But yeah, if signing [insert acronym I can never remember here] means we can’t keep Ellis, that makes signing him a worse proposition than it did when Ellis looked little different than Rosales.
"There's never enough time to do all the nothing you want"
Right, the option is something like 5 MM, right? I’d say there’s a decent chance he puts up 2 WAR next year, which is great value. I know that we’re not after bang for the buck, but rather plain old bang, but if that helps us spend elsewhere…
I’d say mostly short-term feel-good story, but the fact that he’s the type of pitcher who throws strikes and relies on his defense makes him especially well-suited for the A’s. He’s basically a lesser version of Dallas Braden.
Speaking of Geren’s love interests, he seems to feel that Boof is the only available reliever he trusts to pitch to both lefties and righties. I suppose all the Boof use could be justified from a “he’s useless to us after October 3, let him pitch every day.” Yet I fear it’s because Bob’s got himself a Boofixation which could extend into 2011.
"Kraut will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no kraut."
Saying Boof can pitch to lefties as well as righties is the equivalent of our reason for buying Buckhorn beer when in HS, which was that it was no worse when warm than when cold.
Given the composition and current health of the pen, who would you rather have face lefties? I agree that Boof sucks, but there’s no one else. At least Kebob seems to be starting to realize that Ziggy should Never. Face. Lefties.
you better hope to God you don't show up in this little community, because you'll wish you had never come
Only took him two and a half season of PAINFULLY OBVIOUS PROOF. Maybe he isn’t a complete moron.
Imagine if someone were in front of you, slapping you with a big fish for two and a half years. Then one day, you get the brilliant idea to move two steps to the right.
I don’t mind him in the mix for a job next year if it means the A’s traded one of their other pitchers for a bat. I think he can be servicable at the back end of the rotation.
13 teams have already won their 82nd game. Toronto has 81 wins and Detroit has 80, each with 5 games to go counting tonight’s. The A’s max win total is now 81, very likely leaving them no better than 16th in the majors. So can we cheer unhesitatingly for wins now?
3 out of 4 in Seattle gives us the schadenfreude of seeing the Mariners and their fans mourn their 100th loss for the second time in three years, which would be fun, but I want to break the streak of losing seasons.
That assumes the ones you select in your newly modified approach would in turn be willing to select you in turn. As you are likely to set your sites above your means it’s probable that a new approach would lead to fewer times on first base.
Wow, Mark Ellis is up to 2.4 WAR, 100 OPS+. I imagine the A’s exercise his option for next year, no?
Depends upon other moves.

5.5 (6 but a .5 buyout)
independently, you def do that. If another deal stops you, the stopping is a drag on the deal.
Ah, good ol’ Scioscia and his run-minimising tactical decisions.
Ah, good ol’ Geren and his run-minimising tactical decisions.
Thoughts on Bobby Cramer? Short-term feel-good story or late bloomer with some long-term potential?
The former. He’s more Erik Hiljus than Cory Lidle.
(c) The A’s could coax a 4.00 ERA out of anyone and SSS.
Ditto with a 0.400 OPS.
Shhh! Kenny Williams might be convinced he’s a (b)!
Not Boof.

Knots Landing Cramer?
Also, the fact that Bob seems to have fallen in love with him also makes it likely the A’s tender him an offer this offseason (damnit).
Who, Boof? I was talking about Cramer. Boof just sucks.

Yes, this is what I meant.
Meh.

I’m willing to bet that even Gabe Gross is surprised he’s still on a major league roster at the end of September.
If the A’s are, in fact, NOT tanking this game, they’re sure making it look good.
This is a gripping ball game.

Time to Rock the Cassevah (stolen from andeux some months ago).
See Howie Kendrick
… or I could wait to use that until he muffs a ground ball: See Howie Err
Whew! Thankfully, we didn’t just See Howie RBI
We’re breaking WPA, one at bat at a time.
Feh.
Could be worse
I can’t just Feh-off getting swept by the Angels.
Now, I’m not saying MEH.
I’m in more of a give-me-something-to-break mood.

I’m on board.
I don’t care about +1 positions nearly as much as being protected.

The batting average on those is about the same as that of the A’s, but at least the slugging percentage is a lot higher.
Are you saying that if I was more selective, I’d get to first base more often?
That assumes the ones you select in your newly modified approach would in turn be willing to select you in turn. As you are likely to set your sites above your means it’s probable that a new approach would lead to fewer times on first base.
I was referring to the collective team average, not singling you out.
As to being more selective, you can’t get off the FKing island by walking.
Less quipping, more email responding!
Done.
