- This was exactly my reaction, too:
Khalil Greene? Did I miss something?

Indians announce they've designated Travis Buck for assignment to make room for Fukudome.

- Now people are going to say to you, Colorado Rockies, NL West, they’re looking for B prospects. You tell them: BULLSHIT! We do NOT look for B prospects here at Colorado. Let’s put a stop to that rumor RIGHT now!
- Smells like: CLOWNS
- Victims? Don’t be melodramatic. Look down there. Tell me. Would you really feel any pity if one of those dots stopped moving forever? If I offered you twenty thousand pounds for every dot that stopped, would you really, old man, tell me to keep my money, or would you calculate how many dots you could afford to spare?

4: I really thought he was going to be somebody.
We’ll be hearing from that crazy outfielder. And I don’t mean a postcard. Fade out. The end.
There’s still time! Cubs just traded Fukodome, so maybe Buck gets a reprieve.
Me, too. I’m really sorry about the implications that our likemindedness might have on your baseball cred.
7. This one is especially warm fuzzy special though, because they were hacking the phone Rebekah Brooks gave her!
Sadly it turns out they gave her the phone before Season 3 of The Wire – it would have been a nice twist for NoW/NI to have been inspired by Lester’s pre-tapped phone sting.
I wish I lived in a world where people were smart enough to do this.
As god is my witness, I swear I thought welds could hold gas.
Time to debate college athlete pay again.
My view continues to be that all big-sport college athletes should consider themselves adequately compensated by a 4-year guaranteed full ride, so long as the years they spend actually playing do not count against that time.
In other words, while you’re playing for the football team, you need to stay academically eligible, but (let’s be honest) you aren’t learning anything. If you go pro, you’re rich and get on with your life. If not, you can actually be a college student for four years.
I would add to that:
– the student-athlete is allowed to accept gifts from boosters, participate in promotional activities with sponsors, sign endorsement deals, etc.
– the student-athlete is required to meet academic eligibility criteria for admission, but is allowed to take a reduced course load while playing
OR
– is allowed to major in “football studies,” with practices and games counting toward credits (not so different than, say, a music major no?)
I will also predict that the vast majority of big-sport athletes that do not go pro and attempt to continue on as a college student for four years will not make it past the third year. What interest would they have in school if it is divorced from sports?
I’m fine with those changes.
As to your prediction, that’s up to them. If they’ve learned they won’t make a living at their sport, I would think getting a free college degree would sound pretty appealing. If it isn’t, at least they got the chance.
This new team we’ve got is delightful, just delightful.
Who the hell are these guys?! 5 runs in the 1st? Single, double, triple, homerun…
Holy crap. This is the team that had a squinter’s chance of 90 wins.
And they’re hitting really good pitchers too.
Suddenly that kid we’re trying out at second is the Weeksest link.
Is there a unicorn in the house?
Other than the catcher.

Ok. I’m warming to Grantland.
Liberal Baiting.
Rand Paul is doing it right.
Uh …
Hideki Irabu found dead in LA, apparent suicide.
sad.
Very.
1. Man, those player dads sure can be harsh.
Hi all–AN lurker (and occasional poster) since 2004 here. I stopped visiting during the ’08 offseason (being on the east coast and in college for the first time has its preoccupations), and returned in March to the unpleasant discovery that all the good posters had vanished. Been dropping in here for sharp insight on the team since around then; lord knows they’re few and far between in Kos’ domain.
Y’all mind if I start posting? I’m bringing Archer quotes to the table. And terrible puns. And the DFH perspective on domestic policy issues that I know is in woefully short supply around here.
Linkage: the kick-start our housing market has been waiting on.
Welcome.
I’ve approved these comments, and you’ll be able to post without moderation going forward.
Also, the about page has some useful info on keyboard shortcuts and so forth.
Welcome aboard! When I lived in LA I always thought Venice had the awesomest neighborhoods anywhere in LA.
I note that the realtor is named Winston Cenac and is African-American. Gotta be related to the Daily Show’s Wyatt Cenac, I’d think.
Howdy!
I’ve seen the whole movie now that I’ve read the comments on that article…
All new posters must build their usernames f_______k
hi.
MB: script submissions open now.
My script would start with Obama ordering the entire House GOP being arrested for treason.
KTOTD
Bingo. Absolutely right in my view. Now I need my own new topic for next week’s blog.
Wtf? Is this a thing?
It is now. Such is the magic of twitter.
If Ben Grieve were still around, when intro’d his fans could emulate him by planking.
Awesome.

Great stuff — The guys who made that used more than caffeine.
That helped my coffee go down smoothly.
That was FKing fantastic!
Stolen. Awesome, EC!
Thanks for the props
Wow. They’ve been monitoring me with a webcam.
So cool!
I’m disappointed that we aren’t doing this. Especially since none of it needs Congress.
If QE is going to come back around, I’d like to see the money sunk into a revived WPA program, rather than just have money given away as stimulus.
That was supposed to be part of the point. Then the GOP demanded tax cuts for a large portion of it.
They should hire Jim Bunning to lead it!
Poop
Those of us of a silver and black disposition are relieved that at least we won’t have the salt-in-the-wounds effect of seeing Nnamdi in 49er colors.
Whoever lands him will not only be getting one of the league’s premier corners, but also one of the league’s best overall human beings. Awesomemugha.
I’m not sure if I were you I’d find seeing him in Jets Green or Cowboys silver all that preferable. The Texans would have been a nice fit. They’re pretty harmless, allegiance-wise.
Agreed. Would have been ok with moo-cows. The logical part of me says the Cowboys for NFC vs AFC implications. But god-the COWBOYS?!?
Yea, cause the Raiders have never gone after marquee ex 49ers
Thanks, and go As.
At least it’s not Lothar Matthäus
This is great news.
You think he’ll do well?
It’s a good job that I isn’t an A.
What I know about soccer coaching could fit on a small post-it note. But Klinsmann is a seasoned coach with success on a World Cup level, he knows US Soccer well, and as an outsider may be able to see avenues to success that someone up from within the US Soccer family might miss. I was disappointed he wasn’t named to the job right after South Africa.
That perfectly sums up how I see it as well. I’m excited to see how it plays out.
