The ol’ 5-6-3 is Cust’s 6th GIDP of the season. That moves him into a tie for 8th place on the team with Coco Crisp and Jake Fox.
I can’t believe Fake Jox GIDPd 6 times in his short stay…I can’t believe he even got that many PAs with men on given our pathetic offense.
I had to double-check to see that 6 GIDPs wasn’t his total for OAK + BAL combined. Nope, 106 PA for the A’s and 6 GIDP (17.67 PA/GIDP). That’s much better than Ben Grieve’s fabulous 2000 season: 675 PA/32 GIDP = 21.09 PA/GIDP.
Wait a minute…so while I was looking up Grieve, Hermida GIDP’d? That’s #5 in 52 PA for the A’s. You think Ellis is making a September salary drive, look at that one.
By the way, Suzuki is clinging to a 21-20 lead over Kouzmanoff in GIDP, so that’s one of those little dramas of the final weekend.
Add baserunning to the list of things at which Carter is not any good.
EDIT: Actually, that one might be Gallego’s fault.
Gio certainly tried his damndest in the bottom of the 4th, but that Mariners offense just features too much suck for him to overcome.
That Fister balk kinda tells the story of the M’s season, doesn’t it?
Wow, they even fucked up that pickoff.
This whole inning is hilarious.
The inning demonstrated why everybody on the Mariners, front office included, except Felix Hernandez so richly deserves to have a 100-loss season hung around their neck, and that’s why I’m rooting fairly passionately for at least 3 A’s wins in this series.
The Mariner’s defense is wilting in the face of the excruciating pressure applied by the A’s small ball attack.
/distasteful joke about a Fister and 13 singles
My kind of Mormon.
Ken and Vince were waxing about Rajai’s fine season (+0.5 WAR according to B-R, +0.8 on Fangraphs).
But he’s SCRAPPY, which is particularly impressive when you don’t look like Eckstein
Not too many African American players are described as scrappy.
My point exactly.
I get it.
Stupid things like stupidly putting in Gross as a defensive replacement for Carter with a 8 run lead just reinforces how stupid Bob Geren is.
The 17th shutout was just missed when Ellis slipped trying to turn the DP in the 8th inning…but THE .500 DREAM LIVES ON!!!
That was a fun HR by Carter
Someone on Mercer Island is going to get a ball through their window.
… euphemism watch?
Wrote a little thing about the Coors Field humidor controversy for our show this week, and put it in our rundown (which is strictly internal) as “Juiced Balls.” Guy who builds the over-the-shoulder graphics asked me what I wanted to see with that story, I said “Eh, nothing special, maybe just MLB logo.”
This is what I got.
I’d like a screen grab of you with that graphic over you shoulder please.
Oh no, no, no… I was the producer. I do not, will not, anchor. Ever. Ever ever ever. Period.
I hated to tell him to change it, because we were all having so much fun with that slug this week, but… alas…
It didn’t get changed by much.
Would you anchor on a train? Would you anchor in the rain?
Would you anchor in a box? Could you, would you, for network FOX?
Would you anchor with big hair? Could you stand in for Colbert?
Would you anchor mindless blather? Would you anchor like Dan Rather?
(also: I now know that Dr. Seuss wrote GEAH to win a bet with his publisher that he could write a book using only 50 different words.)
It always frustrates me that a cool site like snopes does something as stupid as trying to prevent copy/paste.
I’m not sure what you’re saying here; snopes says it’s true.
I’m saying you can’t highlight text in snopes.
Purely an excessive javascript complaint.
It’s like they’re trying to make Jon Carroll’s job difficult or something.
