Listen You Mother FKers 58

Your all-politics Friday Grill …

  1. Just FKing disgusting. I can understand (yet loathe) the political reality of Obama’s “not looking backward” approach to the political and military figures, but those MDs need to lose their medical licenses.
  2. ML/v0 makes some well-considered observations about the Diridon plan, especially w/r/t parking and economic anchors. However … if the same exact points were made about VC, he’d be shouting about how it destroys the credibility of the plan, wouldn’t he?
  3. He forgot to add the Saucer People and the Reverse Vampires to the graph.
  4. Last week, I was tots buying the Trump-as-a-stalking-horse-for-Romney theory (siphoning off the support of the Twenty-Seven-Percenters from Huckabee, Palin, and Bachmann; going so OTT and unfocused/off-message with race-baiting and teatardism that he actually discredited it), but the whole full-throated Idiot Economic “Populism” thing … well, that’s the sort of thing, especially in this environment, that (a) actually wins votes, and (b) no other GOP’er is actually going to espouse. I guess the 12-dimensional-chess angle could be that Trump is a stalking horse to discredit economic populism as well, but … anyway, I still think there’s hardly any chance he wins the nom — too undisciplined/unprofessional, not actually willing to spend his own money (why does everyone always say he will? he’s always, his entire life, gambled with other people’s money instead of his own), but he’ll certainly help the GOP continue to destroy itself. (Ah, I see that one of the tolerable Balloon Juicers is with me on this.)

Continuing to pimp Lily’s school’s auction:

2 Giants Tickets vs. A’s – Sunday May 22 at 1:05 p.m. Lower box seats, row 28, seats 3 and 4. These are excellent seats — field level, behind home plate.

I’ll be on my way to Fairbanks that day, but if anyone is interested let me know and I’ll bid for you.

And for the Giant-friendly among you:

    Field of Dreams
A summer Sunday afternoon. The world champion San Francisco Giants. The world’s most picturesque stadium. And you! Don’t miss out on a dazzling package to see the Giants play the Cleveland Indians on Sunday, June 26th. Your treasure chest will include four field-level tickets (right behind the home bullpen), four field passes–on the field, people!– to watch batting practice, and a pre-game insider tour with EBI parent Yeshayah Goldfarb, the Giants’ Director of Minor Leagues and Quantitative Analysis. Yeshayah will give your group a behind-the-scenes look at the Giants’ front office and answer any questions you have about the reigning champs. Donated by the San Francisco Giants, this is a magical memory in the making for any baseball fan.

If this is His will, He's a son of a bitch.

those are way better than the stinky seats offered in my kids raffle.

I did send a letter to the A’s for a donation, but I don’t know what happened.

      I have $5. No I don\'t.

4: I don’t see him running either (and hey, looks like I was right about Palin). I would be shocked if it wasn’t the every-bit-as-crazy-as-Bachmann-but-treated-by-media-as-sensible Daniels/Pawlenty/etc generic candidate who ends up winning. That said, there’s a real chance someone like Huckabee comes out of this one.

I don’t think Romney can do it because he actually did good for the people of Mass. with his healthcare (and because he’s Mormon, which pisses off a fair bit of the base).

And yes, B-J is getting dangerously diluted with useless/stupid voices. Cole is one of the best on the internet at identifying when things are worth complaining about (and not), but god does he pick some shitty people. Of the crop identified on the main page, only DougJ and Mistermix are strong.

If you’re talking actual-domestic-policy-with-a-realistic-chance-of-being-enacted, then, yes, Bachmann might not be any crazier than T-Paw or Daniels. But that’s delimited almost entirely by the makeup of Congress after Jan 2013, isn’t it? (And if the Dems squeak back into control of the House and hang on to the Senate, I think Daniels, were he to beat Obama, could probably look like the GOP version of Obama, domestic-legislation-wise.)

But where the POTUS actually exercises power — makin’ war w/o Congressional interference — MY GOD BUT BACHMANN WOULD BE BALLS-OUT NUTS. She’s also personally far more balls-out nuts than Pawlenty (who’s really just Romney-lite, with less money and even more awkward but more earnest pandering skilz) or Daniels.

Agree entirely on Romney (I just don’t see how he realistically survives the primaries. Of course, money — both his own and from his institutional support — solves a lot of problems) and B-J.

I don’t think President Bachmann would start any wars that President Daniels would not. I do think if President Daniels did it the press would say they were “regrettably necessary” or something, so in that sense he’d be a lot worse.

You think Daniels would preemptively bomb Iran? I’m pretty sure Bachmann would. (I’m not sure Obama won’t.)

2: Just give ML credit for leveling some fair criticism on the Diridon retail plan. Whether or not he has a preference for one site or the other doesn’t really matter in the end. What matters is what MLB decides to do and when they decide to do it.

4: I don’t think there’s anything more to Trump’s “bid” than the same kind of self promotion that he constantly involves himself in- Comedy Central roasts, reality TV show, constant news bites… It’s just another way to build the “Trump Brand” for free by filling the vacuum left by a lack of a serious Rep. contender in an environment where there’s heavy anti-establishment sentiment.

This is kind of funny, and the last bit is a good zinger.

It’s the computer software of a monkey’s dreams:

Their automated system, known as Double Entendre via Noun Transfer or DEviaNT, rates sentences for their TWSS potential by looking for particular elements such as nouns that can be interpreted in multiple ways. The researchers trained DEviaNT by gathering jokes from twssstories.com and non-TWSS text from sites such as wikiquote.org.

      Famous last words:

“I don’t wear a cup,” Crawford said. “Never wore a cup. I do too many moves to wear a cup. … I’m still not going to wear a cup.”

Asked if he would rethink wearing a cup, Crawford dismissed the idea, saying the chances of taking another similar shot were remote.

Busy with ** tailgate and victory tonight…just got this.

Nabokov, that Nabokov–the one with the butterfly net prancing around Ithica/Cornell–appears loosely in THE RINGS OF SATURN, written by WG Sebald, who wrote the apple of my affection (at least in thesis theory), THE EMIGRANTS.

I am moving a bit north for a while, FKers, to Santa Rosa. Though I would still very much like to have a book club with you FKers. Is there any interest at all? I have received some interest in having a go through ULYSSES from some folks on **. A cooperative crossover, perhaps?
