Never encountered Sean Penn. I did see Chris Penn in a liquor store in LA, though.
I was waiting for my daughter to arrive at OAK back in the days when you could wait at the gate, and he was waiting for someone (Robin?) as well. He ended up playing cards with a random person also waiting who went up to talk to him. That’s it.

Have I ever told my Jacques story?
His youngest child (fathered with the woman he was later arrested for pushing down the stairs of Jerry’s Jack London warehouse) was born on the exact same day as my son. In fact, while in the maternity ward the next day I bumped into Jerry visiting the then-happy Barzaghi family, and Jerry sort of blinked at me in a “I recognize you and don’t remember your name why is this happening to me in a maternity ward” kind of way. But that’s not my Jacques story.
As it turned out, Ms. Jacques selected the same pediatrician as us, and one day a few months later the Upgrade family was in for a regular well-baby exam, and who should be there in the waiting room but Jacques and son! We sort of nodded to each other, and then Jacques asked “Wheen was your son born?” March 15, I replied. “What time?” 4:30 in the afternoon, I answered. At which point his face took on an extra level of smug (no small accomplishment), and he proclaimed with great satisfaction “Hah! My son ees older than yours!”
