or Taylor.
I certainly have swung over to the “Carter looks like he’ll never be a big league hitter ever” camp.
He really, really needs to get the FKing job every day so he can adjust like he’s done with every damn level he’s been at. A couple 20 game stints isn’t gonna do anything.
Thanks, and go As.
That’s a wise view, and I of course hope you’re right. But man, he sure is avert-your-eyes ugly now.
I don’t really see the wisdom in it.
as opposed to calling him done after 100 PAs in MLB?
Another Carlos Pena, blah blah, blah blah, whine whine…
Yes, the real wisdom is making amateur scouting assessments based on small sample size.
Or as N*** would call it: analysis.
The problem with whatever argument you are trying to make is that Carter is simply not a very good prospect to begin with. Players who strike out in the minors as much as he has rarely turn into even decent major league hitters (and yes Jai Miller has the same problem in an even bigger way), and given his horrible defense he’s going to need to be a whole lot better than decent as a hitter in order to have any value.
On the other hand the idea that all he needs is regular playing time seems like pure wishcasting.
The argument he’s making is “wait and see and don’t say he’s finished after 100 scattered PA’s”
A) We suck. B) We’re going to suck. C) Might as well know without a doubt instead of find out after going elsewhere that he can hit. D) Might as well know without a doubt instead of find out after going elsewhere that he can hit when we SUCK.
For those that see no difference between a mediocre team and a godawful team, that makes sense. Having been a fan of both of those types of teams in various sports, I don’t share that opinion.
Carter’s shown the ability to control the K’s as well.
He’s had 121 PA split over 2 years, we don’t know what he can do in the Show.
This has nothing to do with what I think of Chris Carter. For the record, I’ve argued since early 2010, after his excellent 2009 season, that he was a prospect I wasn’t as high on as other people were, because of those strikeout issues.
That doesn’t mean other people with far more credibility than me don’t like him. BA, and other various publications, ranked him as a top 100 prospect this season. He’s made their top 100 list 3 years in a row, including #28 a year ago. I would hardly consider a player who was once the top 28 prospect “simply not a good prospect to begin with”.
But all of this is besides the point. Mikev stated that he should be given more than a ~100 PA sample spread over two years to prove his abilities. You indicated that you’ve already made up your mind based on the small sample of what you’ve seen. At least to me, it’s clear who’s making a more substantial argument.
Now you two are twisting things around. It’s not that I’ve made up my mind – it has nothing to do with what *I* think of Carter either. Maybe he will defy the odds and turn into a good major league hitter some day.
But given all the evidence – his minor league numbers, plus what he has (or mostly hasn’t) accomplished in those limited big league opportunities – the case for handing him a full time job seems incredibly weak.
I agree that Carter’s minor league numbers aren’t spectacular for a DH. And in circumstances where the team is competing and/or have a capable performer ahead of him on the depth chart, he absolutely shouldn’t just be handed a starting job.
But this team is under neither of those circumstances. You made the argument that you would rather see a mediocre team than a godawful one. Given Matsui’s replacement level performance, you realize that he’s one of the things dragging the team towards “godawful”, right? Carter, at least, is a lottery ticket you have a chance at being able to cash in.
the A’s will have an opening at DH after this year and before thursday “surprise announcement”
Alex Anthopoulos would be happy to give him that opportunity.
Vince wants Joe maddon to get manager of the year regardless if he finishes in 3rd place or not
I’m so bored with the A’s right now I’m really only listening to this game so I can hear KenKo and be happy he’s staying.
KenKo’s voice tonight is pleasant, like the nitrous at the dentist’s office.
I’m so bored with the Oakland A’s I’m so bored with the Oakland A’s I’m so bored with the Oakland A’s But what can I do?
green and gold riot
I fought the Lew and the Lew won.
Lew wolff in Diridon Palais
Should I Go Or Should I Go?
Why can’t MLB.tv just say he fuck it. Ed there is only two innings left in the season, we will lift the blackout for you. Enjoy.
Dear A’s. Please lose this game. Thanks.
Why? Thought the draft pick was fairly locked in…
Nope, Colorado has one more lose. If we lose, we’re tied and they had a better record last year.
So they go from #11 to #10…
Yup. Not “big” thing per se, but still.
No. Not gonna spoil Gio’s game…
BUT THEN WE WON’T HAVE THE MOMENTUM FOR NEXT YEAR AND THE KIDS WON’T LEARN HOW TO WIN.
Huh, Gio has never thrown a 9-inning complete game.
And he still won’t yet.
We love you too ken
Anybody seen NM around?
I’m FKing around with the Android wordpress app and getting an Error 500 trying to log into FK.
Could you try adding these 2 lines to the .htaccess file — the google is telling me that might be the problem:
AddType x-mapp-php5 .php AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php
I’m here. I’ll look at that tomorrow.
No worries, I’m about to go to sleep so I won’t be able to FK around with the Android app until tomorrow evening.
Yeah. That broke the site.
Dang. I was hoping to use the Android WP app, too. Oh well, thanks for trying.
Maybe it’s that we aren’t running WP3?
I wonder if there’s a theme or something that makes WP2 work in android? Unfortunately I just have a 25 year old blackberry, so I can’t test anything.
I’ll be up and around for awhile if you wanna FK with it.
Can’t tonight. Still at work.
The two of you should meet up at a bar with a wireless connection so he can test it out and the two of you can get a little alchyhol.
That sounds like a lot more fun than what I’ll actually be doing for the next several hours.
Found some more info…

It appears we ARE on WP 2.92… so maybe just that XML-RPC access needs to be enabled.
I don’t have the ability to do that.

We are on 2.9.2. That box was checked, so I unchecked it/saved/checked it.
Did that help?
lemme keep digging.
all my searching is leading me to some type of syntax error in the .htaccess file, or perhaps one of the plugins we are running on the WP install.
It could very easily be a plugin issue. I know our RSS feed doesn’t work, so maybe that’s connected.
IDK. Perhaps backup the .htaccess file, replace it with a blank one, and let WP rewrite it and see if that fixes it.
That’s more involved than I feel comfortable doing from the office. I’ll try it this weekend (and don’t be shy about reminding me Saturday)
works for me
Yay! One more victory!
Well, in spite of all the suck it was a pleasure to enjoy 162 games with all of you.
Yes indeed. Lots of fun sharing 2011 Kraut bytes with you folks.
So what. You’re leaving us? You bastard!
A quick, tidy victory. Wonderful way to end things.
The A’s & M’s were the final regular season game to finish in 2011, and will open the season in 2012. Just wait ’til next year.
(Feel free to pile on with comments regarding the futility of both teams/years/etc.)
Don’t mind if I do…
With all the talk about signing Crawford for his otherworldly defense last offseason, it’s rather ironic he didn’t make the sliding catch on Andino’s ball.
Okay. Now what?
Let’s all panic.
you are a baseball fan now
I almost tracked that clip down myself in response to Poppy.
I either haven’t seen it, or it’s been since … Iunno, late high school? that I have. Forgot/never knew that it’s got both Peter Boyle (playing a Pat Caddell manque) and Allen Garfield (an early De Palma regular).
You know, I think that movie in particular has colored my view of the political process my entire life.
