From FSU’s original thread:
official 3:30 PM start time, with coals hot by 4:00 … But early arrivals are welcome, as by 2:30 or 3:00 at the very latest I and a few of my minions will be set up in the North (“Aâ€) lot of the Coliseum, somewhere around row 6 or 8 or 10 or so …
… a big white canopy which should be easily seen from dozens of yards away. If you need more landmarks, the Upgrade family blue Toyota Sienna minivan will be alongside…(FSU edit; no truck today)
Folks who didn’t RSVP for tickets are of course quite welcome and in fact encouraged to attend (regardless of their internet preferences). And we’re up in Sec. 316 for anyone brazen enough to try to upgrade to those prime seats.
KRAUTGATE! @ 3:30, A’s vs Twins @ 6:05, monkeyball vs the clock all day long.
See you in Lot A
Question: we have a friend who wants to tailgate with us but needs to leave before the game. Is there a way for her to park elsewhere and join us without paying for the Coli lot? Would need to be walking distance. I know some of you have mentioned the BART lot in the past but I don’t know where/what that is. Thanks.
Here’s a map a friend made showing BART lot parking relative to where we’ll be. It’s about a 10 min walk.
If you’re Google mapping, the BART lot is at the corner of Snell St and 71st Ave.
One can also park on one of the small streets just off Coliseum Way, on the other side of 66th Ave from the Coli lot entrance. That might be a slightly shorter walk. In either spot, there’ll be other A’s fans walking around so she won’t feel too much like she’s all alone in industrial Oakland.
I think this is approximately how one would drive to the BART lot: http://www.bart.gov/stations/closest.aspx?address=880+and+66th&to-from=to&station=x&dir=d (I’ve only been there once). But then it would just be a matter of your friend walking into the BART station and up the stairs to the pedestrian bridge that takes her to the Coli…
The BART lot is directly behind the Coliseum BART station (bordered by 70th, Hegenburger, Snell, Hawley). There should be available spots if you get there early enough to tailgate.
Another option in a different direction is on Independent Rd off of Coliseum Way. It’s a bit industrial looking, but not at all dangerous.
Either one is about a 5-10 minute walk from where we’ll be set up.
Really?! Damn, you’re a good citizen.
Is anyone bringing utensils?
Yes, got utensils wired.
Plates?
No one else ever need be napkin and paper cup guy (or utensil and plate gal) at any tailgate I’m planning.
Did you splurge at the Costco?
HE’S PITCHING TONIGHT
Thanks, and go As.
he is.
That sounds like a relatively safe bet — map can be enlarged here: http://www.bart.gov/stations/cols/neighborhood.aspx
Looks like 880 to Hegenberger, exit San Leandro Blvd, go through that intersection and left into the lot.
Then she can walk through the station and up over the bridge toward the Coliseum, bearing right, into the north lot. Frivolity will ensue.
Thanks all, knew I could count on you. Better than Ask Jeeves.
Sorry,OT
Is there a way to search for my own comments? I know I posted some table (what else?) some time ago, but can’t remember where I have it on my PC
There’ll be a seminar on the topic at KrautGate.
C’mon down!
I’d love to
Best solution is probably to hope that NM does not become crab food this afternoon. If you need it sooner than that, was it a post, to which there might be searchable snarkitude, or just a comment ?
I think that source code does up in the source. So if you linked an image of the table and remember the host server, you can search for that.
Thanks, this worked
Yeah, the search function searches all text in posts and comments (including HTML code). It works best with single word searches, though. If you’re wanting to do more involved stuff, there’s a search function in the comments section of the dashboard.
I’m surprised it worked considering how badly I butchered the first sentence. “…source code shows up in the search.” natch
If you have KRAUThor privileges: “Dashboard” (in the semi-transparent box floating in the upper right), then “Comments” (on the left), then use the search box there to search for your name.
Bloom Alert 2011
It looks as if Matt (DMOAS) is in the business of passing kidney stones today, and cannot come and get my fat butt. So…you may have to struggle on without me today. I know it’s rough…
I feel bad for both of you.
sad. But I’d rather be me than him.
Ouch, no doubt a bummer for him. Sorry to hear you won’t make it.
sucks all around
Have you heard from him, is he feeling better?
not today. yesterday was rough I think…
I’m alive and well… and still nothing passed. I think that’s the third time now it’s circled the drain and nada.
#boehner #debtceiling
Beachhead established. Row 8 by the concrete barricades.
Needz moar charcoal, ice, coolers, anything?
Leebin’ in 20 minutes — will check here or call 415.307.1600.
o/o
So, I guess the people in my clan aren’t as gung ho about getting there early for tailgating. Since I’m relying on them for transportation, I’ll likely be arriving between 4:30 and 5.
I hope you guys are having fun. Just got back from DC and cannot really get out this weekend
Not what you want from your prized acquisition.
First (back from the FKing ballgame)!
Yeah, but are your kids in bed yet?
JP was asleep by the time we got to Embarcadero BART
Hopped up on hot cocoa and the like, both kids made it home and put together a Fox in Socks puzzle before hitting the sack.
Good times, FKers.
Thanks, and go As.
So — Blyleven stood next to us at Powell Station, then on same BART car … and whom do we see walking up to us at Coli BART coming back! He mentioned how JP was now on his way home, chatted us up a bit, I offered my serious congrats on HoF, etc etc, he did exploding fist bumps with JP, encouraged me to board before him when the SF train came in. Very nice man. (Treated us better than the drunk Twinkiesfansnext to us.)
Nice!
Thanks, and go As.
WOW! How cool is that!
very cool. Did drunk twins fan care about bert?
Did he circle you?
Nice!
Man. I missed that too?!?
Thanks to one and all for a thoroughly wonderful afternoon. In particular, FSU for initiating and organizing the ‘gate, and TDF for emceeing and (I presume) being ringleader behind the shirt. That was awesome.
[sigh]
Our Peerless Primate:
And this man herded the cats to the Collie: Our hero — Thanks, FSU!
F! S! FUUUU!
That’s two awesome jerseys/shirts
I want a shirt like FSU’s that commemorates La Lista de Dañado
Now that I can’ say it too: THANKS for the #2 Jersey. You guys are awesome.
You’re number two!
Who… does… number… two… work… for???
#burtward
Wonderful time was had by all suspicious change. It was great meeting everybody, especially all the little FKers (eight-week old JediElroy was particularly cute, and ptbnl looked like he might not let him go). And super thanks to…shoot, who gave me those balls…Poppy? Well, thanks for the balls. And super super thanks to andeux for the awesome Hatteberg pin, I hope the hug didn’t freak you out too much.
All of you guys are great, and I hope we can do it again. What fun!
I always knew you were a DFH like the rest of us.
In real life you guys don’t talk about politics at *all*
We were talking in code. “Beer” = Krugman. “Barton” = Obama.
I like Beer and hope Barton can start getting on base more.
I think Beer is an arrogant douche.
I would totally buy a beer called “Arrogant Douche.”
Yeah, I’d bet you’d drink it, too.
:-)
That’s what I was going to bring if I was able to make the FK shindig.
Cold or super cold?
It’s the beard, isn’t it?
That may be true… it’s also got the solution to all of life’s problems.
Absolutely wonderful night. Great to finally meet Monkeyball, Sal, PTBNL, FSU, TDF, sslinger, Soaker, Poppy, Ice Cream, andeux, DFA, MikeV (we might’ve met at AN day a few years ago), oblique, and all the family and friends of all of you (sorry if I’ve missed anyone). Pretty sure I also saw Batgirl. Thanks to PTBNL for the A’s onesie, Poppy for the awesome BobbleCust, and to Ice Cream for the awesome bobbleheads.
Apologies to Monkeyball and the meesus for Kelsey’s wildness, and thanks to all who gave me and my wife a break by holding a kid or two (PTBNL). We were all quite tired and will sleep like logs tonight. I only wish I had more time to chat with all of you.
Apologies for the rail-obstructed seats; I thought I’d impressed upon the A’s ticket dude that we needed to be high enough (ahem) to be clear of that 3rd deck problem.
[sigh] [sigh]
Oh and nevermoor, I hope you enjoyed your whale-hunting excursion and I hope it was successful in procuring oil for your lamps. As was pointed out during the tailgate, watching the A’s is just like watching a whale. A beached whale. With the flailing and struggling. The knowledge that none of it will do any good. The rotting, the complaining of locals. The eventual blowing up of the remains. The screaming and terror as parts of the roster begin raining down and smashing cars. (at this point mrs. coin pointed out that the analogy had become strained).
Better things, for bits o’blubber, through chemistry.
It was awesome (though, of course, any other saturday…). We saw approximately umpteen humpbacks (seriously, at one point there were like 10 around the boat so there was near constant spouting/fluking), and were able to get close enough to hear the noise the fluke makes. We saw three Blues (which kind of blows your mind because you think humpbacks are big, then the blue is like double their length). We saw a bunch of dolphins (including a pair that swam in front of our boat for awhile), a bunch of porpoises, sea lions frolicking, and more kinds of birds than I could keep track of.
It’s probably once-in-a-lifetime, but very very worth doing (when all your kids are >10)
Oh, and it was cool hanging out with inbillywetrust at the tailgate. Stop lurking. Start posting here.
This This This… also Smugglers Cove!!!
suspicious penny became immediate friends with inbillywetrust, I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to tear them apart when he had to go to his own seat in a different section. FKers are pretty much all good with kids.
I’m horrible with children. They hate me.
What if I start reading them Joyce so you have something in common?
that might work…
agreed.
I’d like to see danmerqury here too.
I don’t know if I’m just imagining shit or what. I’m like 90% sure he posted here a couple times.
Thanks, and go As.
He did. But he should come here more often.
PS What do you think of the Photon? Im thinking of getting it in 2 or 3 weeks so that I can get off the crap that Im dealing with and then if the Galaxy SII/Iphone/something beastly comes out in September then I can return it and get whatever.
I was going to mention that to you yesterday.
It actually looks pretty kick good, hardware wise, especially if you’re not going to tweak it or anything and just use it the way Sprint releases it. Personally I’m not a big fan of Motorola but that’s because HTC and Samsung devices have been much easier to hack and put custom ROMs onto.
Thanks, and go As.
Im a tinker er so thats a consideration, but i need a real phone asap
That was tons of fun (except for pining for Bloom) (dialing for dollars? bowling for soup?)! Loved hanging out with everyone who was there, meeting the folks I hadn’t met (or at least didn’t remember having met) before, and seeing all the horrifyingly adorable little FKlings… :)
And the A’s won!
And I don’t know why I put this as a reply to Sal, as if I was also hanging out with inbillywetrust… which, as far as I know, I wasn’t… because I don’t think I met him… :\
Hi Poppy! (I’m looking at you, really I am…)
But in that shifty, out-of-the-side-of-your-head way.
Blooming for pine?
Anyone else take pics? If you’ll send them to me, a collage might ensue. tfcmail@gmail.com Box prolly has 10MB limit/email. Whales included.
No whale pix, sadly. We grabbed the film camera instead of the digital one (it was, after all, 6 am on a Saturday), and then it turned out to be nearly out of batteries.
Only (non FK) bummer of the day.
Anyone get a picture of FREE KRAUT! on the scoreboard? I missed it, alas.
It was teeny… it was on one of the “list” screens, not having the whole screen to itself.
No, I sent a text during that weird Verizon text message thing but it didn’t go onto the screen.
Thanks, and go As.
I really regret missing you all yesterday.
…all except dfa, the dirty little Slusser-hater.
hahahaha love you too!
Slaters gonna slate
The medal winners at FKBeerfest included sslinger’s Coney Island Lager and ptbnl’s Green Flash West Coast IPA, both of which were included in my $80 stock-up purchase at the Auburn BevMo on the way back up the hill today.
Well Im just saying that my Green Lakes was gone by the time I got back from Matsui gate.
Was that the Republican beer? Because that was actually pretty good…
You drank beer?
Um… yes…?
…and I missed it?
It’s not a rare thing.
hmmm.
o_O
You never drink beer around me.
I’m sure I’ve had a beer at a game with you. I don’t usually have more than one at a non-tailgating game that I’ve driven to, so maybe you just didn’t notice it.
The Most Interesting Fan at the KRAUTGATE!
Stay not-careening-off-the-San-Mateo-Bridge, my friends.
Needs more Schaefer
‘cuz you don’t even get a buzz until after you crack open the fourth one…
Green Lakes from Deschutes Brewery. One of my favorite beers and its only moderately priced.
I’ll echo the sentiments expressed by all, it was a great time, great to see everyone and their offspring. It was nice to have such a great turnout for it.
And after today’s game Andeux has now seen two wins in a row, so I think the jinx is officially off.
The little puddle-jumpers, however, had no fun at all.
So how many pictures do you have with incidental Jedi-in-law backgrounds?
They were EVerywhere! By the way, ya no dat t’ing we tawkd about? No, not DAT t’ing; de udder t’ing. Yeah, DAT t’ing.
We oughtta do dat t’ing.
Well, say when, so I can get a head start on remembering how my computer-with-a-lens works… ;)
Yeah, an’ dat udder t’ing. too.
The one with the guy?
Yeah. Buncha dem.
Okay, at this point I have no idea what you’re talking about…
That was fun, all! And I echo the sentiment that the little Krautlings are a darling bunch of children. Schedule FK day to coincide with Dog Day next year and we’ll really have something going ;)
[sigh…]
Lily would be in heaven walking a dog at the park.
Might help suspicious penny get over his fear of dogs. Or it would traumatize him. Either way.
I’m sure I could help. I love dogs.
Might help suspicious penny get over his fear of ex-sign makers. Or it would traumatize him. Either way.
Fear isn’t always bad.
but…free candy, NM!
You can’t beat
candymeatKRAUT! when it’s free!Great event, FKers! Best game I’ve been to all year (by far the best, and most, beer, but also the only W). Great to see you all out there; can’t wait for the next one.
Maybe we should go for two next year. I’ll be interested to see what excuses I can come up with to duck out on you FKers.
I like Batgirl’s Dog Days idea.
[sigh.]
