I know there’s not more than handful of you who give a FK about this, but I think I’m going to spend the day nursing an incommensurate sense of loss.

Is this memo from 1988?
Hey, I said “incommensurate”
I never thought of you as: shiny, happy, person.
Eh…someone will back a dumptruck full of cash into their various driveways in five years and persuade them to do a greatest hits tour, doubtless with a Super Bowl halftime show included.
They all seem like reasonable guys (Michael Stipe excepted). I bet they don’t NEED the cement mixer full of cash (Michael Stipe excepted). I would never say never, but I say much less likely than a similarly situated rock act.
I was about to be all cynical and ask what the over/under on # of years before the reunion tour, but I’ll hold off on the odd chance they’ve made enough $$ to hold them. R.I.P. REM, I thank you for being part of my life
‘ssoundtrackrich pageant. In 5 years, they’ll do a 3-night gig at Philips Arena, playing Murmur, LRP, and Fables through each in its entirety, proceeds entirely to benefit, respectively, Greenpeace, Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation, and the Defeat President Perry in 2016 PAC.
So will 404.
Just how old is your computer, anyway?
Not very?
Oh, now it opens.
I really liked them. I still think that a concert on Donauinsel in Vienna where they and Cranberries played is my favorite one.
I feel fine.

Awesome.
Hunh…grover’s nowhere to be found.
Some drunken hoodlums tried to light Oscar’s garbage can on fire, so he’s probably putting that out.
I thought putting out was Bert/Ernie’s job.
NM B8…. ouch
You dare sully this nonGrill post with football talk?
Shit… I did post it in the wrong thread. We can fight if you want but who will turn out the lights
I will. I’ll trip you first, turn out the lights, set off the fire alarm, and tell the police you did it.
FLAGGED!
Yeah. No fun.
Though the lawsuit thing is stupid. When players don’t sue it’s taken as evidence everything is true. When they do, they’re being petulent children.
this, and his bad boy rep did hurt him on the market.
Out of Time was the first cassette I ever owned.
1. I’ve always liked their version of One (favorite covers alert!)

2. “Everybody Hurts” is an all-time top-10 music video
3. I will always associate the Losing My Religion video with my dad walking into the room and asking, “What the hell are you watching?”
4. I missed most of their early catalog due to youth, but for about six months in high school all I listened to was Automatic For the People and Monster. This musical choice, shockingly, did not impress the ladies.
RE 4: How old are you?!
Old enough that both of those albums predated my matriculation in high school.
Rather, young enough I should say…
Well, go get a copy of their first album, “Murmur.” I personally think they never topped it.
I was a hipster before it was cool to be one.

One more memory:
My folks didn’t want to pay for me to take a Driver’s Ed class so they told me to enroll in the class in summer school the year before my senior year of high school. One of our assignments was to plan a road trip, complete with time and money budgets, and then write a fake diary telling the world of this non-existent trip. Think of it as a pre-cursor to travel-blogging, except totally fake.
One of the details I threw in to my report was that I “stashed plenty of U2 and REM tapes in the glovebox.” When I got the assignment back, the teacher specifically commented on that sentence, writing in red pen that it was “a good use of detail.” So that’s another REM memory.
Incidentally, I was not a typical summer school student and so my report was clearly the best in the class (a low bar, needless to say). The teacher was so impressed that he sent it to the district office so that teachers who taught the class in the future years would see what a good fake account of a non-existent road trip would look like. It, along with the gum I stuck under the desk in 10th grade math, is my legacy to the Mount Diablo Unified School District.
Neat. I just that as “gun I stuck under the desk…” which would have created a whole other kind of legacy.
“Can you get me off the hook,
TomPrincipal Diablo? For old time’s sake?”
