Sac fly, whoo hoo! Kurt’s on the comeback trail!
Now this here group is highly knowledgeable about baseball, but I’m guessing I’m not the only one who had no idea about Jose Lopez being a Marlin now.
Correct.
The nucleus had been … Peeled away?
Sometimes I FKn hate work
Sometimes?
Rarely, actually
:( Want that.
Hee hee!
Luv.
Sure, but with a massive rain delay it’s more plausible than normal.
Gio dealing.
Hold ’em, stud, draw? What???!!!
Meth
That makes sense. They’re no longer able to use it so they have to get rid of their stash and recoup the costs somehow.
Four hits, total, through six innings. One hit for every 600 fans.
Okay, they really fucking need to change that rule. The home plate ump should NEVER be allowed to make that call himself. Yes, it helps the A’s and all, but it really is fucking ridiculous. The home plate ump needs to be watching the ball and only the ball (or replaced by an awesome machine and then he can just focus on looking pretty).
But the home plate umpire calls dozens of swinging strikes every game; obviously you wouldn’t have 1B/3B call every swinging strike. So there’s nothing I can imagine you’d change by rule. My sense is that in practice most plate umps don’t call the swing if it’s close anyway, precisely for the reasons we just saw…you look stupid.
That was a horrible call, no way that was a swing by Sanchez.
If I’m recalling correctly, I believe college Baseball already has a rule in place for this. To me it seems simple, if the bat is “swung” and goes behind the hitter’s back, the home plate ump can make the call, otherwise appeal. Unfortunately umps really don’t have a problem with looking stupid. Alternatively, you can allow the hitter the chance to appeal to the base 1B/3B ump on a check swing if the home plate ump calls it, though this has it’s own can of worms too.
Yeah, no way they overrule the HP ump.
Hence the need for that kind of check swing call to be completely removed from the HPU’s authority. Base umps get it wrong too, but at least they have an actual view of the play.
Agreed. I’m just saying batter appeals don’t work.
I’m bookmarking this for when you get nominated to the ninth circuit.
If FUUUUUUU comes into this game, I swear I’ll snap.
Bailey should be available with yesterday’s off day. I give it a 0% chance FU gets into the game unless Bailey FUs.
Badenhop? Where are Moose and Skverril?
This Bailey character is pretty good.
Awesome!
Bailey is freaking awesome.
Didn’t watch the game, but according to the box score, the pitching was phenomenal tonight.
The box score provides an accurate picture.
What happened to all of Gio’s walks?
Ok, looking at bbref, I see that his walk rate is still pretty high.
