Joe Frasier could probably kill me with both hands and one leg tied behind his back, but I think I could beat him in a swimming race.

I believe I was critical of the Giambi part when it was just an ** wet dream. Expecting Nomar and Chavez to give a total of 162 games was equally silly.

Why we didn’t just sign Branyan I’ll never know.

    The latest on Lenny Dykstra.

Asked if the ambitious design to provide a handful of specialty services for pro athletes is in place, Dykstra says confidently, “Have I got a 12-inch c—, or what? Of course, it is all in place. It might not look like it, but everything I do is part of a plan.”

I give him six months until bankruptcy.

Agreed Giambi is a lesser problem (although he causes the 1b issues). Chavez’s problem is that he hasn’t played since 2006. Nomar’s problem is that he is even less healthy than Chavez.

They, uh, they looked very sharp versus Rays tonight.

    Forbes’ MLB team valuations out.

The A’s, with shitty attendance, a shitty stadium, shitty tv/radio/cable coverage, shitty sponsorships/partnerships (and a median-level debt load), were … the seventh most profitable team in the majors.

The A’s lead the AL in being caught stealing (6/11).

Gallagher to AAA; no one up yet.
    Possibilities:
    a. a starter to replace Outman, who should be good in the pen; would be mazzaro or gio, I’d take mazzaro.
    b. a reliever; could be gio to relieve, or possibly gray or blevins which seems unlikely.
    c. a 3B (hannahan); not that likely, they could put nomar on dl without too much trouble since he could quickly return.
    d. denorfia (would be odd to call him up at the end of the 17 straight LHPs.
    e. barton/doolittle, to avoid Powell at 1B.

Any of these offensive moves would be temporary as I would assume they’ll keep carrying 12 pitchers.

AP story posted 20 minutes ago:
Dustin Pedroia’s brother pleads guilty in sex case

WOODLAND, Calif.—The older brother of 2008 American League MVP Dustin Pedroia has pleaded guilty to engaging in sex acts with a minor.

Brett Pedroia, 30, admitted Thursday that he engaged in oral copulation four years ago with a boy between the ages of 10 and 14, the Yolo County court clerk’s office said. Another charge of oral copulation and two counts of lewd acts were dropped.

Sentencing was scheduled for June 30.

    Uh-huh:

“Gallagher will start Saturday in Sacramento,” A’s manager Bob Geren told MLB.com via text message Thursday afternoon.

    1. At least Geren didn’t use Twitter
    2. Obvious clean-up job on the quote by Urban: no one texts in PR-speak with no typos
    3. Gawd, Urban’s blog is 12 different kinds of unreadable

So I’m worried about the Mariners. Good news is they miss Felix and Bedard next weekend.

    The Midland position prospects
    Carter: .315/.385/.500, 17K:7BB
    Cardenas: .364/.417/.600, 10:5
    Brown: .345/.457/.448, 9:5
    Donaldson: .167/.352/.238, 10:12

Carter and Brown are still striking out way too much. Gotta love the .236 ISO from Cardenas after the .047 he had in Midland last year. Donaldson has a shitty BABIP and isn’t hitting for power–but, um, he’s walking a lot.
